I have a rooted AT&T One and applied the 4.3 update as a ROM, like I've done previously and for the radio update a couple months. My wife has a stock One and got the OTA update. I notice that she has a later baseband version than me:
4T.20.3218.13_10.12.1718.01L
Mine is:
4A.17.3250.20_10.40.1150.04L
Is baseband the radios? How can I update the baseband to the latest via a recovery flash? What file should I be searching the forums for?
Thanks,
Steve

I currently have the following software versions on my Fascinate:
Firmware : 2.2.1
Baseband version - S:I500.04 V.EB01
Kernal 2.6.32.9
Build number - SCHI500.EB01
Will these versions block my ability to recieve OTA updates in the future?
Yes it will. You need to go back to eclair.

OK, I am one of those that knows just enough to be dangerous. So Eclair being 2.1 or EA28 or something else?

EA28 is the latest update of the stock 2.1 Eclair that came on your phone.
If you were to flash back to the stock OS/Software your phone would update itself via an Over The Air (OTA) update and you would end up with EA28.
EA28 could be updated to 2.2 (From Verizon) when it is officially available.
Hope that helps
There is a recent thread "How to restore OTA updatability" in the Q&A section and it explains what you need to do.
I just flashed 3.16 full firmware zip through bootloader My lte is s-off, with lazy panda hboot. Everything seems to have updated correctly. Pri is now 2.97_003, Prl is now 25010 and Baseband is now 1.12.11.1210 but my Build# has not changed from 3.15 to 3.16. Is this a problem or incorrect?
Build number refers to the rom, you updated the firmware

So build # is the rom and not related,, excellent. Thank u for such a quick response. Very much appreciated
Are the ROMs that are available for the Verizon Note 2 baseband specific VRALJB or VRALL4? I did not update and I have noticed some of the newer version ROMs specifically say VRALL4 in their description.
I was in the same boat Friday...never took the OTA and wanted to get on beans8 (VRALL4 baseband). From everything I read it sounds like some people are running ROMs based on VRALL4 with baseband VRALJB. Although it seems to work, the idea of having a mismatch there made me nervous so I installed the new radio when I flashed the rom. Check out post 6191 below...user minazaki provided a great step by step. Worked like a charm.

I just downloaded the radio and flashed it worked fine ..then found out beans updated so I flashed that lol good to go

You're able to run either radio on either ROM-base.
Hi all, thanks for having such a helpful support forum. I just picked up a new Note 2 and it is on FW 4.1.1. I want to unlock and root/ROM and was wondering about the recommended sequence.
Should I first use Casual to unlock, or should I take the OTA (which I believe updates the bootloader) then unlock? Is there any benefit or detriment to using one way or the other? Thanks for any help.

Over in origional dev section adam has the new root, jailbreak, recovery for the new 4.1.2 ota. So if you want stock 4.1.2 with root and all that you would be safe to take the ota on stock then run CASUAL. I beleive either way your reallywanting 4.1.2 unlocked so you can have custom roms and ive seen some of the roms being updated for the vramc3 base anyhow. So if want you could run casual now with 4.1.1 that you have (you just picked it up so im assuming its all stock) and flash a cust9m rom that has 4.1.2 already implimented. cheak out the rooting/custom rom guide and the jailbreak thread and decide. In the end both paths will lead to the same place.
Just root/unlock 4.1.1 and flash a 4.1.2 VRAMC3 rom of choice in recovery...
Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. I thought it might be six of one half dozen of the other, but after recently going through OTA he11 on the DNA I'm really leery of any updates.

Yes, it was 4.1.1 stock. I took your advice and unlocked/rooted in 4.1.1. What is the difference in having a base of vrall4 vs. vramc3? I flashed Jelly Beans and am showing 4.1.2 on vrall4. If I went to a different ROM based on vramc3,would it cause any issues? Thanks for the help and sorry for the n00b questions or if they've been answered a lot, I haven't modded Samsung in a while.

Jelly Beans builds 15 and 16 are on the new base, VRAMC3, which is 4.1.2.

Many sites have a change log of all the changes that vramc3 brings to the Note 2. I flashed a stock vramc3 ROM that VZW pushed OTA. The only difference is that the Jelly Beans developer (beanstown106) rooted it, replaced the secure bootloader and made it flashable. So I've basically accepted the OTA but I'm still rooted and unlocked.

Here's what I did: Stock 4.1.1 VRALL4 -> Unlocked/rooted with Casual --> Flashed Jelly Beans build 16
Now in my "About Phone" setup, i have this: Android version 4.1.2; Baseband version I605VRALL4; Build number JZO54K.I605VRAMC3
The build flashed just fine and it appears I'm on VRAMC3. However the baseband remains at VRALL4, I assume because JBeans doesn't update the baseband. Is there any reason to care about the "mismatch" between the baseband and the build? Should I go through the work to update the baseband, and if so what is the best method? I've been looking around the net and have found a bunch of conflicting answers to this question, so hopefully someone can straighten things out regarding the Note 2 specifically.
Thanks for the discussion.
Baseband is the modem. Just download and flash the zip.

If you look at post #2 in the beans thread, there is a link to the new radio. Flash that and you will be completely up to date.

Had a note 3 but just switched back to my note 2. I am a super noob, but read for a little bit and had originally rooted and unlocked my note 2.
Now that I am using this phone again should I update the software to stock 4.3?
...and if yes how should I do it? can I keep root? can I just odin MJ9 or ND3?
Here are the current phone specs:
4.1.2
baseband version: I605VRAMC3
Kernel version: 3.0.31
rooted and bootloader unlocked (i think I used casual)
crm recovery 6.0.3.0
OTA updates fail because of the custom recovery, but I still have to defer verizon asking to update software once a day...which is way annoying.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Please don't take any OTA updates. You could lock your phone for life.
@theomms
It’s good that you didn’t successfully take the 4.3 stock OTA from Verizon, because it would have locked your bootloader and there's currently no method to unlock it. If you just want to stay on rooted stock 4.1.2, there are ways to stop the OTA notification. A Google search for sdm+stop+OTA+schi605 should give you some help to stop the OTA prompts. I am still on 4.1.2 running Beanstown106's JellyBeans ROM build 22 and I am really happy with it. You can still grab build 22 for 4.1.2 from the link to older downloads on the Alliance ROM's post #1 (Beanstown106 provides a link to his Android File Host where he has all of the older JellyBeans ROM builds. Build 22 was the last one he did for 4.1.2).
If you think you’d prefer to update to rooted 4.3 stock, then that link that Deeked gave you will let you do that and keep an unlocked bootloader. You’ll probably want to update your recovery to a newer version first. The install instructions tell you to ODIN flash the MJ9 firmware, then use your recovery to install the rooted MJ9 stock ROM. I’ve read where people recommend that before installing the ROM, you should go into recovery and wipe data, the dalvik cache, cache, format the system… and then finally install the stock rooted 4.3 ROM from your external SD card. Also, there’s a build prop edit that you’ll need to do to avoid problems with random reboots on stock rooted 4.3 MJ9 — see this post from Beanstown106 where he talks about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49737536&highlight=ro+tima=0#post49737536
