I recently got the Geeksphome Keon Firefox OS developer preview phone. Although it is a good phone I'm sure it would be better if it could run android and Firefox OS is still in beta. Is there anyone who knows how to accomplish this? This is what I've worked out so far:
*firefox OS is based on the same kernel as android
*it uses ADB and android fastboot, so they are definitely similar
*thriugh eclipse sdk, one can install an app on ff os but it can't run.
So they definitely aren't too different. Also if you download a build for the Keon it uses the same kind if structure as an android ROM. And there's a .android secure folder in the SD card. So I don't think it should be too hard if anyone knows how to port/can port for me, that'd be great!
i had the same question seems that some spanish guys did that. They dual booted a Geeksphone Keon with Firefox OS and Android 4.0.4.

I just got a batch of the Avaya Flare Experience tablets... They sent us ten of them as a part of a major order. (it was cheaper to get the package)
Since these are Android-based, I figure there has to be a way to root them.
Anyone interested in working on this?
I have carte blanche since no one wants one while they're all Avaya'ed up.
If they're rooted as regular Android tablets, I'm sure my team will be interested in them.
Unfortunately, I have no idea where to begin.
Any thoughts on breaking the startup sequence or where to start with rooting these?
Thanks!
Ven
Played around the device on my office was able to load an x86 android live usb boot a bit buggy cam not working and some other stuffs but since the infra project was scrapped its much usable than stock firmware. Not realy sure but if the divers were properly loaded and the usb image repacked with flare drivers would eliminate the bugs in any case its a nice tablet to tinker with
here are some proof of concept pics and stuffs , and yeah need a usb keyboard for input, a usb mouse can also be attach , wifi working, touch working, some games will not run/crash since majority of stuff on google play is not optimized / coded for x86
What was the software that you used ? that version?

I just got a flare myself. I would love to get some help rooting and loading x86 android on it. I know this is an ancient thread. Zxhian if you are still out there could you contact me? Either here or at my user name at yahoo dot com.
Hello,
My company trashed some Avaya A175. With a colleague we would like to play with but they are stuck in the very first firmware version and it is not possible to download latest firmwares on Avaya's website (404). Would someone havea newer verseion?
hi guys,
i'm approching now to the world of mobile OS, and i don't understand something.
i hope someone can answer to my questions
in a computer i can install an OS , ubuntu, mac os, window, debian etc
in my mobile phone can i install just an OS without apps or something else (except for default apps)?
for example can i instal just Android 4.0.4 ??
if yes, where i can find it?
and if yes, wich default apps have Android 4.0.4?
I do not think it is possible. The OS comes with hardware drivers..
If possible then anybody will able to upgrade their OS in latest android JB.
]The Nebula Mars, which is made by an offshoot of Anker, comes with a custom OS running on Android 4.4. For the unfamiliar, it offers a decent projector in a small size, combined with a battery for portability.
Since this isn't a phone running a typical phone ROM, I'm hesitant to root it and start tinkering, but the stock OS and software is absolute crap. The system allows updates and installation of APKs, but the company says they have no intention of issuing a firmware/ROM update.
Any advice on where to find others who have this device and are also interested in modifying the OS or updating to a newer version of Android? Any recommendations on approaches to non-destructively modifying the OS? I don't think it has a separate partition for restoring prior ROMs, and I'm just inexperienced enough that I'd end up bricking it.
Same question about the Nebula Mars Lite model
So I webd to Walmart and found that they sell the lite model for $349. The problem is that there is no android at all. I am not sure if the hardware is any different because both models look identical. I wonder if there is a way to either install the original mars OS on it or something better ie costom rom of some kind.
Hey ! I'm also interesting in upgrading the OS of my nebula Mars... Any news for this project? Thanks !

just grabbed the Lite version ($180 at my walmart) and it looks like it is running android (lollipop it looks like, PC shows "lollipop" when connected to the wifi settings page) but it's locked away behind it's launcher...
that's all I was able to figure out.
Nebula Mars 2 is on the market with Android 7.1. Anyone trying to port it to Mars 1 please?
Hi guys, I have a question for you. I have a tablet, which is not supported above android 4.2, but it is not that old (Asus Memopad 8 K00l). Nobody even on XDA posted ROM for Android 4.4 or higher. But: I can install Android Nougat on my laptop and it surprisingly works without any issues. Why is it so difficult to install it on some random tablet device?

Every handheld device like a smartphone or tablet has its own hardware.
The kernel, for example, needs to be programmed about which drivers to load.
And most of the time, each device has its own drivers.
Each ROM is built for a particular device, that's why one ROM which works on one tablet does not work on another.
But in case of large devices, like laptops, they are designed so that any kind of OS can be installed upon them according to the concerned person's needs.
There are operating systems which work only on part of a computer chip.
These OSes help in installing almost any OS in a laptop.
The same are probably not available for handheld devices like tablets
Hi everyone!
I'm facing a "big little" problem with an custom made Android app. I don't have code skills so I don't know how to change the code of the appk.
The problem is something like this:
- Have an apk created a few years ago, with the API level 19 (android 4.4). It runs okay at all Android 4, 5 and 6 versions, but since android 7 I can't use it. Is an application that need root privileges to work properly.
There are any simple way to do something that allow me to run that apk on Android <=7 version?
Can't downgrade Android version because the stock version of my actual android phone is the 7.1, can't go lower than that.
Sorry if my question is not well explained, my English is not too great.
Thanks
Cheers.

Don't worry , your English is understandable
I don't think you can run older APK on a newer Android version. Because the API used in this app may be deprecated or something like that.
I'm not sure of the info I provided you here so if someone tell you the opposite , he may be right .
