I recorded a few videos this weekend and I'm severely disappointed. The hyper-active auto focus makes the videos almost unwatchable plus there was some strange freezing/macroblocking going on also. Everyone else having the same issues?
yep. recording video is god awful on this phone.

I've had a few focus issues but nothing to bad. Just a bit of a delay till focus. Other than that, it's the best I've had. Comparing to my S4.

I have to agree from what my samples have shown at 1080p 60fps. Blurry, focusing seems inconsistent, and requires very good conditions to record to even closely resemble 1080p. But my still photos seem good so not sure why there's inconsistency.

The breathing issue was also present with the G Pro. LG fixed it in a firmware update, meaning that at least that issue may have a remedy. I noticed the issue in Anandtech's videos in their mini review.
Can you use another camera app like lgcamera and tap to focus during video?

Does if happen if you lower the resolution?. Just wondering if lowing the res would help at all????.

Hey guys i have a question here, when the evo 3d was announced by htc they say it has 3d camera which will be awesome to play with. 1080p 24fps and 720p 3d 30fps but the sensation has 1080p with 30fps. Why? will there be any major difference while recording 1080p between 24fps and 30fps??

Only thing coming to mind is NTSC video plays at 24 frames a second and PAL video at high 29 fps... The Sensation a non usa phone, right?
Correct. As long as its smooth, doesn't shutter/skip, I'm happy.

Lol yeah, what i tried to ask was if sensation could play smoother video than evo 3d since it has slightly more fps.

You got those backwards. Plus I thought it was said at first that the Evo would shoot 1080/30p. I don't think anybody, even HTC, knows the finalized specs yet.
I 1080p on my phone.... wont it drain the battery?

Lots of misinformation in this thread.. NTSC is displayed at 29.97 frames/second, PAL is 25, and neither of them have anything to do with the recording framerates mentioned here (30 vs 24).
30 (interlaced or progressive) will basically give you the "soap opera" look, it's the reason video looks like video, where film looks like film-- film is traditionally recorded at 23.97 fps PROGRESSIVE, which is largely responsible for that hard to quantify difference between the look of a show on television and the look of something you shot with your handycam.
The two framerates here are a product of these conventions, and a bit of a gimmick for a phone IMO but hey, more features are more features.

So the Evo should have a better 1080 vid capture?

Happy to help. Generally speaking, yes, based on the fact that the 23.97 framerate (Commonly referred to as 24p) is preferable so by extension it would be better to have the option and use it if you can.
Do i hear tweaks?
The stats on this phone are amazing but we all know HTC likes to give us something to do
In other words, theres a chance it can be 1080p 30fps. I only own a HTC Fuze, but someone got this camera working alot better then HTC gave it to us.

Yeah, if it's only an option, and not limited to it. I'd much prefer 30 fps over 24.

Hi guys,
I'd love to have read some users' impressions about SGS3 video recording quality, specially if there is any stutter, or focus bump. Is its technology so good that it can be compared to a camcorder or video-reflex in some way? Thanks a lot

Really useable vid camera, seems a lot crisper than my s2 was, plus whilst videoing
u can snap great pictures at the same time
i am very happy with it.
on the whole the camera seems to blur the crossover between dedicated point and shoots and phones. if i really need a good shot then i'll bring an DSLR but for all other stuff this will do fine.
It works great, but the video is very compressed. Could be better if compressed less I guess. Pictures are very good, when it is bright enough. The flash (LED) is very powerfull!
Does anyone with s3 also have a one series I was thinking about getting the one s but might just wait for white s3

Uhm... anyway i believe it can resolve a lot of detail (i compared video stills from gsmarene video comparison tool).
The only thing I'm a little concerned about now is dropped framerate or focus hunting...
I may seem nagging but I have a video project in mind with smartphones and so need some information .
Thanks!
coming from a note 1, Im a little shocked to see just how badly compressed the ZU's camera is.. I dont care about the lack of flash, but the colour is terrible and i often cant see a great improvement from VGA res photos to "8mp" (actually apparently only 7mp.. and only 4:3) .. im clinging to the fact that its the jpg compression that is causing the majority of the lacking detail (looks very much like it) and that an update somewhere along the line will let you save as fine quality or ideally TIF / RAW
I haven't actually got the phone yet but have seen a lot of reviews on this topic and they all agree with you... I think your right that they have rushed out the phone to early adopters to beta test if you like before releasing to the western markets. I'm pretty sure there'll be an update with in a month that improves camera, screen issues as well as Sony app crashes.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It's completely the JPG compression. At 8MP setting, the resolution is 3264x2448. That would be a 22 meg uncompressed file. The photos the ZU takes are 1.5 megs as a JPG. They're way overcompressed and show ridiculous amounts of artifacting. Why do they do this? What year is this? Are we concerned about a 5 meg photo?
My guess is some marketing / support execs decided they didn't want to take support calls for people trying to email a few 5meg JPEGs so they just crank it up to heavily compressed so the files are 1 meg and email easily without any conversion.
I just hate that everything has to be decided based on the lowest common denominator of idiots. Clearly though, that's what's happened here because the camera sensor is probably not bad.
It will be funny when people are all excited to buy Honami because of the 21mp sensor but the final JPGs will be compressed to ****.
Yeah, after 2-3 weeks with this, a coming to love it in general, fact is the camera will have me off to the Note 3... Silly Sony.

The XZU has a camera? Wow, it's so far down my list of priorities, I guess I just didn't notice.
I was actually impressed with the camera on this smartphone. So much better than my Xperia T on color reproduction and noise reduction.
I feel like the camera is really good in light but useless in low light. I love my phone but I may buy something like the galaxy camera or if the qx10 gets a larger holder I would buy that.

I myself don't bother too much with great camera quality on a smartphone.. Nowadays, it's about capturing the moment rather than checking every pixel out of a picture.. If you are really into such a thing, those QX series is a great addition i guess

I think Sony is using a cheap sensor on the XZU. The pictures are just plain ugly comparative to older phone cameras. The worst picture taken from my HTC Butterfly looks way better than the best picture taken by my XZU.

I'm contented with how the picture that I took with my XZU turned out. Maybe because I am not a "photographer"
Note: Photos were cropped and I just encircled some parts of it, as I used them in reporting something at work. No filter done though!

From the pics you posted you can clearly (or not) notice the lack of detail. It looks like a collage. Compare that to the photo from my HTC Butterfly at the same 8MP.

The quality... is pretty bad.
My Galaxy Note 2 camera is much much better.
The quality is so bad that even for a basic photo of friends it doesnt do.
Like the other guy said, if you take a photo of a whiteboard at college, or at a presentation it comes out so bad that you can barely see whats on it.
I don't know how you people are managing to screw things up so bad with the camera. It's no Lumia 1020, but it's really not that bad if you don't use the standard Sony app. Or even if you do, it's fine so long as you don't zoom in. Not sure how you're going to claim it's not good enough for casual pictures of friends. I find it had to believe there are so many photography enthusiasts out there all of a sudden. Before I had a smartphone, I didn't own a camera at all, and I know many people for whom this is also true. I suspect this is the case for many users. Any camera is better than no camera.

Thanks for creating and sharing that man. I like how you actually recorded with both devices at the same time instead of one at a time, while trying to do the exact same thing, which is never exactly the same.
You can really see the difference in the motion blurring effect between the S8 and Note8 especially in darker scenes.
Thanks again.

The stuttering is why I only recorded in 1080/60 with my S8+. Looks like I will be able to do UHD now. Can't wait until we have root so we can get that data rate to 100+ Mbps where it needs to be with UHD. 60FPS would be nice too.

At a glance, your photos look like mine. The FFC is total garbage. Dumpster fire garbage. I come from a Lumia 950. Say what you want about windows, but those phones have a great camera. I have had to settle and adjust to my new reality. My wife still has a 950. I ask her to take the important pics. One good thing about the V30 though, it has manual settings. I would like to learn how to use manual better because amazing things can be done with this V30, then.
