I am on .510 firmware Vietnamese, rooted via VROOT.
Not that it cost me money to root, so there's no such thing as a waste maybe, but all I have done so far is Titanium backup and Greenify.
This post is a 3-part question.
A) How to remove, and which bloatwares to remove.
Performance is not an issue with SD 800, but anything to help battery life is a welcome. My understanding of system and resources, and ability to understand which resources are (un)necessary stops me taking adventures. But I suspect that some unnecessary apps are using my resources, therefore battery.
Greenify, I hate to report, does not help with battery life at all. If anything, performance battery wise worsens.
So, is removing some apps a recommendation? Is removing different to disabling in setting>apps>force stop/disable?
I do not use Google+ or Hangouts, and a few others. Currently disabled only. IS there a benefit in uninstalling these apps? If yes, how?
B) Chrome browser
I love this phone. Nothing bad to say about it except maybe this... Since there is a tablet element to this phone, I would like to see it use tablet mode when surfing with chrome. The differences between tablet mode and phone mode are subtle, but I still prefer the tablet mode, and would like to try it. Whether it is a good move or not would only be known after trying it. Does anyone know how to modify it so that it works in tablet mode?
C) WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU RECOMMEND that I install, modify or remove?
Thanks in advance
B) I use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2072081 to accomplish what you want, if it will work on ZU, i dont know... The device will be released on the 23rd in sweden, then I'll know
Use Titanium to delete/freeze the apps you don't want to use. It'll mark apps in red if they're not safe to remove/freeze.
with root i can use the full pie controls app now - also increased the dpi from 320 to 350, also now able to change the cpu governor and scheduler, now just waiting for some nice rom and tweaked kernels to make it worth while to unlock the bootloader

Thanks for reply. Is freezing with Titanium any different to 'disable' in settings>apps?

Does it actually work? And if it does, does it save a significant amount of battery?
Ive heard it works and I've heard it doesn't work I dont use it I get about 16 - 20 hours with moderate use using the freeze option in titanium backup pro this belongs in q&a btw
My bad on the Q&A part. But thanks for the help.

How, using the freeze option in Ti Backup to freeze an app, save your battery?
Some apps don't stop running when you back out of them some system apps run all the time but are not needed freeze them and they won't eat your battery all day long .......longer battery life!
Sorry for the noob question but how do you figuer out which app is running all the time even when its not showing up in the default task manager. I would love to use this feature to get more juice out of my battery.
System panel is an app you can get and see what apps are running in the background and if there not crucial to the system freeze them I would ask someone before freezing anything though cause you could really screw up your phone and have to odin back to stock which isn't that bad just a pain in the ass

Yea I think I will do this...Thanks.
Not to get off topic, but does anyone have a list or recommend common apps to freeze? I see it mentioned a lot and everyone says ask someone before freezing, but I never see examples of what is safe and what is not.

Freeze drm and samsung apps and media hub and then I freeze whatever apps I don't use cause some apps have core functionally if you freeze them you'll get f/c but I'll try to make a list of things I freeze and post it later

I'm curious about this as well. Is there a good rule of thumb abou what things are not going to cause problems to freeze?
Now, I freeze the basic stuff, like Allshare, etc. because I don't use them, but I'd like to dig deeper into what services can actually be frozen as well.

Check this out. It helped me.
Just got root and want to rid myself of bloatware, however, lots or random comments about how best to accomplish this. For many it seems to come down to gaining access to more space (favoring delete) vs ability to restore should there be an issue later (favoring freeze). Not sure where disable comes in between them.
Thoughts? Benefits of one over the other?
Lastly, if I install Hyperdrive does all the above become moot if it disappears?
Nothing?
If you have the knowledge and ability to fix your phone if things go sour then delete. If not, freeze.

The space you gain is pretty minimal actually, but if you are the type of person who has tons of apps then perhaps that little bit will matter. I have all my bloat frozen and still have plenty of space left on internal memory, but then again I'm not the type of person with hundreds of apps. I'm pretty sure if you just Odin the stock image back to your phone all the bloat will be back, so it's not really the end of the line deleting it. It's really just up to you as to what's more convenient.
Good points Craw...I have maybe 60-70 apps and I'm not a big collector beyond that...too much and I can't even remember what they all do. I think I'll freeze for now per your suggestion. I have Titanium backup Pro - is that the best tool for it?

I have over 400 apps, plenty of room left. Bloat ware is too small to be called bloat. Call them 'unused' ware. (Some of my 400 are probably in that group)

Yeah I've been using Titanium backup for years with no problems. It's the best. Here is a list I found of bloatware that's safe to freeze, so this should help start you off: http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-samsung-galaxy-s4/287988-verizon-bloatware.html
of course if i go with a custom ROM bloatware won't be ann issue, right?
is it correct that right now, the only recovery i can have with ME7 is safestrap? I tried CWM or Teamwin and got stuck on a "downloading - do not turn off traget" message, so I installed Safestrap over it and it appears to have gone fine
is it also true that I cannot install CM 10.1.X with safestrap, requiring me to go with something like Hyperdrive?

Their is a list of compatible roms around here someplace. Hyperdrive is one of them. I have been using Hyperdrive version 9.1 with safestrap and its been running flawless for me. I did get a low disk space warning once but clearing cache fixed it and Its not been back since

Greenify is another option if you don't want to freeze apps. Greenify can put the app in hibernation so its not running in the background, but unlike titanium you can still use the app. Just another option.
Delete apps that ur never going to use(system apps) freeze apps that ur going to use very rarely but u need it. Or just tweak ur build.prop for background processes
This device is assumed to have sufficient amount of RAM but if checked, there is only 400 MB available out of 1 GB, thanks yo the unnecessary bloatware. It would be lovely to get rid of the useless background services and bloatware in order to save battery, keeping the device cool, more RAM availability and better Tegra gaming performance. Just barely managed to play Tegra 4 intended Half Life 2 via gltools. So, back to the problem: how to get rid of the bloatware?

I use Titanium Backup to rid my HOX+ of the bloatware. But, you've got to be rooted to use Titanium Backup.

It's not that simple. You cannot remove the stock apps like "Car" and others just like that.

What is simple is taking the less than 30 seconds to use the SEARCH button and find the answer you were looking for: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102675
And if you look at the list, Titanium Backup is listed for removing bloatware. Wait another 3 weeks for someone to reply to you.

Easy there, mate. I already have tried but the system apps cannot be removed this way. It always says that there are no permissions to do that.
The above thread which you tagged is not an "answer' to my problem. But still, i very much acknowledge and appreciate your efforts.
Thanks!
Use root explorer and delete them from Tue system.
Hi there, I have an Xperia z1 on latest android kit kit rooted with xposed.
I have had a lot of lag and it's weird Because one second it's buttery smooth then suddenly crazy lag spike!! I think the best option would be to reset my phone, how should I do this as I want to preserve my root and would like to not loose all my xposed modules settings? Idm reinstalling apps and so on, just worried bout my settings in my modules, what do you think?
Cheers, Marcel

Make sure you install your root app (SuperSU or Superuser) and Xposed into /system/app if not already. For backing up apps and Settings, I prefer Titanium Backup. Reset in recovery.
If you want to know what's causing the lag, it's possible that a logcat could tell us what's going on. There's plenty of info on here and Google about how to run a logcat.

You'd have to run the logcat when it starts to lag and post it for others to take a look at. Copy and paste to pastebin.com and provide the link. It's not my forte, though I understand some of it. Hopefully someone else will come by and check it out.
Thing is the lag is sooo fast, like its just spikes?

Sounds like a badly coded app causing memory leaks which is utilizing too much RAM. After a reset, might be best to start adding back apps a few at a time to try and pinpoint the problem.
So, the step by step procedures for rooting and unrooting are great, but kinda leaves me hanging. I've heard it stressed that you have to tighten down on security... what about installing a custom..like cyanogen? Root is good but you can't stop there, right? What security to install? How can I avoid updates to OS beyond MM, or is it even possible? How to get max benefit from root, are there apps that most will Immediately install either because they are just that cool or because you need to to protect your phone? Thx!
Remove bloats (anything that you don't use)
Adaway (i can't STAND ads)
Xposed. I can't live without gravitybox, youtube ad blockers and YouTube offscreen playback.
Install nova launcher and double tap screen off from playstore to retain LG double tap features.
Thank you! Just the sort of advice I was hoping for. Are you knowledgeable of CyanogenMod. Like/don't like? Or, prefer an alternative? What security is best? Is there a listing somewhere to help me know what I can remove without causing my phone to start malfunctioning? I'd like to get rid of almost everything Google but then half the apps that use their keyboard, dictionary, etc stop working. I could see spending waaaay too much time searching each individual kibble before I delete. Would be decadent to find a list of em somewhere. Thanks again.
