Hi there, I have an Xperia z1 on latest android kit kit rooted with xposed.
I have had a lot of lag and it's weird Because one second it's buttery smooth then suddenly crazy lag spike!! I think the best option would be to reset my phone, how should I do this as I want to preserve my root and would like to not loose all my xposed modules settings? Idm reinstalling apps and so on, just worried bout my settings in my modules, what do you think?
Cheers, Marcel

Make sure you install your root app (SuperSU or Superuser) and Xposed into /system/app if not already. For backing up apps and Settings, I prefer Titanium Backup. Reset in recovery.
If you want to know what's causing the lag, it's possible that a logcat could tell us what's going on. There's plenty of info on here and Google about how to run a logcat.

You'd have to run the logcat when it starts to lag and post it for others to take a look at. Copy and paste to pastebin.com and provide the link. It's not my forte, though I understand some of it. Hopefully someone else will come by and check it out.
Thing is the lag is sooo fast, like its just spikes?

Sounds like a badly coded app causing memory leaks which is utilizing too much RAM. After a reset, might be best to start adding back apps a few at a time to try and pinpoint the problem.

So I've read the homescreen / re-draw lag posts & Ive tried everything suggested with no luck.
Problem is my GS3 lags constantly, bringing up messages, contacts, app drawer, everything. On the lockscreen the ripple lag is like 2-3 seconds, its getting extremely frustrating. Ive tried checking in OS monitor for a CPU lockup but theres nothing I can see that would be causing it.
Im running Omega V3, Apex launcher, on Vodafone Australia.
The other issue im having is my browser is f/c ALL the time, pretty much everytime I use it, it locks up for about 10 secs then returns to homescreen with the message saying Interent has stopped working.
Have reinstalled ROM twice, its runs super quick until I reinstall apps from Titanium Backup, then it just drags. Would there be a conflict with an app / data from my GS2 backup? Is there a way I can run a log to check? I have Android Assistant, and have checked the log, but im too much of a noob to know what to look for, although it seems to be running a lot of debug lines but I dont know if thats normal..
Thanks in advance.
The restoration of backup sounds like the cause. I recommend you restore the apps one at a time or in small batches. That way you can figure out which app is causing the problem.
my apex launcher is usually fast , but i've aswell that 3sec lag when i push homebutton.but that happens only sometimes.
ive also ticked that option to keep launcher in ram...
iam using omega rom and no bloatware or s voice

I will do another full wipe & install tonight and check.

Exactly what I was thinking. Do your fresh install, then restore the apps only and see how that works out.

Thanks man all sorted. I think an app, most likely APex, was trying to force a certain screen resolution..
I have also had problems with titanium restoration. Also solves the problem.

I am on .510 firmware Vietnamese, rooted via VROOT.
Not that it cost me money to root, so there's no such thing as a waste maybe, but all I have done so far is Titanium backup and Greenify.
This post is a 3-part question.
A) How to remove, and which bloatwares to remove.
Performance is not an issue with SD 800, but anything to help battery life is a welcome. My understanding of system and resources, and ability to understand which resources are (un)necessary stops me taking adventures. But I suspect that some unnecessary apps are using my resources, therefore battery.
Greenify, I hate to report, does not help with battery life at all. If anything, performance battery wise worsens.
So, is removing some apps a recommendation? Is removing different to disabling in setting>apps>force stop/disable?
I do not use Google+ or Hangouts, and a few others. Currently disabled only. IS there a benefit in uninstalling these apps? If yes, how?
B) Chrome browser
I love this phone. Nothing bad to say about it except maybe this... Since there is a tablet element to this phone, I would like to see it use tablet mode when surfing with chrome. The differences between tablet mode and phone mode are subtle, but I still prefer the tablet mode, and would like to try it. Whether it is a good move or not would only be known after trying it. Does anyone know how to modify it so that it works in tablet mode?
C) WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU RECOMMEND that I install, modify or remove?
Thanks in advance
B) I use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2072081 to accomplish what you want, if it will work on ZU, i dont know... The device will be released on the 23rd in sweden, then I'll know
Use Titanium to delete/freeze the apps you don't want to use. It'll mark apps in red if they're not safe to remove/freeze.
with root i can use the full pie controls app now - also increased the dpi from 320 to 350, also now able to change the cpu governor and scheduler, now just waiting for some nice rom and tweaked kernels to make it worth while to unlock the bootloader

Thanks for reply. Is freezing with Titanium any different to 'disable' in settings>apps?
Ever since the KK update, the apps on my D605 have been constantly crashing. Is that a known issue? If so, any known remedies short of rooting the thing and going for CM 11?
Thanks

I have the same problem!
Did you fixed it?
If so, how?
try to reset the phone (from the phone menus, or better by hard resetting the device). Note, u will lose all the data and settings !!!
though most probably u have too many apps running simultaneously in the background and u run out of memmory.

try to use a taskmanager app, to see what is running and how much memory it uses.
Also install greenify, even if u dont have root, and set it to kill the apps that are not necessary to you.
Things like this happen on all phones when there is no ram, bad optimization of the ROM or bad ram management (phone tried to kill the apps to keep core procceses up).
So, the step by step procedures for rooting and unrooting are great, but kinda leaves me hanging. I've heard it stressed that you have to tighten down on security... what about installing a custom..like cyanogen? Root is good but you can't stop there, right? What security to install? How can I avoid updates to OS beyond MM, or is it even possible? How to get max benefit from root, are there apps that most will Immediately install either because they are just that cool or because you need to to protect your phone? Thx!
Remove bloats (anything that you don't use)
Adaway (i can't STAND ads)
Xposed. I can't live without gravitybox, youtube ad blockers and YouTube offscreen playback.
Install nova launcher and double tap screen off from playstore to retain LG double tap features.
Thank you! Just the sort of advice I was hoping for. Are you knowledgeable of CyanogenMod. Like/don't like? Or, prefer an alternative? What security is best? Is there a listing somewhere to help me know what I can remove without causing my phone to start malfunctioning? I'd like to get rid of almost everything Google but then half the apps that use their keyboard, dictionary, etc stop working. I could see spending waaaay too much time searching each individual kibble before I delete. Would be decadent to find a list of em somewhere. Thanks again.

Make a nandroid backup of your current Setup with twrp. Then try out the couple of roms here in the development section. Read the threads. Enjoy your android freedom.

Hi there, I was wondering how to change the stock file manager. I don't mean just setting a different manager as default. Because even then, android uses the stock file manager for use within other apps (like wallpaper apps) for uploading files.
So how do I replace the file manager completely? I have the same question for the default gallery app too. It doesn't look the way I want and it's driving me nuts. I didn't simply uninstall the system apps because I fear it might break something.
The same question
Try disabling the stock one if it really bugs you.
Uploads can be a bit witchy...

You may be stuck with it. I've noticed similar issues on my 10+ running on Pie.
Pretty much ignored the slight inconvenience as I reckon it be more trouble than it's worth to fix.
May play will it a bit and try to optimize if I get really bored... more likely that I'll light up another cigar and chill though
You could try clearing the app data on the ones that default to the stock file Manager.
May have to go deeper into the system apks that manage file interlinks.
Clear system cache.
I can do all uploads but it's far from ideal... requiring 2 retries sometimes to get the right menu index. Sometimes it takes 2 light up attempts to get the cigar burning proper too
I should ignore it too cause I do not have enough technical knowledge

Pretty hard to crash a stock Android.

My stock 10+ does similar bs. You have more options than me if you're rooted. The trick is learning them; it can be a steep, time consuming learning curve.
The biggest reason I haven't rooted as well as voiding the extended warranty I have.
