Google Now and local phone search - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Google Now used to be able to play music tracks from your phone.
"Listen to Adele" or "Play Adele" will display a card prompting to play it with your music player.
Recently I noticed that this no longer works. The Listen and Play command returns web results only.
Tried doing a search say "Adele", it correctly displays web results.. If you slide the bottom bar to to the left to get at Phone search, it gives no results found. Even though there is a track on the phone by Adele.
i have 2 music players, Apollo and Rocket Player.
When I go into Google Now > Settings to applications configured to be searchable, both are not listed. I have probed inside the APK of these apps. They have it enabled.
Any help?

Google play music adding random songs to offline availability

I have what I believe to be a strange problem but I am hoping I am not the only one with it. When check songs in google play music to make available for offline play the app also adds other random songs to offline availability. To make it even stranger she I go to remove tho songs the offline play pin is NOT checked and when I choose the option to only show offline music the music shows up but is greyed out however it can be played. I went to the google music storage cache and sure enoug the music is there. I thought I would just manually delete it but with useful names like 1034.mp3 it makes it difficult. (the directory is /sdcard/android/data/com.google.android.music/cache/music/ ). Anyone else experiencing a tying similar? I am running CM9 atm but was running CM7 not too long ago with he same problem and had it as well on stock touchwiz.

Help for Play Music

I'm not sure where to post this, but i'm having a weird issue with play music
i have all my songs uploaded to play music. i listen to them using my laptop browser and ipad play music app
All my songs are also present on my phone's storage,
when i use the play music app on my android phone, music that are liked, deleted, or added to a play list doesnt appear on my cloud, it doesnt sync to the ipad or my laptop browser. (i'm not a noob, i obviously enabled sync for play music)
i'm thinking this happens because android play music app confuse the duplicate music that exist in my phone and in the cloud.
I need to keep my music in the phones local storage because i dont have fast internet access on mobile data.
How can i make google play music android app to display ONLY online content?
currently the only option is "all music" and "on device"

Rydeen DV638A & Google Play Music

So I just bought and installed a Rydeen DV638A in my car. It's an in-dash receiver running pure Android, specifically Froyo.
Been using it for a few days and I absolutely love it. Would recommend it to anyone. It's got a Cortex A7 processor, is very quick and responsive, and it boots up in just a few seconds. It also comes pre-loaded with the Google Play store and has access to most Froyo compatible apps.
I've got virtually all my Google Apps installed. Drive, Movies & TV, Keep, etc. all of these work flawlessly. What is annoying me is this. I have Google Play Music installed, but when I click on it, it launches the stock music app. No matter what I try I can't get it to launch Google Play Music instead of the stock Froyo music player.
Since I have all my music on Google Play, I'd like to fix this, but I really don't want to attempt to root the unit... anyone know what I could do to solve it?
Okay, so I played with it more and here's what's happening now. I noticed that I had 10 authorized devices on my Google Play Music account, so I removed some, and that helped. Now, if I press Google Music, it actually opens Google Music - 50% of the time. The other 50% of the time it still opens the stock Froyo app, but if I exit that app and try again, it works. Weird.
Thinking about setting something up with Tasker. Maybe make it so that any time the stock music player launches, it auto launches Google Music. Any ideas?

Decent Music app for Android Head unit??

Hi all,
I have an Android Headunit which is currently using the default music app. I'm looking for another one that has more functions.
When the unit starts up it will generally run the last running app which would normally be the music app. with the music app it will auto start playing again.
I'm basically looking for a decent music app that will auto start when opened. As well one that has album cover and has the random music function option.
I've played around with Tasker to play the music when the app runs but this won't work when the head unit auto starts the app.
Thanks
i think many music apps can do that, when you open the app the music starts, all you need is to set in the setting.
i search for you online, there's 10 best music apps, but i don't know whether i can put the link in the forum. try this:
www dot techsupportalert dot com/content/best-free-music-player-and-organizer-android dot htm
if not, please tell me i will delete it immediately!!
the players i've tried don't seem to have that setting. The last one was Poweramp which seems to only auto start if headphones are plugged in.

google play music app question

i have a good bit of music uploaded as part of the 50,000 tracks it lets you upload....typically bootleg live albums which wont be on likes of spotify.
anyway...is there a way to make the app only show me the tracks uploaded and not them mixed with whats on my device ?
i don't want to add a .nomedia file to folders as my local music app won't see them then.
i'd just like to have one app for the google play stored online music and another for local to phone music, if possible.
thanks in advance for any replies.
This might not be the way Google intended the app to be used, but if you go to "Settings > Apps > Google Play Music" and clear the storage/data of the app, then, when you open the app again, just Deny the "Storage Permission" that the app will ask. This way, the app won't have access to your phone's internal/external SD card and the Music on it.
This should not affect you being able to download your 50000 songs for offline use, as Google Play should download this to own partition on your phone which it does not need permission to access.
I have quickly tried it on my phone, and it works (it hides my local songs and only shows the songs part of my Google Play Music subscription).
yup...thats the answer...thank you
