[req] cm 10.2 + halo - Nexus 10 General

I really would like this. I think HALO is very useful for tablet users considering we hold our tablets by the sides with 2 hands very often. There are some ROMs out there for the more popular devices already so why not our Manta? I'm Hoping there's a dev out there who would take a shot at this
BTW I know about PAC ROM but honestly its got a little too much where the integration gets messy. I have huge respect for the devs but there's too much difficulty in actually pulling off a 3 way ROM without compromising too much.

Thanks, although it's just AOSP with a few cherry picks here and there. I prefer a CM base with HALO. Just hoping some devs would pick up this tablet

It is good to have LG's UI.

Hi, I think is good that we have LG's UI.
Because I have a Galaxy Nexus with a CM10 and there is nothing else. All the ROMs look exactly the same. With LG we will get mix of LG and CM or Aosp and that will look better.
What you guys think?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I agree. I'm not to fond of all the Roms and how they are all the same. They all look the same and to me that's boring. I really like the ui.

Eventually, maybe even sense.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 2
I would tend to agree with you. Having different UIs are a nice change of pace while other roms that mimic AOSP are visually boring after a while. However, I think the UI is taking up too much resources that causes the significant battery drain that many reviewers seem to complain about. Personally, once CM10 comes to the Optimus G, I will be using that instead.
With external SD u can have mutiple roms with different flavours
Biggest advantage that I feel which is pushing me for upgrade to this one , obiviously apart from monstorous horsepower underneath is the external SD card. I kinda liked having two roms simultaneously installed in my galaxy S2, always kept one TW based and other CM based.
With One X ,Lost this flexiblity. I hope we get good Devs derived to buy this powerhouse and can provide alot on rom options , both with LG UI and CM/AOKP. This is one of the reason I'm looking for this one.
Cheers to all who are already enjoying this !
noob question here, almost too embarrassed to ask, but how do you add/remove screens? Haven't figured it out yet :\
Yeah.. that's definitely not gonna happen.

It just all depends on what u want. For me I'm a aosp user and hate every other overlay so for me it doesn't bother me if ROMs look the same. If it bothers someone then learn to theme or buy a device that u like the manufacturers skin on but no skin will ever perform as well as aosp.

That's not always true. While aosp uses less resources, since it is geared to work on everything, it may not be as optimized as stock is. Apparently, the nexus 4 performs worse than the optimus g, which could mean that lg did a good job of optimizing it for the device in a way that aosp did not.

Good argument but these manufacturers just take aosp and add **** on top. So your still getting the same aosp as a google phone with **** added on that always makes it slower and there's no way in hell an optimus outperforms the new nexus. Whoever said that (I don't care if it was a 100) is crazy.

I believe it only outperformed it because the benchmarks weren't optimized for 4.2 yet. Who knows what kinda of framework changes Google has done. Also keep in mind that all the Nexus 4 right now have pre-release software. All of them are bound to have bugs.

Pure AOSP Rom?

Is there a pure AOSP rom out there or nearly pure made to work with the DNA?
Short answer: Nope
Long answer: You are more than welcome to look through the Development thread. There are only a dozen or so Roms so it shouldn't take you too long
Longer answer: CM10.1 is in the works but I'm not sure its at daily driver status yet.
Sorry for the sarcasm...

Yep. It's almost there. As soon as the camera is working I would consider it dd status
Sent from my ViperDNA using Tapatalk 2
I've been using CM 10.1 for my dd for a little over a week and have had no issues other than the lack of camera and an easily removed issue with GPS.
I'm no developer, but from my experience with the LG Spectrum, once CM has all of the hardware functioning, then AOSP and AOKP are not terribly difficult. In the case of the spectrum, a fully functional pacman ROM was released a few months after CM was completed.
Question of my own. What exactly needs to be done to gain official support for CM? I would love to be able to flash nightlies like on my nexus 7.

I've been using it as dd off and on. It's good enough for me to use it a few days a week for now. I really hope development picks up after cm10 is ready. I feel like not enough developers have this phone for there to be a lot of support. Idk if devs actually need the phone to make ROMs for it though.
Regardless, Chad, cr, fly, and the other devs working on cm have done a spectacular job. If we have a cm ROM, aokp, and pa I will be ecstatic.
Is there any point in having a 100% pure aosp ROM?

i don't want all the crap themeing and "mods" that come with CM, I just want pure android, if I want to add something ill do it myself.
I've contemplated back and forth for some time whether I want to build AOSP for the DNA. The camera really has been a PITA for another device I've been working on; It shouldn't be as camera works on CM10.1. However, it would suck to put all that work into it for the camera to be the hold up (although, I don't think it will be as difficult since its 8mp and the one I have somewhat working is 13mp).
The main issue is that if I build AOSP (well technically I have already built it), I would prefer to stick to google's base code as much as possible without bringing in CAF/CM code to achieve goals. Doing this, makes things a bit more difficult.
I suppose it's also a bit of whether it is worth the effort and if people really want it as well.

DD for me.. because from here on out, it's all fixes and tweaks.. I wouldn't mind a pure Vanilla AOSP rom, but these things take time.. We'll get there.. Not just yet.. but I'm sure things are cooking now that many of the issues have been fixed..

I still have a hard time understanding why Nexus 4 got it before G2 because Nexus 5 is basicly same hardware as G2, but it doesnt bother me so much.

Because everyone in the Paranoid Android team owns a Nexus 4 and all has bought the Nexus 5. Pretty sure lots of them own the Nexus tablets also.
Honestly, I tried Kit Kat on my Galaxy Nexus and I don ´t know what to think about. Yeah it is faster, but LG G2 is fast anyway. Can ´t find anything which would be esential.
I hope that at least battery will improve. Otherwise it´s not big deal.

I have been running cyanogenmod since it came to g2 and i consider it stable, especially after todays snapshot release.
For me it doesnt matter if its a nexus or not i flash a custom rom anyways, and in this case the g2 hardware is better than n5 with the same software i see no reason to get n5 besides the price if you live in a country where playstore devices are available.

[Q] Is Quincyatt (I717) Further Development Stopped/delayed/suspended ?

(Cross post from forum.cyanogenmod.com)
Hi everyone,
I wonder if there any plans to support ATT version of Galaxy Note ?
all recent updates are minor and I don't have any hope that CM10.2 (not even mentioning CM11) will be ported to it which is kind of sad.
I understand that there are some issues with stability and drivers. Does that mean I need to get other hardware to continue using CM ?
Due to all those problems I switched back to stock image and not happy with it, but it is damn stable ((
Thanks for any update from the team.

so what i am reading here is you have 6 posts. i understand that you cannot post in development yet, but that does not slow you from reading.
i am not a technical brainchild and lack the ability to understand some of the terminology, so you will have to give me a little leeway.
development may have appeared to have slowed, but take into consideration the age of our device and the rate manufacturers are producing devices. we may not ever get another official upgrade for our Note, but my phone has ran better in the last few months than previous 8 months. there are some brilliant folks out there working selflessly for us. you may not find much in the straight CM development department, but since release of 10.2/ 4.3 roms, it is much more stable than 4.2 ever was. it runs smooth and effortless with none of the random reboots which plagued 4.2.
now we have quickly bumped to the 4.4 development which is still in its infancy. give it time. there are 2 Alpha/Preview releases right now, with at least another in the works that i know of. my guess is someone will have a Beta or full release by the end of the week at the rate these guys go. cant hold me to it as i am just a recipient who benefits from their deeds. that's just my guess from what i see as far as their work pace.
so excuse me now, i have to put some Kit Kat 4.4 on my phone, which has only been approval to run official 4.1.2 JB.
i am sure this is going to prove to be a good conversation starter here. thank you

I'm sure there are brilliant people in CM team and they are doing amazing job, this is doubtless.
This is the only reason I'm trying to get back to CM world and get any word on further development.
My only source of information on the releases are:
http://10.1.cmxlog.com/?device=quincyatt
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/hudson/blob/master/cm-build-targets
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=quincyatt&type=
and xda of course
First three show very little progress on this particular device. I'm not complaining, but just trying to understand current state of I717 support.
In comparison with I717 twin - N9000, we get less updates.
I saw 10.2 builds in XDA forum threads, but I consider them as unofficial builds, and I know nothing about them, how well they are performing, etc. I will try them for sure, thanks for pointing that out.
All my question is about is future support of this hardware, should I think about upgrade or just give up and use stock ...

as i said take the tour, take some roms for a test drive. i don't know what you consider your experience level is........
everything runs a bit different on everybodys phone. for example, the Carbon rom has lots of cool features, but it just doesn't seem to want to work on my phone. i just don't want you to label all roms on the basis of one. Hellybean runs great on my phone. there are some here that wont give a phone or rom time to settle in. they make so many tweaks and adjustments in a rapid amount of time, they don't know if there adjustments actually did anything.
so be patient......if its not compatible for your phone, you will probably know right away. if it works, give it some time. there are good and helpful people here. just try and help yourself first and read.
getting ready to slam some Kit Kat on my phone right now with Jaime's CM11 preview 4.
As cyanogenmod seems to have dropped us for 10.2, we are unlikely to see official CM11 support. Our hope for further development lies in unofficial builds from Jamie and Patch who have been kind enough to build from source and share their talents with us.
Normally, I would accept that, at some point, you have to stop beating a dead horse. It's unrealistic to expect a 2 year old device to be supported with the latest and greatest - especially in an environment like Android which seems to have such a quick cycle.
The alpha builds, however, have proven to be more stable on my device than anything 4.2 or 4.3. My question is whether or not we will see some important functionality (like TTS and video camera) restored on OUR device if it is not being supported by CM officially?

There should be some balance here, since advanced devices are good in performance, but expensive and not widely used.

Personally, I'm loving the AOSP feel of 4.4 in a way that I have never really cared for it in Android versions prior. The way Google now is integrated into the GEL is how I would use Nova Launcher to setup previous versions.
With it's super stability, I am really praying that you give us something akin to your Nexus or Evervolv roms...Hell if we can just get working TTS and Video camera on top of what you've given us with your alpha, I'm done...............
.......until my next phone.

Devs are also users. Almost all of the devs work on the devices that they own. We may not have the quantity of devs for other devices, but we definitely have quality devs. I also have GTab 2, and LG Optimus and Galaxy S2 LTE, which I manage for my family. Some have very active devs, some don't, but they all have good devs.
I don't know what you mean by "enough attention from developers", but we are getting plenty from our devs even if we don't deserve them. Whatever we are getting beyond the official 4.1.2 is all gravy. Jamie's CM11 preview is running awesome, and I haven't tried Patch's 4.4 rom, but I expect the same.
What more are you asking for?

Android L made you thinking about switching to Nexus 5?

After watching thousands of videos about android L I'm really thinking about changing my G2 for Nexus 5. Maybe because I had nexus 4 and maybe because of so many developers, I dont know. Anyone else ?
I don't care about android L and for me G2 is still better choice
No thanks. We'll have Android L soon anyway either through the upcoming port OCEANDEV and Co is working on or through CM

I did switch, returning my N5 tomorrow, its not worth the battery sacrifice. That and L is way, way to buggy. While i was using the N5 i went back to 4.4.4, L is that unusable as it is now.
Got N5 here dual booting L
anyone in the uk/london area wants to swap?
edit.. phrase went badly wrong lol

Hmm well that'd be an argument from the other side. Thanks for your input. I, for one, love my g2. N5 is lame sauce!
We are gonna get L soon anyway, why sacrifice amazing 4k camera and massive battery just to get android a month or two earlier than the rest of people on xda, and those people who actually wait for carrier updates. They would probably get L 6 months later, if they ever do get it. (Not counting HTC)

I don't know or it still exists but i also read that LG G2 Official cm11 builds had Lagg because of some outdated thing and those kind of things but it got fixed on unofficial builds right? Also the official bug list god.

I hope they will fix the things in cm12 but else the awesome devs here will fix those problems:victory:

Best case i got was 4hours screen on time on about 17 hours total time. Which is a good 50% less than the g2 on a bad day.
Not saying this is what everyone will get, but for me that is the case.
Yeah I know, G2 has amazing camera and battery but on the other hand, my previous phone was nexus 4 with LOT of development and I'm kinda used to have all the latest builds

To have it earlier? No way.. thats not even a valid reason to switch the better G2 for an N5 (the N5 is great too, no doubt, but the G2 has better battery and camera - for me).
We'll have Android L sooner or later too, so.. just patience and its fine

Mine previous phone was also the N4 but the reason i quitted was that there were too many roms like on the N5 which all are just looking AOSP so no thanks. You can go to the N5 if you really want much development but the g2 also got already much development. Else when we figured out the black vertical lines issue and when i will receive my G2 then i will try to make a Port guide how to port the roms just like Porting nexus 4 roms to optimus g:laugh:

I think I'll be satisfied with Mahdi for quite a while now...
Plus, the "selfie button" is still a favorite joke
Having swapped from an N5 originally I can safely say that no software would make me switch back to that piece of junk.
