usb 3.0 dust plug? - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

so i never worried about getting liquids or excessive amounts of dust clogged in my microusb ports before but now with the note 3 and the 3.0, larger sized port, i am a bit more concerned that potentially stuff could get inside it...i know they make dust plugs made from silicon but from what i have gathered, i cannot seem to find one made for a micro usb 3.0 yet...has anyone seen one before?
would using a plugo still be fairly unnecessary or am i right with my mild concerns?

I would like a USB plug cause the way I hold the phone the USB port hurts my pinky... Ouch. Lol

Yea, its a bit annoying. My only complaint.

Yes it hurts my pinky too... glad I'm not the only one. My GF said I was going crazy.

I charge my phone wirelessly so I rarely ever need the USB port anyway

If the usb port was on top of the phone, I would want a usb plug cover.
Since it's on the bottom, gravity work in our favor.
As far as the port hurting your finger.. My advice.. Man up solder! j/k.
I hold my phone with my pinky under the phone too, but my pinky is just to the side of the usb port so there is no issue for me. I just checked and with the lip on my cheap Caseology case, it would be harder to put your pinky directly against the port.

plenty on eBay. Have fun.

I honestly never thought about the dust before. But now that I think of it, most of the cases I used like the Otterbox...covered the ports on older phones.

Thanks mutantblack, I might give those a try

What are you using to wirelessly charge your Note 3? I bought the S view case from T Mobile with the built in charger , and my Anker charger fails to charge my Note 3.
Thanks.

There are only 3.5mm port and USB port. You only need to cover those 2. I don't know that's what you asking.

Oh well, i guess i am going too much into details these days. Cant help it.. the Note 3 is such a perfect phone, you cannot resist looking into the finer side.
By the way, 7 dollars which includes shipping for these are kind of expensive.. similar plugs for Note 2 are hardly going for 2 bucks inclusive of shipping. Will they fit?

3.5 mm will fit but not USB since note 3 has bigger USB port. Just wait for the price to come down. What they are charging is just steep. I don't need to use them myself since I really don't care about dust or have any problems with all of my phones but good to protect I guess. Usually I just use compressed air can to blow out the dust.

I guess this will also not work if you have a case on your phone, mine will have a Neo Hybrid.

[Q] Special Cable?

ok so i know that the rezound works with all micro USB cables but why is the one it was shipped with a little bigger? I noticed my Dinc had the same sized port and tried and the cable even fits but it was shipped with a normal micro USB
no idea honestly, but i think it has to do with a more snug fit. this cable doesn't move around in there at all, whereas it did on my inc
so then why wouldnt they have shipped the Dinc with one? it fits perfectly for that also
oh you can still use the normal micros?... that's good. when I first looked at the cable I thought "oh crap why!!!! why'd they change things again!!???" and thought my nirmal microUSB cables were no good anymore. heh... well, the snug fit is nice then. I remember the jack on my Thunderbolt was starting to act up and had to hold the cable just right for it to charge.

LOL dudr I was pissed when I saw that port. But I tried me EVO cables a couple days ago and they do indeed work.

They used the same port and cable on the Flyer. No idea why other than the "tighter fit" assumption.
And tighter is usually better
It is also an HDMI port. Google MHL port

ok that makes a lot more sense than just making it a tighter fit. but since the other end is just a USB is there any difference in the cable it ships with? faster charging times or something?
no. it just has more stuff in it for extra capability. MicroUSB stuff will plug into it so car chargers, wall chargers, and other USB cables will work just fine with the phone. That charger just won't work with other phones.
wait i just looked up MHL port. the phone may have one but that is not what makes the port on the phone itself bigger

nexus 4 q charger

I've been reading a couple of articles about the nexus wireless charger and was wondering is it compatible with our device?
Short answer no. N4 has it build into the phone, there is no such for us
If someone tries the touchstone mod, but that requires a lot of work and soldering, etc; not sure if it would even work either
Ehh yea that's alright with me really just a gimmicky product. Says wireless charging but really it has to connect to a wall outlet for power so really its just a kickstand for the phone. If it had speakers then maybe they would be on to something

But does it charge the device from a distance, or do you have to actually physically place the device on he dock? If it's the later, then it is most definitely not wireless. You may not have to plug anything into the phone, but if it can't charge without coming into contact with the wired dock, what's the point? I already have a wire that connects to the phone without a dock between it and the wall.

In my case it is very convenient because I don't have tons of space at school, so my plugs are behind my bed, desk etc. and the power cord is tough to reach/unplug every time I need to take it somewhere. Also in an office type setting where you don't have to fumble through cords, and you can just let it sit docking and just pick it up and go. Techincally it is wireless, as you don't have to plug any wires into the phone.
I guess it's convenient when you don't like cords but me I would just by an extra charger or a dock and have for home or office use and one for the road which I sorta have already just need a dock.

I find wireless charging is good for keeping your usb from taking so much wear and tear.

Tips on charging port replacement.

Hey there xda'ers!
I just picked up a Titan 4G for $30  I always wanted one, I'm using an S3 right now and I plan on switching back and forth at my leisure.
The problem with the Titan is the charger port is VERY finicky. You have to really push the micro USB in and get it in just right for it to charge.
I found replacement ones on eBay for around $7ish. Has anyone replaced one before? Do you guys have any tips?
Thanks to all in advance!
Anyone?

have you checked there's no fluff in the original one? mine sometimes looks like it's charging, (ie light comes on red), but never gets charged. this usually means there's fluff inside the usb port and a good hard blow, (pardon the expression), sorts it out...

Sadly, the previous owner must have forced a mini usb into the jack or something, since all the pins are bent in. Or, it may have been dropped on the charger port while plugged in. All in all, the phone is in great shape for what I paid for it, as I always had a fascination with WP7.
I got a quote for $60-$70 to have the new USB port installed since it has to be soldered.
Even still, I plan on keeping it and ordering a back up battery charger from eBay since the phone is easily a 8/10 condition wise and I have already unlocked it :good:

USB cable

This will probably sound daft, but I've mixed up the USB cable of my N4 and N10. I know which adapter is which, so I don't think it really matters with the cables themselves, but please humor me.
One cable has the USB insignia on both plugs; the other is blank. Could someone take a quick peek at theirs and tell me which is the N10's? Thanks.

Benefit of magnetic charger?

I have pre-ordered the Xperia Z2 here in the UK and it does not come with the magnetic charger. So before I buy one, I wanted to know what the actual benefit or pro's of having a magnetic charger?

The only benefit is that the phone can be charged without open the flap cover on the top left of your phone. The magnetic charger also avoids damaging the USB port in the long run.
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk 2
I would also add its probably much quicker to dock it than open the flap and pop in the cable
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
+1 for not having to open flaps. I also like the idea of the phone not flying off a table when someone or a pet trips on the cable, and that the magnetic one should just detach easily.

i have the magnetic lead, and altho it does detach easily if cord gets pulled it will still move the phone a bit, so dont leave it near the edge of table lol
I personally think these chargers are a complete waste of money and pretty much rubbish. Cheaply made, horrible fit. I use them on several Xperia phones and one's phone never gets fully charged at a hundred percent with them. If not opening the flap is the only reason you buy these charger , Sony is laughing at you.

i'm not sure how did u come to that conclusion.
I have been on magnetic cable since day1.
And Sony's original magnetic cable may i add. It is solid and well built and excellent fit on the strong magnet.
It charges to 100% as it should in the same amount of time as any usb cables.
and the reason why i have this cable both at home and office is so I dont have to open the flaps.
I used to have a Z and opening and closing the flaps is really a hassle.
not to mention that the rubber seals at the flaps get worn out over time
If any recommendation is needed, go get yourself the original Sony magnetic cables, and not third parties.
Saw many horrible reviews on third parties cables, as with shook187 input above, poorly made, took long time to charge etc

Do you know where to get original Sony cables? From what I can tell, Sony doesn't sell them separately, only as a part of their docks. It's unknown if the cables you get from other sources are official.

The biggest benefit would be you never have to open the flaps when charging the device. That'll prevent the waterproofing from wearing out as easily, though Sony claims the flaps should last throughout the life time of the device.
Anyway I've been using the magnetic cable since day 1 and have had no problems at all. I'm using the official cable which is strong enough for you to pickup and use the phone while charging. It'll still detach or "rock" about if you move it but it's no big deal.

There's no such thing as a "Original" or "Genuine" magnetic charging cable from Sony, they're all 3rd party, the boxes are fake.
If the accessory is not listed on sonymobile.com then it's not genuine.
