Hi,
I'm having this problem for a while and don't remember exactly how it occurred, if I remember well, it started happening after flashing a non-stock ROM with CWM, but can't really reproduce it.
Current CWM is Cyanogen CWM-based recovery v5.0.3.2. The problem persisted even when upgrading the ROM to 4.2 (PacRom).
Anyway, as for the problem itself, when I plug-in the device to charger while its off, I see a legacy loading star similar to this one for like 5 secs, then comes up the battery icon for a couple of seconds, and device is turned off again for another 3 seconds. The whole routine repeats over and over infinitely.
Note, that the device warms up during the charging process while it's turned off.
How to solve this?

Afaik, this behavior is normal. When the device is off and you plug it in via a wall charger, it's fine; it boot's up and shows the battery charging icon. However, if you plug it in via a USB port on a computer, you enter an endless boot loop.
Afaik, the only solution is to charge the device via a wall charger, or turn the device on normally and charge via any source you want.
Note: I have flashed back to stock just to test this and it behaved the same.
Note: Jelly bean roms seem to have an additional issue where, when you reboot the device while it's plugged in (any source), the device goes into the "charging only" mode. If you are plugged into a USB port then you end up in the above mentioned boot loop. The solution to that is to simply unplug the device before rebooting...

Everytime I plug in Nook Charging cable it keeps booting over and over. If I plug in my samsung galaxy cable it charges but the moment I plug in it just turns off completely and wont turn on until I unplug. I originally had a dual boot system running for 1.4.0 which is my nook version and tried to do a recovery which said successful from the file I created but when I rebooted the whole system didnt know what to use for what and kept asking then crashing. I factory wipe/reset after the problem started and upgraded to CM10 cynogen mod with the new JellyBean no duel boot. RUNS AMAZING. But the charging problems still remains, even when I booted stock after factory reset it was still doing this. I have CWM installed internally. Please help me I have looked over many threads one said it was an update problem created with AdobeFlash updates and I tryed to flash the fix listed but it just says error during install and aborts. Also it will stay on during the cynogen mod boot screen even if i plug in either charger but at the top it just says "Charging Disabled" says the precent. I left it plugged in at this screen and it didnt charge one percent after 30 minutes.
I just want to charge it and have it on at the same time. Please any help, any ideas and comments is appreciated. Thank You
i have this problem too. I'm using CM10. My battery died and wouldn't charge no matter how long I had it plugged in for.
Then recently it turned on, but when it is plugged into the wall, it just constantly reboots.
Any help?
Device: Galaxy Player 5.0 INTL (YP-G70)
ROM: Cyanogenmod 10.1 (7/23/2013)
Kernel: Sultan r5 INTL
Problem: The battery appears to be malfunctioning somehow. After using "Pimp My Rom" and enabling some tweaks, the device began to randomly turn off and loop on and off with a white battery outline onscreen. Now, the battery has sufficient charge. When it finally turns on, it's always over seventy percent. When it does turn on, if it is plugged in on the wall charger, it immediately turns off upon disconnecting this wall charger. Also, it displays "Android is upgrading, starting apps" at every boot. Managing to turn on the device after doing a reboot with the power button many times takes up to 15 minutes. It sucks. ):
Steps attempted:
Reflashing ROM and kernel using exact steps (wiping all data, /system, cache, etc.).
Flashing Cyanogenmod 10.2 (8/05/2013) with Sultan r6.
Deleting battery stats.
Cleaning charger and microUSB port.
Rechanging tweaks to the values I remember in Pimp My Rom. (IDK about all of them, if someone could post the defaults that would be great).
Draining battery (I did to 1%) and then recharging. Should I drain until it turns off?
[EDIT]: Tried flashing to Chip v1.5 with r14 kernel. No luck; it is just a different battery icon.
[EDIT]: Tried flashing to stock with Odin.
Are there any steps that I could possibly take to fix this? Perhaps flash to stock and see if the problem persists?
[WORKAROUND!] I've found a workaround, however annoying it may be. Plug in the YP-G70 and it should bootloop with the battery icon. However, as the icon disappears and the screen is black for about a second, just before it is about to reboot with the icon, pull the charger from the device. This has guaranteed my device to start every time; I can't ensure that it will work for you, but it is worth a try.
Please help!
You need to either do a factory reset from within the settings or wiping factory reset from within CWM. If that doesn't work you may need to flash back to stock.

I have done many factory resets from CWM. Would flashing back to stock do anything that flashing another rom wouldn't?
Also, after scouring xda for answers, I saw iurnait recommended draining the battery until the device turns off. I'm going to try that I suppose.
I'd flash back to stock if that doesn't work

Unfortunately, flashing to stock using Odin didn't remove the problem.
I used a guide from androidromupdate
To be honest, I've given up. I'll update the original post with what I've tried and the workaround that I've found for this dreadful issue. If anyone else has this issue, best of luck!
I've got the same "boot loop with battery logo" problem, but without the random shutdowns are "android is upgrading" message on boot.
Some additional details:
I can boot into download mode without any trouble.
It will occasionally complete a boot, but gets stuck in the loop as soon as something causes it to reboot or shutdown.
I can sometimes boot into recovery mode. It will successfully go into recovery mode about 2-3 times before it will go into a normal boot.
Flashing alternate kernels (even going all the way back to stock) just changes the battery logo, but does not stop the bootlooping problem
The stock kernel was far more reliable than the others, often booting all the way after only 3 or 4 tries.
Throughout the boot loop, the battery logo (except in the stock kernel) will show as empty, even after being charged overnight
Upon a successful boot (all the way to android home screen), the battery is shown as fully charged (if it's been charging) or a level that seems probable (e.g. it'll show as 70-80% if it's been in download mode (which keeps screen on at full brightness) for a while or left to bootloop for close to an hour.
If it's not plugged into a charger, it only loops once each time you turn it on (i.e. battery logo shows for a few seconds then the device shuts itself off).
An update to Joseph's posted workaround:
I've found the button lights a perfect indicator for the timing. Wait for them to go black and then come back on very dimly then unplug the cable before the screen shows anything or the key lights go full brightness (like they are when device is fully booted and awake).
I'm using the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Tab (Verizon) SCH-i905
From what I have read, the reboot loop is when the user sees the boot screen, but the tablet keeps on rebooting. My problem is severely worse.
My tablet keeps on reboots, but it doesn't show the boot screen. Instead, it just shows a blank lit up screen.
Not only that, but I cannot always turn on my tablet. I keep trying, but it typically turns on after I keep plugging and unplugging the USB from my outlet to computer, and so forth (for about 10 minutes). When it finally boots, I can go into Odin mode. I flash some sort of firmware to it, and then my device turns off. And I need to keep attempting to turn it on again for 10 minutes before it actually turns on.
Nevertheless, my device still does not work properly. I know this is infact a software problem because my device was working fine yesterday, until I decided to unmount and mount certain things in Recovery mode.
So far, I have flashed recovery.tar.md5 , PDA_SIGNED_P7105.tar, and 75XX_CWM_Recovery_v5.1.2.6.tar. None of these have fixed the problem. How can I return to factory settings?
I just saw the previous thread about this device and am currently installing PDA_HC31_EG0 ... If everything goes right, then there should be no problem. But I highly suspect that the firmware will flash successfully, and then my device will proceed to power off for another 10-15 minutes before turning on again.
If I leave my device plugged into the power source, it will start turning on and off (the blank lit screen) periodically. For example, turns on for 5 seconds, then turns off for 5 seconds (and repeat).
While this is a software problem, it seems to be on the OS level. Are there any other ROM Links besides the ROM in showthread.php?t=1342995 that I should try? Also, is there any other possible alternative?
I'm havin problems with offline charging after i installed cm11. I've tried change kernel and change rom (i'm using PA rom now) and i'm still with the same problem.
When i plug the charger on my phone while turned off, it shows a battery icon with a question mark on it and i think it's not charging. Is this a general problem or did i make something wrong?
Try keeping it plugged in. See if it charges or not.
Also,did you change your bootlogo?
I didn't change my bootlogo. it boots motorola bootloader and then shows the battery icon with the question mark. I left my phone charging this way for a couple of hours and tried to turn it on. my phone booted with 0% battery and then shutted down, so definitely it is not charging. other thing I notice is that when my phone enter this buggy offline charging mode, I have to press power button + volume down to reboot my phone, it kind of get stuck in this mode when my phone enter it
Try using a different charger.
It doesn't seem to be a common issue.
Can you power up the phone whilst charger connected.?
I've tried two different chargers, one of my Moto X and the original one. If I want to charge the phone I need to turn it on first and then plug the charger. I can't turn it on with the charger on cuz it is stuck on that screen with the battery icon
I'm starting to think I've done something wrong. I did the following to get where I am right now:
I was on stock firmware, so I rooted the phone and installed the newest version of SS. Then I downloaded cm11 and gapps and copied to the phone. I entered the SS and wiped everything. After that I installed cm11 and gapps.
When I discovered that issue I've tried install JBX kernel to fix it and nothing. then I wiped everything again and installed PA rom + gapps and still that issue. Did I do something wrong?
No, you didn't do anything wrong.
Since its persistent across both ROMS, its not a ROM issue either.
In my opinion, its most probably a problem with port or the board. The port doesn't deliver enough power.
You can try flashing the stock ROM back, it might repair in case something s/w related is corrupted. If it doesn't work after that, then its a h/w glitch for sure.
just in case, if I install stock rom and the problem goes away, what might be causing this problem?
I can't re-flash stock rom because I can't charge my phone and I can't boot into the rom or recovery. I don't think fastboot charges my phone. I just realized that bootloader is locked. Maybe this is the problem, isn't it?
it isn't a h/w glitch because before cm11 it was OK to charge offline
You'll need a factory cable to flash in case your phone has insufficient power.
Look for it, there's a guide about making one in the general section I suppose.
No need, I've managed to charge the phone through USB on my pc. When I plug the charger on my phone, that glitch happens, but when I plug the USB on my pc, the phone lights up a white led and apparently it charges the phone (slower, but charges). That's really weird. I really want to know what is happening to my phone
Hello,
I'm using GT-i8552 stock 4.1.2 (UNROOTED).
I did root my phone with 'Framaroot', the rooting was successful and SuperSU was installed properly. After this I didn't try installing any custom ROMs or any conflicting apps but still I started facing battery issues like,
1. After putting on charge, display shows that it is charging but no progress at all (it freezes at certain %)
2. When the phone is switched off and put on charge, the display just blinks up and goes off (lights on lights off) nothing else appears and no battery progress
3. Sometimes the phone charges properly to 100% but after disconnecting cable, battery status is 50-60%
The above problems occur not all the time.
The things that I tried,
1. Did unroot my phone and removed SuperSU
2. Did a factory reset from phone's settings option.
3. Got an original new battery from service center
4. Took the phone to Samsung customer care (they couldn't find any problem at all and advised that the problem must be in the charger) (I tried to charge with samsung charger, sony's charger & portable charger)
5. Changed USB cables for charging
6. Tried Battery Calibration apk by Nema
7. I think the charging port is little bit damaged but I can still get the phone to charge
Even after doing all the above things the problems still occur sometimes. Other than that the phone works fine, there is no BOOTLOOP.
When I try to boot it into recovery mode (volume up+home+switch on and release after SAMSUNG logo) but after releasing the buttons the SAMSUNG GT-i8552 logo appears and phone starts with no warning and all, it's not accessing the recovery mode or download mode too.
Is there any solution to the battery related issues or do I need to flash the stock firmware again?
I am not aware of the steps of flashing firmware, please do redirect.
Thank You!!
