[Q] Wire Trick But With Windows? - HTC EVO 3D

I want to do the wire trick for my cdma evo 3d with Hboot 1.58 S-On .. Problem is I have a windows computer and the wire trick is only for Linux but I can't make those modifications to my computer to get Linux. Is there any other way to get S-Off so I can get jb roms?

You can burn an ubuntu (linux) live cd. It will boot ubuntu and run the program without changing your pc's OS. There is also an option to run the program in windows but it OS not recommend. Several who has done the windows way ended up bricked while none bricked with ubuntu.

Anyone think we will ever be able to natively run ubuntu as in basically use our phone as a computer with mhl working or is the only way to run it through emulation

Not quite sure how this fits into Themes and Apps but....
There's a KDE tablet coming out...could be the base for what you're talking about. And the attrix laptop dock basically does what you're talking about. So a combination of the two ideas....who knows.

if the evo has it, it could probably run. There would probably be no data though

Had my Evo for 2 Hours...bricked

Ugh. So I rooted it then tried to run lazypanda. Got to the part where it said phone screen will be black for 30 seconds. My computer started installing a driver and it didn't install correctly. I knew I was screwed right away.
I removed all HTC traces and installed all the correct drivers.
Any idea? Or is unbricker my only option?
Good thing I still have my nexus.

Check out the unbrick tool for lazy panda. I "bricked" mine and was able to recover using it. After you unbrick it you can run lazy panda and get s-off no problem.

This is the link to unbricking your phone:

P.S. You can not use a virtual box you actually have to download ubuntu

Yes you definitely have to use a full fledged Linux OS, VM will not be good. You could try a livecd but I would be a bit scared of doing that myself. I have Ubuntu installed in a different partition on my main HDD but if you don't want to do that there's an easy solution:
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/windows-installer
That will download an .exe that you run and it will install Ubuntu in a file on your Windows PC. When you reboot it will let you choose between Windows 7 and Ubuntu. It will take 2 mins of installation at most. Read on if you're interested in how exactly it works.
It creates a file within Windows of a predetermined size (this will be the 'hard drive' space for Ubuntu and all the data you put in it, so make it plentiful at least 10 gigs). When you reboot your PC and choose Ubuntu, it's technically opening up your NTFS Windows folder and considering the file it made earlier as a hard drive. Now this IS different than a VM because your computer is completely running Ubuntu and all the USB drives and ports are connected to it. The reason you shouldn't use a VM is because usually when a usb device gets disconnected under a VM things go haywire and that's not something you want when doing very risky things to your phone. Also the only difference between this installation and a regular Ubuntu installation (actually partitioning your HDD/SSD) is the hard drive performance. Windows uses NTFS and Linux doesn't bode well with that. If you like Ubuntu or are going to have to use it again in the future for whatever reason, I recommend actually installing it on your HDD, use ext4 partition for it if you install it.

The un-bricking tool is your only option, unless you want to go to sprint and get a new phone. I you don't already use ubuntu you will find that this makes the process extremely simple and it's not hard at all to do this. Here is a link for the un-bricking tool:
http://unlimited.io/lazypanda-s-off-public-beta/evo-4g-lte-unbricker/
I wasn't worried about using Ubuntu or anything. Not a noob by any means. I just have crappy internet and didn't want to download a 5gb installation of Ubuntu.
Well anyways. I started the download last night. Woke up it was finished. Ran the unbrick tool.
Got it fixed.
Now my next question, should I try the s-off again? Lol.
Sent from my Sprint Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium app
It worked the second time around
After bricking and unbricking mine, I let it charge to 100% and ran S-OFF again, went flawlessly (make sure to run as admin) in Windows
Ditto.
Reran lazy panda and no issues after fixing brick.

I bricked my phone and took it back to sprint repair they said that they would have to give me another phone cause SPRINT told all the stores that they couldnt open the phone yet cause it was so new.. the Rep talked to his Manager and they gave me A New evo LTE without the $36 replacement fee. i was so HAPPY.. rooted and s-off as soon as i got it...

Rooting with windows 8 comp=catastrophic

Uhm....
This has to be the most agrivating phone to root in my years of rooting..
Windows 8 will not reconize htc drivers! Unsupported on this operating system it says..
Grrrrrrr i hate windows 8 and how incompatible it is with everything..
Cant root... Hmmmm... Giving this phone up for the iphone 5, im done!
Not only that the process this takes to root is very complex! Grrrrrrr....

adb says it's out of date and "killing...". But still proceeds forward. Is that normal for Windows 8. I downloaded all the necessary files and they're all up to date, as far as I know.
So instal htc sync? Why isnt that in the instructions for rooting? Im trying to root it still... Fail...
Already have it installed and its not finding the dna..
Ugh.. Is there a dumbed down version of this rooting method?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
I rooted on windows 8 with minimal trouble, on an Archos 9 with I think a single core 1ghz cpu, and 1 gig of DDR ram. I also rooted my transformer prime using the same tablet. Albeit using the paid pro version, I would not try it on the free previews.
Good luck with the iPhone 5 if you choose to walk away from the fastest phone since sliced bread. $h!+ is junk! Lol its exactly the same as iPhone4s without the cool new shape only slightly bigger and a tad faster. But same restricted, lame a$$, never changing, way too out of date to be relivant IOS.

If you read .... This is what you need to do install HTC sync only for the drivers .. before you try anything with your DNA delete HTC sync , but font touch the drivers ... This phone isn't that hard if people would learn to read the entire directions before starting .... :banghead: Maybe you needing a dumbed down method is telling you something huh ... Not to be rude but these REAL phones are maybe too complicated . Please don't root your phone, because all your going to do is screw it up and take it back on someone else's dime . Get your ibore 5 ... And hey bud , are you rooting or unlocking the bootloader? Because one has to be done before the other ...

Unlocking the bootloaders you stuck up xda tards.. And i was reading, so don't judge. Just ran into the driver issue it states "when you connect your phone into your computer and you have usb debugging on, the drivers should automatically instal"
Well they didnt, so im having issues with adb recognizing the dna.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
the process on a win8 machine can be taxing, if you let it.
downloading adb setup didn't work for me either.
if you plug your phone in to pc, it will install drivers and sync. (you might need to change usb port if not cooperating)
I also had the adb out of date and killing issue, it didn't prevent me from unlocking bootloader but, it did cause a problem during root process. specifically when trying to load SU. because adb kept killing itself, SU wouldn't get installed.
I solved that issue by removing htc sync, and leaving the drivers installed.
restart adb, use task manager and end adb.exe process. if it continues, look in task manager again for anything like android tools, droid explorer etc;
gl
This phone has its flaws too... Its choppy, some major apps not yet supported, force closing on Facebook, Wish android would get its stuff together too! Tons of addware all over there apps, and 30% or more of the android marketplace is filled with fake or virus apps

In what way is this even remotely helpful?
There are a lot of people that didn't find it a simple process. There was trial and error and learning involved.

[Q] PC no longer recognizes rooted Amaze 4G

I rooted and unlocked the bootloader and am running the wonderful CM 10.1. A week ago all was well, but now I can't get my PC (one running 8 and one running win 7) to recognize the phone or its SD card. Last night I installed the new 4.00 HTC Drivers which are compatible with Win 8 but with no success. I loaded HTC Sync and it can't find the phone either. It does not show up in Windows Explorer as it did a week ago. I've tried different cables and different USB ports. Very curious.
Any thoughts out there from all you nice folks who are a lot smarter than this old duck?
Thanks!

Need help with bootloader unlock, stuck "waiting for device"

I've been googling toys for days, all my drivers are up to date as far as I'm aware, the phone connects perfectly when booted normally if I just want to sync something, but when I'm in fastboot, I get to the get_identifier_token command and it just says waiting for device indefinitely.
Oh, apparently Windows doesn't recognize it in fastboot

Still no luck, probably gonna give up soon, the universe wants me to stay stock. Might as well have an iPhone .__.

So what's the problem?
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
Im having the same exact issue with my phone, and Im running windows 7.
Ive tried using both usb 2.0, and 3.0 ports, tried suing front, and back ports, USB debuggind is enabled, and I've tried with fastboot both enabled, and disabled.
I've tried removing ALL my android related drivers and reinstalling the HTC ones with no success.
Yet whenever I disconnect my phone while it;s in bootloader, it get a popup on my PC for a failed driver installing for a "HTC MTP DEVICE".
Had the same problem, Had to do THIS fix, and no problems anymore
