Well about a week ago anyways...
Paid $185 for it 2nd hand, figured that was a decent deal and a good upgrade seeing as how I was using a droid 3 that had the gsm radio flashed on it.
droid 3 was ok for everything i needed but the camera was trash and the screen small, the droid dna is more than capable in those departments.I'm sure some consider the phone "outdated" since it has been out almost a year but ive never been the one to constantly need the newest technology,so im good.
my only gripe, the audio is not loud enough.i didnt appreciate the droid 3 external speaker until streaming some music off google play on the dna, just not loud enough and i hate headphones so the beats thing is pointless for me.
anyone else notice the external speaker is not that loud?

My speaker is plenty loud, also have you tried a ROM with any kind of audio modification like ViperDNA?
This will happen on Cyanogenmod or another AOSP based ROM because the rear speaker amp doesn't function at full capacity. Try flashing a Sense 5 ROM. Sense 5 is where I have gotten the loudest and highest quality speaker audio.
Also, try installing Viper4Android or another sound mod and play around with the EQ settings. You may be able to boost the speakers a couple decibels. I use V4A on crDroid and it works great for headphone audio.

Since there's no Q&A forum for this phone (yet), I'll try in here.
I've noticed this morning, when listening to my music through my earphones, that the volume tends to subtly fluctuate - perhaps slightly reducing the volume on the louder parts of songs.
I don't like this (it's not even at max volume either) - is there a way to stop it? I've looked in the music player's settings and also the sound settings for the phone itself, but no luck.
This is my first Samsung Andrdoid so if I'm missing something common to these, feel free to hit me with the noob stick
You've got the SGS II already?
You are probably in the wrong forum, mate.
Nope, he is not.
Some lucky dawgs got it through P4U.
I got it yesterday afternoon from Phones4U, although I think I've sorted this problem out now. I think it was related to the bass enhancement setting, because I disabled that and it's not doing it anymore (or it's no longer noticeable).

Big question how do you find the sound quality what headphones are you using? Thanks
Swyped from my Desire HD using XDA App
I'm using Soundmagic PL30's and the sound is great, although I did notice a bit of crappines when I had the bass enhancement on and turned it right up. Now I have it on Auto/Rock EQ with no effects - perfect for my needs.
I've yet to test the phone's speaker.
I don't have the phone and only played with android briefly before, but in theory, what you are describing is known as "normalizing", where the device tries to make the songs sound as even as possible. This results in capped louder parts and sometimes increased quieter parts. Is there any option like this in the equalizer?
May I say... Congratulation and I HATE YOU... J.K...
Post up some more details of what you DISLIKE of it so far

Actually PL30 are slightly bass heavy themselves and at best average if sgs2 sound is even somewhat like sgs. If u really want something better without breaking bank get brainwavz M1 or nuforce ne6 if you prefer boomier bass. This phone does deserve more than PL30.
PL30 respond very badly to presets on SGS1 as well.
Magically posted from thin air!
Aw, I only bought these a couple of weeks ago!
I'll bear your recommendations in mind though, thanks.
Actually, the earphones that came with it look better (not the awful standard things you usually get). I probably won't open them though.
Edit: no normalization option, Deathangel. It sounds ok now anyway

Really? The Yamaha DAC that was included can actually best the Wolfson 8994? I've been torn between the SGSII and the Sensation for quite a while now. This tips the scales in the GSII's favor.
P.S.- How does it compare to an SGS with the Supercurio Voodoo mod?
It's very close mate. I haven't done a proper comparison between them but I get a full range from Bass, mid and treble using PowerAMP to listen to music with the SGS II. I'd say it maybe slightly better than the SGS with Voodoo if I had to chose.

This seems the best thread to ask...
I'm looking for the best earbuds I can get for £30 or less (preferably less of course) for the highest quality listening. I'm hoping to use the SGSII in place of my iTouch since it can play FLAC natively!
Any help/suggestions is greatly appreciated!
Hi all, I have been an avid Motorola User. I started 2 years and a half ago with a Milestone then about 6 months ago I got an Atrix 4G. now I have to renew my contract and they are giving me the option to upgrade my cellphone. I can get either a Razr MAXX, a Galaxy Nexxus or a SGSIII for about 1/3 of the regular price, that would be about $4,000 MXN. It may not be so cheap, but I have the money and I am actually considering it.
Currently I have CM9 on my Atrix and what I do most is listen to music, check e-mail, browse the internet and about 2 hrs of calling per day. Since I got to have my 32GB SD Card, GN is out.
Since I do not really do a gaming on my cellphone nor any other processor intensive task, benchmarks are not a big concern to me. But I do have some things I'd like my phone to have:
Ultra smooth scrolling and launcher
Being able to playback .ogg and .mkv (it is important that it is capable of doing mkv smoothly)
Have the option to swith songs with volume rocker ala CM
Be able to last at least 1 day of battery (something I have troubles with on my Atrix 4G with CM9)
Have a very clear call, to be able to clearly and loudly hear the other side and have a good mic.
So how does the RAZR go against the SGSIII on that? I know that the MAXX is clearly a winner on the battery department and probably too on the call part, but what are your opinions? Is there a way to have the song change with volume rocker on the MAXX? Will it eventually get CM9, or is there a ROM with this feature?
Thanks,
Gustavo
Hi Gustavo, I can help with call quality and battery. Hopefully other folks will jump in to answer the other questions.
The Razr Maxx is a solid, reliable phone. It's one of few smartphones I've used that:
* Has never dropped a call
* I can always hear the other party (on calls) loud and clear
* The person on the other end of the call routinely hears me well -- no voice cutout or break-up.
Battery life is very good. I generally charge my Maxx every night but could easily go 2 days without charging. That's using 4G/3G cellular data only (I don't normally use wifi).
Hope this helps!

Thanks! It is good to hear that, I am inclining more towards the Razr since I have heard there are some quality issues with the SGSIII calls.
I have Nova launcher on my Maxx, it's excellent! Battery life is out of the discussion, I think. Since you are not a benchmark buff, and are already on the Motorola boat I'd say get the Maxx. Got mine and only paid $600.00 MXN, my wife got the standard RAZR and paid $400.00 (They ran out of the Maxx variant). I watch a lot of videos, but never bother to see the type. For music I have Player Pro, love it though I wouldn't know about the rocker button function.
I have tried dozens of phones with the primary purpose of finding the phone with the very best outgoing call quality and microphone. The RAZR and Defy tie for the very best currently available, although I don't think the Defy is still in production. Samsung phones are without a doubt absolute crap as far as intelligibility at the other end goes.I have complained about this numerous times, obviously the complaints have fallen on deaf ears.

Thanks for the input, my dad used to have the original latin american SGS and the phone call quality was terrible, I wondered if that changed, but apparently not.
By the way does anyone know if there is a way of doing the volume rocker to change song thing?
i use a bt headset, se mw600
surprisingly, it is more capatible with the RAZR than with my old xperia,
since i never get the lcd on the headset to display song title properly.
the voice control is still a bit rusty, get confused From time to time, comparing to ios`s siri, but the battery really beats anything else.

After the fustercluck that Motorola gave us, I decided to never again be at the end of the software update curve.
I love my Nexus 4. But, damn it, the sound sucks. I use V-Moda LP2s and it's like a 5/6 out of 10. The Atrix (with CM7.2) has louder sound, better dynamic range, and the bass is full on better! I actually realized that the Atrix is hands down the best media player I've had in a long time.
So I'm keeping it. As much as I hated to use it as a daily driver, it will serve its purpose as my music player. That is until CM10.1 is released for the Mako (Nexus 4) and I am hoping it at the very least reproduces the same sound quality as the Atrix.
Makes me wonder what the sound ship is on the Nexus 4, and on the Atrix and how they compare to each other. Anyone have any ideas?
Our Atrix has a WM9803L DAC chipset, a Wolfson model which is the same in some other nVidia T2 AP20H SoC whereas the Nexus 4 uses Qualcomm's own WCD9310 DAC chipset, also included in other S4 Pro SoC (e.g. in SGS3's US version).
I hope that it'll help you on your research.
Thanks, I appreciate that a lot.
Moved to the Nexus a while back and came around here to see what was up. Seems pretty dead.
>-Sent From Something That's From Somewhere-<
You mean internal DSPs on each phone? Nexus' speaker always used to suck but I heard nothing wrong about speakers.
Following u Soon!!
I moved forward to the SGSII a while back, but I'm still a proud Atrix owner.
Most phones I eventually sell, but my Atrix is definitely a backup keeper...

Do you mean through the speakers or the headphone jack?
I've moved across to the Lumia 920 (and love it) but the sound quality out of the Atrix does beat it, especially when connecting a headphone into the headphone jack. The speaker loudness are similar but the Atrix does sound better still. I'll too be using it to sit in my car as a music device.
I was going to get on a Nexus 4 but I don't want to support Google after the Atrix debacle. SG2 gets JB, while we're stuck on Gingerbread even though Google owns Motorola. What a joke. WP8 is much nicer to use anyway.

Didn't notice I was clear. Definitely the headphone jack. Audio is just so much better, and CM7.2 just adds that extra serving of bass and dynamic range (via the DSP) that puts the audio far into the lead.
On Stock, the Atrix ties with the iPhone 4S, but the DSP on CM7.2 is fab! Hoping to recreate this experience with other devices, but from the looks of it, the Snapdragon Pro 4 Audio Chip sucks. And this chip is on a lot of new phones, it's on that new Sony Xperia Z too.
i've always had nokia phones so the atrix was my first foray into android. i do have to say paired up with my sony mdr7506, the atrix is a pretty damn good media player, probably besting every nokia i've had.
I've enjoyed *most* of my timeline with this Atrix, except of course for the face slap Motorola gave it & stopped updates waaayyy too early. And my next potential phone is probably the N4.
Right now though I'm waiting in hopes the XDA developers manage success in building a stable Olympus ICS/JB kernel for the Atrix. If they succeed that'll probably keep me in Atrix heaven for quite a while longer
Atrix love
I really loved my Atrix HW wise, SW wise... not so much. Thank god for rooting and custom kernels!
BTW, a friend got the Atrix 2 a while back, and he swapped it for an Atrix 4G.

Sorry for the late reply. I have since moved on to a Note 3 N9005, but the audio on the Motorola Atrix running CM7.2 is still #1 for me. NONE of the CM10.1 releases replicates the audio quality of the CM7.2 release. I don't know why, but that's it in my experience. I think Ill buy another Atrix as a backup media device / phone when it really comes down in price.

Hi!
I like the look and especially the size of the ONE MAX.
Can someone tell me how the volume compared to a Galaxy S4 I9505 (whout any Modification) is?
ONLY the volume with headphones on, not the stock headphones - any headphones. I just need to know if it is - via headphones - loud or if it isn't
Is it louder or would say it is less loud?
I know it sounds crazy, but this is one of the most important questions to me. I use my smartphone 50% Music, 15% Camera, 25% Internet and 10% the rest. :good:
I hope to hear from you,
have a nice day,

Never used S4 before, but from my experience HTC devices have always sounded better on headphones vs the comparable Samsung devices.
I've used both samsung s4 and htc One Max.
S4 I can hear at max volume through earphone but not my one max. It's higher!
Even Sound Quality HTC wins! in earphones , headphones, and speakers; The HTC Boomsound wins by far!
That my opinion dude!
I dont know about S4 but Sound Quality is certainly better than Note 3.
However, its not better than Beats Audio ?
My phone is not rooted yet but I will root it after 4.4 update.

You should give a try to all the options before making any purchase. I'm not telling to buy, but it's only my opinion about the sound quality. My wife prefer the beat headphone just because its more comfortable, and the color. So every one has a different opinion. for me its only sound quality. therefore i prefer the one max with pioneer.
Just try to hear the sound from different headphone, and choose yours.
Before purchasing any, you may test at the shop itself. I always do it.

Speaking of this, does anyone know what changes were made when HTC quit doing the Beats thing? I'd imagine that all the important hardware (e.g. the isolated ground for the headphone jack, etc.) is all still intact, after all the only real "beats" concept is the EQ software (which, IMHO, is inferior what can be achieved in DSP).

Yeah, beats is majorly the EQ part, we don't have solid proof about the presence of hardware for this.
Time for a new Cell Phone (on Verizon as it's the best service around here) Curious if any of you guys with 4.0 players (with poweramp and voodoo sound) could comment on how a LG G3 or Samsung S5 sound compared to the 4.0, I don't want another phone with music playback like the Droid Razr.

don't take this the wrong way, but the age of the device doesn't automatically mean better sound, Voodoo doesn't work at all on the G3 or S5 because they DON'T have the Wolfson DAC that the SGP 4.0 has, and it's fairly well known most cell phones don't focus on audio quality (for music playback), they are more about call quality, as exampled by my Razr Maxx that gave me excellent call quality but sucked horribly on music playback quality when compared to the SGP 4.0, with the SGP 4.0 having been released to market a month BEFORE the Droid Razr.
Also I've been to the S5 and G3 forums and watched MANY MANY videos on youtube, but non spent anytime talking about the audio quality when listening to music thru headphones, this is why I asked here, was to see if anyone that has/had a SGP 4.0 has recently gotten one of the G3 or S5 to give their opinion on sound quality differences using their favorite headphones.
either way it doesn't matter now we got new phones on Saturday, I went with the G3.
