[Q] Forcing/Enable WCDMA 900 on THL W8S - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I have a huge problem. I've bought a THL W8S cell phone. The problem is, this cell doesn't support WCDMA 900 band. Only 850 and 2100. The phone operator (Wind) in my zone only support WCDMA900, so if I switch it in 3G the phone lost signal. If I keep it in 2G, it works fine but data navigation is slow.
I need to know if there's any way to force THL W8S to receive WCDMA900, or I will be forced to resend cell to China.

I see a lot of websites, ThL W8S support WCDMA 850/2100MHZ, does not support WCDMA 900 MHZ, you may want to return to your mobile phone.

And there's no way to force it to use WCDMA900? A kernel, a trick, something?

Using North American X10 in Portugal

Hi guys, I'm traveling to the S.Miguel, Azores (Portugal) this weekend and will be bringing both my captivate and x10. I'm assuming that for voice they both should work (minus the missing 900mhz band), but can I get data? I usually would take an old v600 quad band phone which does a great job for calls on the vodafone network, but I would like to use my smartphones so that I can use my voip lines to speak to friends/family here without long distance charges.
Will I be able to use data with these phones?
Btw is the APN for vodafone internet.vodafone.pt?
Thanks!
Podem responder em português se for mais fácil.
i'm from Portugal
you can use xperia or other phone, you can use on 2g or 3g mode.. data package is available too in vodafone
i sugest you buy a vodafone Sim card here, it's a lot more cheaper too navigate instead of using roaming (taxes are very high)
vodafone sim cards should be available in the airport... search somewhere like in those place that sell magazines... it's usual in here to find sim cards with a cost of 5 euro

I hope you're right about the 2G and 3G working, but I don't know how the coverage will be on the island without 900mhz band. North American models (X10a) have 850mhz instead of 900, the other frequencies I think are the same.
As for vodaphone SIM cards, I did that 3 or 4 times already with older phones Not a chance I'll be paying $300+ to my local provider because of roaming
Just be sure the handsets are unlocked and you will be fine.
Portugal is 2G (GSM ) 900 1800 3G 2100
Xperia x10a 2G (GSM ) 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 / 800
You will get 2g and 3g there no issues what so ever.
Vodafone is an excellent option anywhere in the EU any q's just pm me I am eurotrash so I am able to assist

Well that pretty much answers my main question. Thank you! Just need to google the APN settings when I get there
Actually you do not need to. The Vodafone sim will add them for you. Well thats has been my case using Vodafone.DE/NL/GR

Xperia sk17a mini pro USA companies coverave for 3G

Hey guys,
For those living in the US... do you happen to know what companies are compatible with our 3G bandwidth frequencies ?
I bought a T-Mobile SIM Card, it's working fine but I can't get 3G (UMTS) , just 2G (GSM) since T-Mobile uses 1700 and 2100 Mhz for his High Speed Data connections... and this mobile (both, sk17a and sk17i) doesn't support 1700mhz, but 850, 1900 and 2100.
I know AT&T uses 850&2100Mhz for 3G, but I think this company banned internet calls through 3G, which sucks.
So... is there any other company compatible with our mobile with 3G support?
Thanks
Did you order the phone outside of the US?
No, I ordered it on amazon and is the American model
Sent from my SK17a using XDA App
I got mine on Amazon and it's a SK17i.
I have T-mobile, but I have a problem with losing network randomly every now and then whatever I do.
edit:Apparently it was a SK17a. Could've sworn it said SK17i on the order page... Odd. Oh well.
I have network mode on manual and set to GSM only, but I still lose signal sometimes...
Try setting 'network mode' to manual, and choosing 3G or 2G only. It seems to help.

No It won't, after look at what base-bands it is capable of using it can use GSM 900 mhz but not wcdma 900 mhz. Even though they are on the same frequency they after different radio technologies.
I know the difference between wcdma and gsm. My problem is that many Sellers writes that p770 support wcdma 900 mhz. So if any of you have this phone and can confirm that?

someone who has the phone can confirm??
I asked "etotalk" and this is their response:
answer:
Hi, regarding Lenovo P770 smartphone.
In the page of "etotalk" in the features it says "WCDMA 900/2100MHz" but the official website of "lenovo" puts WCDMA 2100Mhz. What is the correct figure?
responce:
Yes, lenovo shows is 2100mhz, but based on our customers' feedback, it should support 900 as well
Maybe my English is not clear because I use a translator but my response does not seem accurate

Hello,
I have the p770 for one month. I am living in Bulgaria and I am using Vivacom GSM operator. Its 3G network is operating at 900 MHz. The phone is working fine with 3G enabled. In settings -> about phone it is said that the mobile network type is HSPA. I hope this helps.
Bkulov seems to be correct, i am living in Africa & using a cellular operator which runs on the 900mhz band. I get 3g and Hspa with the Lenovo p770. I ran a test with the speedtest.net app & i got 2046 kbps DL & 1457 kbps UL. I thought there could be a possiblity of the phone running on EDGE/2G but i dont think so myself because obviously the phone doesnt state it & they dont state EDGE data for the SIM 1 on the p770.
My over all view about this is that if etotalk.com mentioned that their customers did confirm 900mhz 3G band, then i do not see why it wouldnt be. If anybody with backround knowledge could give us some feedback it will be much appreciated ! Peace

UMTS-900 on Lenovo IdeaPhone P770
Hello!
I leave in Russian Federation in Moscow region, but 100km souther Moscow. In our region 3G connectivity only available in WCDMA-GSM-900, but this option is not available in EngeneerMode in BandMode section, only WCDMA-INT-2000.
Why UMTS-900 don't work on this phone if other smartphones on MTK6577 platform supports this mode? Is there any way to enable this mode or it has hardware locked chip?

[Q] Help getting 3G working on my 64 GB X+ AT&T

Hello all,
I have just made a rookie mistake, and bought an unlocked phone to use on the AT&T network. After putting my Sim card in, i noticed that I only had 2G (Edge)... So I did some research, and quickly found out that AT&T's LTE network is on 700 and 1700 bands... And my new phone only works with
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
Well... After doing some more research... I found out that AT&T 3G is on 850 and 1900... So shouldn't I be able to at least get 3G to function? I have tried a couple different APN settings... But so far I either only get edge... Or it says the mobile network failed to turn on due to an APN setting error...
Please help! This phone is pretty much useless without the internet for me... I can deal with 3G...but edge is unusable...
Thanks ahead of time
Hello MrBoard,
Have you tried to configure your APN settings by the homepage of your provider? They often offer such services. Maybe it can help you solve your problem.
But I have a similar problem, I although can't get 3G, every other connection is working, just 3G.
Does anyone knows a solution?

I entered the apn directly off the At&t website... We'll see if it works... I'm going to try switching the sim card out...hopefully I can use SOMETHING other than edge!

Having problems getting 3G/4G to work on a LG L70 MetroPCS

Hello,
Last month my dad gave me as a gift a LG L70 bought from the US. I live in Romania and It was locked on MetroPCS, but I went to a local shop here in Romania and managed to unlock it. It works very nice and smooth, with one single problem: I can't manage to get the 3G/4G network to work on it. Everytime I open up the mobile data connection it remain stuck on 2G (showing E). Any ideas how I can get this to work?
The frequencies for the 3G network here in Romania, for my carrier are: 2100 and 900, but 900 is also used for the 2G network. The phone supports 900 Mhz and also the frequency for 4G, but both the 3G and the 4G won't work.
Many thanks!
