hi
my phone recently updated to 4.1.2 is overheating quite a bit near the camera... i have read many people are having this issue... i just recently did:
1) changed governon from ondemand to conservative, seems to make little to no difference
2) disabled fast dormancy, it seems to have improved a little
3) installed KH3 modem
After installing the KH3 modem it also improved, it idles at best at 28C, on ICS used to be 25C...
I have also just installed battery status PLUS, it seems the screen is the top in the battery list...
is there anything else i can do?
my current setup:
4.1.2
Baseband : I9100XXKH3
Kernel : 3.0.31-Siyah-s2-v6.0b4+ [email protected] #57 SMP PREEMPT Wed Dec 26 06:52:48 PST 2012
Build Number : ZJ054K.I9100XWLSW
Thanks!
try lower the maximum cpu frequency...
overheating happens because of cpu that working on maximum frequency..

I've changed Kernel to Dorimanx's and modem to Ms2 modem and is much better now In deep sleep, will see in a few days.
thanks

The modem doesn't make any difference, in my opinion. Is the kernel that manages the CPU, and tells it how to behave on screen off. Dorimanx is the best, especially with a pure CM rom

yeah it seems to be very good, i am now testing the "battery" mode and there's also "extreme battery", in fact i noticed that "battery" keeps CPU at 1ghz rather than pumping to 1.2ghz which makes sense for the sake of battery...

Yep. The governor also makes a great difference. (there's lots of them, none of which I know, lol). Thus is the reason I stick with conservative when I need battery life.

I had a similar problem I ended up replacing the battery to a higher rated mah and now its much cooler... not sure if it will work for you but the genuine batterys are pretty ****.

i recently rooted my gt-i9100 with siyah06-0b5 kernel and after that flashed official cm10.2 10/18 nightly build and after some minutes of use the phone was heating a lot and also battery was draining a lot..
is there any solution for this??
and how do i change my kernel to Dorimanx's?? do i need to repeat the whole re rooting process via odin again??

Just flash the Kernel like "Install from SD card".. The kernel itself comes with root.

Hi there
i have my galaxy for a few wekks now and i find battery on CM9 RC2 pretty bad (underclocked and undervolted)
which rom is recommended for good battery life (and works with siyah kernel)
GPS/WIFI/MOBILE DATA/CAMERA must be working !!
thanks for your suggestions
I was using xwlpo stock, only rooted. Undervolted -25 and set cpu to 800 mhz. The governor was ondemand. The formula of amazing battery life. Now i use jelly bean which wastes battery.

No two people will ever have the exact same setup, and even if they miraculously did, the likelihood of their two phones coming out of the factory exactly the same is infinitesimal.
So a ROM that someone else experiences good battery life with, may be terrible for you or me.

Try rootbox with dm kernel. It has pretty good battery, but like previously said every user is different and therefore will have different battery life. It would not surpise me if this gets closed very quickly.
hey guys,
why would people flash a custom kernel over a stock kernel?
like SiyahKernel S3 v1.5.1. i see that alot of people use this kernel, but why? what does it give? why shloud i use it?
thank you.
Because it tweaks CPU & GPU voltage by undervolting or overclocking CPU clock ,the STOCK kernel can't do those options that why people use custom kernel like siyah on their S3's.

and that has effect on battery life? will tweaking the CPU voltage give me more speed?
if i install siyah kernel it automatically speed my device? because i dont want to touch anything that might cause problems.

You need to read each kernels description and decide for yourself . No other way but try .
More speed = less battery = Epstein's 3rd law .

custom kernel normally being enhanced and develop by well known developer so that we can have the best performance of our beloved smartphone.. normally it will be pre root so by flashing custom kernel is easier way to root our phone

Not always true... I would use my Captivate with a stock battery at a stable 1.8GHz and a sorta unstable for daily usage 1.92GHz and could get over my stock battery usage...
With a custom kernel you can also change the governor and add other functionality. Often battery life / speed is improved without over clocking or undervolting by tweaking the way kern works
My suggestion is that you do some more reading into each of the kernels and see what they have to offer. Until then, the stick with stock.

Indeed, eargasm is just amazing for the soundquality.
Siyah kernel improves battery life, and just runs smooth.
You don't need to overclock or undervolt. Just flash it, and adjust what you want, or leave it alone.
Hello all
I have a bit of a small problem. I like to run my phone using the Performance Governor but after a while it goes to 1Ghz on all 4 cores despite me running it at 1.8Ghz. Setting it back seems to correct the issue but in time it goes down again.
I believe it is getting a bit warm and thus it hits a limit and the system auto slows to 1Ghz.
Can anyone confirm this behaviour? It never happened to me before but I have had a few kernel updates and updates to the Omega ROM that could be the cause but I am not sure. Is there a setting where I can tell my phone what temps to throttle at?
Also, I assume all this is down to the Kernel and not the ROMs?
Would like some imput regards where to start my search to return my phone to its previous state as a pocket heater.
Many Thanks
Syl

Don't use it. Pegasusq is the only one really working for multi-core CPU's with hotplugging and so on.

1.8Ghz is not healthy for the CPU in the long run and will cause overheating which is exactly what you are currently seeing.
Especially since you keep the phone on 100% CPU power all the time (performance governor) which should drain battery like hell as a side effect.
Also, I assume all this is down to the Kernel and not the ROMs?

This is down to your settings. Neither rom nor kernel.
- Don't overclock (much)
-Use a good kernel such as Siyah
-Undervolt if the phone remains stable
-Use pegasusq Governor
-Enjoy

Hi buddy and thanks for your response.
I am not sure about what you said regarding it working correctly, it gets the best results for any benchmark compared to others so I would be interested in more detail about the specifics of how its not working correctly as I have never been told that. It would be appreciated.
I dont mind the battery drain although I do heed your warning about about longevity of the CPU.
I have been using Siyah Kernel for some time now and I find undervolting a little unstable, for now I am forced to use pegasusq.
Can you or anyone else answer the original question as I still wish to pursue this to a resolve other than not using it.
Many thanks for your time and efforts non the less!

it´s samsung´s based roms related: when the battery temp hits 41C the cpu will throttle. Nothing related with de cpu temp (can be at 80C before throttles).
try CM10.1 and you´ll see what im talking about.
We need a solution for this throttling with samsung based roms
I tried stock sammy roms like Chaos or aokp roms like paranoid android or rootbox and i only got 12 hors of battery (3h or 4h on screen time) and i tried some differentk kernels like siyah, boeffla or perseus too with modified tweaks(undervolting) to improve battery performance, but no result. I also greenify Maps, Twitter, Facebook...all sounds disabled...wifi and 3g not all the time, minimum brightness... Maybe i need some parameters to improve battery performance but all that ive tried dont work like they should be, any suggestion? Or maybe try another kernel? Now I use the latest Chaos Build 4.1.2 and Siyah Kernel with cpu and gpu undervolting
Ps: I dont find anything strange in BBS

chaos may use a lot of battery coz of its unique mods and themes..
for me xperianze and paranoid were good.. LOL actually dont expect too much from battery on an quad core phone..
but try an lite-weight sammy based rom with perseus kernel..
Try a small rom that has removed a lot of bloatware, use greenify app and best modem for your region, test some battery saving apps to find What's best for you.

Do you game much? Fastest battery killer in my experience
I never play games, i‘m going to disable and delete some samsung bloatware, and install boeffla kernel with zzmove-optimized governor and different gpu frequencies if that can help... But i dont expect so much :/ i‘ll tell you...thanks

YOU? dont disable.. just use an new rom
oh come on , with 3 - 4 hours screen on , what more can you ask ? it is normal with that kinda screen time-on
Maybe it's your battery thats dodgy? Have you tested your battery yet? Else get on ebay and get a battery to suit your needs. Saves all the hassle.

I have a i9300 and I really like this ROM, has everything i need except one thing: My battery is going out pretty quickly compared to previous ROMs i used (Foxhound for example).
I want to keep using it, so is there a good way to get better battery life? I'm using the default kernel that comes with the install because I dont know which ones would work with this ROM.
Any sugestions guys?
Thanks!

You can try to flash a Kernel that supports underclocking and undervolting of your CPU like the Temasek Kernel. Also keep an eye on what causes the massive battery drain. You can install a CPU monitoring app to see what`s using your CPU the most.
Also what do you mean by battery drain? Do you make it through the day?

It's not really a drain, but I barely get through the day.. while with the same use i would end my day with 40% with foxhound.
In the normal battery control it says its 40% android use..
