first get it to some hardware maintainance..
may be you have to change the usb port..
and hey, dont worry..
its a minor case for maintainers.:good:

you put water in the mhl port? seriously. and then after damaging it you used water again to try and repair it. WOW you are lucky you didnt get electrocuted. best way to dry it is to put it in a bag of rice for a good day or two. the rice should absorb the few drops of water but the damage is already done. you probably have a short circuit somewhere in the phone preventing it from communicating with the pc. does hdmi out work?

Where did you drop water? If it is within the usb port, its possible the water could have caused a short or even could have caused some corrosion. That would mean your only option would to get it fixed at some cellphone repair place. Unless your carrier replaces water damage.
yes was just going to modify it well I have no warranty so only thing is to take it to some mobile repair shop

the thing that bothers me that it still charges but after removing from charger or PC it is still charging for a few seconds after it stops you think the port is damaged? or something i can do at home as i saw the video of s2 unboxing didn't look pretty hard
There could be some dirt or slight corrosion at the port. Try gently using a soft dry toothbrush across the port. Also if you have one, try using a different USB cable.
A solution which worked for me
http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-skyrocket/179446-usb-device-not-recognized.html
This 2nd solution of pushing the tongue of the usb port up worked for me like a charm. I had no water damage and out of the blue it stopped working for me. I literally gave up when i tried this. Now everything is fine. Just give it a try :good:

It's definitely the port.
Take your phone battery out.
Get some methylated spirits. If you can't get that, get some rubbing alcohol. Don't use anything else.
Take your phone battery out.
Get a sewing needle or pin, or safety pin. Use that to scrape out any lint and run it along the length of each of the 5 usb contacts (very very delicately). Make a tiny ball of tissue paper (less then a millimetre in diameter) and soak it lightly with methylated spirits or rubbing alcohol and push it around inside the port. it must be small enough not to bend or damage the protruding usb pins and plastic support.
Did you take your phone battery out? OK put it back in and plug in the USB and see what happens. Make sure you are using you AC charger for this. Sometimes it won't charge off a low current USB connection, if the battery is that discharged.
I had your exact symptoms and this solution fixed the problem permanently for me.

My phone had the exact same problem, wish I had the explanation you just got. I had to improvise as mine went weird 3 days after release! But do what the replier said, it will fix it permanently, and don't be afraid, better doing it yourself than having to flash a stock ROM in order to remove CWM which I assume you have, and sending it back. Don't be a wuss!
Chris.
hi, well, my problem is, when i finish charging the battery, after a while, the icone start flashing ( appear and dissapear) with fast drain .............. intil i think 30% it stops flashing and drains normaly after that?!! is the usb port the reason??? or the battert it self ?? thenks a lottttttttttttttttt for helping
Oh oh... I have a small question... Look at the USB port.. Are these teeth touching the upper or lower surface of the port?
Edit: I remember your post now, several days ago... I said to you, and I advised you that it is a hardware problem... But you didn't care for what I said^^...

I understand what you mean. The problem is, that the teeth of the USB port are touching the upper our lower walls of the USB port, thus making a voltage mass. That's why it is showing you charging/discharging.. But be careful, when the teeth touch the walls of the USB port, an electrical circuit is being created, but it is not a good one...
If you are not under warranty, you can order a USB port over Ebay and change it manually with the help of this trial it's usually cheap and easy to replace..

I think that the battery measuring system turns to low usage when the battery goes down to this low level... That's why the battery icon would stop flashing. Try flashing a GB ROM, as the battery measuring system is not as advanced as on ics or jb...

so i sold mine and got a new one =D
hi again, well, i looked at a video in youtube , and wht i did, is pulling up a litte bit the port's teeth it self, and its gone the ' charging ' message! it was so low, tht it touches the down side of the port i think!.... but i think tht changing the whole port is a need...
hope it will not come againnnnnnnnn.. Inchallah
My i9300 all of a sudden stops charging.
I disassembled it and the next day decided to plug it in again. It charged up until 48%, when i plugged it out for use again.
Now, one day later it again won't charge... weird?
I'm trying to buy a usb port connector and want to replace it as i think the problem lies there, but how do i do this?
All the youtube video's are only replacing the simple stuff.
I have tried using another battery + batterycharger, this is not the problem. The phone still doesn't charge. I really suspect there is oxidation inside the USB connector.
Hope there's anybody who can help with replacing it.
should be the cable problem? many cases on this!
If you don't know any better about hardware, why don't you just buy an additional battery and battery charger... through could be little bit inconvenient

Thanks but this isn't the case with me. I really suspect there is oxidation inside the USB connector. So could anyone help with how to replace this? I live in the Netherlands.
You said you dissembled it, you have enough knowledge about it?
I don't have much myself too but I tried my hands on my older devices in many cases, so I can only suggest you that the charging point which is a usb port would be connected to your pcb which needs to be disconnected with the help of an soldering iron and then you can replace it with a new one. However do it only if you have subsequent knowledge.
Also before trying anything try more chargers, I came to know that none of the generic and few original ones couldn't charge mine too. Check for their voltage.

alright, thanks for the reply. But my device is flashed around 1000 times and it looks like i opened beercans with it. So this would not create a healthy warranty argument i guess. This is why i'm trying to do it myself.
Now all of a sudden it charges again, when i left it at the charger... so definately no charger problem. maybe oxidation/waterdamage from raindrops?

You have already flashed your device 1000's of time, soo i'd recommend you to flash it back to stock and try triangle away application
It did work for me
Soo .. if you manage too get system status back too normal, you can easily claim your warrenty
Put it in a bag of rice for a day so any water kind of damage is gone.

Our micro usb sockets have 7 pins. Most have 5 unless there's hdmi. I'm guessing 1 of the 7 are jacked up. I'd be careful, one of your cords could be the culprit. It might jack up a different device if you use it.
I'm thinking the other might when I got the girl bartender to charge my phone behind the counter she probably tried to stick the charger in upside down and fudged up my port ... Sucks but its an easy fix
