[Q] Soft Brick - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have the GS4 (Verizon, jellybean 4.3) , rooted using open1your1eyes0 method. Was going along with out a problem, until last night.
I used no bloat to kill (an backup) a few system apps when the S4 screen went streaky (as of the battery weren't connected well).
I turned it off and rebooted, but I couldn't get past the Verizon splash screen, tried this a few times, then I tried to do a factory reset (hold Vol up/Home and power buttons).
Did the reset, when the phone rebooted, the start up wizard got though one screen and got a message that the startup wizard had crashed, tried to reboot a few times same message.
Tried rebooting again, mainly lags on the V Splash screen, but on occasion will briefly go to the lock screen and then get a message "com.android .phone" had crashed.
I had not made any backups (Stupid I know and this from a guy that as three back ups of his desktop systems), but I have my wife's untouched S4 can I use that to bring this one back to life?
any suggestions?

You can try to Odin back to stock MDK or ME7 depending on your build.

Thanks.
I had found that and you confirmed that was the way to go.
Followed the directions, all went well back up and running again.
Thank you again.

[Q] Device Bricked itself?! :-/ (possibly related to OTA update)

Hey guys,
Hoping someone can help out here, although I'm guessing I will need to do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991072
My phone has been prompting for the last 36 hours or so to do the OTA update which I had been putting off due to wanting to retain root (done with SuperOneClick) and not having time to follow the instructions for that. I had wireless turned off last night, and this morning when I turned it back on it downloaded the update without asking, but still asked before attempting to install. It's been asking me every hour since and I've said 'Later' every time.
Anyway, I stepped away from my desk for half an hour at work this afternoon and came back to find my device boot-looping. I don't expect anyone at work would have touched it, I just don't know what led up to this behaviour. I get the Motorola animation, then the AT&T "Rethink Possible" animation, and then the screen goes blank and the LED blinks red about 120 times at about 3 times the speed of a normal notification and then it starts over again.
The only reason I'm concerned about doing the SBF flash is that this is a SIM-Unlocked device on Telstra network in Australia and I really don't want to loose wifi functionality. Other than that I'm quite comfortable doing so. The phone had only been rooted, I hadn't done the deodex ROM or any mods.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Seems like if it did try to install it failed somewhere not allowing for full boot... have you tried pulling the battery also try and find out if it is running 1.5.7 also try booting in recovery and factory reseting. And also don't you only lose wifi when flashing 1.5.2? I might bw wrong about that though

Sorry, I should have specified... yes, I have pulled battery - issue persists. I hadn't gone as far as a factory reset, but it's definitely less dramatic than a reflashing, so trying that now...
OK, factory reset seems to have done the trick - it was still on 1.2.6, I'll do the update to 1.5.7 with the v2 Root Process now and see how I go.

Vibrant Wont stay on

ok so my (edit) *Vibrant is not booting up...
I press the power button, the vibrant turns on, logo pops up, boot animation, Tmobile animation and galaxy s animation plus sound all happened, The phone gets to the lock screen and within 3 seconds just shuts down.
Anyone know what could be wrong.
Phone is stock, neither romed or rooted. is this a battery issue, hardware or software
Does it boot up when you have it charging? And which phone is it, the Vibrant or the Captivate? Those are 2 different phones.

If you can boot into stock recovery/download mode, just do a factory reset or flash the stock rom using odin

Maybe you have a defective bootloader or phone. If it's still under warranty, just bring it back to T-Mobile and exchange it.
was trying to fix a vibrant for a friend of mine with a very similar problem
after many hours of work w/ odin & attempting to flash different things.. i concluded that it was hardware related bc i made it all the way to stock but it would just shut down randomly
does it give any sort of message when it shuts off? or just goes black?
have you dropped it a lot?

im starting to think its hardware related as well. at time when i boot into stock recovery the battery logo just shows up, the android man with the the exclamation point. idk if up to a certain level of currect is drained the battery shorts out. how can i possibly test the battery??
There is no message or anything... as soon as it boots up to the lock screen it just goes black.
i just acquired this phone. I have a HTC Glacier that i use for my everyday. this used to be my friends old phone and it started doing this, he just got another one and gave me this said if i could fix it i could have it to mess around with. as far as i know it hasnt experienced much rough and tough life. on the outside it looks almost brand new.
So I bought a brand new battery and the vibrant won't even charge the new battery...

sorry to revive this but did you try cleaning the battery contacts?
You probably moved on with life lol

Help! I think I Bricked the phone

After successfully rooting my husbands phone, he accidently updated. I've waited to try and do re-route it now since there's a method of re-rooting. This was my first attempt at rooting ever and currently the phone only powers on to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 screen and doesn't go any further. Here's what happened:
On Windows 7
Opened CASUAL
Received instructions to flash root.
Using Odin I tried I605_VRALJB_Restore.tar.md5, it failed to flash so I instead flashed root66_VZW_stock_system.tar.md5.
This worked fine, proceeded with CASUAL
Flashed BAVBaseline.tar.md5.
Phone began to reset and froze at Samsung Galaxy Note 2 starter screen. Waited 5 minutes no change in the screen on the phone or on CASUAL. After 30 minutes pressed power and the buttons to get into Odin, I finally unplugged. The phone is still stuck at the start screen and isn't recognized by Odin or my computer
pull battery, reinsert, three finger combo into odin mode, flash a full stock odin image(make sure you get a good download or it will fail). section 1 of my guide has more detailed instructions if you need them.
The phone won't even go into Odin. I've pulled the battery several times and tried the volume down, power, central button and nothing happens.

Is the battery dead? Let it charge then try Odon mode again and again. Takes a couple times sometimes

Thanks, I let it charge for a bit and got it into Odin.
Next I flashed Root 66 and followed droidstyles guide.
The phone rebooted just fine thankfully however now it is not able to establish Verizon service. I'm looking online to find out how to get it to connect unless someone has some tips. I didn't remove the sim card or anything. The phone prompted me to call a number, should I do that? I have another device.
Turn it off pun the sim and turn it back on. Let it sit fur a little 5-10. Power it off or sim back in and turn it on

Phone stuck in boot loop unless plugged into computer

Hey guys ive got a problem here. the other day i was at work and my phone vibrated in my pocket so i pull is out to see what it was and the phone screen is frozen with nothing appearing on it. so i hard reset it but every time it got past the htc screen the screen goes blank. and restarts a couple minutes later. also i can get it fully rebooted while plugged into the computer but it still restarts after about 5 minutes of use. i was on the M7 NOS rom with the beastmode viverine kernel on it slightly overclocked. any suggestions?
Thanks.

ive already reflashed a stock rom on it and still no luck
Sounds like the hardware is borked. There was whether thread on xda with the exact issue and I think the op had to get a new phone.

I had this problem. Wiped everything from recovery and reinstalled stock. Finally fixed it. I've heard people recommend ruu'ing and going 100% unrooted, s_on stock. Then, if it persists, take it back. They'll never know it was rooted/modded.

stuck at Tmobile screen

hey if somebody can help me would be greatly appreciated.
yesterday in the evening while in school I placed my s6 edge on ultra power saving mode, at which point the phone went into a bootloop and got stuck at the android upgrading screen until the battery ran out. I got home and placed the phone on the charger until it was fully charged but everytime I try to restart the phone (pressing both power and vol down) it gets stuck at Tmobile white screen.
I have not rooted my phone so not sure what my options are, is there anything I can flash through Odin?

I had that problem too. Reflashing the kernel fixed it. Not sure if that'll work for you. It could be locking up for several reasons.
yea I would gather that flashing a kernel would mean to have twrp, mines still stock un rooted, do you think flashing the latest firmware would help?
