Hi guys,
so my friend gave me her i9100 (international) saying it was broken and did not turn on. It didn't turn on indeed. After holding the power button for a short time (about 3 secs) it does not react at all. If I keep the button pressed for like 8 secs, it shows the white Samsung logo and stays that way. If i try to enter recovery, the android with the stuff spinning in it's belly appears, but it does not go any futher than that. I have not tried entering the download mode though, as it's my last resort. Have any of you encountered this problem? Or is reflashing with odin my only option? I've tried switching batteries, taking it out and etc. already.
Thanks.
P.S. The device has never been rooted nor it had a custom ROM.

Oh, as I've never done this on a S2, on a Galaxy S this combination would enter the download mode. I'll try this and see if it works.

If the phone's never been messed with & you're messing with it now as opposed to sending it in for warranty service, that makes you (you clearly have no experience whatsoever with this device) and her (for not sending it in for warranty service in the first place) fools. If you stuff it up, she's going to still have a non-working phone & she'll be paying almost as much as the phone's worth 2nd hand to have it fixed.

Volume up and power is nvflash. You get out of it by holding the power button down. Nvflash does work if you edit the driver and install but it doesnot support tegra 3 yet. It says unknown device.

Nvflash is a tool to backup and restore any partition on a terga based device. APX mode is the mode you use to get nvflash talking to the device. Its like fastboot for android.
it's essentially a low level boot used to flash system images to the device.
something like recovery, similar to samsung devices "download" mode

So I was in the middle of messing with my note, rooted already and working great. Just downloaded a ROM to the SD. Not installing anything. Note not plugged in but 98% on battery.
All of a sudden the screen is blank. Can't get anything to turn on. Don't see anything on the screen. Nothing. Changed battery, plugged it in, no dice nothing.
Ideas? Hardware issue?
Any and all help is appreciated.
By the way was on stock ROM.
Really any help is appreciated.
Try downloading and running the is odin one click. And try to put your phone in download mode. if it does not work. hardware failure and youll need a new device
I would try the above, download mode, all different modes of the phone to see what's working.
Also i would try holding the power button for 8 mississippi seconds and see if it vibrates.

All I want is a stable ICS ROM to run on this thing....
I have never used a Vibrant before, I am doing this for a friend and I am kinda playing it by ear. This phone is so crazy, coming from a Galaxy Nexus this thing is so complicated, lol.
airplane mode thing didn't work, it cannot find network.
It is doing this with any 4.0+ ROM I try, and every time I flash a new ROM it keeps changing recoveries on me, I've gone thru like 5 recoveries...
Not only that but half the ROMs won't flash, and I cannot find a GB ROM to try out to see if I can get radio working again.
And how the hell do I get into download mode? vol dn + Power just bootloops the splash screen.
This phone is so insane.

Thanks a bunch man, here goes nothing.
I got into a bootloop of Doom in recovery, so ODINed stock 2.2, now I have to root/flash again :s will report back
sigh....
did an Odin stock flash, used the toolbox to root, then used the toolbox to "flash custom ROM" selected this ROM,
it starts to flash then reboots, then gets into a recovery mount error, and restart loop, so now my recovery is borked, looks like i have to Odin AGAIN.
Is there a better way to flash this ROM than the toolbox? I feel like it's using a bad version of CWM or something. Once i root it, what do I do?
edit: I'm going to Odin stock while I wait for reply
Usually when you get into a boot loop all you have to do is go back into recovery in reflash the rom. that should take care of the problem but if it doesent you can always just re wipe and reflash the rom again then reeboot recovery and flash again. don't forget to flash the gapps I c s version

From stock 2.2 I go to root -> flash custom blah, it flashes/loads cwm and I do the ROM.zip thing, then bam recovery is borked...

Kernel?
Are you sure you've flashed the kernel properly?
Viper is based on sense, is it not? I'm not sure it can even run on the stock kernel, but it sounds like that might be the issue.
Since we can't get the phone S-OFF yet, you have to flash the kernel through ADB. Are you sure you did that properly?

Your power button is stuck. The same thing happened to mine. To remedy this, DON'T use the power button. Use volume to wake device up. Then program a button to turn screen off. Holding search button is my power off. Screen shots can be programmed too.
After awhile your button will become unstuck after not using it much. You'll still have to be careful though.
I was having issues with mine vibrating continuously a few times and and the Samsung logo would show up but then just go back to black.. I was able to get it into recovery mode to reflash that's why I mentioned it.

I had this happen with my first i717 Note on AT&T. It happened shortly after it fell out of my lap. Everything else checked out and it ended up being a cable that had popped off. I buy my devices at BestBuy and always get black tie coverage, so I just took it back. New phone was there in 2 days time.
Yeah, many things lead to the almost dead phone. I didn't think about dropping-cable/connector unseating. That will go on my list of likely causes to investigate. Thanks.
This happened to me after I upgraded my twrp to 2.4.?- the newest version. It made my phone go nuts, unstable, and I had triple vibrates with no power on. Very weird! What fixed it- I long pressed power for 10-15 seconds, it triple vibrated, and then pushed power again and it would boot.
Also had trouble getting into the new recovery. I would hold volume -and+, power, wait for the triple vibration, release power- keep holding volumes till samsung flashed on screen, then release volumes. Then recovery would pop up.
After I rolled back to an older twrp, it was as normal as always.
I also had this issue once and it was battery related. Apparently the battery was so low that all it did was vibrate. So, you might want to check that as well.
i am experiencing the same issue tried everything i could thing of (battery pull, press and hold power button etc) everything but nothing worked please help
