Last samsung phone - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Sadly this is probably my last samsung phone.
Seems the carriers are going the way of locked bootloaders and other things(knox).
Its been a great ride but Sprint will start locking bootloaders as well just wait and see.
Nexus line isnt looking to bad right now.

HTC "back tracked" evo 3d and sends documents to FCC

Are they even a credible site for mobile news?
Could that be the reason for the "delay" if there even was a delay..
Don't cry about putting this another thread or whine about another bootloader thread being made I'm not gonna dig up a old thread to post this.
If this is old new let it die with the multiple duplicate threads by not commenting or posting.

Yeah I checked before posting but since this was posted today I figured it would be worth its own thread
And yeah first time I herd the word "backtrack" on the evo 3d

"Back tracking" to remove the lock on the bootloader was my suspicion the whole time. Begs the question, why not provide an OTA update to unlock it? This is going to be the longest 3 weeks ever

I was thinking it would be a OTA updated but I guess they literally unboxed hundreds of thousands of phones to do what we wanted them to do...
We win the bootloader battle but lose to the waiting game ..

Idk, I have a hard time believing they unboxed every phone to update its bootloader, but I guess we will know when our phones arrive if that had been the case, I think they'll be locked when we get them... we're talking millions of phones here.

hmm, well its a lot of phones... its not like its just a 5,000 phones (which is a lot all in itself)
and as far as dates go, that **** can get silly, the galaxy s vibrant was a bit screwed up for some people, volume rocker wasn't helping us get to recovery like it was supposed too.. and there was a whole big date time of frame where people thought it was the issue, and the dates were really odd.. def more than a week or two old before they were received.
Yeah I'm not saying the manufactured dates are all correct I also remember the vibrant button recovery problem
But if it was suppose to launch the 4th of June and now the 24th its not that unreasonably for them to do it...
When I worked at a plastic factory and a company sent back " bad or faulty" parts we would rework them in days where talking millions of parts...
They have the unlock codes and thousands of employees to do it... honestly in a 12 hour shift a single person could do a few thousand phones alone. Now times that by a thousand employees and a few weeks its done in no time

I would highly doubt that is the reason for the delay and to be honest, no one said the EVO 3d was delayed except for people posting bogus dates on this site.
It is not like Sprint said the EVO 3d is getting released on June 4th. It was all speculation that it was being released the same day as the original EVO and I have yet to see anything from Sprint that says otherwise.

The word "backtracked" meant they back tracked on policy. Before open bootloaders, then locked bootloaders, backtracked to open It will be locked when released, a OTA will fix it OR a "leak". Perhaps it may be unlocked when released, due to the real release date, when ever that is. It was never coming on June 4th like everyone hoped/dreamed. I mean it is just now getting sent to the FCC, you think they delayed sending off to the FCC for a bootloader? lol
Reality Sucks!
Just because they "back tracked" on the e3d DOESN'T MEAN THEY ARE UNBOXING ALL THOSE PHONES. It very well could mean they backtracked their thought process and it'll still be OTA. because it also states the "back tracking effect future phones. So I doubt for fun they are going to lock those bootloaders, package them and then un box them. just to unlock the boot loader. It didn't say that was the cause of the phone not being out or even a delay.
Folks this phone is coming when it's coming. I doubt there has even been so much as a delay. people really need to settle down. Its coming. HTC said so Sprint said so, and the FCC has paper work.

how do we know these phones were all boxed to begin with? more more speculation. Everywhere here just assumes they were. I doubt they box them up 5 weeks ahead of time just to sit around. HTC Sprint want this out as soon as possible (hopefully while making sure its a finished product) so they can start to pay for the R&D

Like I said before I know phones are not boxed 3 months before ... i just picked up a brand new white evo with a manufactured date of 1/17/11
A year old phone and the assumption that is was boxed for 3 months and sat on the shelf for another 3 months makes since.
But i also had 3 g2x's on launch day 4/15-4/25 all with dates close to a week before that.

SuccessFul Bootloader Unlock-How To

Since Vzw is making Motorola (or the other way around) Lock the boot loader here is a way to unlock it.
Easiest way to make sure Motorola sends devices with unlocked bootloader is to REFUSE to buy any motorola devices until unlocked. Also Refuse to keep VZW acct if BIG red makes Moto lock it down. Enough said. So come on everyone. Return all those Razr's and lets force motorolas hand & VZW's.
Something can and will be done about this because android is AOSP. Open source come on VZW & Moto.
Great, or spamming their account twitter, ecc.
Wow, thread title only a little misleading.
well since my aunt Joan, neighbor Steve, lady at the grocery store counter, bartender at the local pub and his sister, along with so many other passionate Android phone owners all want the RAZR and they have absolutely no idea what a bootloader even is we might have a problem.
if lets say a really high number here like 10% of the owners or potential buyers want the bootloader unlocked i dont think if we all stopped buying them it would get it done.
the major majority could give a about bootloaders, custom roms, kernels, or even a lot of them when the next OS update is coming.
we dont see it that way here and i am certainly on your side on this as far as wanting the unlocked bootloader but its not gonna happen with your method unless somehow you get all the aunt Jones and bartender guy and his sister who dont know or care to jump in.
i keep asking myself the same question though and that is that it is no secret at all that Motorola phones are locked tight and the others are locked with paper walls so why in the world would someone who has to have an unlocked bootloader to be happy buy a Motorola? seems silly to me. it is very clear where they (Verizon) stand on this issue and the insanity of people buying them and then getting pissed is very bizarre.
anyway i want it too but i wanted the RAZR more than i wanted an unlocked bootloader or i would have picked another phone.
while the idea is obviously a good one, please don't do it this way.
THis is Dev forum. And your title is very misleading.
I am not moderator here, but I just hope to make my 2cent here.
By the way, I support this idea despite its practicality in the rally.
This ISN'T ABSOLUTELY A GOOD IDEA.
1. Posting a thread with a title like this in the Development area is a really bad thing to do;
2. Motorola already said that the bootloader will get unlocked with the ICS update, where carriers are allowing that, so, you should only damage VZW (after the ICS update, confirmation of unlock/lock) and not Moto. Moto has nothing to do with that, they're only selling a device like VZW wants on VZW brand.
If you want to sell your 1.5L Coke bottle in a store at $1 and that store sells it at $0.50, you won't ever go to that store anymore. Noone said to that store that they could sell it at $0.50.
VZW has a good reason to not unlock the bootloader: if it's locked you will have to pay for WiFi tethering, so, unlocked BL -> less money for them. Okay, it isn't so good to make you to pay to use an OS function, but anyway, that's it.
And I repeat, Motorola is doing it right and they're about to give us (surely at least retail devices) a solution for unlocking the bootloader: if you press them for something they can't decide on, you'll make the situation to get poor and you surely won't have the bootloader unlock.
Talk without harassment etc to them. There's no reason to get angry because they said prior selling the RAZR that the bootloader will be unlocked only if the carrier that is selling it is okay with that thing.
And MOD, PLEASE, move this thread in General. Thanks.
Usually I'm pretty tolerant... But damn you, OP!

Locked Bootloader
It is my understanding that the locked bootloader only prevents custom kernels. You can still root, rom, and overclock with it locked. I believe everyone is missing the point. These are "phones" before anything. No other phone compant has a radio to compete with Moto. If you don't like blur, root and either freeze the blur or flash a rom. I personally could care less what a phone boasts if it won't perform it's main functions.
This is just as stupid as your post about this in another thread. 95% of Droid razr owners don't even know what a boot loader is. Even if all of xda returned their phones to Verizon it wouldnt even make a sliver of a difference.
I was under the impression that Google Licensing for ICS required that all phones moving forward had unlocked bootloaders...

Easily the stupidest thread ever.
Everyone is entitled to have opinions and own ideas and are feel to express it here at XDA as long as it does not break any Forum & Marketplace Rules
What definetively is against forum rules, is attacking other users.
I am closing this thread down because nothing productive is coming from this, and is only leading for users to break forum rules. however, for those of you who are insulting other users, one more time and for the last time, watch your step, we would not hesitate on infracting or even banning users who break forum rules.

I figured this would happen sooner than later which is why I was going to pick one up tomorrow morning, but the night before is BS.
This is like the Rezound all over again. By the time S-Off was possible, I had lost interest and never bought one. I guess I'll keep my GNex a while longer. As much as I want this phone tomorrow, I'll likely never buy it or any other HTC phone.......unless the dev's pop out in the next week or two with an unlock for the bootloader and S-Off, then I'll reconsider. I just wonder if VZW or HTC have a way of quantifying lost revenues due to locking the phones down.

and yet, VZ still wants us to bend over.
That's why I don't say any thing about HTCDev website. Once Verizon hears a device can be unlocked, its game over.
Pardon my complete ignorance. I've only had one HTC device before (Spouses TBolt), but I rooted it when I first got it and rooting instructions went live on XDA. What's the likelihood of rooting the DNA without having the HTCDev site unlocking it. Again, sorry if this is an elementary question.....
I am getting this phone tomorrow and give my S3 to the spouse, but I remember the wait before that phone was rooted, and it was agonizing. A Perm Root method came out literally on the 14th day, my last day to return it, so I got lucky. Do you think this will stunt development for this phone? I love using different, power-sipping kernels on to my devices.....

You do realize that a quality ROM will probably not be out for weeks. Not quite sure what you are looking to do the very first day with your bootloader / root. I am willing to wait a couple of weeks as I am sure the devs will figure it out.
I'm am so pissed, but this kind of thing happens every year when I upgrade. I'm still getting mine tomorrow, and just praying S-Off won't take as long to achieve like it did for the Rezound. Fingers Crossed

Is anyone actually surprised by this? By most accounts, this was entirely expected given what has happened with some previous Verizon HTC devices. Like the Incredible 4G, which could be unlocked via the site before it was officially released, but once the release date actually rolled around, it no longer worked.
I prefer to have root just for wifi tether and titanium backup. Just so much easier to restore apps with it then to try and use each app's backup/restore process.
I'm not looking until Feb anyways, but definitely disappointing.
This seems like a deal breaker to me. I was all hyped up about this but not so much anymore.

What are your speculations as to why this section has minimal activity?

Do you think it's because the phone is expensive? I know devs don't go towards cheap phones, but what is more popular. Strange to see that sites like phonedog have a voting system in the highest rated phones, and the n3 is at the top, yet we at sprint n3, have minimal activity in the development section. I'm guessing it's more because the phone is expensive than because it's not been on the market very long. No, I'm not trolling, I'm asking a honest question AND trying to get more conversation going in this section.
Too bad Calkulin went to att. Sprint performance in his country, finally got to him and he went to HTC the last I heard. His roms were my favorite. I still am thankful there are people out there hacking away for the sprint variant of this phone.
Looks like in the sprint s4 section, they are just starting to remove Knox out of the boot loader... I hope we get there.

A lot of activity on the international side for the N3. Some will hope fully spill over.
I'm hoping it's only because they are still trying to get the OTA and Knox all figured out...
I think it's because the high end phones are coming out too often for everyone to keep up. Unless you have the money to spend on a phone out of contract you have to wait until you are up for a new upgrade. There is only once instance where I saw that a DEV had a bounty thread made for him so he can get the phone and port AOSP/CM.
Someone will step up sooner or later. It may take a little while but we will get some old talent or new talent to start banging out some roms. Besideds, if you've seen on TW rom you've pretty much seen them all. They all have the same mods pretty much so it just comes down to the Theme which you can sort of do yourself with things like Xposed.
I'm cool on stock based TW for now...you know that when AOSP drops there will be the usual issues....GPS, LTE, MMS/SMS...blah blah
This is how the S4 forums were when that phone came out... The devs are just figuring out knox
Sent from my SM-N900P
When did the n3 come out? I've only had mine a week.
The first week of October. So it's been out a little over a month now. I got my s4 about a month and a half to two months after release. Answered my own question.

Community Is Dead

Really wish this phone didn't flop as hard as it did. I assume root will never occur with the remaining variants and the lack of overall threads and activity tell me this entire community is dead before it even got off the ground.
I truly hope not. This is a great device and there are good people working on it. I have had little to no issues with my G5 I would really like to see root for it.
There was much drama earlier on with bounties for root. With lock bootloaders it seems near impossible especially with a lack of commitment from devs from the fore mentioned drama. I hope there can be a sort of peace flag raised if that is still an issue. In the meantime I haven't observed much from developers if they are indeed still working on roots. My expertise is no where in dev but more testing of nightlies. I hope I am wrong too.
These threads are always amusing.
Sometimes, often, things are happening behind closed doors. Devs know better than to put what they're doing out there because it creates an environment for "how much longer" and "whats the status". With that being said I can almost guarantee nobody is working on root for the locked variants. If you have one and want root, move on to a device that is rooted.
That's what I'm saying. So many devices don't have root that have been out for awhile now. What I was saying is the lack of activity for the G5 tells me this ship has already sailed.

Wait a few weeks and then sell it on Swappa or something, get an HTC 10. My wife got a G5 for a buck, right before it all hit the fan with the root rumors. It's a fine phone but I feel bad that she got stuck without tethering since we don't have any other service at home. I held off for a day to see what would happen and it ended up going back to $149 so I said screw it. I'm glad I did, my G3 is still just dandy and I've got a 2-year upgrade still waiting for me if the 10 goes on sale. My wife might switch back to her S4 if she needs to tether when I'm not around.
I don't see this going anywhere contributive. Thread closed.
