Hello all.
I have recently moved from a Samsung Galaxy Note II to the Sony Xperia Z Ultra and now having issues with ActiveSync on my email. The account can connect fine, and lists the messages fine but when I open a message up, the BODY is blank. Sender, subject and all other data is fine. Just a blank body.
A bit of googling shows that this issue is floating around the Net for other folks with other mail servers (including Zimbra) and the problem is related to the "HTML body size", with some servers being able to set this and some clients misbehaving. AFAIK, there is no such setting in Kerio Connect which is the mail server I am running, and there is supposed to be a workaround built in to the current version for the seemingly misbehaving Sony Xperia Z altho no mention of the Z Ultra.
See here for some info:
http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-S-SL-acro-S/Can-t-read-Exchange-mail-body-after-6-0-a-3-73-update/td-p/155919/page/3
Well I cant seem to get any joy out of this at all. The "unsupported client" flag on Kerio has been turned both on and off to no avail. Right now I am having to ActiveSync my contacts and calendar and IMAP the mail, but that is horrible and folder management is inadequate that way (items sent from the phone are put into the phones 'sent' folder which is not the same as servers "sent items' folder so they never show in Outlook 2010 on my PC. IMAP just totally ruining everything. HAVE to activesync fully.
Anybody else got this with their mail server (which one?) and anyone know what to do about it? If dont get any ideas, then my plan would be to unlock the bootloader, install CWM and then flash in the AOSP email client to replace Sony one. Have downloaded quite a few clients from the PlayStore. Problems vary from being ugly enough to stop a clock, to not supporting ActiveSync at all or only over WebDAV. All useless in one way or another.
Anyone have any ideas?!
Thanks,
Asif
Kerio Connect: 8.1.3 build 1711 (running on Windows Server 2008 R2)
Client: Sony Xperia Z Ultra running Android 4.2.2, ROM 14.1.B.1.532
PS I have left a similar message on the kerio forum with no reponse.
I'd try an alternative client, recommend maildroid free to see if it works, never had any problems.

MailDroid doesnt support full proper ActiveSync but only offers WebDAV which is not the same thing.
Also on activesync email not shown as html

No worries pal. Thanks for trying.
newstar - what is your email server? MS Exchange, Kerio or something else?
Think i will end up unlocking bootloader to install CWM and then using AOSP email client (which is shame as Sony one rather nice; certainly nicer looking than Samsung one was although that did ActiveSync perfectly!)
try touchdown, i use it and its pretty decent

Thanks. I ended up unlocking the bootloader, flashing in CWM and then using it to install generic Android email.apk whcih performs ActiveSync perfectly. Much better than paying for an app to bypass Sony's poor implementation of the ActiveSync protocol.
Happy camper now!

I have been using the native client but I hate in notifications that it only shows one message unread not numerous ones. Also when you click it. It only takes you to inbox not to message.
Anyone know of how to fix these settings or another mail client?

I really like MailDroid free.
You can set different tones for different times of the day, and per email contact. Works great, if you want to have a really loud annoying tone from important people.
Anybody know a good Android app that does Exchange and also other email like Gmail combined?

the email app on the phone handles multiple accts of IMAP, POP, Exchange, etc.
They're separate apps natively...I'm basically looking for an equivalent to the All Inboxes function on iOS...

the email (not gmail) app will handle gmail as imap or activesync as well as any other accts. in a single or combined view.

MailDroid will do this, but its not a unified inbox, if thats what you are looking for.

You're right! Didn't know that...thanks for the info!
I use enhance email. I'm using m.google.com for gmail as exchange on 2 Accts. I really like it. Has combined inbox, fit to screen (mobile view) which was really important to me and I'm sure this app does more than my simple mind understands

I don't think this will do mutiple accounts, but by far the best Exchange mail app I've used is TOUCHDOWN by Nitro.
One of the things I LOVE about it, as opposed to using the built in Android mail app, is that any 'remote' admin features are ONLY applied to the Touchdown app.
ie: if your Exchange admin requires a password to get into your mail... if you use the standard android, you have to type it in every time you unlock your phone.... if you use Touchdown you only need to type it in when opening Touchdown.
And most importantly, last I checked, if the Admin wants they can remote wipe the DEVICE if you use the built in mail app.. with Touchdown they can only wipe the mail app's data.
I've used it for several years across multiple companies and it's pretty damn awesome. (It's not just mail btw.. it's also exchange calendars, and Tasks.. and they sync with the built in calendars and almost all widgets).
Email App issues
Whenever i delete a email it doesnt seem to actually delete them as when i go onto my PC there all there :S
is there a way to fix this issue?
also i have noticed theres no option to sync emails using email check frequency as theres no "Auto" option only manual and mins there after
i wish there was a way to get the stock android email app
does anyone have any ideas?
thanks in advance as always
Well, does the email service you're using use IMAP or POP3? If you don't know what these are, then Google it. It'll take you 30 seconds.

Check incoming settings for the account. If it's imap, then there's no option to delete from the server, if it's pop3 then you have the option to delete from server when deleting on device.
AFAIK outlook is only imap these days. But hunt for pop3 settings with Google, there may be a work around.

Hi, I've always liked Kaiten Mail, as an alternative.
The added good thing with those alt apps is that you can restore many accounts at once with Titanium Backup

My problem with Kaiten Mail and a number of other alternatives is the extremely tortuous way of getting Exchange email to work. I still think the stock email client is good enough. I have configured virtually all my email accounts (including Exchange and gmail) in it without having to wave my hand 7 times to the violet band of the rainbow!

Oh, I guess that remark is fair enough.
I do not need Exchange, so I do not have to suffer through it's setup
Kaiten mail has many options, so i guess it works, but not easily :/
I can't get the email to sync on its own. I have it set to auto sync, and push is enabled, but still only syncs manually. Anyone else having this issue?

Maybe not related but I read in one of the reviews there's a problem in the default exchange email client of the phone that needs fixing by an update and the reviewer recommends another app like Nine (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ninefolders.hd3). But I think it was about asking for a pin+password to login while other apps don't.
I installed nine, but it doesn't allow the combined inbox view, which I always use having 4 different email accounts. Also, I cant tell if it auto syncs either.
Wouldn't this be something related to the power saving options such as if you have stamina mode enabled, it overrides any scheduling you have set in the app? (Sorry if this isn't helpful as I don't have the phone yet myself).

I agree with this and also if you have the Qualcomm battery guru installed, delete it as it also messes with push notifications.

Just discovered Nine - Outlook for android app. I have not been using it for a long time, but I can tell I won't look back. But, I must state these facts though. First, the app is not free as the service they provide is "Tha Bomb". One time payment of 9,99$ on the Play Store and the app is yours (there is no such things as monthly fees or subscription). Second, you can't use gmail with it because Google had changed the policy not to support ActiveSync for general Gmail users on January 2013, but I am pretty sure the devs will be looking to support IMAP in a near future. There is a 2 weeks free trial period, so why not giving it a chance, if you don't like it, just uninstall it after the trial period and go back to your favorite mail app. I am sure you will not be dissapointed!
** Note
Nine is not cloud based. It stores your accounts passwords only on the actual device. It connects only to the actual mail servers. It stores your messages only on the device.
Update: Nine - Outlook for android app is now called Nine - Email & Calendar. It now support Gmail & G Suite (Google Apps).
