I am in Vancouver, BC, and we have those ShawOpen wifi network around town.
So here is the problem, when I go around town. My phone will connect to the wifi network around town. It will keep connecting and disconnecting to the wifi and data network. Making my IP phone and IM apps act weird.
Is there anyway to keep both wifi and 4g data on at the same time. I know the old app superpower on xda does it on some roms. but doesnt work on stock Razr HD.
BTW I have a Motorola Razr HD stock 4.1.2 canadian rom (rogers) rooted.

That's actually a normal behavior when it comes to Data/Internet, so Android switch automatically to Wi-Fi when you get in range of a stored SSID, and once you get far from it, it will switch back to 4G again and this just a politic about battery saving because 4G consumes more juice than Wi-Fi.
To respond your question I should say there's no way to have both 4G and Wi-Fi connected at the same time because that isn't really suitable (and not Possible?? for a phone at least), and the only workaround I can tell you is to just keep Wi-Fi turned off and use only 4G so you won't get bothered.
Hope that was clear.

So I had my phone up and running, wifi running great. For giggles I click on the Mobile hotspot feature even though I don't have that service. It disables my wifi and tells me the feature is unavailable. I turn my wifi back on and it turns off immediately. I've tried restarting the phone to no avail.
Has anyone run into something similar yet? Please help, the "4G" is slower than 3G on my old backflip (not really haha)
I did the same thing and I don't have that problem.
I assume you're rooted?

Yup, one of the first things I did.
My wifi was dropping out using 802.11n. I took away all encryption and made the router invisible by disabling the broadcasting and the connection has been fast and reliable.

well I think the issue is with my phone since wifi doesn't work with any router (home or work). In fact, the wifi wont stay on long enough to try and connect to a network, it just turns off as soon as it turns on.
That happened to my rooted and ROMed Captivated a while back, and it still wont connect to certain towers here on campus.
Try deleting all wifi settings from the phone/ and resetting the router and starting over.
Rooted/ROM Captivate
Rooted Atrix
That's apparently normal for the phone. If you try to enable a hotspot and you don't have that on your bill, WiFi gets disabled.
Ok so here is my issue I've tried two different rom Clean Rom 4.2 ICS and Bafm 2.0 ICS.when i do wifi tether its works fine for a moment then all of a sudden it stop transmitting data in 4g then goes to 3g or no data and when i stop the wifi it stays in 3g or no data i have to reboot the phone to get 4g or 3g back I would like some help with this if any can.

VZW is on to you.
How long does it take before 4G cuts out? I just tried it on mine and so far its been stable for a few minutes of tethering to my tablet and streaming some Netflix.

I have not experimented with any ICS roms other than Nils ICS Business. Under settings make sure you set it to Nexus (CDMA/LTE) with routhing fix on. After that it should work smooth. If not, there are only two other possibilites one being your ROM or two being your on the edge of 4G coverage and your phone's signal is drawing so much trying to transfer data that it drops from 4g into 3g. Ive had similar instences where this has happened and I end up turning WIFI off and then Mobile Network Off, followed by turning them both back on to regain 4G.
Also you can try updating su binaries, sometimes that helps problems with tether.
I scanned this forum before creating this post and I'm pretty sure there isn't one already out there but please don't flame me if there is. I couldn't find any and I spent a good 30 minutes last night, trying to find something like this.
I purchased a used HTC Rezound recently but was unable to get 4G LTE to stay ON. I surfed various forums for a possible fix but couldn't find anything that I hadn't already tried.
This morning, I think I might have found a work-around. Here's what I did.
After activating the line and being able to get sporadic 4G LTE signal on the device, I went into the wifi settings on a hunch that maybe some unexplicable interaction was happening between wifi and the 4G radio. Wifi kept wanting to turn itself on and I kept fighting it by turning it off.
I located my home network and clicked 'forget network'. Once I did that, I went back to make sure wifi was OFF and that Mobile (data) was ON and WHAMMO!! Immediately, the 4G LTE indicator popped back on and I've been rocking 4G for about 2 hours now, without a single blip. I've watched an entire episode of 24 on Netflix in an area of my house where I've confirmed that I have a weak signal and still, no problems at all.
So my Question is this: Is there any other way to disable wifi without having to 'forget' the network when I want to use wifi? (Other than what might seem obvious by turning wifi OFF when I know that doesn't get rid of the 4G dropouts).
It's really only an inconvenience at this stage. All I'd have to do to connect is re-enter the password and since I don't use wifi when I'm at home because I have Unlimited Data, it's not really a big deal but it just seems that the OS on this phone was purposely designed in a way to take people OFF the 4G network when their phone is 'familiar' with a wifi system they're near.
======================== UPDATE ====================
There is no issue with the phone. The issue was an activation issue and I was able to eliminate the problem by trial and error. It turns out, the way I was able to get the device to connect had to do with re-seating the SIM. Once I did, the phone has been flawless in connectivity to both 4G LTE and wifi regardless of the combination of wifi settings. I hope this is useful to anyone reading the thread.
Is your Rezound stock or custom?
LTE will disable when WiFi is activated, most LTE phone does this by design. I have experienced where my Rezound's WiFi would want to turn on automatically on the clean rom, re-flashed and everything was good.
I personally never had issues with my Rezound. If fact, the Rezound has one of the best radios to date. The fact that HTC integrated the antenna into the battery case housing is what makes it a strong contender for receiving radio waves..

Go in advanced settings wifi settings (menu advanced settings)and disable the automatically turn on wifi setting. (Not exactly sure what its called as I hate sense and I'm not running it) but ull see it in advanced settings and then when u want to actually use wifi just enable wifi.
Problem solved

Well, I'm on stock ICS but rooted with S-OFF. The wifi, even when OFF kept wanting to turn ON by itself when I wanted it to stay on 4G. The only way I could get the phone to stay on 4G was to 'forget' my home network.
All is well now. Weird huh?

The Rezound has a poor shield on the 4g radio chip which causes interference in music. So, logically if stuff can get out, then wifi can come in and mess it up.
Dude read what I said and it will never automatically turn on again.
That's the reason it kept automatically turning it on. And if u haven't done what I said then regardless of you thinking its fixed it WILL turn on again by itself.

There's no such setting that I can find within the settings and I know which setting you're referring to. I saw it before on my Thunderbolt but for the life of me, I can't find it on the Rezound's menus. Anywhere. I looked several times. I'm pretty sure it's there. I just can't find it so the only way I could get the 4G to stay on and not have wifi automatically connect was to 'forget' the wifi network.

Found the menu. Still haven't gotten used to the four lines at the bottom of the scrern being the menu.
Here it is. Which setting would it be? I wasn't launching any apps when the problem appeared where wifi kept eanting to turn on. I just powered up the phone and couldn't get 4G.

For some reason, when I tether my phone's Internet it works fine for a moment or a long time and then it switches to limited connectivity. No Internet connection on any of the connected devices, even if I reset the connection. Only restarting my phone seems to work.
Using stock Android 4.0.4 and the stock tether.
Has anybody else experienced this? Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Well, none of you bothered to reply to this, so I might as well. After I upgraded to 4.1.1 it seemed to work better, and it wouldn't turn off if I leave power saving off. However, the internet still randomly refuses to work on my laptop and only connects again if I restart the phone.

4G or 3G model? I have to turn LTE off because if it bounces around from LTE to 3G+ on my i9305T it tends to hang. I cant use wifi tether at all when CM10.1 when LTE is enabled, well I can use it but its very unstable. Try turning LTE off. If that's not the issue I'm sorry I can't help.

I don't really know because I don't have LTE at my location, the best reception I get is HSPDA+ which I heard is like 3.5G. I'm not really sure if my device is capable of 4G/LTE. It occasionally switches to E-GPRS when I'm not using the internet. But very rarely (like maybe once in 2 days), the internet just refuses to connect both in my phone and laptop eventhough the data indicator has the green and orange arrow on. When I restart it, it usually works fine. It's really confusing.
Ive read many people complaining about LTE, but does anyone else have issues connecting to 3g? Almost always when I leave WiFi range my phone wont connect to 3g unless I restart entire phone.
Sometimes Ill pull out my phone at random places to use google search or something and Ill have full bars but no internet connection (Yes my mobile network is set to on).
This problem happens next to my girlfriends galaxy which works just fine.
Its driving me nuts!
Happens to me alllll the time. I have to turn off wifi to get my phone to connect to the mobile network. Otherwise I'll be 30 miles from home and still "Connected to Wifi"
I thought HTC fixed the Wi-Fi connectivity issue in the latest ota, or was that just the one x

Originally i had that issue on my EVO LTE. but after the updates its been fixed.
Ironically my GS3 started to not want to connect to 3G after it was in an LTE area..
So i have been using my ole reliable EVO LTE..
