yeah also.. if you have a phone case on it... a tight one... it may be mashing on the power button... take the phone out of its case if you have one on it.... do a battery pull and try again.
good luck

Sounds like a brick! Try flashing ROM again.

Your power button is stuck. The same thing happened to mine. To remedy this, DON'T use the power button. Use volume to wake device up. Then program a button to turn screen off. Holding search button is my power off. Screen shots can be programmed too.
After awhile your button will become unstuck after not using it much. You'll still have to be careful though.

I was having issues with mine vibrating continuously a few times and and the Samsung logo would show up but then just go back to black.. I was able to get it into recovery mode to reflash that's why I mentioned it.

Its not a brick if there's any sign of life. Does a brick vibrate itself?

Yes I , too , think you should boot into recovery. Do you know how to do that?

Have you ever seen a brick? They are not soft. Brick means 100% dead.
Grow up.

I had this happen with my first i717 Note on AT&T. It happened shortly after it fell out of my lap. Everything else checked out and it ended up being a cable that had popped off. I buy my devices at BestBuy and always get black tie coverage, so I just took it back. New phone was there in 2 days time.

Yeah, many things lead to the almost dead phone. I didn't think about dropping-cable/connector unseating. That will go on my list of likely causes to investigate. Thanks.

This happened to me after I upgraded my twrp to 2.4.?- the newest version. It made my phone go nuts, unstable, and I had triple vibrates with no power on. Very weird! What fixed it- I long pressed power for 10-15 seconds, it triple vibrated, and then pushed power again and it would boot.
Also had trouble getting into the new recovery. I would hold volume -and+, power, wait for the triple vibration, release power- keep holding volumes till samsung flashed on screen, then release volumes. Then recovery would pop up.
After I rolled back to an older twrp, it was as normal as always.

I also had this issue once and it was battery related. Apparently the battery was so low that all it did was vibrate. So, you might want to check that as well.

i am experiencing the same issue tried everything i could thing of (battery pull, press and hold power button etc) everything but nothing worked please help

Blank screen and no signs of life

So I was in the middle of messing with my note, rooted already and working great. Just downloaded a ROM to the SD. Not installing anything. Note not plugged in but 98% on battery.
All of a sudden the screen is blank. Can't get anything to turn on. Don't see anything on the screen. Nothing. Changed battery, plugged it in, no dice nothing.
Ideas? Hardware issue?
Any and all help is appreciated.
By the way was on stock ROM.
Really any help is appreciated.
Try downloading and running the is odin one click. And try to put your phone in download mode. if it does not work. hardware failure and youll need a new device
I would try the above, download mode, all different modes of the phone to see what's working.
Also i would try holding the power button for 8 mississippi seconds and see if it vibrates.
hmmm

It's probably an issue with cwm and it's also probably related to the type of kernel. To say the truth, I don't think it's that big a deal. It has posed no real problems to me when flashing, and if anything, removing the battery will do the trick. A minor inconvenience in an otherwise perfect tool.
yes, i encountered this issue too. I wonder how to turn off phone from recovery without take out battery

Its not a big deal, but its annoying. You'll have to wait till your phone boots to be able to turn it off. Taking off the case, then taking off the battery cover and taking out the battery is a lot of work to just turn your phone off.

[Q] Charging while powered down backlight?

Does anyone know if the backlight is suppose to stay on when the phone is charging while powered off? I was going to sleep and noticed after the battery indicator went away the backlight was slightly lit. Can anyone check on their phone for me? It's only noticeable in the dark. It's just unsettling that the blacklight be on for 8+ hours a night.
Mine does it to. If I remember right turning it off while plugged in stops that from happening.
Glad I'm not the only one. It bugs me a lot. I had to turn my phone on while it was charging just to make sure the back light stayed off. I'll try plugging it in then powering off.

Yeah if you flash the Alternate Teenybin with LGNPST it fixes the bootloader/fastboot. This fixes the backlight while phone is powered down. And also adds visual graphics to the fastboot menu. (No more navigating blindly.)

If you are Stock JB, rooted, and already unlocked, just flash the alt teenybin. You won't lose any data or have to reflash your Rom. But I would ask in the teenybin thread just to make sure.

OH that was my mistake. The backlight issue isn't fixed with the new alt bin/bootloader. I also remember someone saying that if you plug in the charger and then power down the phone it works. Maybe that's why it appeared to be fixed on my device. I specifically remember after flashing the alt bin I charged my phone while it was off and noticed that the backlight stayed off. Not sure why but I just tried it again and sure enough the backlight stayed on. That sucks. I've gotten into the habit of putting my phone on silent and charging while it is off. But I still don't like that. I wonder if the freegee devs know?

Hi guys,
so my friend gave me her i9100 (international) saying it was broken and did not turn on. It didn't turn on indeed. After holding the power button for a short time (about 3 secs) it does not react at all. If I keep the button pressed for like 8 secs, it shows the white Samsung logo and stays that way. If i try to enter recovery, the android with the stuff spinning in it's belly appears, but it does not go any futher than that. I have not tried entering the download mode though, as it's my last resort. Have any of you encountered this problem? Or is reflashing with odin my only option? I've tried switching batteries, taking it out and etc. already.
Thanks.
P.S. The device has never been rooted nor it had a custom ROM.

If the phone's never been messed with & you're messing with it now as opposed to sending it in for warranty service, that makes you (you clearly have no experience whatsoever with this device) and her (for not sending it in for warranty service in the first place) fools. If you stuff it up, she's going to still have a non-working phone & she'll be paying almost as much as the phone's worth 2nd hand to have it fixed.

I've ran the latest C ROM with KT kernel with no problems. Have you tried pulling the battery and waiting a minute or two then putting it back in and try to get back into TWRP?? You should be able to. What you did should not brick the phone... It just probably isn't going to boot normally with errors after a kernel flash.
I'd try that and maybe update your TWRP if needed. Then re download the kernel and make sure it's the AOSP-Kit Kat version.
Reflash ROM+ new kernel and you should be good.

I did something like this and totally borked my S4. I accidentally flashed a note2 kernel and when it said that there was an error, I disregarded it and rebooted. Big mistake! I needed to get a replacement. Just letting ya know that you're probably out of luck. Because it was so borked and odin couldnt fix it, i was worried that I'd be charged for rooting it. (I'm a corporate VZW rep) but i sent it back anyways and crossed my fingers. Took one day to get replacement and all was well. Luckily my replacement was an MDK, so i was able to immediately root the replacement =)
Good luck man.

I just had the same thing happen to me a week ago or so when I was flashing a kernel that was supposedly for my phone, however it wasn't.
It took me quite a few battery pulls and continuous attempts at getting into recovery.
When you pull the battery and wait a few then try to get into recovery are you still seeing the little blue words stating that it's booting into recovery? And did you get the unauthorized software detected screen? Or yours is just looping and vibrating and that's it?!
I'm not saying you guys are all wrong and I know anything is possible but after a battery pull and waiting a minute you should be able to at least get into download mode even if flashing that kernel somehow borked your recovery ... I would think.

Flashing the wrong kernel not meant for your phone model will cause this to happen. If you can't get into Download mode you are probably screwed.
Just make sure you are attempting Download Mode properly:

The "Custom" warning is irrelevant. If it boots, you're done.
As usual, if you care about the "Custom" warning, revert to factory stock.
(You can remove that warning using Triangle Away "Periodic system modified reset" or the Wanam security hacks.)

I hit volume key down to reboot and it just goes back to black screen with short vibrations. I'm scared to hit the volume up...

With the phone off hit Volume Down + Power once the download mode screen pops up you'd be hitting Volume Up to continue. Nothing to be scared of. At that point youd need to use Odin. Have you used Odin before?
