I went and got my phone exchanged at BB for the backlight flickering and the pictures that were on the SD card are not showing up now. They were all there when I first got the note coming from the streak but now taking it from the old note to the note I can't find all the pictures that were there. They are probably gone with the wind huh?

provably saved on the phone's memory and not on the sd card
Yea I was rooted but I didn't do a wipe they never checked. I just popped my SD cars out and walked in the store. They were there before I even got the note tho a lot of them really

I know coming from the bionic, they had multiple rom slots with TWRP. Will this ever be possible with this phone?
Thanks

never heard of it
It's basically partitions out the internal card into however many slots you want, max is 4 I think. It uses 2gb per slot. Then whenever you want, you can go into TWRP and switch between roms.

I've heard of it, as I had it on my razr hd. But I don't see why when you can just have backups its so easy and fast to just be swapping backups. That's normally what I would do when there is 2 roms that I like a lot.

I did, and it was great. Unfortunately it doesn't look like they support much in the way of Samsung devices at the moment. As of mid-November they were working on support for the GS3 but I don't know what's happened to that. Apparently Sammy's partition structures are annoying.
So I'm coming from a Samsung Infuse, and honestly, this phone cannot piss me off even more than I already am. I'm talking about constant resets (stuck power button), terrible GPS reception, UNBEARABLE LAG even with the latest paranoid android, and finally, messed up APN settings which bares the phone useless since I can't have any service on it! So now you understand of my struggles with my current phone. I'm in search for something that I can rely on and won't have even the slightest bit of lag after 2+ years of owning it.
Now, I've been doing some research on some phones (gs3, htc one x, htc one, gs4) And I come here to find out your honest opinion on the GS3 since the time you've owned it. Should I save some cash buying a GS3 or a One X, or are there some sort of problems with these phones that have ticked you off that I should consider paying the extra buck and looking at the 2013 flagships instead?
I would suggest the SIV over the SIII..

The S4 might will not have CM support in anytime soon...
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
OP, if I were you, I'd wait until the S4. Not because the S4 is a good phone, we don't really know. But because I'd like to know if the S3 sources are to be released. Otherwise, stay away from exynos.
You'll thank me later.

If you really want an S3, what about the I9305? 2G RAM! If you can afford a G4 go for that instead, if cash is tight perhaps a second hand G3. Should be a few out there soon cheap, when people have upgraded.

Sv: Should I get a Galaxy S III??
If you can get the S3 for a gooood price, get it and install SlimBean no lag at all stable as rock. Faster then a n4
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I'd recommended waiting for the S4. The S3 is a great phone but at least you'll be future-proof with the Galaxy S4 (in terms of updates, camera, display, and RAM). That's quite a lot of things!

Yeah it's a drawback, one I would find myself very hard to live with, but I would make compromises. I love that my S3 is capable of reading sdcards but I would easily give up that for something that runs lovely aosp as awesomely as the Nexus

I would be probably on Nexus 4 already if it supports USB OTG to mount external drives.
S3 have bad multitasking management, huge delay when you open dialer, mms and galery app.
I have spent lot of hours to fix these issues thanks to xda devs. It is a good phone (huge battery removable, good screen, ext sd card, powerfull) with a bad programmation.
I advise you a nexus one or a htc.

All i'm saying is to get a phone with 2Gb of ram. S4 or even the S3 with 4G is fine. The N4 is subject to different considerations (do you want an sdcard, etc) but it's a powerhouse too.
While the S3 nearly doesn't lag at all, not having multitask isn't fun and you'll definitly have a better experience if your apps aren't closing all the time due to lack of memory. This annoys me to no end and i'm replacing it whenever an oportunity arrises.

Samsung is pushing out a 360mb update to snapdragon S4's that shaves off 0.8gb of "other" storage and allows you to add apps onto the SD card. Any chance a dev could implement these features into our ROM's one day?

The latter.
I'd rather have it native over some directory bind script.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I mean it just makes all of your storage internal basically instead of having stupid restrictions on what the external card can hold. I know the SD swap does a very similar thing of course.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
Using an app called Folder Mount, does this but allows me to move the actual folders not just the apps (Which usually isn't where all the data is anyways). Works for pretty much any app that has an install folder stored on the internal storage.
Some apps I use this for include, both GTAs, Max Payne, Asphalt 7, MC4. Pretty much does all the work for me after the initial setup.
That would be pretty good to have actually.
. If the OP is using the phrase "adding apps to sd card" literally then I am inclined to believe this is nothing like Sd swap or directory binding since i am assuming here you would essentially move the app to sd card after the fact rather than installing it to external straight from the market or anything.

Thread cleaned,
Be respectful of others, if you cannot do that, log off. Not need for it in a development thread.
Stay on topic in here, troll at your own peril.
The article was on CNET or Engadget; they didn't specify if it gave you the ability to download to the external sd right from the market or if it had to be moved after the fact.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
The article on android central said it could install directly to the sdcard, provided the app developer allowed it. That's a feature the app had to have built in.

I'm looking to trade up and exchange my current 16gb to the 32gb before my 14 days is up. What I want with this thread is for EVERY POSSIBLE USER that has received their 32gb S4 to confirm whether or not it came with the ME7 update. This will help myself and hopefully a few others decide whether or not it is in our best interest to make the switch or just buy and SD Card to help us sleep a little better at night. Personally, I like the latest and greatest and the more memory the better. I have no problem filling up space (not intended to be a fat joke). Please post if your 32gb S4 came with the updated ME7 or under.
Thank you!
I got mine yesterday it didn't have the update. Rooted and loked right now.

No new firmware here either. Shows April date for current stuff.
Thanks for the few replies. Anyone else with the 32gig version please feel free to chime in.
Are you getting it online or in store? I've thought of this as well and figured i would do it in store but ask them to power on the device and look for myself first. But I'm sure a root method will eventually turn up.

I traded up to the 32GB, arrived today via FedEx. Did not come with the update installed, but did download it immediately OTA as soon as I activated it. That said, you have the option not to install it once it downloads.

Got mine today and when it gained 4G after setup it tried to download the update.
I blocked it by rooting real fast and doing the following.
Go to /cache/fota and delete the update.zip and then remove the permissions on the /fota folder the update can't download.
Here's what it does.. Both of my 32G came with MDK.. but both of them downloaded the ME7 update OTA when I activated the phones on my Sim cards and got it set up. However it gives u the option to install now or install later. If u don't want to update then hit install later..

Same as others. You won't see the update on them until they get the next batch in. If you are looking to get one , the time is now.

Oh yeah, didn't have the update, got mine on Friday. Although it did download the update, I just set the time to install the next day, then I put a custom ROM on this beast
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Got mine on Wednesday. They were setting it up at the store and I could see the update loading. He had to pull the battery to do something with the SIM card, so the update stopped, and when the phone came back on (he was still setting it up to activate) he did something to delay the update.
The next morning, after having the phone on the charger all night (but shut off), when I turned it on in the morning, it was installing the update (must have somehow downloaded the rest overnight (but the phone was off? ). So I just let it go.
Didn't have much of a chance to do much with the phone besides downloading my apps the first day and setting up my go launcher settings, so having the update day 2,I couldn't tell any difference.
But this phone is a ton snappier than my old phone -HTC Rezound, and loving it so far. My main reason to root in the past was to get the latest version of Android, since HTC and Verizon neglected my old phone. This one has the latest version already and with 32gb internal, I'm not concerned with the bloat...
I ordered a 32GB S4 via Verizon's website on 7/26 and it was still on the VRUAMDK software version. Luck of the draw I suppose!

Some of us want more than just root. If Loki had been patched by the time I purchased my S4, I would've returned it day 1.

How much was the 32gb? I got my s4 16gb a few days ago and it was like $249 upgrade price at verizon store with $50 mail in rebate :crying:
I did my phone upgrade via flywire.com
The phone arrived without the sim card installed.
I left the sim card out
Rooted it, twrp, installed apps via wifi, froze SDM using titanium backup, made a nandroid backup, installed cleanROM.
One can do a lot without inserting the sim card.
Samsung asks to download something initially (over wifi) , and when booting up after performing a data reset. I always said NO just in case it was the dreaded ME7 update
Online order here. It came with it.
