OTG Cable - HTC Droid DNA

I have tried two different cables, every app on the market, thumb drives, powered harddrives, sd card adapter, and even a mouse and keyboard I cannot for the life of me get my phone to recognize any of them. I am on tranquil Rom with crpalmers latest kernel. I have also tried zorbos's kernel. Am I missing something stupidly simple?

I'm on ecliptic with crpalmers kernel, and its working fine for me. I think OTG compatibility is in the kernel, but the ROM has to be able to look to the kernel for it. Try a different ROM or kernel setup.

so I tried your setup and it did not work. I went and got a powered usb hub and tried it with that and it did not work. I plugged my otg cable into my buddys S3 and it worked immediately lol. maybe its just not meant for me

Might have a bum cable. I use a samsung cable I made into a otg and never have any issues. With 4.3 and cepalmers kernel. Also used tranquil with crpalmers and beastmode and they work flawless with the cable I converted. So problem might be with your cable.

StickMount??? It works for me... look it up in the play store.

I never had to use stickmount on my DNA.

Never had a problem here. I think there are Samsung specific otg cables just like there are Samsung mhl cables.

Samsung specific stuff? That would explain my MHL problems with my Samsung cable.

[Q] Rezound USB Adapter

I'm curious if there is an adapter for the MHL port to a female USB port. I have one for my Xoom, and since ICS has USB host support, I wanted to try it out.
EDIT: Also when I restore a nandroid, how do I restore the kernel?
i can answeer your second question... use the nand droid helper that con made... its in the dev section or flash a ph98img with the boot.img in it manually or by computer

I got one of these cables on amazon for $15. But I can't get it to work. I want to run an app that will use my phone to control my DSLR, but can't get it's free version to see anything. It acts like it can work, but never does. I hope it's just not turned on in the leaked kernal, and when we get official ICS, they will turn it on, or at least when we get the kernal source, one of the devs will turn host controlling on.
I also could just be doing something wrong, as I've never tried this before.
Edit: it's called a usb OTG cable.

USB OTG Cables

I just ordered my USB OTG Cable today. For those that don't know what it means, it stands for USB On-The-Go. Basically, it allows you to read files from a portable flash drive straight from your phone. This will only work with a compatable kernel and since we have an ICS Source the developers said it was already enabled within the kernel.
This will be my first time to have ever used one and I was just wondering the pros and cons of having something like this.
I need some feed back~~
well from my POV these are my pros and cons...
PROS:
Extra space (whatever you can get that hooks up to usb, 2tb!!)
CONS:
Lugging around the extra crap
You have a good con list ziggy46..lol
I was concerned about that as well. But I have a 500gb portable external hard drive and it has tons of crap that I can probably watch or listen to on my phone. I can't shove everything on my 32gb sdcard. My 1T sits on my desk for my wife's photography thing she does.
My friend has an OTG cable and he uses his usb mouse to control his phone.
It's pretty cool but really gimmicky.
Hmmm...interesting. Thanks for the tip
if your otg cable works out good for you let us know. i might buy one and get a 2tb usb hdd.
btw, if things are fomatted in NTFS you might need to make a script for them to mount to the phone...
HTC doesn't support USB OTG in general. It will require a kernel hack. It didn't work in GB. I am not sure about ICS.
From what kozmick mentioned in his kernel thread it was enabled in the kernel. Im hoping it works if not then I hope it works on the N7 or my wife's SGS2.

There are things enabled in ics kernel that are not in gb kernel. 2 way call recording is one example.

I still have my OTG cable from my Nokia N8. I wonder if it will work..
Normally USB otg won't work on an HTC device. According to faux its something about the USB stack.
Ok. So I FINALLY got my USB-OTG Cable and even with the enabeled kernel it does not work. Kinda bummed but the part was cheap so its not a major loss. It works on ky wife's SGS2 and I read that it will work on the Idolian tablet I just ordered so I'm cool with that. I'll try and sell the other 3 that I won't need.

Just wondering, for the usb otg on the sgs2, did you need to connect the ext hd with power source? Or is the sgs2 able to power the ext hd?
It was able to power it just fine. I was just using a 2GB flash drive to test and you can see the led light come on. Not sure how well it could keep the charge up tho.

I think it doesn't work with the custom kernels, but I believe the stock kernel supports it

MHL not working - any ideas?

Hi guys, I got an oem MHL to hdmi cable from eBay, one specifically for the galaxy s3.
I received it today and while the phone seems to detect it's attached to a screen (audio set to hdmi out, landscape mode), the two devices I can connect it to both register nothing connected.
Is there something missing? The first device is a monitor using a hdmi to dvi adapter, the second is a 720p tv with hdmi in. The tv allows me to select the hdmi it's plugged into but says there's no signal.
Does anyone have any ideas?

maybe the adapter does not work with the S3 after all.
Maybe you will find some solution in the accessories threat or here
Can you post up the link to the advert you bought it from?

Thanks. I think it should work, the item description is pretty clear.. http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com.au/viewitem?itemId=200829302467
I might see if I can test it on some more tvs. There was a suggestion it may not work with a 720p device.
Sad thing is, they're all Samsung screens.
Are you powering the device from another USB port.
All MHL adapters and cables for the Galaxy S2/3 need to be powered by an external USB port.

Ok it looks like it might be an issue with the ROM, using an AOKP build of JB 4.1.2
Apparently it doesn't support the TV out - shame, I thought I'd finally found the ROM I was going to stick with
Does anyone know a way of getting it working under AOKP?
sorry man, but only on stock roms you can use tv-out. At least for now, lets hope the sources promised for november include mhl tv-out propietary driver from samsung.

Thanks man - I might go to omega's stock-based rom and see if I can get any love with that. Cheers for the help everyone
Edit: For anyone finding this by search later, using a stock ROM does fix the issue. God I can't wait to go back to AOKP though, stock is terrible

If you get the cheap ones there's a huge chance of it not working just from looking through feedback on the Internet. Just spend a bit extra and get a samsung one.
Ive tried mine on many different roms and kernels and it always works.
P.s has anyone managed to get netflix in 16.9 widescreen using the mhl adaptor on jelly bean?:crying:
It's the samsungs 1, that i bought from my carrier. And adapter is fine since my friend got it work with note 2 :/

Ethernet OTG?

I have Ethernet up and running on my nexus 7 but can't seem to on my S3. I bought a different otg cable specific to the s3, but the Ethernet adapter just doesn't want to play ball. Is this even possible on an s3? If so, has anyone got it working, and using what adapter?
I'm unlocked, rooted and on 4.1.2.
Do I need a custom rom such as cm10?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I have never been able to hook up Ethernet to my s3. Also look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710147 they can't do it to. what kernel you running? try siyah.
Thanks for the reply. I've moved onto cm10.1 nightly and still can't get it working. Netcfg doesn't list the USB interface when its plugged in
Kernel is 3.03.31-cm-gc3e546e
Any help much appreciated. I am planning on wiring a cat5 point into my bedroom, but prob won't bother if I can't get it working on the s3

Mhl Cable Glitches

Hey, sixcarnage here,
I recently bought an mhl cable on ebay. It glitches up and blanks out on the TV screen, but then I tried turning the wifi off and it seemed normal. Also the phone doesn't charge during...but I'm Ok with that, but still.
I currently am running a senseless rom. Blackout Mongoose with the custom kernel. ATT.
Do you have any issues? This is not the official cable by the way.

There is no where near enough power running through HDMI to charge your phone. Are you using an official MHL cable or a 3rd party one?
Third party
I have this problem with my galaxy nexus with Samsung and third party mhl adapters, ITN works fine in airplane mode or with WiFi on.... The best I can tell is when data is sent over 3g or 4g it causes the signal to cut out... I have tried different Roms and kernals.

It's prob going to be a quality issue guys. I've bought many 3rd party accessories for my phone. Most have either not worked or not worked as advertised.
