Screws are so hard! How to remove them? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, managed to open my samsung galaxy s2. I am now trying to remove the motherboard. That said some of the screws are very hard, can't remove them, not turning at all. Does anyone here know if there is some trick to remove them. Also what is the exact name of the screw driver I need to use so that I can go an buy it (at the moment I am using a generic one i have at home).

Sorry, thought was posting for the S2 forum. However really and truly this is not mobile specific. I do have a screw driver that fits but when I try to turn it jumps because some screws are attached to much. Is there a spray I can use to help release the grip?

Know what you mean...Tried to bite one, almost broke my tooth. A piece of advice from me - DO NOT try to bite them!

Don't use too much force. You may damage your phone.

Yes it says i9100 but it works for the i777. I just bought from that link and replaced it my I777 with basically the same problem you have. Problem was solved (see "usb won't connect" thread in Q&A).
There's a YouTube video showing how to replace it on the i9100, which I followed and is extremely similar to the i777.

I must add, that you should really evaluate yourself, and decide if you have the skills to do it. It can damage your phone permanently if you don't do it the right way.

100% positive. I promise I just used it in my I777 about a week ago. Heck, if you want to save cash I can install it for free for you. Just PM me if so.

at the risk of necromancing.... if anyone should stumble upon this looking for help like I did, through google. When you open your i777 up, the port board in your i777 says i9100, so yes the above listed item would work.

I'll +1 that. That said, I replaced my port and it still won't charge! Any ides on what else might fix it? I suppose I could have gotten a bad replacement.

I finally found a replacement port that works in the i777 after a couple of failed attempts. It is sold on ebay by muchbuy-outlet. Here is the link:

I'm about about to purchase a new port as well and wanted to know if you had tried the one from the quote below without luck.

Did not try that one. There is one on amazon that some one said in the comments worked with the i777 but I could not get it to work. Also, on ebay, one from ipartsdepot1 did not work. I also contacted several other sellers that said their's would not work. Hope this helps. -- Bud

Does this require soldering to install? Are there any instructions available? Thank you.
Edit: I found a video here which I think should help.
Won't charge?
Like rushaan stated that you should think before you go any further, if your battery will not charge it could be more of an issue than a charger. For the last week I have been trying to boot mine and only get one of 2 messages, The Samsung boot image, and I have done all most everything I have read in our forums. The last run, I had been re-installing some apps, after a ROM change, all was going great ,then a message came up Stating that "due to the battery heating up,it was shutting down the charger" so, of course battery was drained and con not get the freakin' phone to do anything but show the "SAMSUNG" boot animation.. NOW, since then I can not get it to boot, esp. into CWM recovery. I am still reading to see what file/image that I maybe able to use while utilizing ODIN. So,with that being said look a bit more in-depth before you think you have the correct solution.

[Q] hard brick i9300

hi,
my i9300 seem to be hard brick, but i don't understand why and how because i strictly did nothing
my phone is not rooted. it was in my pocket, and perfectly working, a few minutes later i would use it and it died.
i thought it was the battery, so i tried a few things that i could find. but nothing works.
all i tried did nothing (the screen is always black)
the big problem is i'm living in montreal canada and the phone come from miami so samsung want repair it :crying:
help me please
I'm sorry to hear this, but looks like you are one of the many with sudden dead gs3.
If you cannot fix it at samsung. Best chance would be to buy a motherboard or a smashed gs3 and use the motherboard.
I think would be cheaper to send it to samsung and let them replace the board for you. Email them and ask and compare prices.

I've used them for several parts ....and they are a fine company....

[Q] Odd, maybe stupid S3 question...

Hi all, this may seem like a silly thing to ask but here goes....
I've got an S3 I9300 with a smashed screen. I would like to salvage my data/pics etc before I bin it.
However I can't access it via my pc as it has a screen lock that I obviously can't see or remove.
I have a spare Galaxy Ace 2 that I'm using temporarily and my question is; will the Ace 2 lcd screen plug into my S3 board temporarily
so I can retrieve my stuff?! I know I should just try it but I'd rather ask first before I waste my time stripping both phones!
Thanks for reading!
No will not work.
Different connectors and drivers.

This is great news. Will make a DIY one again soon.
Ps. Wrong section tho, ask mods to move to accesories or general.

Heh i used to sell those back in the captivate days... good times
You are in the right Section to me! It's part of recovery, not an accessory in generic sense!
It was also able to reboot the tamper counter before, will it do so with the s7 ?
It'a good that I haven't lost my old USB jig from S2 days

I wasn't around the mod scene back when the S2 was a thing. Could you share with me how you made a very clean jig? The ones I've found can be a bit messy

i think the one he has is a pre-made one, he bought it like that, I just made one using 3x100kOhms and 1x1kOhm. Didn't worked tho, maybe the usb cord I found collecting dust in the drawer is broken, will try with another cord.

This was a pre-made one but if I Remer correct it's a 100k resistor contacted to pin 3 and 5.

Still got one I made for the S4, it is 300k Ohm (Or the one I made, 3 x 100k Ohm) across pins 4 & 5 (ID & GROUND)
Or easier, buy one for a couple £ on ebay
Thank you for the correction on that I knew it was 100 something
Can anyone confirm that this really works? My S7 seems to be hard bricked
