The Note 3 was launched today,
and confirmed 4.3 on it.
4.3 will come to other devices this October.
Hopefully this helps with the bootlader exploit.

Fat chance of any opportunities to unlock. We can always hope.
Cant wait for the note 3, the hands one video looks killer.
I just worried the battery life might be worse than the note 2. Bigger screen higher resolution but almost the same battery..

Maybe we'll get a Verizon pre-release leak of it which will also have an unlocked bootloader...

i'm on the s3 and running slimbean which is on android 4.3. you have to go to the developer option then enable ADB + ROOT APPS, or something of that nature, to install supersu. just fyi
speaking of 4.3, what do you guys think is meant by "lower latancy in input for gamepad buttons and joysticks" means?
It is mentioned in this droid life article.
http://www.droid-life.com/2013/07/24/a-look-at-whats-new-in-android-4-3/
It also has other 4.3 features to (hopefully) look forward to
I will stay on ME7 and have update apks frozen with TB. I like using Flash and 4.3 is not too Flash friendly. 4.2 is better with Flash. ME7 works great, good battery life and amazing low battery bleed in sleep mode. This may have more to do with resource hungry stock apps being frozen, but still completely happy with ME7. No desire to rock an already fine boat, IMO.
Most likely to the international version in October. And months later in the US.

I'm not clear on what you mean by this. Are you saying the Note 2 had bad battery life to begin with or that a similar size with higher specs all around might make it less enduring? I'm assuming you mean the latter since in my experience the N2 had the best battery life out of any phone I've had.
In any event I think that even though battery tech isn't advancing at near the rate that the other hardware is (meaning typically bigger batteries, not better), I believe that it is advancing to some degree and that the software itself is being tailored towards improved longevity. Each iteration of Android has yielded improved battery life and I've read here and there that 4.3 has some optimization software-wise that improves on battery life.

yea, i know note 2 had a great battery life, and im just afraid that with only a 100 mah boost, it might be slightly worse with the bumped up resolution and specs
Be aware, typically the Verizon release will trail 3-6 months of the international release. Not always, but almost always...
Why would they even bother getting 4.3 on it? Why not put any and all resources to getting 4.4 on the S4 since it is the flagship right now?

First off I would like to say I love my DNA from a hardware point of view. Everything about this phone's hardware is awesome. Secondly I don't mind sense. The problem comes in when Verizon gets in involved. With this being a Verizon only device Verizon has almost complete control. I want an unlock able bootloader and SD card slot, Google wallet and the other features Verizon left out form the J Butterfly. Because of this I may, still a possibility, sell this phone for either the M7 or the Samsung s4 depending on their specs. The main reason is these phones will be multi carrier devices with much more likely hood to receive updates and dev... Otherwise the DNA would be a perfect phone.

you guys are funny.
M7 99% isn't going to be unlockable on ATT or VZW without exploit. And if you import it, likely won't support all the bands we need.
Wanna place bets on the X phone being locked down?
Sorry verizon snuck into your home in the middle of the night and took away your sd card slot and google wallet. My phone happened to ship that way, so I don't mind as much.

No, you're not allowed. you must continue to use the DNA
Seriously, though, being "locked down" is a pretty lame reason considering you'll likely still face that. And, if you don't switch carriers, you likely won't get wallet either.
And outside of probably having more storage, what do those phones have that the DNA doesn't? M7 is downgrade from DNA imo.
I cam from the Razr Maxx so this phone is amazing in comparsion. I do miss the battery life but i can still so far get through a day no problem. Now the storage is where i want to jump ship.

Well there are solux screens, which the m7 is supposed to have, and will become standard soon.
The s4 should come with their octa core processor, and the x phone will likely have one if the next gen processors announced last month at ces.
I don't feel like finding links for all of that, but a quick Google search will give you all the info on those things.

The octa core processor is going to be useless. The industry hasnt even fully embraced quad core yet. Octa core is going to be a waste of battery and is just there for bragging rights.

No, how it works is that there are 4 super powerful cores and 4 low power cores. When it is not under stress it uses the low power cores but when it needs power it goes to the powerful cores. It actually offers up to 70% savings on batteries.

Not sure how a cpu offers 70% battery savings when it never is responsible for 70% of the total battery usage in the first place.
Reminds me of the stuff intel says.
I suppose time will tell.
At any rate, my initial retort was for the op. "no wallet", "no unlock", etc.

I don't think a octa core processor is going to be much useful. Most apps don't even use the quad cores on the newer phones. As for 70% less battery usage, we'll see about that haha...
The only problem i foresee having with the DNA is the 5'' screen...My hands aren't that big, and a 4.7'' would be nicer to have. I hope the M7 is awesome, and gets good development soon. CM mod + awesome phone = happy me

Again, its not 8 core in the fact that 8 full power cores are running, there are 4 high power/performance cores to do intensive tasks, then there are 4 low power cores which save lots of energy compared to current quad core processors. These 4 cores are what are used most of the time, they will handle simple tasks. Here's a good quote.
"Something like mapping data would be handled by the "little" processor, while graphic-intensive gaming would switch over to the "big" guys."
So what this means for the end user is higher performance for tasks that need it, but overall lower power consumption and better battery life. That isn't propaganda or a guess, it is a fact.

This is going to be a complicated configuration, will be interesting to see how it performs when it's released. I can only imagine the mpdecision and governor complications when we start introducing switching from slower processors to faster processors mid thread.
The reality is, when I use applications like "maps", most of the time 3 of the 4 cores are totally offline, and the core in use is ramping as needed. I can't yet dispute the benefits of running said application on a slower CPU, but it seems pretty counter-intuitive to the "go fast and sleep" mentality that has been a pillar behind cpu power improvements for years and years.
Time will tell.
One thing is for sure, we can hardly state "facts" when the item doesn't even exist yet. Until then, it absolutely is "speculation" and/or "a guess".
I'm not sure where everyone is hearing that Verizon is getting the M7 on launch. Last I heard, this is T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint on launch.
Running my mind ragged whether I should get the S4, the HTC One or the Moto X (or Droid Maxxx) (I know I know, camera. I know.)
What I was wondering was, since the S4 is Super AMOLED, does it have the ability to incorporate the active display that the Moto X has or is Super AMOLED a totally different beast?
Ehh it can.. But it doesn't have the Motos low power chip to handle the notifications and pulse the screen, so any 3rd party app you install to do it, will kill your battery.

Agreed, I do like the s4 more than I figured I would tho, signal reception is just as good as the razr hd it replaced, (was worried as every sammy I had before had horrible reception), Battery life really isnt bad and I regularly get 24 hrs with normal use, the screen is absolutely beautiful, performance is great, and the camera just blows the razr hd's away. I miss being unlocked sometimes, but I thought id be returning this and ended up keeping it.
I live in a rear apartment. Reception I believe will always btw horrible bit o believe that build can decrease reception, rendering awful reception non-existent, so I think that may be my number one priority. I have two kids and I love the S3 camera... maybe I'll get the S4 and put a GE Rom on.

I think the hardware is solid... so any software lumped on to pilot it will do well. I tend to like the uncluttered look and feel of the stock camera. I am going by today to check out the s4 again. Can't say that I love to many things aside from family, my girl, and my corvette..... Today I got my Zu and I can add it to the list. This phablet is phenomenal. There really isn't a better word to describe it. I've had all the best phones ever made and this one puts all of them to shame. Sure the camera and speaker aren't anything special but this screen and smooth performance helps you forgive that very quickly. It's indeed amazing :good:
Yeah, I usually take my Nexus 4 to work with me, since I'm too busy to actually use my phone at work and so it would be pointless to carry around the XZU, so I frequently have 3-4 day stretches in which I don't use the XZU. Whenever I switch back for school or off days, it's kind of like turning it on for the first time again. The change is so nice.

I'll also be picking up a new VAIO Flip 13" model to replace my old Sony Tablet S. Between that and the Z Ultra, my mobile experience should be amazing!

After using it for 3 days, i can say that i have my money well spent.
Pros:
1. Dat screeeeeenn..
2. Wifi range is superb, can go to second floor (where the wifi is on the first) whereas with my previous devices they can't detect it.
3. With its large body, surprising that it still fits into my chest pocket
4. Battery Life is good, even though not as strong as my previous razr maxx but that is expected
5. Can't wait to take a break with KitKat!
Cons:
1. Camera overprocessing.
2. No easy root method for now.. but i have migrated from Titanium Backup into Helium app so no biggie.. Only no mod for me now
O yeah i have some tips for battery life:
1. Don't install google aosp camera with gallery. It will take media scanning twice and preventing Stamina Mode to work
2. Turn off Google+ auto backup, or only allow it to upload while charging
3. Better to full drain the phone once and then charge it while it's off. But after that, please trickle charge it before it reach 50%
4. Don't use the phone while charging. Better to disconnect and then continue after you're done.

It's not as bad as you think but it is better to not do so. Because if you use it while charging, the high temperature will degrade battery faster. So unless you know that your usage is low and not heavy, better to disconnect it and charge again after the device is cool again.

Actually, there is a simple fix to improve and increase speaker volume.
I use the XZ1 Volume boost, it works wonders.
- Increased internal - external speaker
- Increased headphone volume
- Increased volume call speaker

been comparing it with the Nexus 4 and the Xperia SP since they are the only phones I like in my budget. I'd like to know your opinion. I am impressed by the hardware of the phone, but I'd like to know a few things before I make the purchase.
Firstly, will I have issues with the network or any other feature using the AT&T unlocked version in India?
Also, is the notification LED on the E970 RGB?

LED is red only
...and it's an awesome phone with lots of life left with the right XDA support.

The development for the device will not stop until the Nexus 4 development stops, huh? Because they are practically the same phone.. correct me if I am wrong.

For the most part you are correct

One last question, does the Optimus G Pro have a good development support here in XDA?

Please for your own good, get the Nexus 4. Either that or live in the Nexus 4's shadow. If i could go back, I'd get the N4, you get pure and stable roms from Google and of course, you get updates faster
At this point in time, considering what the LGOG brings to the table vs the Nexus 4, I wouldn't buy a Nexus 4 but that's just me personally. Can't tolerate devices without expandable storage myself, so the microSD card slot on the LGOG just makes it a must-buy vs the Nexus 4, not to mention the addition of actual LTE support without jumping through hoops to get it working.
And considering even the Nexus 4 is now in a holding pattern of sorts to get the factory KitKat image, being a "Nexus device" isn't helping it be any better than the LGOG at all.

I don't get this idea of shadowing. If such way of thinking is correct, then every device is in nexus's shadow. I think the goal is to have a good working phone at the end of the day. This phone has a good variety of roms to help you get there: official supports of CM, Pacman, slim, all the unofficials and the very good stock rom. Also this uses sd card, nexus doesn't

Yep, made up 3 months ago. You should get rid of your OG if you got one so you don't have to be in the shadow
Dolby Audio really?
The sound on E970 SUCKS! I use a headphone amplifier but even with that the sound is crap. Dolby Audio really? I miss having a removable battery. Lastly, when the phone gets hot, there is a built in cap that limits the brightness of the screen. (Live in SoCal High Desert with summer temps of 110 F)
The quad core is fast and can handle quite a bit at one time. I listen to music while playing games, reading emails, cruzin' the Play Store and the internet all at the same time. Haven't had any crashes yet. There is plenty of storage internal storage. I have a lot of downloaded music and a few large games and have yet to roll over to the 16 GB external card.
Biggest disappointment is definitely the sound!!!!!!
Loving my LGOG. The sound is a bit weak. But everything else is great. I would recommend getting a best buy type warranty or a case for your phone. Gorilla glass is slippery like wet snot. I've had the back glass beak twice due to the phone sliding away and falling.
I'd buy it again.

Coming from an HTC device before this one, the sound is not that great but it works for me. Also the camera is not a big deal. Basically the same as the nexus 4.
I'm have been using houstonn kitkat for over a week and battery life is greater than stock and performance is awesome!

I had a HTC too, hated s-on and the whole s-off process. Did you have to use controlbear and do the wire trick ?

i had HTC One VX with s-off practically since day one. there are very few custom roms for that model and only one aosp like which was cm10 but very early build. s-off is very easy, no need to do wire trick but i have done it to other older models like Vivid and Amaze.
i really missed stock android for months until i got my lg e970
Sorry, but would someone explain in brief what S-Off and S-On mean?
Also, I'm considering getting the Optimus G Pro instead because I find the looks more appealing and few extra pros over the E970. But the development there seems more or less stalled. Gotta risk it, I guess.

I'll try, others feel free to add upon this. Different manufacturers use different mechanism to secure their devices. With htc its "security-on", it restrict what hboot you may run on your devices. I had an htc evo v/ htc evo 3d, with security-on I could only run hboot 1.07.07.07 whatever which only allowed stock based ics roms. After achieving s-off I was able to put a different hboot on my phone , i had jbear 1.47.47.47 i think.. which in terms allowed me to run a lot more roms. S-on also restrict what you may flash. For example firmware and radios, here we call it modem? Don't know the difference, can't be flashed with s-on.
Just wondering is it worth the extra dough to get the edge plus or just get the edge? In the market for a new phone and I am stuck on the two and the nexus 6 is catching my eye as I need to tether and I do have foxfi but more and more phones are not working on it. Please give me some info to help me choose. I was a die hard HTC fan but the past few phones has left a kinda sour taste in my mouth and need something new.

Its definitely worth the extra money for the plus. The only thing is if you are wondering if you can root it, the phone bricks itself and says you have rooted it. I think it forces you to do a factory reset to use the phone again. If you aren't a person who roots their devices, or you can live without rooting it, this is the perfect phone for you. I absolutely love this phone except for the whole root situation...

I got the plus in the end. I have rooted my phone in the past but as long as foxfi works I have no need for root. I am enjoying this phone more than I thought I would

I was a rooter all the way but then realized I did it mostly to squeeze out every drop off performance. Edge+ is so fast that I don't miss rooting. And we can disable apps on this phone which does allow for even more performance. Octa-core rocks!

Yeah this phone blows my old M7 away in performance and battery life. Plus the fast charge is unreal

What did you expect? It's been over 3 years since the M7 came out. But yeah I have the Edge Plus and it rocks.
Is foxfi working?

Yes
FoxiFi works great for me. Download speeds between 12 to 25 Mbps.

Had the edge and battery wasn't going well and ram was getting too full. Went to the edge+

I need it, more performance is needed for me, it doesn't transition as smoothly as i thought it would, i still see stutters here and there, though the ram management is somewhat better than my previous phone, though it's still disappointing that even with 4gb of ram it doesn't hold apps in the background as well as the htc m9, battery life is somewhat a letdown as it's near the same or worse than my previous phone, though it could just be my phone probably has a defective battery. Just glad this thing has fast charge or else i would've thrown it away with frustration or returned it.
