I'm considering making the move from Sprint to T-Mobile. I have the HTC One and I really like it, but the phone is not the greatest at maintaining an LTE signal, similar to how the Evo LTE was. I've read on here that the One on Verizon also has this issue. Since T-Mo is GSM, is the One on T-Mobile the same compared to other LTE phones on T-Mobile, or does it also not maintain an LTE signal as well as its counterparts?

Yea I saw that there was an update a couple of months ago that addressed LTE issues. Is that the latest radio update that you're referring to?
I have the phone for over a month. I'm in a strong LTE area. I've had zero issues.

That's great to hear. I was concerned that the phone had issues holding it and would instead fall back to HSPA+ when the signal became weak.
Definitely not as good at maintaining lte as nexus 4 or s4, or even iPhone 5. The update changed the way lte is read, meaning, you will have more bars. But, as far as helping actual reception, it does not. You'll drop lte in all same areas.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
That might be market specific.
My TMO ONE is so much better with LTE after the .11 update.
It is as good if not better then my Note 2 and Nexus 4. I rotate between them but lately been finding my self liking the One a lot better..
Well the only thing I have to compare it to is my wife's S4. So far they seem about the same. And I guess if anything I can jump to something else in 6 months. What I don't like is when the signal is weak-ish, it drops the data connection. Just like my One on Sprint did. What's bothersome is that other phones don't seem to do this... Just the One.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Yes, the data signal is not as good as the S4 at all. It's definitely noticeable however the voice recognition works infinitely better than the S4 so the tradeoff is fine for me.
My coverage and signal are vastly better with latest radio I flashed...I went through 5 or 6 different radios until I found this one. Of course different radios may perform better for you, but the best for me is:

I hate to admit it as I was very much against switching, but I will be trying the new phone. 4 of my friends are also getting it and we geek out a good bit with our phones so I'm gonna test the waters. Luckily I know that if it's not exactly as I want it to be, I'll now have another 30 days to go back and get my beloved GSII.
No LTE in my city so why change?
No. Really don't see a reason to.

Just a heads up to everyone. AT&T Direct Corp stores will have the Skyrocket on sale for $149.99 starting Sunday. This price is good only at their stores, dealers will be the standard $249.99 pricing on a 2yr contract. Verified by 3 sources (2 prev managers I worked with) and 1 random local store.

Agreed. They used the verbiage, 'initial launch window' which leads me to believe they're doing this to lure people directly into their stores initially. Not sure how long but it definitely won't be the permanent price. If I can get any more solid info or source material, I'll update - but no promises.

The last rep I talked with said nationwide. The info I got from my local stores and contacts are all close by and not in a current or soon-to-be LTE market.

That's my issues with it.
1. I just got the sga2 and the size of it is perfect. When I hold it in my right hand I can very easily swipe down the notifications or if I am typing with it is my ritgh hand and using my thumb I can do it easily and fairly accurately. With a bigger screen I don't know it will fit as nicely, in fact I am pretty sure it wont. I have the bionic and it drives me crazy because it so big and the thunderbolt is the same way.
2. Rom development learning curve. When the lye came out for Verizon there was a tremendous amount of issues ans bugs with data switching from 4g to 3g and half the time you were left without any data. It will not be as easy for the devs to make Roms or even port them because for some it will be a new concept. Right now we have a few great roms to choose from. When the sga2 is out it will be a while until there is a any Roms. If anything I will wait until the last couple of days of my return period which is about 22 days from now, to see the progress of development, before I think of switching. Like I said the screen size is an issue for me. If it doesn't fit as nice as this phone then I definitely wont switch.
3. Battery life- even though the skyrkt has a bigger battery the battery life will be significantly less than what we got. All lte devices have shirty battery life, bionic, thunderbolt etc. I know this because I own them and as you can see which phone I favor because I am writing this post frlm it. The sga2 is by far the best phone out there, tried them all. Any deviation from this phone could possibly make it no longer "the perfect phone". I have not tried the phone yet so at this point I am just assuming, or speculating.

Comparing Verizon's LTE phones to att lte phones is that both are different in terms the phones. To my understanding that Verizon's phones has 2 radios one for their cdma aka 3G network and the other for lte where Att will only have one except their lte is going to be more then likely a different band but since lte is gsm, should not need another radio. So trying to compare verizon's lte to 3g switch off is not going to be the same as att lte which from what I have been reading about will be running on 700 and 1700 mhz bands which is probably why att will not have as many problems as verizon since att currently uses for their Hspa *3G* and Hspa+ *4G as marketed* runs off 850 and 1900 mhz bands, so building an lte radio to run quad band should not be an issue and then running a quad band for 2G should not be an issue in the same radio where Verizon's 3G network as they call it is cdma and their lte network should be running off of 700 mhz and 1700 mhz as well as falls back to cdma. The issue I can see happening with att is the 3G/4G/LTE back to Edge aka 2G will cause dropped calls and slow data or no data, like it does from hspa/hspa+ back to Edge. My sgs2 has been proven otherwise but it still can happen because the handoff is not perfect.
I am not sure if battery life is going to take a serious hit as I do not have lte in my area at the moment with att but what would have been nice to test the skyrocket compared to the og sgs2 if both were running the same cpu, that would be the true test. A good test would be the T-mobile sgs2 versus the skyrocket, that would be a way to see if the battery life takes a hit since both phones are similar in specs.

I think skyrocket is running a Qualcomm SoC, not good choice compared to Exynos.
I very much wanted to love this phone. Having been an HTC user for the longest time, I begrudgingly switched to a Note 2 last year. Why "begrudgingly", you ask? I'm a bit superficial when it comes to my phones and I'm not a fan of the plastic bodies used by Samsung. The HTC One, as you know, has an amazing build quality and, when you hold the phone, you get a sense of the premium materials used in its construction. The screen clarity is tops and the speakers sound quite good. I love nearly everything about this phone but I just ordered a plastic-laden Galaxy S4, due to issues with LTE reception one the One. Upon purchase, I noticed right away that this phone shows 1-2 fewer bars of LTE signal, everywhere, when compared to my Note 2. I figured it was just the graphical representation of signal strength that was off but then I noticed that the One spent far more time on HSPA than the note 2. Using G Net Track, I observed RSSI readings ~20dBm lower than my Note 2. These observations were made over time, with the phone stationary on my desk. The signal strength indicator and the RSSI readings confirmed that the HTC One I purchased suffers from poor LTE reception. I'm quite irritated that HTC missed with this device; I was very much hoping they would hit a home run with the One.
Has anyone else noticed LTE reception problems with their phone?

I have One, Nexus 4, iPhone 5, they all have the exact signal level at any given location. Unless you're blocking the antenna causing attenuation.
Also, you should be monitoring RSRP and RSRQ. Not RSSI if you're on LTE. Get SignalCheck Pro and do some testing.
When I moved I stopped in Kansas City (one of T-Mobile's LTE markets) and I had no problems with LTE reception.

I'm a bit concerned as well about LTE signal strength. I'm on only a single signal bar 90% of the time. I've only seen up to 3 bars only once. My speeds seem okay though, I am hitting 30mb down with only the 1 signal bar. My main concern is battery drain due to the weak signal.
I get awesome HSPA signal though, full bars almost everywhere. I'm tempted to just turn LTE off as HSPA speed here is still awesome.
BTW, I am in the Phoenix/Tempe market.

I'm also in kansas City and my note 2 was picking far better lte I'd say than the One.
If when mine arrives here in Taipei it shows lower bars I will take it in personally to their HTC office here in Taipei and ***** about it. Will try same SIM card in different smartphones to show differences If needed but will need to test first.
I don't quite understand what standard is to be expected. Is anything less of 30mb down on a cell phone really that unacceptable? I suppose it's reasonable if you're using hotspot for a laptop, but are we just talking about apps downloading data?
It might be that HTC didn't do well with function over form with the One in terms of signal reception. But I guess this may be the sacrifice you'll have to make.
Have you guys run speed tests rather than judging by signal bars alone? I've found that although my One displays two bars at my gym for "4g", I get completely crap signal, and can barely send out a Google voice text.. I've yet to run a speed test to see what exactly I'm getting in terms of d/u speeds.

That was my experience, going from a Note 2 to the One. I returned the One and picked up an S4 - much better LTE service. I did a side by side evaluation of LTE performance on the One vs the S4. Using the Speedtest.net app, I was consistently pulling 13Mbps using the One. I placed my SIM card into the S4 and consistently pulled 23Mbps. I switched the SIM back to the One and couldn't break 14Mbps. Yes, I selected the same server on both phones. Sadly, the One appears to have LTE issues.
I will be just happy when LTE actually goes live in my city. My HSPA+ speeds are really good. I just did a speedtest and go 18Mbps on my One and 13Mbps on my S4.

Completely false. The phone factors in to the signal quality. If it weren't so, then the iPhone would have never had the problem of "you're holding it wrong".
To answer the OP's question. On sprint, both phones seemed to be on par when it came to Band 25 (1900 MHz) LTE Connectivity. The other bands are unknown for now, as 26 isn't deployed and 41 has yet to be enabled on the G2.
sorry, dont agree; if I recall, it was the antenna design/location on the ibone that was causing the issues...no such issue on the one max

Sorry but I disagree. I can put three different phones (you can pick them) on my kitchen table and using any decent signal strength app show they are receiving sometimes drastically different signal strength. The manufacturer writes the code that displays the signal strength and can put whatever they want to be identified by those "signal bars" in the status bar. But none of them are going to use it to show they are actually getting poor signal.

While I agree with a lot of ur other posts I disagree with you here. Me being a Motorola fanboy I can tell u hands down their signal in their phones usually always pulls better then every other pen out there. Anybody that's owned a Motorola phone will usually tell you their signal is always a tick better. Go Google that, mostly any tech site will tell you that also.
Ever heard of the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon? Go Google that and ull see the reception antenna in that phone was horrible. Beyond one of the worse phones of all time. Samsung phones r great in a lot of ways but their antennas have always been subpar.
Sent from my HTC6600LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
my comment was only in regards to the htc one on the sprint network; yep, moto phones tend to have the best radios, for some reason, and probably will pull a signal better on the same network compared to a Samsung phone, or an IBone.
But, put 3 htc one maxs on a table, side by side, on the same network, and the dbm's will all be very similar.
On a strong network, they will read close to the same, and on a lousy network, they will also read similar to each other...
People rave about Verizon's wonderful network, but for me, in the SW suburbs of Chicago, they sucked big time, and have for a long time.
People complain about how lousy Sprint's network is, but, I have had fantastic results with their network, on past HTC Evo's, Evo4g, and Evo 3d..
My current One max gets great signal quality, as does my families 2 htc ones...Is it the network, or the phones themselves?????
Anyways, we all agree to disagree, and just because your opinion may differ from mine, I am glad that we live in a world where we can disagree if we so choose...
I think most of us agree that the one max is an under rated, excellent phone, that doesn't get any where near the praise and exposure that it deserves...

I was responding to what you responded with. The response you provide above twice is not correct based on the OP question. He did not ask about the same phone in different locations or three of the same phones in the same location.
I truly do appreciate difference of opinion when it comes to things that are personal preference but not when the question being asked is about a technical fact.
I was at school waiting in the hallway for the professor to come. I complained about not being able to get a good signal. A guy across from me had a Samsung phone that was getting 4g while I was getting 3g.

Wasn't sure the best place to post this as I am quite sure that this effects s3, HTC DNA, HTC rezound and other "older" 4g phones. As many may know Verizon has acquired band 4 LTE as well as the concurrently running older band 13. The issue is that in the area I work they have abandoned band 13 and are expanding band 4. The issue is that our not so old older phones do not support band 4 thus leading to speeds of consistently .39 to .80 MBS download speeds which honestly isn't enough to do anything. My phone (which I've tried all different radios) is just one of a dozen that I know of that experience this in the area. 3 people that have an s4, two with a note 3, and one with a lg g2 do not experience this issue and have 15mbs down at any given point and time. This is colonial heights, va 23834. Just curious if anyone else has noticed this. And mods if this is in the wrong section please move this for me.

I thought there were several bands that LTE runs on? My N2 before I sold it had better data speeds then my N3. Imo Verizon is just jacked up all together...sorry to hear of your troubles. I would call and complain that if you are no longer going to provide a compatible lte band for my device then give me a new device. I bet you would be suprised how well persistence pays off.
Ha it would but I have a dealer line. Thus no contract and bought my phone outright. Have called and no one seems to understand what I am talking about. Just figured if more people call stating the same findings then we might get some progress. Oh and by the way out of all the phones I know of with the issue mine is the only one not stock.

I have gone back and forth a couple times now. I ran the RUU to go to 4.3 Android (Htc official side loaded RUU) and I live in the Los Angeles area. My signal is absolutely ridiculous. Updated radios, current version of HBOOT and other drivers, I hoped that I would pick up 4g LTE in my area because the sprint coverage map shows that my location has it available for the EvoLTE. Going back to my device I am having 2G Edge and the slowest 3G of my life!
Has this been happening to you guys as well?
I made sure to select LTE/CDMA for my antenna options but no change.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Personally, I'd call Sprint and complain. That being said, it's a kind of well known fact that the EVO LTE's don't always have the best reception. ie two people in the same location with Sprint service, one on the EVO LTE, the other with a different device. The other person gets 4g LTE and the EVO user doesn't.

I can tell you from experience that Sprint doesn't seem to care if your service is crappy. Your best bet is to go with a carrier with better coverage. I was with Sprint for 10+ years.
