Hi gang,
This may not be the right place for this...hoping to get some help.
My phone wouldn't boot past the glowing Samsung logo this morning. This has never happened before.
I'm looking for solutions before I do a factory reset (backed up my phone a few months ago but haven't been able to do since because my charging port on my phone continually breaks).
Any advice or ways I can try to safe my data with my only option being my SD card?
Additionally, is a factory reset the best option for this?
Thanks!

1st Rule: Don't complain until you haven't tried factory reset.

If you're rooted with a custom recovery, make a nandroid backup. That should backup almost everything on your internal system memory. If you have access to ADB, you could also pull your data and files out. :good:

Hello! I am new to these forums....
Background....
I bought a Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2 several months ago and it worked great in the beginning. Then one day it crashed and would not boot. It would show the "SAMSUNG" boot screen, sit that way for 20ish seconds, then the screen would go black and it would repeat the process. At that point the rooted image was out and I wanted to try it out anyway so I flashed the rooted image to it and it worked great and was faster in my opinion. Until several days ago when it crashed again.
The problem....
Several days ago I was using it and it hung. So I held down the power button to force a restart like I had done many times before. But it started going into the boot and then reboot process. I let it sit for a while, and then tried it again and it started! Worked for 2 days, but crashed 2 or 3 times (and was slow as well) in that period when the device was idle. I was not even using it and I would look down at it and it was restarting. Then it crashed this morning and it is boot looping again. I have let it sit without the battery in for over an hour and tried again and it still will not boot.
The question...
Is there any way to fix the device without reflashing the original rom? I have done that before and I can access the download menu (Home+Vol-) and the factory reset and clear cache options (Home+Vol+) so that is not an issue. I have all of my personal data stored on the sd card. But app data is not on the sd card. And I would like to not have to re-install and re-setup all of the apps again. So is there a way to fix it without restoring the device to defaults or is that my only option?
I have searched but cannot find much information specific to the 4.2 player about this issue. Thanks in advance for the help!
EDIT:
Just got some information from a Samsung chat person. They said that a hard reset (Home + Vol+) then factory reset is the only option in their knowledge. And that this problem was not in their database. And if the hard reset doesn't work then to send the device in for service.
You might as well do a factory reset . I suspect any flashing of the player will end up with your having to set up the apps over again, anyway. Unfortunately we don't have a lot of ROM selection, and tools to work with on this player.
Thanks!

Thanks for the help! I tried doing the factory reset and it is still boot looping. So I think I am going to send the device in. Thanks again!
It's fixed. I think the 3 way recovery rom worked.
Hi all, I have been searching for hours and have made numerous attempts to fix this on my own. And have concluded i might have to send it to Samsung for a motherboard replacement.
Scenario:
S3 stuck on first boot screen.
Can't get into OS/ROM.
Can get into Recovery/Download Mode.
Phone cant mount /sdcard/ nor can it mount /efs/ -- aka nothing on internal storage is accessible.
How? -- Well I dont know. My battery was at 1% last night when I woke up and screen was frozen and my phone was hot so I pulled out battery. Let it cool and charge it. Next thing I find out is its just stuck.
What I've tried -- I wiped data and cache and restored a backup, as usual if something goes wrong. But then i noticed it couldnt mount sdcard. I flashed stock ROM from odin. Stock recovery said it couldnt mount efs.. which meant its soft bricked. I do not have a efs backup. I tried to flash the 3 part ROM and every possible fix... but no luck.
So what i need help with:
1.) Is there a way to reset flash counter in Download mode (its at 1) without Triangle Away? Because I cant even get into OS. Cant send it back or it'll void warranty.
2.) I figure the issue would go away if I somehow restore an efs backup? If thats the case would anyone be willing to help me out, just need to borrow the efs backup to get into OS and use Triangle Away. Ill just delete the efs folder and rebrick it after resetting my count. Idk how I may rebrick but do you guys think it may work? I mean I do not need anyone on here to give me their backup as I know its important. I could just find another device nearby if no ones willing to help.
I am stumped. Any advice or suggestion is appreciated. I know I shouldve backed up but I really dont know why it happened. Sigh.
Oh and its an international quad core S3.

So out of nowhere, my Note II shuts off last night and I'm unable to boot. When turning the phone on, the SGNII splash screen shows up just fine, but then my phone will endlessly loop back and forth between the Samsung animation and the Verizon 4G LTE animation.
This phone has never been rooted and runs the stock version of everything. Now I would do a factory reset if it weren't for the fact that I have very important photos and videos of my grandmother who recently passed away in my internal storage.
I have tried going into recovery mode (home+volume up+sleep/wake), clearing cache, trying to access the internal memory via USB, and nothing works. I do not think that I ever enabled USB debugging. I desperately need to have a phone to use, but at the same time would rather go phone-less with hopes that I may be able to recover these photos. I have spent countless hours trying to recover this data or even fix the bootloop, but I can't seem to figure out a solution.
I know I am a noob on these forums, but I would GREATLY appreciate being able to recover any part of these immensely important photos. If anyone has a way to recover these photos, I would forever be in gratitude for sharing it with me. Thank you.

If you didnt enable USB debugging your gonna be hard pressed to recover anything from the internal storage. This is why I always use an external SD card for all info like this.

Only bump once every 24 hours.
Does a stock reset even wipe internal completely? I THINK it just reflashes the rom...kernel...and modem. Other than that the post above is dead on. You gonna have a hard time recovering the photos. Sorry for the loss of your Grandma.

I would like to know if you founded a solution about your problem.
Hi everyone,
I have a Galaxy S II from Bell Canada and it was recently updated via Kies to Android 4.1.2 a couple weeks ago. I've been having all sorts of problems with it since the update, including random freezing, crashing, and so on, so I intended to backup and factory reset this weekend. Before I could do that however, it shutdown and now I can't boot it back up.
Symptoms:
- The phone gets past the Samsung Galaxy S II animation, but then goes immediately to the glowing SAMSUNG logo and stays that way for several minutes before shutting down.
- Battery power is not an issue. Half-full to full battery makes no difference.
- Connecting it to my PC allows Windows 7 to install most of the needed drivers, except it fails on 'MTP USB device failed'. This might simply be because the phone doesn't fully boot.
What I've tried:
- Multiple reboots (shutdown and restart)
- Removing the SD card and multiple reboots
- Wiping the cache partition several times and booting via the stock recovery menu (reached by Volume + Home + Power)
I have backups but from several months ago, so anything I can do to flash the firmware and retain my data would be appreciated. I've looked at other threads but many users seem to have slightly different issues or are with other carriers. I haven't played around with flashing or anything since getting the phone two years ago, so I don't know how much of a difference their steps would be from mine.
The phone is either just inside the warranty period or just outside... I don't have the exact date if that makes a difference here.
Any help tracking down the issue or helping to get it back to functional would be appreciated.
Firstly, from your post it looks your phone is not rooted. If that is the case then i am afraid we are left with not much options to try.
I would advise, if u want to come out of this issue and data is not the concdrn then do a hard reset by getting into the recovery console.
And, if you are rooted than simply reinstall the rom without resetting anything. This will bring back the rom and you will also not loose any data.

That's correct, the phone isn't rooted. I'd like to exhaust all other options before attempting something that will wipe the data... is it possible to determine the exact problem some other way?
Nope. If it were me I'd be doing a wipe (and this wouldn't faze me because I back my stuff up regularly).

Looks difficult to save the data. But you may try, i am not sure it will work.
find out a compatible rooted kernel. Get into the download mode and with the help of odin flash this kernel. (ensure its *.tar file ).
Once done try to boot the phone. if no luck, clear the cache and then again try. Still no luck, then i am afraid you have to hard reset.
Best of luck.
Hi, i have little (or maybe big) problem with my Vienna. Yesterday phone asked for Wireless Update and i allowed it. So Update started to install, almost finished it. But at the end it just gave error and rebooted and then there is just Ulefone logo after what it gives No command error and just continues to bootloop. I tried to wipe cache through recovery and even factory reset. It just wipes my data and thats it. No factory reset. I cant restore backup either. It just says no SD card. I'm kinda new Android user, so i dont know what to do next. Kinda frustrated about that update. It basically bricked my phone. Anyways phone is running stock 5.1 version. Thanks who can help me with this :fingers-crossed:

This had happened to me too. Try to update it again trough sd card by getting into recovery mode (youll find vids how to get into recovery mode). The 6.0 version isnt very good (it can hanlde more apps though, I have ~500 apps). BUT, MOST IMPORTANTLY; after the upgrade factory restet the phone (more than once would, I think, better). I didnt do that and I think I should, since that may enable me now to get again in recovery mode (yeah, now buttons dont work, Ive to do this via PC), my phone maybe would be more compatible with PCs and I may was able to root it. By the way, there is another xda forum about ulefone vienna where you could get more answers and Im not a professional. I hope I helped (with some months delay).
