HTc one lifespan - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Ok so I haven't upgrade yet, but I would like someone here to challenge my logic because I really like the aesthetics of the HTC one.
For a phone, I really like survivability. Especially a phone that can last for more than four years. One of the gripes I have with the HTC one was that it has a non-removable battery. At first, I didn't really mind since I can get portable chargers and what not. However, I then started to think about the long term quality of the battery. I would think that battery would start to degrade after two years.
With the S4, I can easily just slap a new battery when the old one starts to degrade.
I just want a phone that would last for four years and maybe potentially more.

You would possibly be the only person on earth that keeps a phone 2 or more years. The HTC one will definitely last as long as you need it too. Look at the iPhone, it has a non removable battery and it's very successful. I had my 4s almost two years and it needs a new battery; it says 100% but my battery stats app says it's really only charging to 70%. Im certain with only two years the battery has lost capacity. anyway, if you want a removable battery get the plastic s4, if you want a sturdy solid built phone that is probably one of the greatest android phones to date get the one. The battery life is really good, its been almost two days of moderate usage and I'm at 53%. It will be diff for every one.

I agree. If you feel the removable battery is better for YOU than get it. I don't worry about it since I don't keep using my device that long. And even if I do pass it on to family I will just send the device in to get the battery replaced IF anyone cares to use it still. After a few years I doubt it though since my family will be using a newer device.
Out of all my smartphones the HTC One is my favorite. Great device. Glad I got the 64GB model.

Honestly none of us knows the lifespan on the HTC One as it's only been out a few months. Only time will tell. If you plan on sticking with a phone for 4 years, I suggest you get the S4 since the battery can be easily changed. Just remember that Samsung are known for having weak radios. (My old Note radio was going bad after one year).

given today's technology, asking for, or expecting, a phone to last 4 years is really pushing it. at that point, i dont think your battery is the biggest concern you should have. that said, i'll try to draw on some physics to help persuade you...this phone is made from aluminum, which is going to dissipate heat pretty well. I've noticed times when my One feels a bit warm after playing games or extended periods of streaming video, but then i check the temps and see that it's not unusually hot at all. I personally feel that the aluminum body helps to dissipate heat well and, theoretically, could help with the phone's longevity. I've done no scientific studies on this, but it's just a logic i'm applying from other cases of technology and heat with regards to product life. Think of it as a sort of heat sync for the phone. I've had SGS4's in my hands for a couple of minutes before and have felt them get extremely hot while messing around with the phone, FWIW.

My Skyrocket's power button causes the phone to restart. Hardware issue. The screen has gotten worse. Battery has lost its capacity. Glad that it lasted good for you but for me it didn't. Even my iPhone 4 lasted me through more besides the home button going bad. My girl's Note 2 home button is starting to go bad as well. I'm not saying that I won't ever get a Samsung again...just saying that I haven't had much luck with its durability in the past. This is my first HTC and so far I have no complaints. But we'll see after an entire year (if I don't decide to get the HTC maxx or Note 3)

Yeah I remember you from the skyrocket forum. Lol. The skyrocket has shown issues for some people with the power button. Batteries are expected to deteriorate. Development in the skyrocket forum is still going strong. It was a great phone to have and I still enjoy it.

The phone will last as long as you take good care of it. If you wanna be clumsy/don't care then it won't last no where near 4 years.
Far as battery I think you get 500 recharge cycles before the health starts to drain

[Q] Would your buy thunderbolt again

Hi i was wonder what you guy think of your device. i am still using my eris but can upgrade anytime now. it is on its last leg, acting up a lot.
My question is if it were you would you jump now with thunderbolt or wait for some of the new devices on the horizon. Not sure how long i can limp my eris along. Was hoping to hold out for SGII.
With your eris, I would just keep crackflashing until something new comes out. I love my bolt and hate it at the same time. I work in a place with barely any cell phone reception which kills battery life. Come the end of october, there will be phones with 720p displays, dual core processors, and lte all in one. Wait for that to come out. I know everyone will say "There's always something better coming out" which is true, but this phone will be next to trash compared to those specs.
So, no, i wouldn't buy this phone again if i broke it today, and needed a replacement tomorrow. I would walk into the verizon store and buy a flip phone to hold me down until then
Ya i am trying to hold out i don't want to make the same two year mistake i made with my eris, jumped in to soon, it suck to be this close to a phone so much better then my eris and no official news from Verizon on upcoming devices.
I love my tbolt but if I were you I would wait. The tbolt is yesterday's news and there will be better phones in the fall. The HTC Vigor has me salivating as does the Samsung GSII.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
I would wait at least until the bionic comes out (or until its rooted) I think there's a good chance that the other phones may get pushed back (even though they have no official release date) I would look at the bionic or vigor, I'd stay away from Samsung and LG.
Considering there isn't any other new device out that supports LTE on verizon that isn't junk (Charge and Revolution), of course I would buy it again. That is, until my contract runs out and/or there's a better phone out as well (which with delays and such could be near the end of the year or early next year).
Would I want to wait for a better phone if my current phone is about dead (as was the case with my blackberry before)? No way. I waited 2 months for the thunderbolt to come out while hack charging my blackberry by applying the power/ground wires directly to the docking charge contacts on it. Screw doing that for any longer.
I have no doubt I'd buy this device again. I came from the dInc, and as deeply as the folks over there have their heads buried in the sand, the Tbolt is a significant upgrade in every measure. As far as I can tell, it's as good as it gets. Sure, you could say "There's the EVO 3D", to which I'd say "Yeah... it's about as practical as a 454 big block in a Chevette. LOTSA power with a seriously lacking network behind it." Nobody bought the Tbolt for it's impressive computational abilities. It's the LTE. It's truly the ONLY HTC with a network behind it that outstrips what the phone can do. I got REAL tired of the dInc's stock battery life of sub-3 hours at times, it's tiny screen, it's tendency to overheat, the beautiful yet power-thirsty and VERY dim screen. I've been trying to disabuse folks of delusions regarding this thing called Vigor, but nobody seems interested in acknowledging reality. But, I'll spit it out again...
The dual core chip Qualcomm is producing uses the same 45nm scorpion core the Tbolt uses, which is why Tbolts clock so well up and beyond 1.6GHz. Power requirements to produce stability is strictly a function of scaling process, all other factors being equal. Consequently, you're dual core device will be powering TWO cores identical to the Tbolt's, not at 1.1 volts but up around 1.4 volts or more, assuming a clock rate of 1.6GHz. Now I've looked at stock governors for HTC devices and they usually run 4 steps in clocking for their 1GHz devices; 245MHz, 512MHz, 768MHz, and 1.024GHz under the command of an ondemand governor with seemingly fairly low ramp-up thresholds. Assuming this will be true for future devices, you're looking at a chip that will ramp up quick under even modest loads and will eat power at more than twice the rate of a stock Tbolt. In all likelihood the display won't be anything radically different so power consumption there can be reasonably assumed to be in the same ball park. That leaves is with radios. I've yet to hear of an update to the MDM9600 radio chip that provides LTE connectivity so I'm skeptical radio efficiency will improve. The actual transmitter/receiver is very proven technology largely identical to a GSM transmitter/receiver.
So, for those salivating at the thought of dual core, 48 hour battery life, ultra-fast, ultra-high resolution devices, appreciate that the signs for those devices appearing soon don't actually exist yet.

I've never heard of battery problems with the Dinc (however I've never been to the Dinc forums) and everyone I know with one has good battery life and they rag on me for having my phone on the charger all day. If the Dinc's screen is dimmer than the t bolts then its almost unusable, this is the first phone I've had that I have a problem with the brightness, or lack of brightness. Some t bolts overclock well past 1.6 but most don't. I've had 4 and 1 was stable at about 1.4, 1 was stable at 1.28 and 2 weren't even stable at 1.2, my Droid X was clocked higher than any of my bolts

The stock battery that came with my dInc was practically worthless. I couldn't count on it to last long enough to go out to dinner. I bought the 3500mAh Innocell a week later which transformed it into a wonderfully long-lived device. The original Samsung AMOLED screens in those were VERY dim. Most reviews took issue with it's lack of brightness, off colors, and it's weird version of white. It was practically useless in direct sunlight. Other Samsung phones of the era also received similar reviews. The new SuperAMOLEDs such as the one in the Charge are a dramatic improvement, but the one in the GalaxyS is identical to the dInc unit and is suffers the same drawbacks.
My Tbolt reaches it's limit at about 1.6GHz and gets VERY weird about voltages much further than that. It's difficult to say why there's such dramatic differences between devices, but I'm tempted to point the finger at on-board caches. Those tend to be more sensitive to speed and voltage than transistors and CPUs in general must be rated based upon their researched weakest link. Normally, the cache is that weak link. In PC's devices with substandard caches simply have them deactivated and are sold as lesser models, such and Intel's Celeron line. Many of those have proven to be overclocking marvels because the weakest link has been cut out of the picture.
I'll tell you what. The weirdest thing happened that made my battery life almost double..... I tried CM7 on it. Got tired of trying to set it up and restored a backup of Gingeritis3D v1.0 Beta6 and ever since then it's been a 14 hour LTE battery. All I can think is there was garbage left on /system that isn't normally wiped and I'd never wiped it or used anything but sense ROMs on it before. Who knows if that even makes sense... Beyond that, I'm clueless, but I'm loving it all the same!
I love my TBolt. I am of the mindset that if you need a phone, get the best one that is available at the time. There will always be something better over the horizon. If you can wait, then do so, but in October, there will be a rumor of something else coming. In the mean while, you have missed out on using a very nice device while putting up with <insert device here> for the next few months. Not everyone can move to a new phone when ever they want too. I can't, so I just make the best decision at the time and stick with it. I needed a new phone two months ago, so I looked at the choices I had. I picked the TBolt, and I have not been disappointed. I was already playing the battery game with my Touch Pro 2, so I took this limitation in stride. I love the power I have gained with the TBolt and have never looked back. The Vigor looks great, and if I could have waited for it, I would have; however, I needed a phone, so I made the best choice at the time. I think I made a good one. No regrets.
If I could go back in time, I'd still get the Thunderbolt. I had some rebooting issues but after the last update it's been pretty solid, and battery life hasn't been as bad as most people like to say. I can routinely get a full day out of it. That said, if I was shopping now I might wait for at least the next batch coming out in the coming month or so. If you don't need a new phone right now, there's always a newer, better one coming out, but you could end up waiting for ever for the *next* new one. Probably the biggest thing I'm left wanting is a physical keyboard, but Verizon has really been slow to get an LTE slider to market -- I'm not aware of any in the immediate pipeline.
I have a Samsung Galaxy SII along with my thunderbolt. While the SGS2 screen is amazing, viewable in bright direct sunlight for me, I don't like the fact that it does not have a search hardware button on it. The weight of the SGS2 is nice too - half that of a TBolt.
However, I would defnitely buy another TBolt to replace my current one since I like the design of the HTC devices best. I bought the TBolt originally since I wanted a 4.3" version of the incredible and am satisfied.
I would buy it again at the same time. If it was now no. The TB will be EOL soon with the TB2 coming out and another one from HTC is coming out.

The Thunderbolt is a good phone. It does exactly what it is supposed to do. If you're on stock and get the extended battery, the phone is gold.
When you root and tweak it, the phone is platinum.
Short answer .. Yes.
I would buy the Thunderbolt again. I like mine, it suits my needs perfectly. If you can wait then do it .. there should be some pretty nice new models coming out later. There always is so get used to that. But that also means that phones like the Thunderbolt become more affordable to the masses, soon they will be on Verizons "free" upgrade list. I was in a place where I could not wait any longer and paid a lot more than they are selling for now.
If you are a power user then wait. If not then grab a Thunderbolt for cheap. The difference between these and what ever comes out soon is not going to be that great to the casual user.

Random Brainstorm on batteries for smartphones

So I fell alseep on the couch and woke up to a thunderstorm at 4am in the morning . Now that I am unable to sleep a idea slams into me like an 18 wheeler . Its a known fact one of the issues surrounding smartphones this day and age is battery life or lack there of . From the earlier beginings flip phones had a battery life of several days , bare in mind these phones just did basic text and calls . But none the less end users got used to long battery life of a phone . Now to the brain storm . What if the approach manufacturers are taking is incorrect ? Every smart phone I see on the market has a battery that is inserted into the phone and then a cover or back plate is then applied . With Motorola's Razr they have proved a thin phone is possible using a battery designed similar to the iphone . Question and proposed Idea , Why not use the tech used in the razor to create a super thin phone but , make the connector to the battery similar to say a plug in and receptical but in fixed locations . What Im driving at is make the battery cover "the battery" that litterally snaps onto the phone. Yes you will increase thickness of the phone slightly but the area a normal battery cover takes should more than increase the size of the battery past the 1750mah mark quite easily . The only downside to this brainstorm is either battery backs would become generic or price of phones would skyrocket due to the battery back being different for so many phone . Anyone elses thoughts or ideas on this ?
Interesting brainstorm... My old LG EnV2 was like that and it's battery lasted a couple of days lol
you know they keep making these phones thinner and I have been saying for a while that I wished they would use the smaller technology to make room for a bigger battery .
I don't need a 3mm thick phone but a smart phone that does not require daily charging would be great .
Love the idea and Motorola is heading in the right direction , but in talking with friends with iphones, they do the same as i do....charge the phone when they go to bed and take it off when they wake up....I think the best result would be for manufacturers to work on their kernels and how the processors work instead of worrying who can put the most RAM or the fastest processor or the most features into their phone.I can agree with what you say about the old phones ,my backup phone is a Samsung ultra touch and it lasts for 3 days without a charge

This. Plus the battery would block the antenna rf and reduce surface area for placing it elsewhere. A lot of the phones shove antennas in that cover. Oddly not the 3D which could be the reason our reception is generally bad.

From a design perspective I dont think this would be an issue . Iphones place the antenna on the outter edge of the phone itself. so making the back of the phone a battery itself shouldnt interfer with the antennas in this configuration

in a sence this is what the brainstorm is about . The phone itself would already be made ultra thin (example Moto Razr) the back being made of a battery would only increase the thickness of the phone by say the typical thickness of our current battery (example) . From a design and engineering standpoint I dont see why this route hasnt been taken as of yet .

I think it comes from my previous example of life with flip phones . I can relate personally when I had an EVO 4G with the 3500mah battery . To have a smartphone you never worry about plugging in is a freedom that is hard to explain . I feel the best way to put this is , remember when fuel was only 1.29 a gallon and then prices inched up alittle . People didnt like it raised hell about it but in the end people just accepted it .This cycle continued till we are at the current price of fuel 3.09-to whatever . The cycle is only reflected once again here in the smartphone world. We were used to phones that lasted days , then phones advanced , ok they last a day now we accepted that . Some cases phones dont last a day we accept that and move on . I guess what Im trying to say is we keep accepting it for what it is when there really should be no reason to accept that situation with phones .
Additional thought , Example Samsung Galaxy S 4G touch , The phone is ridiculously thin . What if the whole back of the phone was a battery(except the location of the camera etc etc) . The phone itself is a monster with its size . The surface area of the back of that phone with a battery back the thickness of say our current battery , you know it would easily be over a 2000mah battery . Phones are already progressing to being wider and bigger (to me almost on the verge or being micro tablets) they are already big in a sense . Adding two millimeters thickness to the back of it is not gonna make the phone that much thicker in relation to an already super thin phone (SGS2)

Its not the size of the battery, its the technology in the battery. I wish someone would engineer a compacitor to replace the whole setup. That way we could charge up almost instantly and use our phone for hours.

Ive been saying it for a while now....Nothing with batteries will change until the tech behind it does...I think weve milked lithium ion for all its worth , time for a change...
I'm surprised that no one posted this in this thread, but it looks like Lithium ion batteries might be around a bit longer:

Nowhere, I bought a solar charger/battery from One Sale A day for $5. LOL, works pretty well and the whole unit is only about 3/4 the size of the evo 3d battery.

Enough with the battery

I am tired of people hating on this phone for the battery size. Why can't we wait until the phone is actually out to judge the battery? The battery is barely smaller than the S3 and really how much more battery can the extra pixels use? Sure it will not hang with the Maxx but no one else is either. Also, people please quit comparing this to the Note 2. I don't think the Note and S3 are competitors because they are different products. This aligns with the S3 not the Note 2.Yes it has a bigger screen but the width and thickness are almost the same and the height is not much different.

I couldn't agree more. From what some others have posted that have actually used it, it seems like it does pretty good on battery life.
Not to mention its posted usage time (from VZW) is roughly double that of the Rezound, which I didn't think was horrible by any means.

that is sooo true could not of said it better
I made a full day on sunday with out a charge. Unplug the phone around 7:00 and plug it back in around 8:00 with about 25% of battery life.
I agree about the battery. I'd prefer form factor rather than a huge extended battery. Plus cheap plasticky removable back covers (shot at my gs3, lol) tend to creak and moan after time and I prefer rigidity in my device.
I may be alone here, but I had a Thunderbolt, and didn't even really mind the battery life on it ( really really really really ****ty, haha). I really don't care about battery life.
PS - and the few reviews I've watched so far all say that the brightness levels are quite a bit down on it at max brightness, probably how they manage to squeeze battery life out longer. That and coupled with an extremely efficient power management system andprocessor......engineering at its finest I actually recall people making the exact same battery life predictions when we actually jumped to qHD and even 720p screens, and they were hardly effected.
I agree its not the battery but the internal storage that is the fatal flaw here. New hd games are over 2 gigs each. and those arent even at 1080P. so you can only load 4 games on your device before its full, that is amazing that a company would be so blatantly stupid as to do this. they deserve the market share they have 1% and dropping.

You have now posted that on several different threads, nearly word-for-word. Chill out man! As much as I agree with you about the limited storage, you are just coming off as a two-year-old throwing a fit.

ya thanks I am hoping that HTC will be checking these forums and maybe get their head out of their a** and do the right thing for their company.
Using the business model that killed Nokia's business and ignoring the new sucsesfull model that apple and samsung are using is a very bad move. Maybe just maybe they can figure it out and become the success I know that they could be. or maybe thats just wishful thinking on my part, but thanks

Apple sells a poop ton of phones. They do not have storage expansion. Their best seller is their 16 gb model. HTC specs devices based on what Verizon wants. Google has also ditched expansion on the Nexus line.
There are reasons this is going on. Would I prefer 32 or 64, sure but it is not as easy as, oh let's put more storage in.

Vote with your wallet then. Multiple posts of almost exactly the same complaint word for word by a single user, before the device even comes out, when the device is already being on the manufacturing line, does not mean a thing to even a forum user working for HTC genuinely interested in feedback. It's just whining and tantrum throwing at that point.
Look, I load tons of music and podcasts onto my incredible 2, using a 64gb mini SD to compensate. I'm still going to get this phone, because I'm realizing that I regularly clean out my **** even when I don't need to or probably never need to. I'll complain about storage space and cloud storage when I get into that problem, but I have never had that issue and have never gone beyond a net 5-7gb on my phone. It doesn't take any effort to press the delete button to remove old podcasts I don't listen back to, or switch out music to the playlist I want, from either the cloud or by local transfer.
Your argument that a single, specific game being 2gb means that a phone with four games would be full, with no room for photos, videos, music, etc. Is facetious. I understand that concern, but if you word it in such a way that you are illustrating an unrealistic scenario it masks your actual, genuine concern and probably annoys readers more than it informs them. It's fear mongering.
Edit: regarding the battery: this is what happens when people half heartedly gain knowledge of something. It's like the megapixel race. They look at the number and claim that bigger is better without understanding how the technology as a whole works and interacts.

Having been running this phone for about 2 days now, I can tell you the battery is just fine and will last you well into the night.
I do not have specific numbers to post, as I am not a battery fiend, but I was at the press conference yesterday and looked at the phones being used to demo the screen. These phones had been on battery, showing HD video for 2-3 hours and were between 90 and 95% still.
That should tell you the batter is just fine.

Ok what I did was, I turn on keep on always first. I started with Pandora for a few hours and then start a movie from Google Cloud in HD. After the movie I went to the store and one of my kids plug the phone into the charger as you can see for about 10 to 15 mins (sorry about that). I returned and started to play some music from Google cloud again for about an hour. I then moved on to Netflix for a movie. No WiFi, screen on full time and streaming music and videos. Yeah I like the battery, not sure how much data I just ate up!!!!!! But it was a fun test for you all.
Sorry forgot about this part. I was asked around noon to start the test thats why you see wifi on from 7 or 8am to noon So when I started I had around 83% of battery.

There's no way this phone (or any phone) can do that. This phone's onscreen time is only about 3 hours I've heard - there's no way it's 20-60 hours. It really is too bad that they didn't release (or at least announce) a maxx like version with more rom and battery that costs $100 more. That shouldn't be complicated to do and I think the Razr Maxx has proven it's worthwhile. Battery life wise I'd want to know how it does while running an intense app before buying one of these, because in a year there may be apps that push all 4 cores.
No need to have a tantrum since we don't have many experiences yet. Also, this is an Android not THE iphone. We do have choices, remember? If battery life bothers someone so much, get the Maxx HD (or the Note2 if it isn't too big for them).

If this is right, I'm seeing about 3 hours of cumulative Screen On Time. And you still had 30% left.
that's better that my GN LTE which gets 1 hr screen on time with 40% left.

I just called out HTC, asking them to make a premium no-compromise product.

I posted this on HTC's Facebook page:
I just wanted to let you know I've chosen not to get the DROID DNA.
The device has amazing specs, from the high quality screen (SLCD) to the performance (my personal favorite is off screen buttons). However the battery is far too small and will not last an entire work day. Also the amount of storage memory is far too low to be functional. If this device shipped with a 2500 or 3300mAh battery and a microSD card slot, I’d pay full retail for it. For now, I will have to use the Motoroal RAZR MAXX HD.
Please HTC, produce a premium no-compromise product; push it to all carriers and regain the crown of smartphone leader.

I really want this phone, but almost no usable local storage and a battery that won't make it to 5pm is unacceptable. Please like the comment on their Facebook page. I feel that if HTC actually knew people would pay top dollar for a PREMIUM NO-COMPROMISE phone, they'd actually make it. Imagine a DROID DNA with a 3300mAh battery and 128GB storage or a microSD, with a minimum guarantee of 3 software upgrades. I'd pay $400 on-contract for that. No problem.
Find it, like it.

You people complaining about battery life crack me up. Never even used the device, yet you know it wont make it all day! The one person on the boards that does have it posted that he was on over a day of use with 42% of battery left!! His estimation was 3 hours of screen on time. I'll take that!! So before you cry on Facebook, wait till the phone actually comes out and reviews come in.

There is no possible way that a 2080mAh battery will be able to power that furnace-of-a-display with heavy use all day long.
My RAZR MAXX is down to 20% when I plug in most days. I seriously doubt HTC has pulled out a magical battery bunny.

Doesn't the Droid DNA have the S4 Pro processor? Doesn't it use less power leading you to have a good amount of battery life even if the battery itself isn't all that big? Just putting that out there...

Hmm, that'd be interesting to see. I don't Pandora a whole lot, but I do YouTube. Though I wouldn't dream of using YouTube in any quantity over LTE. I'd burn off my data in a few days.
Typical usage for me is ~2 hours of voice calls, 1-2 hours of navigation and screen on about 5 hours or so. I don't work in an office but rely heavily on remaining 'connected' so the phone gets used, heavily.
Reality is I'll probably end up with a DNA at some point, I'm just pissy about the battery and storage. It's pretty pitiful when my brand new smartphone can't replace my 4 year old MP3 player.

What I'd really like is to try it myself How do you get so lucky and get to have this phone right now? I'll do whatever it takes. I promise I'll quit crying about battery and memory at once!
S4 Pro + New LCD technology = better energy use. I can't say whether or not the S4/LCD will consume more or less power, but I can say that they'll be more power efficient in comparison to a phone using older tech. 2020mah battery seems decent.
As well, kind of seems strange to me to try and compare the device to the MAXX lines, they're devices created with battery life as a priority, and let's not forget that they weren't created that way at first. In Motorola's marketing strategy it was RAZR first, then the MAXX. Suddenly so many people who had the RAZR needed the MAXX. Moto earned a nice bit of extra profit. Who's to say HTC might not do the same?

That's what I'm afraid of. If they release something a little better, DNA+ or something, with bigger battery and memory card slot, I'd be so, so upset. But there are no leaks like that at the moment. And I'd rather not wait 6 months, too.

HTC need to listen to their customer. Put replaceble battrey phone into product line.
All this complaining when no one has used the phone is hilarious. Everyone is just ASSUMING they know the battery life will be crap. You don't know what HTC has pulled off since you aren't HTC.
Highlydoubt HTC would sell a phone if it only lasted 2 hours or whatever short amount of time you all expect. If that's the case, they'd make no money off it because everyone would return it.

Right, you believe that then I have a ice cube factory to sell you in Anartica. Come on, I have the SGS3 with a 2100mAh battery running Jelly Bean. The Droid has a 2020mAh battery, over sized display with more pixels than Carter has pills and let's not forget LTE. He may have gotten that phone thru a day without using LTE, no videos and very little use, real use. To me this phone is a no buy, will never buy a top of the line device like that without storage and battery. On top of all this I would bet the phone has a locked down bootloader.
The Note 2 might not have the same quality screen but that doesn't bother me, I like the idea of plenty of storage, great battery, the software is killer, did I say killer, yep and the developers will be all over this phone. The Note 2 is a easy choice over the new Droid.
It's too bad the phone had everything going for it and they cheap out with the parts that cost the least to add to a phone. I would much rather have the phone a little thicker with a larger battery and plenty of int storage. If their not going to give you an sd card then the minimum of int storage should be 32gb. The available storage on the new Droid is probably about 11-12mb. That is a complete fail IMO.
Just My Opinion

Just to let you know stop comparing the DNA to the note 2 it is not a phablet. This phone has no features that would make it one. So in theory this is the best large Smartphone on the market.

One of the people is testing the battery with movies, LTE, and bunch of other crap. He said he'll post the results.
How do you possible think that a 16 GB phone will only allow you 11-12mb of storage? Can you please tell where the remaining 15 GB just vanished off to?

Are there any devices now in the market that can beat battery life of GNote 2?

I meant as a daily driver, to fit your really everyday usage pattern, not first one week usage pattern, not too busy in life so no time checking phone usage pattern. Nor turn off everything to conserve battery usage pattern.
I bought and returned a Z10, simply due to the horrible battery life recently.

You're English is way off. I'm confused as to what the message of this thread is. The title basically says the note 2 has bad battery life but you say it's better then the z10? I think it's a question of whether there is anything out that can match the Note 2. If so, not really. The Moto RAZR MAXX series is probably the closest. Outside of that, I don't think anyone else even comes close.

I can't speak for the One, Z10, or the S4, which I think has smaller batteries than the Note 2 but they may handle the OS better therefore increasing battery life. Will it be up to the Note 2's? Doubt it. Having come from a Thunderbolt I can say I'm really spoiled by the Note 2's batt life. Never want to have to bring a USB cable everywhere again!

My RAZR MAXX came close in battery life to my Note 2. I've heard that the RAZR MAXX HD is much more efficient than the RAZR MAXX so I'd imagine that the RAZR MAXX HD has better battery life than the Note 2.
The N2 has a friggin 3100 (or is it 3300?) mAh battery, what do you expect?
I will say that CM10.1 based roms really kill the battery, though. I remember getting 2 days out of my phone on touchwiz roms, but on my current rom I'm lucky if I can get 12-15 hours out of it.
yes... I have to say, for GNote 2, I don't try custom rom anymore. Don't want to lose those TouchWiz features.

LOL.. I read this thread and at first couldn't figure out what ppl were complaining about regarding the title of the thread. Looks good to me (now).
As for Note 2, I believe the Razr Maxx or Maxx HD will match or beat the battery life of the Note 2. I'm just happy to see ANY phone approach the life of the maxx series.
I've had my Note 2 since release and have been absolutely blown away by the battery life. It has truly changed how I use a phone on a daily basis.
I used to plug in my phone EVERYWHERE (OG Droid, Gnex). Get in the car.. plug it in. Get to work.. plug it in, plug plug plug. I had to do this because I could run my Gnex dead in 3 hours if I did anything on it. I always felt like It HAD to be at 100% charge.
The Note2 has me feeling liberated! It took a while to STOP plugging it in all the time like a cord addict.. but now I am free! lol I plug it in at night and will usually not plug in again during the day unless I'm tethering. at night I'll usually check the battery and often won't plug it in, getting 2 days off a charge.
I've long hoped that manufacturers would look at what Moto has done with betteries.. it's great to see Sammy has an answer, and others are following.
dumbphones have battery life lol, thats why they dumb, cuz having battery life on a phone is stupid.... I love the gn2 its a quality phone with well thought out features and decent modifications to android. most of the time some company comes out with a new idea the first generations are pretty terrible.
I'm running tweaked with saberkernal, and the battery blows my mind. While the screen is blazing, I usually don't lose more than 10-20 percent in a full hour. But the stand by time is when it shines. On wi-fi with all pushes and syncs running I never lose more than 3 percent in 8 hours overnight. Blows the Gnex, the DNA, the Rezound, the Fascinate, so far out of the water there's no comparison.
I always bought a giant extended battery for my other phones that were compatible with them. I haven't even considered it for this one. I'd consider getting an S4 because it's new and shiny, but that battery being 2300 Mah...is sounding pretty Meh....
The only time my battery seems to drop is when I'm in an extremely bad signal area and it's working overtime to try and maintain signal. I was in a WW2 Battleship today and lost a few percent in 2 hours today. I guess that's a sign.
