Hey guys,
Recently bought 8GB SD card and I can not make SD partition with this card.
But with my 2GB SD card I can make partition and when I open link2sd it prompts and asks me to choose ext2 ext3 etc.
On my 8 GB sd card When I choose partition on recovery my SD card is less for that amount and nothing else. Even when I open link2sd nothing prompts out.
Please help me guys as I bought 8GB card to increase my internal memory more.

Use a card reader and put 8 GB card to PC. With a partition program delete all partitions. Create a Fat32 Primary partition for your files like 7 Gb and then create a Primary Ext3/Ext4 linux partition in the remaining empty space. Both partitions must be Primary. Then put your SD to phone and try. If fails take a logcat may help to resolve problem. And when you remove partitions all your data will be lost so backup before proceed...

So far so good. Now when I open link2sd it prompts and gives me 4 choices. But the problem is that I get mount error for everyone of them(ext2, ext3, ext4, fat32/16) all of them gives me error. I still can't increase my internal memory unless I pass this step. Any further help?

Prefer ext3 file system when creating second partition, and be sure you have created a primary normal linux partition not a cache or swap partition. And try another kernel or stock kernel with universal init.d.

I changed the kernel and still same.
I used partition program via pc made those fat32 partition and ext3 partition and when i open link2sd i get mount script error for EVERY choice.
Am I able to increase my internal memory without using link2sd?
If I can would you like to tell me all steps cause I am a bit confused from reading all random guides for increasing internal memory.
I have once increased my internal memory using link2sd but that was with my 2gb sd card.
now i want to increase my internal memory using 8gb card.
Use temp CWM to create partition then. First in pc delete all partitions and create all available space as Fat32. Then copy cwm in sd and put in phone. Enter recovery and flash cwm. Enter format menu. Select the second partition size (512 MB, 1GB...). Select zero as swap. Wait process to finish. Reboot your phone. Select ext3 or ext2 as second partitions file system. Should work.
And if you have any init.d scripts delete them. May be conlicts with link2sd. U may flash them later if no problem occurs.
Last one if nothing helps look the sd contents in pc with a card reader. Should be two Primary partitions with first one fat32 other is linux. If second partition does not exists may be a card problem.

If the ROM requires an ext partition, I would strongly suggest getting a Class 4 or better SD card. For what kind of partition, read the instructions for the particular ROM regarding filesystem/size.
Thanks again..
Ok..can u pls tell me which custom rom supports class 2 sd card...and which one doesnt need partition of sd card

This is not a matter of ROM. Class 2 is simply too slow, I would not suggest using with any custom ROM that relies on sd-ext partition. Best case will cause the phone to be slow.
CM7 ......i m using it on class 2 sd card .....
Partition Sdcard:
Partition SD: Partition's sdcard for apps2sd (this formats card so all non backed-up data is lost)
- will create ext2 partition (you will be asked for size of ext2 and cache)
just to clarify things,.the backups made through nandroid will not be erased if i partitioned sd card?

If you partition your SD card all data that was there before will be GONE. (Already written pretty explicitely in the text you quoted.)

You done something WRONG. You have partitioned your SD. In what format they are(partitions)and how big is your SD?
CHEERS!
I am using 4GB Card..
First Partion is for FAT32 say ~3.5 BG
Second Partition is for ext4 ~.5 GB..
I also tried other way around..means First ext4 and then FAT32..

OK, but you spelled little wrong(3.5gb and 5gb=8.5gb). Not matters. Try to make NOT ext4, but ext2. And but them both like PRIMARY PARTITIONS.

.. Dude just reverse the partition order... first fat then ext... worked for me as windows does not recognise ext and may be if you have partitioned ext4 and your current rom does not support it (or mount it) it would say damaged SD.

not sure but i have formated my sd card many times. sometimes that tools gone crazy. i suggest u select the sd card in minitools and run 'wipe' first by click in menu partition->wipe partition. than u can format like it should.
btw my laptop cannot read if my sd card partition fat32 + ext4. it asking me to format again if wan to open (in my computer). but other laptop can open.

Thanks to all for there valuable suggestions..matrixloaded and casiocas..based on ur hint "Some ROM does not support partitioned SD Card"...I partitioned my SD card first FAT32 and then ext2 (both primary)..ingnoring dmaged SD card warning..I flashed Coderom v2..and yeppeeeeeee............successfully installed with partitioned SD..
Thanks to both of u...

Hey
I have just bought a new Micro SD card class 10 and created 2 partitions as the guide says(one fat32 and one ext4).
When i open Apps2SD the first page says that apps are on SD and when I click it, loads and says the same thing!
I want my apps on the Internal storage but I cannot move them!
Also swap is deactivated and I cannot activate it!
Any suggestions?
Isn't better to have my apps installed on internal storage?
It's always better to have them in the sdcard so you save internal memory space .
I wouldn't recommend using swap though

If I move them to phone storage, they will move to the ext4 partition right?
I have assigned almost 1GB to the ext4 partition for this reason!
But can you imagine why I can't move them with Apps2SD?

Are you using "Apps 2 SD" from Market?
I don't think this app can move the apps for a ext4 partition (because it's not saying it)
Wich rom are you using? For CyanogenMod you can look for S2E in market, but for stock or another custom roms I don't know wich app should work :/
ps: I'm also looking for a app/script to do that.
Hey guys ,
I have a 64gb SD card formatted to Fat 32 as exfat does not work properly. Unfortunately downloading large files will not work due to the fat32 limits. So my question is can android address NTFS correctly ?
I run CM10 with Siyah Kernel 1.8.
Thanks !

Have you tried using the phone itself to format the sd card? I would suspect it would put ext3/ext4 on it which does not have the fat32 limitations.
The phone would use fat32 aswell as it's made default for the external sd. Also ext3/4 can only be used if you mount the card after every reboot by hand in the terminal/with a startup script => you can't use mtp to move files between pc and phone. I still wait that the cm team apploes the patchs that ext4 will be possible format to be used as on the internal sdcard

Hmm that is a pity as I was hoping to be able to transfer larger files. I was looking into NTFS and using a mount app, but realised I would not be able to use the Backup features in recovery as it may not see the SD card . What a pain.
Actually is there a way to possibly format the SD card 1 partition FAT32 and the other NTFS ? Could the phone (S3) address two separate partitions ?
I've been having this problem and its really ****ing me off. Tried allsorts. Currently using cm10 and tried NTFS mounted with paragon but the fs keeps corrupting and so I have to run chkdsk on it to repair it. Also it doesn't stay mounted. Tried 2 partitions under windows using acronis disk director, the second wouldn't mount under windows or be assigned a drive letter, so I'm guessing that's an SD limitation.
I'm just on fat32 at the minute via guiformat but if I play music from the SDcard it locks up and just stops playing and I have to reboot. Even did this in stock Sammy ROM as exfat. Also tried sd speed increase and tested my read and write speeds. These improved and I got decent speeds so I can't understand why this is happening. Its such a ****ty stupid issue that you just can't play music from a memory card on such a phone with all of these different combinations, its ridiculous.

Hello, I recently saw a guide on how to move app data to the SD card using Titanium Backup and it says that the partitions I make on my SD card have to be between 1GB and 2GB. I would just like to know why it can't be more (for example a 26 GB partition) and if I can create multiple partitions (ext2, ext3, etc.) to store more data on the SD card.

I haven't used Titanium in years, but you should be able to make it however big you want. I use link2SD to do this same thing and I have a 4gb partition. I used aparted app to make the partition. Hopefully this helps some.
