[Q] Help, BN screen unresponsive - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Hello, I finally got my tablet to how I wanted and put my daughters apps from my phone onto the tablet so she can use that and I could have my phone back. I went to read a book and the screen wasn't working. A few days before that I noticed she was in the touch firmware so I'm assuming that's what the problem is. I tried uninstalling the root using Ray's method to unbrick but that didn't do anything. If I install the CM10 microdisc it works fine as the android tablet but I can't use the screen as a BN tablet. Still a noob but I think she flashed something. (I remember a red button as I walked in.) If this could be fixed I would appreciate the help greatly. Also is there a way I can hide the icons in the app tray so I can prevent this in the future, she's 2 and I see other things happening. Thank you again.

There should be an app called "touch firmware flasher" or words of that meaning when running CM10. Run that app and restore to original touch firmware.

It comes up current firmware 10-touch you can flash stock and that's it. How do I restore to original firmware?
So I ended up hitting for it to flash again and it fixed it. Didn't see any kinds of menu so figured it had to do with that. Thank you for your help I assumed it would have to do with something else.

Evolution Fonts - Flash in CWM

I edited the Evolution_Font install zip so that it doesn't remove the odex files. I just installed this using Clockwork and it's working fine for me. I recommend making a nandroid before doing this though just in case and as always if you brick your phone don't blame me.
The original font pack came from the Evolution theme, I don't take any credit for this and if whoever did create it wants it taken down I have no problem doing so.

edit: Added the Default font if you want to switch back.
I flashed it but now for some reason I cant load my downloads in the market, prob unrelated but other than that fonts work just fine.
Ok after a reboot it works just fine now, wonder what that was?
The font is a lot smaller than the stock, but I like it. Like it gives it a cleaner look or something.
after running quadrant with that loaded, I am convinced it did something else, the screen just looks more crisp.

itd entirely possible there is some sort of server maintenance or something... when i installed app brain a month ago there just happened to be server issues that night.. i assumed it was the new software.. logical right?
im running some backup/restore tests now... takes a while...
I couldn't get anything to authorize or download from market... used nandroid backup and worked fine after...

Love it...

not completely related, but i figured since the OP knows of the themes the fonts originate from, would i be able to just install the Launcher pro that is themes in the bugless evolution rom? i basically want the widgets...
edit: so i decided to just make a nandroid and then see what happens.
worked just fine! the widgets and the font go nicely together!
Thanks now if we could get a flipfont apk port that would be great.
Love the font, but I too am getting a market error. Trying to install other apps and it FC's and then the apps are stuck "installing" can't cancel them out.
Flipped to wifi, same issue. Gonna shut it down, pop the battery and see if that does the trick.
EDIT: Yup, market still continues to crash even after a couple reboots and a battery pull. Why would this cause the install/market to crash?
which market apk are you using? the original one or the 2.2 version?
mine is working fine (i use the 2.2 market)
Using the updated version. As far as I recall.

no, i'm running it on the stock rom with root and voodoo
My setup Voodoo/oc'd kernel/aosp boot animations/deodexed Market 2.2 and have NO issues with this font whatsoever.
You did flash it through CWM correct?
I uninstalled the market update, went back in and downloaded the apps that were hung on install (as they were still showing "installing..." on the market page, even after a CWM restore) and it worked.
I can live without the new market until 2.2

Galaxy S2 freezing up

Hi folks,
My galaxy s2 has frozen up on me about 5 times now as if a process has stopped responding and killed it. I need to press and hold the power button until it restarts to get it going again.
The phone is running stock firmware which I updates yesterday via kies. Hope someone can help!
Thanks

If you have root run locate . If you don't got root access u can use watchdog to se if there are some apps chasing the freezing. http://market.android.com/search?q=pname:com.zomut.watchdog
Thanks ill give watchdog a go (not rooted) .

Faulty GS2 from Three
I have just received my new GS2 from Three UK today. Phone freezes when I try to film video. Have to keep power button pressed for about 10 seconds to turn off and restart. It also freezes when I try using voice commands.
I called Three and they will send another phone. I was lucky I noticed the problem before rooting th e phone. Another annoyance is the fact they bloat the phone with apps you cannot uninstall, so a generic ROM is definitely needed, unless you want to keep their included apps.
I believe this is due to a faulty unit as it happened to me right out of the box, no rooting, no apps installed, no nothing. Continuously freezing on me. I'm returning the handset tomorrow.
You could always freeze the bloatware with titanium backup pro its well worthit
Amd even uninstall them if u really dont want them

[Q] "Wi-Fi sharing" and Wi-Fi sharing manager"? Not needed for normal WiFi usage?

[Q] "Wi-Fi sharing" and Wi-Fi sharing manager"? Not needed for normal WiFi usage?
I find these 2 "Wi-Fi sharring" things running usually.
Sometimes they even rank quite highly in battery usage.
But I only use WiFi as a normal client for internet access, never for tethering, so I can stop those "WiFi sharing" processes?
Did Samsung/Android unintentionally mix up the naming of processes?
Has any one else ever seen "Wi-Fi sharing" rank highly in battery usage, even though he/she only uses WiFi for the phone's own internet access?
I have this exact same problem with the Wi-Fi sharing running in the background & draining my battery completely!! Still haven't switched over completely to this phone yet because of this & really hoping I can find a fix for it.
I've seen this mentioned in other threads but most of them talk about rooting the phone to achieve the solution.
Is there any other option for stock users? I can't believe Samsung would expect everyone to do that!!!
It's driving me insane. The battery is completely dead by the mid day! Thankfully I haven't completely switched over from my trusty Desire HD just yet. But am aching to use the SGS2 if there's an easy fix for this.
Anyone have a solution that doesn't involve rooting the phone?
Big thanks in adavance and apologies if this has been discussed already but all the threads I found only involved rooting.
Cheers,
AndroidFreud.

Wifi sharing comes up once every time I stop charging it. (takes 30 min before it starts) I kill it once and it does not reactivate until I next charge the phone.

you can remove it using titanium backup.
these 2 have no effect on the rest of the regular wifi functionality.its for connecting to the pc through WIFI.
they will appear as long as the WIFI is on
you can use titanium back up to back it up and remove them. in case you will need it you can restore it.so theres no harm. try it.
hope that i helped with it

Flashing my firmware to KF3 fixed this for me.
Previously I was on KE7, and had this problem.
I flashed KG1 and this is not an issue at all anymore either. If you don't feel like flashing, you can use Titanium and freeze both the sharing and sharing manager with no side effects from what I can tell. I am assuming wi-fi sharing would be convenient if you could share between two mobile devices using wi-fi but not if its a bug as it was in earlier firmware builds.
I used Titanium Backup to freeze those 2 apps. Very glad to hear that the KG1 does not have this issue anymore.

I did the same too.
Apologies, I'm a noob to this. I understood using titanium backup would mean you would have to have root. Is this not correct?
I've only recently got this phone & am on the stock rom. I'd prefer not to root a it would void my warranty.
Is flashing any different? I also have a desire hd & haven't had to deal with any of that. How would I go about it?
Sorry again for all the noob questions. Any help at all would be appreciated.

Well, you might lose the warranty if you are not using a tiny jig . The point is that you can flash custom roms / kernels, etc as much as you want, and if you brick you phone, just insert the jig and everything goes back to normal. But you will have to flash the stock rom / kernel though. But if you want root (more acces to your device) you can do it without changing f/w or anything else. Is good to have root especially for titanium backup imo. With paid version of this app you can even freeze things you don't use everyday or anything else (e.g. wifi sharing).
(sorry for the bad english, but I hope I was helpful)
Thanks for the quick reply.
What's a 'tiny jig'? And do you have any link on how to go about flashing? Will also do a quick search on this. Thanks again.
I'm just finding it incredible that Samsung would expect their users to go this route instead of via an update?! Arent any other users experiencing this?
I tried updating through About Phone> Software updates> but it always says connecting and then connection failed so have not been able to see if that works.
Thanks again for all the help.
UPDATE: Ok did a little searching and came across this which answers most my noob questions. Going to try it out.

Ok so that method earlier mentioned apparently will void the warranty so I'm back to square one again.
So has anyone out there been able to fix this on a stock rom? Anyone who got an official update from samsung that actually fixes it?
Everyday I return home to a completely battery drained phone. Not sure how good this is for the battery life. desperately need help here!

[Q]No launcher, can't boot

I have a Samsung Galaxy Blaze 4G, running Android 2.3.6, but I don't think this question is all that device-specific. If it is, someone will let me know.
I'm pretty new to Android.
This phone is rooted. I didn't install any custom ROM, however. I rooted it only to be able to use SetCPU and to be able to freeze/block some things, which I did successfully. This is where the problem starts.
I used a program called Gemini App Manager to block certain things from running. I had installed Launcher 7 and was using it for a couple of months. Today, I decided to return to TouchWiz for a while. I had blocked the TW files for some reason, but I used Gemini to unblock them. Or so I thought. I went through the motions of doing so, but didn't actually check to see if the unblocking worked. Apparently it didn't. Not knowing this, I uninstalled Launcher 7 from the phone and rebooted.
Now I can't get past the Samsung splash screen. It appears that TW wasn't unblocked, and with Launcher 7 gone, there's nowhere for it to go.
Yes, I'm an idiot. Let's get that out of the way first. The question is: Is there any way to fix this?
just reflash rom using samsung's official tool for updating software.

Yes there's a way to solve it, however, you need to have USB Debugging enabled... You can install another launcher via ADB, and that way access again to your apps/files. IF you need a guide, ask me, I'll do one for you
Can't you install a launcher from the Play Store on your computer to your phone...?
The problem is solved, thanks to help offered here and elsewhere.
I was able to install Go Launcher using ADB, although to do so I had to "wipe data" from the manual boot screen first. When this was done, and the phone rebooted, TouchWiz was back; I didn't even have to do anything with Go.
I'm sticking with TW for now. It works fine for my purposes. I had been using Launcher 7 for a few months, after having a WP device. I had also read that Launcher 7 was easier on the battery. I don't know if this is true; I've read so many conflicting things about launchers and battery life. In any case, TW is fine at least until ICS comes through; then I'll see what I want to do.
I had to re-root after the above operations, so that I could continue to use SetCPU.

Use FasterGPS to change the gps.conf back to the US. It is fairly straightforward to use, just give it root privileges then:
1. Under continent select North America
2. Once you select continent the Region box will become selectable, you need to choose United States.
It will show a toast message that says the GPS.conf was written successfully, then you just need to load Maps up and it should lock on quickly without losing the signal.
If that doesn't work just post back and I will give you something else to try because AFAIK the Super, Mega, and whatever the hell wipes aren't recommended for this phone and if I am remembering correctly they caused soft bricking on our phones that was a ***** to fix. While this wipes have most likely been fixed I wouldn't bother with them, if you want to do a wipe because what I told you to do doesn't work then you just need to boot into TWRP, click wipe, click the box on the right side (I think its format data or something but I can't remember off the top of my head), type yes, click go and then reflash whatever you want. At least try FasterGPS first, that works most of the time on International Roms.

With this fix you don't have to push anything at all, just boot into recovery and flash it like you would a ROM. Don't bother wiping anything with this fix, just flash it.
http://db.tt/9E3aMJxS
Also pushing files isn't that bad when you use something like Root Explorer, all you have to do is copy and paste it to wherever it needs to be. If you have to fix the permissions after pushing it you just have to long press and change them, it will load a little box with all the permissions and all you have to do is check the ones needed.

What the hell? There was a report of that in the thread in General but I figured it was bogus because the person would never ever reply and every single ROM I have tried it on, TW included, it either fixed or did nothing.
When you restore your nandroid does your GPS go back to the normal non working state?
Something else you could try, that i just thought of when replying to someone in the VRB thread, is making a nandroid of a TW ROM, that you got a strong GPS lock for at least 5 minutes, on your internal SD and then try either reflashing Moon or restoring a nandroid of it. I would probably just reflash it to have a clean slate but I would also understand if you didn't want to have to go through setting it up again.
That probably won't work but I know on my S3 I had to have a working backup on my internal or else GPS refused to work at all, on my Note 2 I have to reflash the fix I linked above if I forget and wipe my nandroid before establishing a lock.
Also are you trying to get a GPS lock with or without the Wireless network setting on? I know on AOSP having the WiFi and Mobile network location setting checked in addition to the regular GPS location it would refuse to even turn the GPS on. You had to have the wireless location setting off before you could get your GPS to work, while this isn't AOSP it could be a shared bug and is worth testing out.

For my Thunderbolt there was a file called "SuperWipe" that was essentially a blank file system that you could flash to your phone to quickly clear EVERYTHING.
I have not seen anything like that for the Note II yet.

It was released right after the phone came out. I want to say it was released in the N7105 forums, it could have been AT&T though, and there were some serious issues it was causing in all the Note 2's. It was supposed to have been worked on but I haven't heard anything since then and honestly wouldn't use it after all the corruption issues that arose from it.

That is the way i have always done it, on CleanROM ACE 4.9, Vanilla Rootbox, and all the other miscellaneous TW and AOSP ROMs I've used it on. It is made for AOSP but didn't hurt any of the TW ROMs I've rested it on.
If it completely got rid of your GPS when you tested it before though it may just not be a good idea to use it on Moon.
When you're testing GPS do you always have the WiFi and Mobile Network Location seeing under Location Settings checked? I know on AOSP for a while you couldn't use that setting at all and then on some TW ROMs you had to use it to get your first lock and after that you could get away with not having it enabled.
I would just flash Moon ROM and see if you can get a lock. Try it after creating a nandroid of a TW ROM that has working GPS on your internal storage, on my S3 the only way I could get a lock on any ROM was to keep a nandroid with working GPS on my internal SD card.
