[Q] Screen Problem: Top Not Responsive to Touch - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hi XDA! Noob to the rooting world. I bought a used ebay phone that was "glitching." It was rooted so I downloaded MeanBean to fix. It doesn't glitch or spaz out as much but the top of the screen, the 1/2 inch of screen below the "HTC" emblem, doesn't respond to touch at all. The whole screen freezes at times too until I turn the phone off and on a few times.
It used to respond every once in a while before MeanBean and when in "Safe Mode." Now I have to turn the phone horizontal to pull down the notification bar. Is this a software or hardware problem and anyone know of any fixes for the glitching and screen issues? Thanks in advance!
It has DirtyRacun. It is S-off Hboot 1.19
It has TWRP installed.
Great phone, just wish I could use the whole screen!

Sounds like an issue with the digitizer, most likely. You can replace it yourself if you're up to it.

im not sure it is a hardware issue
the phone has started glitching again and the screen freezes until I reboot or shut the screen off and back on. It used to do it and it went away but now it is back.

Make sure your drivers are up to date. You can download and install HTC Sync to get the latest drivers. Also, boot into the bootloader and connect your phone to your PC to load some additional drivers.

So I loaded a new sense 5 ROM and Android 4.3. The top 2 mm of the screen was still unresponsive most of the time. I still couldn't pull down the notification bar unless I tilted the screen horizontally. I then ran VipeRUU and set the phone back to sense 4 and android 4.1. I am in the same spot now, unresponsive top 2mm of screen. Is this a digitizer issue or software issue? I'm stumped...

Sounds like a digitizer issue to me.

[Q] Screen glitches with response

I apologize in advance if this question is in the wrong place.
I am on Deck's 11-24 build from IRC and hoping that it fixes the problem I've been having.
Sometimes my phone will go crazy and the screen will start reacting as though some phantom is using it. The screens pan around, random apps will open, random buttons will be pressed, etc. Usually, I have to shut the scree off and wait a few seconds for it to go back to normal. If it isn't that happening, sometimes the screen becomes completely unresponsive.
Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing similar issues.
I am S-ON
Have been dirty flashing
Wasn't flashing the kernel of each new nightly
Have flashed (using Flash Image GUI) the kernel for TD 11-24 build
Yeah I have expierenced that myself and I'm on mean Rom 6.4

Dingdingding. Already got one replaced a few months ago but this one is showing symptoms now too. Easy way to know it is happening is to enable show touches in developer options.

Has anyone else been experiencing weak or unresponsive home and back keys. My home key does not always work. Just trying to see if mine is faulty or others experience this issue.

I have the same issue and it has been pissing me off. I have read the OTA has fixed this issue for some. I am still waiting for my OTA to come through.
Screen off/screen on seems to kick it back into gear most of the time for me.
I had the same problem. Unlocked bootloader and put TrickDroid on, and this problem is gone. Not that it should be the solution, but it seems the move to the international update fixed that problem.
I also had the problem on stock AT&T ROM. Flashed ARHD and the problem is gone

Doubt it. Sounds completely independent of software.

I flashed international Rom and it's alot better I have two ones that I use and there's s big difference between stock att and international imo

Stock ATT rom here and there are times I have to hit the home button a few times. Gonna unlock bootloader tonight and see about installing a rom.
Mine definitely require very accurate taps. I am getting used to it, but I am hoping a software update will improve the responsiveness.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
Seems to be the case more with our (ATT) software. Flashing the international or one of the international ROMs seems to make it much more responsive. Hopefully our phones will get the update soon!
I loaded an international Rom and I still occasionally get buttons that don't work and I have to lock and unlock the screen.

Some say it's the screen protectors some say it's not. I did notice before I out one on it wasn't so bad. But once I out it in was constantly smashing the buttons and where the are so flipping close to the screen I would open unwanted apps. Anyway I too a straight edge and an exacto knife and cut the protector off right where the screen ends and the black capacitive area begins. Did it last night and haven't had to press anything more than once. Just a thought from a guy

Compared to my One X, neither of the buttons are precise at all, even without a screen protector on the AT&T Rom.

I agree. A screen protector shouldn't make a difference. Never did with ny One X either.

Even when I didn't have the screen protector installed it was also very finicky. It seems like you have to press down exactly on the buttons for them to register the action. Even then, one of the buttons will sometimes wig out on me while the other one will continue working. It seems like the problem resolves itself within fifteen seconds most of the time, but its annoying nonetheless.
What's funny is that I thought it was a software problem at first, but even after switching over to the newest CM nightlies it still happens every now and then.
Yea but basing that in cm10 is irrelevant
Because so much is patched and ported but agreed this thing sucks sometimes

Home and back button sometimes do not respond

Sometimes the home button won't respond when I hit it, while other times the back button doesn't work. They never both quit working, only one or the other. Once I turn the screen off then back on it fixes the issue or get to the home screen, the button will suddenly begin working.
Anyone know why?
Are you using a custom kernel?
I've had this happen to me as well. I thought it was a problem with the screen protector that I had recently installed, but not true.
The same thing for me as well, turning the screen off and then on makes the capacitive buttons work again. I have had it where sometimes both are not working, but usually it is just the home button more often.
And for myself, no, I am still on the stock ROM
Yeah I'm on stock as well. Was going to unlock it but if I need to return the device to att I want to figure out what is wrong first.
The sprint version got an update to fix this exact issue....here's hoping att does the same or this thing goes back before I break it!!! :banghead:

Same problem with me. Day 1 I got the phone, Day 2 exchanged it. Now day 12 and have continuously been having problems, even since the swap. AT&T store guy told me they don't know when they are getting the update. Don't know if I should hold out or swap to SGS4 :crying:

I can't speak for everyone, But Scotts CleanRom 2.5 fix's a lot of stuff AT&T screwed up
and it definitely make's the touch more responsive. The Home and Back buttons are working much better with Cleanrom
in 2.5 he updated to the newest leaked AT&T version 502.12, I be leave the fix was a part of that.

[Help Needed] Notification Pulldown Menu not Functioning

I'm having an issue today and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced that I am at the moment.
Earlier my screen froze up and the touch stopped functioning. After rebooting using power and volume, I noticed that the Notification Pulldown menu in portrait no longer works. If I use landscape, I can pull down the menu, but not in portrait.
Thinking it was the ROM, I restored a backup and the same problem. I then restored stock and the problem continues. I now notice that I can only access auto rotate in the settings menu.
This is troubling as the device is only 6 weeks old.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so, what are your solutions?
Thanks in advance
If you have reflashed your rom it sounds like it could be a hardware issue. Did you flash the stock rom using the ruu?
Try to reflash the ROM. It could fix the problem.

After breakfast, I noticed that the phone was back to normal again. I don't know what has happened. The only thing that j can think of now is yesterday I cleaned the ear speaker lightly with a toothbrush and a bit of glass cleaner, especially the top edge of the screen where it meets the ack rubber coating.
Could moisture from the glass cleaner invade under the screen and short out the top part of the device? That is the only other thing I can think of.
As well, HTC said that the 14 day refund or exchange has expired. I have an option of selling my one x+ as a second hand phone and upgrading to the One. Need to think about that

Issue Resolved
For now, things are OK. Could have been the glass cleaner. Resolved for now.

[Help] S4 Screen Flickers When the Phone is cold?

Hey friendly members of XDA,
My phone started to flicker recently and I could not figure out why it does this...
http://youtu.be/uhSOd6tlVgw
I did not have any water damage or physical damage to my phone but it started doing this randomly. When my phone gets colder, the screen starts to flicker, then half of the screen flickers with a yellow hue, then after a while the screen will be yellow. Also, while the phone is cold, the screen will not turn on. (I failed to show this in the video). Is there something I can do to fix this?
When I warm my phone up with my hands, the flickering goes away and everything goes back to normal.
Thank you,
Jerry

Using ROM w/mdk boot loader?using ROM w/safestrap?if stock which firmware are you using?all these things will give people more info to help you with the problem...and all these variables can all have their own quirks and problems...give a little more info and I'm sure someone here will be able to help
Sounds like a graphical blobs problem but I don't how internal temperature could affect that.

Since your phone is still under warranty, you'd better send it to Samsung after-sales department for checking. Maybe it is free!

It's up to you but I probably would. If something physical is affecting your phone then there's some type of hardware issue with your phone. Unfortunately xda can only help with software.

Well you could try flashing the latest Adreno drivers for our phone in recovery, if you still have SafeStrap that is.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ygyqpqmz6m30yuj/UPDATE-adreno-drivers-jflte9505.zip
Filename says i9505 but it's good for our Verizon S4s too.
Probably is a hardware issue if you've already tried Odin and different ROMs but hey worth a try if your going to send it back anyways.

I'm not safe strapped. I'm LOKIed.
similar screen flickering problem in cold ish environment, diagnosis.
I have a similar flickering problem. Is related to "cold temper.". There is a translucent rectangle that pops-up and overlays 80% of the screen (lower side) - it flickers. The rectangle is light grey and the screen icons etc are underneath it. However, the grey gets more and more dense and eventually, the rectangle becomes solid grey with less flicker, then, you can no longer see the screen contents beneath it. Also, the overlaid rectangle grows to about 95% of the screen. Only part of the notification line on top is visible. Amazingly, the screen and touching the various icons and buttons still works 100% perfectly ... only problem is you cannot see what you are touching ; . . . so you have to guess where the various icons and buttons are, . . . and touch them accordingly (blindly so to speak). I suspect there is a background "phantom" task that is running, pertinent to various sensors ( ex. proximity) that is misbehaving. This phantom task likely is launched after a wake-up or re-boot event. Eventually, the phantom task slows-down its strange work, the flickering and the greyness of the translucent rectangle is reduced, and after few seconds it goes away and the phone works fine again. So my diagnosis is: some kind of fault between a background running task and the GPU O/S driver. The problem is critical in that if you are out in a snow-storm scenario and want to use your phone, simply, you won't be able to, the flickering obstruction can last 5-10 minutes.
Has anybody solved the problem with 100% satisfactory result ?
