Hi everyone! I am very new to android development and am basically learning as I go to see Miui, my favorite Rom running at full capacity on my atrix HD, as interest in the rom is very high, but interest in developing the rom is very low. So it;s left to me, an admitted noob, to see it done.
My question is, how do I cleanly integrate a zip file into a rom? Specifically I want to integrate Jeeko's pureperformances X zip into my rom. Miui on the atrix HD is very very bad for performance and battery life, but after flashing pureperformances X gold edition it works perfectly. I'd like to integrate it into the rom so that the extra step is no longer involved. I have asked Jeeko himself, but have recieved no answer, and without knowing him personally or sharing any development devices with him, I don't even know if he is active any longer. If someone could at least point me in the right direction to some information it would be greatly appreciated, as googling for days has led me nowhere. I have tried simply adding it to the zip file drag and drop style, but my users have reported that the current version has introduced more bugs than it has fixed. Any information would be awesome. Thanks guys!
Don't know what this is exactly but it may be as simple as adding it into your ROM and changing updater-script accordingly. You should look into how this mod is installed (what is added/changed and how its done)

So basically the meta-inf scripts need to be integrated together? (I could be wording that wrong, but I am only just now looking into how all that works. Do I have the gyst of it?)
Well not the update-binary, use the one from the ROM, and then add in the pieces from the updater-script in the mod to the one in the ROM and place files appropriately.
Now this won't always work as it depends on what the mod does and how it does it, if you get stuck feel free to post both updater-scripts and list the contents of mod and I can have a look when I'm near a PC, but for now try it yourself but make a nandroid first

Okay, yea that was basically what I was envisioning. I have absolutely no experience with the updater scripts and such, so I just don't know how to phrase it yet, but from what I've read so far that was what I expected. Basically the mod adds a bunch of optimizations to battery life and performance. A lot of build.prop modifications, which of course I could do manually, but the rest of the "engine" as he calls it might as well be magic to my knowledge lol.
Here is a link to the page if you'd like to read about it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2360670. It really does help a lot. It is definitely not snake oil. I've had users going from 6 hours of battery life to 19 simply by flashing this mod. I'd just like to integrate it into the rom so that it's transparent to the user, and one less step. (and jeeko himself is cool with it, he gives permission in his thread). I will definitely give it a try myself before asking you to take a look at it for me, as this is a learning experience for me as much as anything else. Thanks a lot for the sense of direction!
Yeah no worries, the build.prop is easy to edit as you noted, just do it in Linux or notepad++ if using windows. Same goes for the updater-script
Check my threads for a link on making update.zips, its not finished (as I'm lazy er busy) but it may help a bit
You'll have to see if the other files the mod adds/changes can be simply done in the updater-script or not, more than likely they can
Best of luck!

Ok, this is my first attempt to give something back to the wonderfull community that is XDA, so please take it easy on me.
First things first, ALL credit goes to evilisto for the original mod and how-to. All I did was apply it to our 3D's and made it flashable. You can find his thread and how-to HERE.
This will make the lockscreen have three ripples instead of the regular one. Here is a video of my setup running AOKP:
The mod replaces your framework.jar and framework-res.apk, so if you have any custom edits, this will erase those. PLEASE make a backup of these two files or nandroid before flashing. You shouldn't have any trouble, but I have to say it just in case. As always I am NOT responsible for any damage you occur from flashing these.
Now since this relies on framework-res.apk, it will be different for almost every rom, or version of said rom. So far the ones I have done are:
JoelZ9614's latest AOKP rom: DOWNLOAD
JoelZ9614's latest CM9 rom: DOWNLOAD
aaronpoweruser's latest AOKP build from HERE: DOWNLOAD
toastcfh's newest CM9 build: DOWNLOAD
I cannot and will not post the link to the build(not mine to give). but you can always visit IRC and see.
So please tell me if things work or don't. and if there is another ICS build that you are using that I didn't list, let me know and I'll see if I can pump one out for you.
I really hate to bump my own thread, but I'm assuming the people that have tried this(if any) got it to work ok?

Depends on which version you have, can you upload your framework-res.apk, and framework.jar? That way I know it will work for you. And if you could tell me which build you are running.

[MOD][For i717 LE2/LF5/LF6 ROMS] -phMOD- (Beta2 6/5/2012) Adds most SGS3 "Stuff"
phMOD beta2 for ANY rooted and deodexed LE2/LF5/LF6-based i717 ROM
This will NOT work on the stock Official LF6 build that comes directly from AT&T -- rooted or otherwise.
This will NOT work on CM9, AOKP, or any other AOSP-based roms.
Download CWM flashable zip (277MB) from Dev-Host
MD5: a9734233737e12175cf0f39ff285472c
http://d-h.st/Ct6
What is phMOD?
For those custom ROM users who may have been considering a switch to a different ROM just to gain the SGS3 Touchwiz "stuff," I whipped up this small mod to make it easier to get all of the same functionality.
**If anything is missing or broken, tell me and I'll be glad to make another update!**
**The only thing that requires FJ's modded kernels (those with init.d support) is the higher-res ICS boot animation.**
**Please report back with the results on various roms so that I can add them to the tested list.**
Note: This is a BETA mod, so please be sure you have a nandroid backup handy in case I accidentally screwed something up.
Changelog
BETA2 (5 June 2012):
-- Added S-Note (Official)
-- Fixed S-Voice (different modded version with supporting files - seems to work much better! Thank you Mahmood!!!)
-- Added SGS3 Audio files (notifications, ringtones, alarms, ui)
-- Added SGS3 Live Wallpapers (DeepSea, LuminousDots)
-- Removed FJ-specific system files which "should" allow this to work on any i717 UCLE2 rom that uses FJ's modded kernel with init.d
-- Added EVEN MORE SEX APPEAL!!
BETA1 (25 May 2012):
-- SGS3 Touchwiz Launcher
-- S-Voice (Modded version to fix network error)
-- A few SGS3 Touchwiz widgets
-- Flipboard
-- Higher Res ICS Boot animation
-- Some minor debloating (Yellowpages and YPmobile)
-- More sex appeal
Instructions:
1. Flash the zip in CWM
2. Wipe caches (Cache + Dalvik)
3. Reboot System
**Thank you to every single genuine i717 ROM developer!!!!**
PS: This happens to be the very first time I've ever crafted a CWM script. It was cool to learn how and finally contribute something (albeit something VERY minor) to the community! As a former coder (15-20 years ago! Yikes!), this may have just inspired me to do even more... maybe... we'll see......smali scares me! lol

Because you shouldn't need to wipe everything, flash a full "ROM," and then have to reinstall everything just to get a few new apps and files that actually require nothing more than a much smaller flashable zip (aka a "MOD").
This add-on gives you all of the same functionality while allowing you to stick with your own ROM.
Thanks for the addon, it's nice to have a standalone package!
I am here to learn.
Well this add on makes sense IMO instead of flashing the same rom to get a add on !!! Good idea OP no we don't have to restart everything for it

Mine seems to be working, for now, but it looks like a lot of people on different phones are still having that problem -- even with the modded apk I included in this add-on.
I'll look into it some more and let you know what I find out asap!

It does seem kind of vindictive to point out a specific rom, and show how you can take the unique parts from that and put it into another rom. I realize these aren't massive changes so it doesn't really warrant a separate rom, but like I said, feels vindictive. Thanks for the addon though, it's nice to have a standalone package!
Edit: With quotes like...
"For those who may have been considering a switch to the OnlyOne "ROM""
and
"or, perhaps more accurately, this "Add-on" -- will give you everything you get in the OnlyOne "ROM.""
it just seems like you're publicly dogging the other rom creator

EDIT: Done! Since I think I already succeeded in making my original point, I went ahead and removed those references in the OP.

You could always just open the ROM's install zip, browse to the updater script and remove the delete entries for system and data. I know I have successfully done that in the past to alleviate a "heavy re-install session".
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT MAY HAPPEN FOR DOING SUCH!

You're right of course, that would work. In fact, that's essentially how I made this simple mod (with a little research to ensure I had working apk's and other support files)
Not many users want to mess with cwm zip files and scripts, though, so I did the whopping 10 minutes of work and testing for you!

Can you try wiping cache and dalvik, fix permissions (in cwm), then test the app again?
If that doesn't work, use TiBu to wipe data for the S-Voice 4.0 app, then try opening the app again.
Worst case, I'll make a beta2 to move svoice-signed.apk to /data -- which seems to have helped some people get it to work more consistently.
Let me know!

By the way, if anyone wants to provide me with the framework-res and build.prop files from other UCLE2-based roms, I may be able to make versions of this mod that work for those as well. (doing so may require risky testing, so up-to-date nandroid backups are highly encouraged!)
If nobody provides those files, I may just go hunt them down myself -- but, I'd have to download all the other full roms and updates this weekend to do that, so it would be much faster just to upload those two files for me here.
EDIT: It may even work on other UCLE2 roms by removing those two files from the mod altogether. (I didn't do so originally because I really wasn't sure if they're necessary, and keeping them in doesn't seem to harm anything on FJ's ROM, so I thought it best to err on the side of caution and leave them in).
I'll get something out to test that theory later today!

Multiview functionality is not part of android operating system. That is a propietary technology from samsung, and the applications that can be use in that mode have to be made to do so.

With stock you can only do a small handful of apps (and not all that useful either). But if you use certain Roms (I've been using Jelly Beans for a few months) some come with all apps enabled. I think there is also another way to hack it but probably requires at least root.

Yes, there are mods to do so, or you could pretty much flash any TW ROM under the development section and have all apps available in multi window.

Also, I apologize for the "newbie-ness" of my questions, im brand new to Android.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
I don't think that Verizon lets you add any apps to the multiwindow view. If you want more apps in there, then you can flash a rom. If you like the look of your phone currently, then I suggest one of the CleanROMs, either the ACE, Verizon Special Edition. If you are stock and you don't want to flash a rom, then you can try this mod here.
Personally I would recommend that you flash a rom if you haven't already. There are so many great roms out there that unlock features that verizon didn't want us to have, or other things like the ability to make the phone look more like stock android.
Re: Cant add Multi View compatible apps to multi view bar
Hello, im a new android user (switched over from iOS last week) and I just had one question for you. Im fairly familar with Linux, so the first thing I did when I got my phone was obviously unlocking the bootloader and rooting it. Im running a stock ROM woth the Team Win Recovery and I was wondering how I would flash from my current ROM to the CleanROM VZW SE 1.5. As you can see below, I have the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II. I apologize for the "newbie-ness" of my question, thank you for your time!

I'd recommend picking a rom based on the first posts in the thread for each one (in the development section), and then read as much as possible in that thread. This is my first android phone too, but after reading the Jelly Beans thread (yes all of it, but I'm crazy like that) I feel I have a good grasp on everything. I'm no expert, but I'm not a newb either, and I've only tried Beans and Cleanrom thus far.
Now I just wanna get 10 (useful) posts so I can post on Beans' thread and thank him! :cyclops:

What I'm trying to say is that there are TONS of such tips on this board, but they are already spelled out much better than I could explain, so you really have to put some time in and do the research. You should read the entire thread about that rom, and also read the thread on unlocking all the way through. Everything you need to know is there. It's very rare to completely brick one of these things.
