Sony released a new firmware update for the Ultra and Z1 today. I haven't received it yet, have you?
Change log (YES):
- Optimized touchscreen sensitivity, for both finger gestures and writing / sketching with pencils, metal pens and selected styluses
- Re-calibrated the display ever so slightly, to ensure viewing experiences remain bright & bold
- Economised power consumption for longer battery life
- Streamlined Exchange connection for faster email sync, display and download
Source: Android Police
When someone does get it, can they please state their model no. and country of origin for the phone so that we can change our CDAs to swiftly download the update.
Most countries for example still do not have the. 532 update for the c6833.
Thanks

Thanks for letting us know and listing the changelog. I have a good feeling about this update, no more sticky screen I hope. Will be interesting to see what changes they've made to the display too. #StrokeyBeardMoment

I'll revert back to stock now and see if New Zealand has the update...
A good 'update' however doesn't sound like the issues have been resolved.

Well... perhaps exciting news.. I plugged it in to Sony PC companion, and apparently its downloading an update.
I'm already on .532, so perhaps I do get this update. will keep you informed.
** Update: False alarm. No update here either. It just updated overtop and installed .532 again.. bummer!

6833 isn't a US based device. Might be sold by a US third party retailer but the phone is for another region. So you will only get the update when that region has it pushed out. FYI
Sent from my Sony Xperia™ Z Ultra
:cyclops:Some more info:
Sony has announced through their website the release of a maintenance firmware for the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra.
"The update is now rolling out to unlocked models around the world. Carrier versions in some regions may have to wait a little longer for the updates."
Z1- “tweaked the camera algorithm for even better all round performance”.
Ultra - "we've optimized touchscreen sensitivity, for both finger gestures and writing / sketching with pencils, metal pens and selected styluses"
Both devices: "re-calibrated the display ever so slightly, to ensure viewing experiences remain bright & bold
economised power consumption for longer battery life, streamlined Exchange connection for faster email sync, display and download
So looks like we should get it sooner rather than later... keep hitting that update button!! and share the FTF!!
Perhaps the Z1 camera port will enable better images for us too... :cyclops:
I'm guessing this will be the last update before we got to 4.3 or even 4.4 next year..
The update is starting to roll out now to unlocked devices
Right?

I thought so too but my C6833 model according to the CDA actually said USA in the location field of the build.prop.
Got it from a tech press demo in Berlin so not sure where they sourced it from.
Have listed the CDA here in the compilation thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2460015 I'ce since changed it to France to get the .532 update.
No one else has listed that CDA so I suppose its possible?

If you updated the firmware in the US, and have the country and language set for english US, then it should now have the US build number.
Mine was Hong Kong, and now has a New Zealand country number. (although i saved my original FTF) so if hong Kong get the update before New Zealand I can snap it up

Have people only been having phantom click issues with the 532 update? I'm still on 510 and not having any noticeable issues with it aside from occasional random reboots (does it entirely on its own when not in use) but the screen works fine with no random clicks so I've not done the 532 update, if these issues are specific to the 532 update I'm hoping the sensitivity changes they've mentioned fix this.

a) SE never announced officially avaliability of 2.1 in the last week of October
b) last week of October starts in 5 days (Monday 25th).
c) Hold your horses. You´ll get nothing in October.
Anyone in here from UK, using Orange 3G Pay as you go SIM with Mini?
I dont see any updates here in India
There is no new update to eclair...
Don't forget that whilst SE "might" release an update soon, you will only get this if you have an unlocked, non carrier phone.
If your phone was supplied by a carrier and is branded then just as we have seen on other phones, you could be waiting months longer.
Just look at the Desire where 2.2 was rolled out by HTC months ago yet Three users in the UK are still waiting.
October on it's end.Still no sign from SE
be patient... on Twitter, SE UK says that there aren't further delays, the update will be at the end of October... that's this week! I think will be by friday... hopefully!
What major improvements do you expect from 2.1? The only thing why I am expecting it is because spp profile ability in bluetooth. And what do you expect from eclair?
I don't hope nothing special from SE, perhaps the facebook association to the contacts, improving a little bit the contact list and no more else. I think the most important comes from Android 2.1, like bluetooth as you said. Also some apps only are available from Android 2.x and towards. Some people says that it activates the multitouch function... and more stuff that i'm totally sure we'll discover

I think itll change if you flasht US customized unbranded which you can find on XperiFirm (i havent checked but should be there) and flash it with Flashtool.
Z5 compact hasn't been released or even announced for the United States. According to XperiFirm there is no US firmware.
Then bummers, hell have to wait untill officiall one is released to be able to flash it
try Sony installer , see if it finds it, it worked for me
I have the Z5 Compact on its way to me. Plan on flashing the Customized CE1 firmware on it as soon as I get it. I'll update with results once I get it. Google Play should still be registered to the US and pick up on the maps and all from that.
Yeah her voice is just British for turn by turn

Very strange. I have the Taiwan version of the phone, and when I set it to English (American) during setup, my turn by turn was in American English. I later flashed the phone to an Austrian firmware, and everything is still American English. Also, I'm a little confused how the OP is seeing UK websites. How would that have anything to do with the type of firmware he has on his phone? Shouldn't browsers recognize his location by his IP?
I am having a problem with the stock weather app. It is in Celsius but I need it to be in Fahrenheit. There are no settings inside the app so how can that be changed?

I had the exact same problem with the Taiwan version of the phone. Its craziness to me that there isn't a place to convert temperature scales. Such a basic feature. I ended up just downloading the Yahoo weather app, which does the job well enough in whatever scale I want.
I also imported and am deeply confused as to why so many of you seem to be having issues... When you first get the phone during the initial setup they ask what region you are in; all you had to do was choose United States...

I don't think that did anything for me with the native weather app (did't change it from Celsius to Fahrenheit). All it did was insure that my date and time was accurate. Is the native weather app on your device in Fahrenheit?
I did get my Z5 Compact and the very first thing I did was to install the Customized Central Europe 1 firmware using FlashTool and XperiFirm. I also checked off on all the wipe options when I flashed the firmware. Upon boot I picked English (United States) and everything I use has been native to the US. The stock Weather app is garbage and I see no way to adjust any settings with it either. Hopefully they can fix that in a future update. My calendar however still displays the temp in F which is really nice. I use the Weather Channel app for weather anyway so its no big deal.
I think I'd want to keep my firmware as UK because they get Marshmallow first
. Just use a different weather widget.
Oh I remember the stock one IS kinda cool though with the animation. Oh well

It is not set in stone but suggested through several articles that I've read. This is the first I heard although of an exclusion of the firmware update. Is this true that the UK model was the only one excluded? This makes no sense

It wasn't the only one excluded but it did not receive that update. Granted it did the latest 32.0.A.6.152 update at the same time as everyone else, so who really knows. But if you take a look at the Z5 Premium right now on XperiFirm, the Customized UK version is 32.0.A.6.115 while the Customized CE1 version is 32.0.A.6.170.
So in my very limited sample size and recent experience with these Sony firmwares, it seems like the UK gets the big updates along with everyone else (not first), while other regions such as CE1 gets the incremental updates.
If anyone with more experience wants to chime in, I am more than happy to be corrected.
I switched my wife's Z5C voice to English US. I don't remember where but it exists.
I just got mine (from HK). After activating it in the US, I immediately got the message that a firmware update was available. Try going to the regional settings. You can change the voice as well. Mine was changed automagically.
Try changing the DNS settings in the phone to use a US provider? The *might* help, but it's just a guess.

Hi rjpaul,
I have seen great reviews on split screen, extra doze (data saver) and battery life.
Though, I am afraid of some of the negative comments about the new operating system.
By the way I noticed google is following alphabetic orders in operating systems
J K L M N: Jeally bean; Kitkat; Lollipop; Marshmallow; Nougat
Maybe the next operating system will start with O letter.. probably they would name it "google Omlet" haha lol.

Did you update over OTA? or did you download the update from kdz link?
Hey everyone, i recently purchased my dad a new Z5C for his bday from a seller on Ebay. I am a bit paranoid about it though because it is on 5.1.1 and i cannot update it. I have tried doing it from phone settings, and the Xperia companion, but both say it is up to date, and i included a pic of what i got from the Sony website when i checked the IMEI (http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/software/). So am i missing out on some info, is the update not fully out yet, or is this reason to support my paranoia.
On a side note, i have tried installing 3 tempered glass screen protectors and have gotten a large halo all around (air on the sides that wont come out) each time, is this common, do the glass screen protectors suck for this phone or is something fishy with this phone?
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!
Here is a pic of the halo effect I was talking about plus those little bubbles a fifth of the way down. All 3 new protectors have had the same issue.
Must have bought from the same seller, because the same thing happened to me. I got mine today and it showed a message saying it was a prototype device, which is my guess for why it says it can't be updated and Sony claiming it to be up to date.
I am concerned about possible spyware and build quality issues, which is why I would like to upgrade it with a stock ROM ASAP. Sony probably won't help us, but maybe eBay can exert some pressure on the seller to take it back.

Yup, same seller. Did Xperia support mention if the phone is identical otherwise? One of the main reasons I got this phone, other than the size and specs, was the water resistance, which the Xperia X Compact lacks. I wouldn't mind keeping the phone if all that's different is the firmware, assuming we can get it flashed somehow. I'll give the software companion a try tomorrow as well and let you know what happens.

The most surprising thing is that the phone was supposed to be sold either in the Netherlands or Norway (I don't remember which exactly) but other than that it is a normal phone. Thank for the tip! I got the software and all, now I'm just wondering about which firmware to download. my CDA is showing to be 1298-5153 and i only found it under E5803 showing as customized Saudi Arabia , but my phone is E5823. Do i have to download the same CDA or can i just download 1298-7260 (customized Australia)?

Congrats! How did you go about upgrading it? I've been looking for a way to backup the TA/DRM keys before I took the plunge. I think the issue is that the keys are not in the standard format, but I can't verify. Were you able to get the keys somehow?

You don't have to worry about that because you don't have to open the bootloader. I just checked to be sure and I still got all my keys. Follow this guide here https://www.google.com/amp/s/b.marf...flashtool-and-xperifirm-guide/?marfeeltn=amp.
Make sure you install the drivers correctly for the programs, if using Windows 8,8.1, or 10 it gives you special instructions. The flash tool you can get from here http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php.
As long as the software you get matches your model number it can be any country. There was no US for the E5823 I went with customized Australian. If you need anymore info just reply or send me a message
Neither of the two links work for me.

My bad I guess I posted them wrong. Try this. http://www.flashtool.net. and http://www.xperiablog.net/2016/03/12/install-xperia-marshmallow-using-flashtool-and-xperifirm-guide/
Yeah those work. I'll give it a try tonight, thanks!
We got the information by early November, but still nothing happened. Anyone with some information when this is gonna be released?
There was new update for japanese version 2 days ago...not sure if its patch or new version https://xpericheck.com/SOG09/24936126
I ve got US 62 model and the only thing i ve got so far is security update.
Hope they fix wifi because its awfull at least on mine.
nope not even a new security patch
that's Sony guy's
I have the Xperia 5 IV XQ-CQ72 and i got update notification but still on Android 12. no 13 yet.
I have Xperia 5 IV XQ-CQ72 too. No 13 either, but I just bought the phone (Black Friday acquisition). I'm new to Sony family, previously I had a few Vivo phones. So far I'm impressed. It's amazing how Japanese squeeze such a lot of electronics into a small phone, even a 5Ah battery, and everything works flawlessly.
I'm glad that I don't experience two issues usually mentioned in phone reviews - overheating and unreliable fingerprint.
I don't have a chance to really test the camera, though. But on the first sight it looks more promising than I expected. After all, I came from Vivo.

The phone is great, except it kills apps from background too fast. That's a software issue thankfully and can be resolved with a software update.

I've been chatting with Sony support about this and providing whatever videos they ask for as evidence. Hopefully they address the problem since I've given them logcat dumps demonstrating the issue.
I just got info from Sony support today that one of the issues I've reported should be fixed in the Android 13 release due by the end of next week (Dec 23). I'm in the US with the 62 model.
I just flashed the 64.1.A.0.857 via newflasher ...
Downloaded the firmware via XperiFirm.
Device: XQ-CQ54
Merry Christmas everyone ...
I just dirty flashed 64.1.A.0.857 on a rooted XQ-CQ72. No issues so far

For that matter - since Sony openly lets us unlock the bootloader, OFW updates are a full-go for us and won't impede rooting ability, right?

1.- Only for international devices. Sony doesn't allow bootloader unlock for US devices.
2.- As far I know, modified devices (unlocked bootloader) lose OTA. I had to manually update using Xperiafirm and newflasher

By the way, I'm infinitely glad I picked one up in Japan over the US because this scrutiny is ridiculous! That said, I'm not rooted just yet and I'd have to prep a full file (mostly in-phone backup of pics) backup first, so I'm not rooted yet and seems like jumping to 13 first makes the most sense.
That said, I seriously gotta tip my hat to Sony for just allowing us to do entirely as we please with their phones while literally every other brand is cockblocking our freedom. Over the years, I missed having a task killer soooo much to save random background apps slowly tugging at the battery and then all the magisk plugins like ad blockers.
