hard reset without a power button?!?! - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

i have a htc evo 4g that was given to me. but it had a pattern lock on it. i called my friend that gave it to me and tried to get the pattern from him. but he couldnt remember it either bc after the power button broke on it it got another phone.
is there a program that i can use to hard reset the phone?

So I'm not sure if you are referring to the OG Evo, or the Evo LTE. Either way, the pattern passwords have alternative to unlock them. If you fail about 5-10 times (maybe more...I haven't tested it lately), it will prompt you for your email and password. Ask your friend about his default email, and possibly let him enter the information himself if he wants his info to remain private.

You can always plug it in to a PC that has ADB installed and try rebooting to either the bootloader or recovery. Not sure if that will work with the screen lock on but it's worth a shot.

he has told me he doesnt remember his email or his password. he said he has changed emails multiple times due to being hacked. :/
im downloading sdk and adb on my laptop now. and going to attempt to reset that way.
-edit..
i cant get adb to recognize the phone.. there has to be a way to get this to work.

Go into fastboot, then recovery. Do a factory reset, and flash a ROM.

I just realized that. Adb doesn't see your phone? Try connecting through wifi. That's how I usually do it. There's an app
Edit: make sure you've enabled network ADB in developer settings

thats my problem the phone is password locked and i have no email. bc my friend gave it to me and he forgot his email for this phone.
so i cant get past the lock screen. i know this can be done without a power button, ive seen it done before. but i cant remember how to do it. soon as i can get it factory reset i can handle the no power button problem.

the button has completely broken off of the mother board. i have the button, which i might have to fix to get anything done im guessing.

If the phone every shuts down completely from lack of battery, how will you turn it on then? Also, I guess repair isn't an option? Eg warranty and repair center.
Can't your friend recover the email account?

Yes I can get the phone to boot up. But nothing pasted the lock screen. I think my only option would be take it to the local phone repair store. And my friend has changed email so many times due to being hacked he can't remember his email when he had the evo.

How do you still get it to boot if it is off/dies?
And by the way, do you have access to a Linux computer? Linux has absolutely no problem recognizing Android (Linux based). Also, I'm not 100% sure if you will get any computer to recognize it via ADB without having USB debugging checked off in Developer Options.

Titanium Backup (ROOT) has a boot to recovery option, that should give you access to adb and/or fastboot.

He can't get past the lock screen password. Read the OP. Sorry to be too blunt.

If it's on the lock screen, can you get it on any wlan? Unsecured that it automatically connects to? If so, you can install apps via your browser in Google play. Given that the Google account on the phone is accessible from the browser.. That could open doors...

That won't work either. To install apps from the browser, the OP will have to be signed in from the former user's email that is registered with the phone. However, the owner no longer remembers which email is linked to the phone.

HELP, phone stolen, changed gmail password, now cant track

Is there any way to find the location of my phone? It was stolen and I just a dumb ass changed my gmail password right away so the person who stole it couldnt access my email.
Is there any way to track it now since google cant be synced with it??
I didnt install any tracking apps on my phone.......I am running 5.0 Inject Th3ry
Thanks guys I appreciate your help!
did you register for a sense account?
sense online does not work with the thunderbolt yet...
I thought lookout had a way to push the app to your phone to track it?
If you signed up for Verizon's TEC insurance via Asurion, I believe you get a phone finder service with that. Don't know how accurate it is though. www.phoneclaim.com Best of luck!

If all else fails. Call verizon, tell them it's lost. Call back every day to see if they placed any phone calls. If they did, call the numbers they called. Verizon can provide you with that info. Disadvantage of that, is they can use your phone to buy things or make expensive calls. But if you keep an eye on verizon's history, you should be able to control that if it gets out of hand.
One time my phone was stolen and I was able to find the guy that stole it because his dad was one of his recent calls. Turns out papa was very disappointed haha! I got my phone back and he got a beating.
Go to the android market on you pc and install Lookout Plan B on you lost phone. It will track it.

Umm, yes it does. If your running a ROM with it and your signed into HTC Sense. There is an option under the Location settings called Phone finder.
If it is checked you can go to www.htcsense.com, sign in and it will track your phone. I just tried before posting this to make sure.
That sucks but you hopefully had phone finder on

2 minute lag delays and constant freezing :/

Hey everyone,
So my girlfriend just got the LTE about 2 weeks ago, and now there is a real problem. I rooted it for her with s-off and flashed the stock/liquidsmooth rom. Everything has been running extremely smooth and great until today. The phone was in her pocket while we were out and when she pulled it out of her pocket and tried to unlock it, the phone was lagging really bad like a 15 second lag delay on everything and kept freezing. I tried wiping everything and reflashing the rom 2 or 3 times and its still doing the same thing. I'm very "flash savvy" and have quite a bit of android experience. When I push the power button to unlock the phone, the 3 bottom lights will just light up with the screen still black for about 2 minutes until it will light up and work semi smoothly.
Nothing was working so I try flashing another rom from the dev section and the same thing is still happening. I dont want to have to unroot it and take it into Sprint, so any help is greatly appreciated.
Anyone?
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
No need to unroot - Sprint treats rooted phones the same as non-rooted phones now. There's clearly something severely wrong with the phone if you've wiped and flashed multiple times. Maybe run the RUU? If not, go to Sprint.

The bootloader is unlocked, and I can't for the life of me get it to relock. EVERY method I've tried doesn't work for me. Will they take it even with the unlocked/tampered bootloader?
Well I've got the phone to work a little better...But everytime I lock the phone and try to unlock it, it won't respond for about 2 minutes. And it keeps saying "process system is not responding" or sometimes "process com.android.phone is not responding". I've tried fixing permissions and partition SD card. Guess I'm taking it to sprint.
I am pretty sure you can get it repaired or replaced regardless of the bootloader status. Search the General section or the Q&A section. I guarantee it has been discussed, I just don't remember the answer.

If a store gives issues on it just ask them to look it up in policy.

I wiped cache, dalvik, system, factory data. The usual. And tried flashing 5 roms - stock with goodies(the latest one and an older one), miklatte, meanrom, and a stock rooted rom. Tried fixing permissions on all of them too. I tried 2 different kernels and reflashed the radio aswell but no luck.
I took it into sprint today and they wanted to keep it overnight lol, so I will findout in the morning.
Still blows my mind how the phone went from working so great and then 5 minutes later it was completely unresponsive.

Used DNA, no 4g!!

I bought a DNA used off eBay. It came to me with the bootloader unlocked and s off. I toss my SIM card in and it connects to 3g fine, but 4g refuses to even try and come up. Troubleshooting steps taken below:
1. Switched from the sense 5 Rom that was installed to viper, no go
2. Flash the newest radio, no go
3. Try global mode, cdma/LTE mode, LTE only mode, no go
4. Flash a stock rooted Rom, no go
5. New SIM from Verizon store, no go
6. Swap Sims with a co workers DNA (which has 4g), his DNA gets 4g with my SIM but I don't get 4g with his.
7. Try to RUU, it keeps telling me installed software is 2.06, errors out with error 158, no go.
Any other ideas? I might just return it to the eBay seller.
Is there a limitation to using the RUU? Do you have to be on 1.15 everything to use it?

Not sure what that means. I'm coming from a droid 4 which was limited to pretty much just flashing roms, so this is my 1st real experience with flashing radios/kernels/hboots etc. He was previously using it on T-Mobile, but I don't see how that would effect anything. The seller agreed to take it back for a full refund, but I'm willing to try a few more things before I ship it back (unless it risks bricking)
EDIT: I'm retarded. You mean flash the boot image separately? Yeah I tried that with the DNA toolkit as well as manually. Fastboot crashes with the toolkit, and doing it manually with fastboot gives me errors. I think there is just something wrong with the phone. I've tinkered with a GNex before with fastboot and had no issues flashing anything.
Try an app from the playstore that turns off an on different parts of the radio. You can specifically choose just LTE. If it turn on its the software, if not, (obviously) it's the hardware

I had tried from the phone settings menu, whatever one the LTE On/Off app brings you to and no dice. It just sits at disconnected.

This has been a real pain-in-the-butt process, but it worked.
