I just got my 3D today!
Now I am not able to find the best way to root, is there are app or easy way to do this with the evo 3d? With my 4G I would use 4zroot or something like that.
Where can I find CM7?
I really like the 3D part of the phone but cant let go of good old CM7.
And is CM7 fully working? (Other than the 3D pics/video)?
Thank You!
James
What hboot do you have...if 1.50 you're only option is the official HTC method I believe.

All depends on what hboot you have. If it's 1.5, you have to use the HTC method to root, and use the workaround when flashing roms. If you have anything lower than that, Revolutionary should work.

I believe so, check the thread to see.
No. Cm7 doesn't have Wimax or 3D working.
So how do I find out what hboot I have?
phone off - power + volume down

Dang, I have hboot 1.50. . . .
So there will be no easy root and installing of rom's for me?
Not that it's hard, just different and takes a few more steps.
So far this is the best I have found?

Any better ways to root and get a custom rom?
Thinking of trying this rom out.

Because it's annoying having people ask the SAME questions over and over again, when they could find the answer in less than 30 seconds by searching or looking through the guides.

9/10 times you search for something it turns up an answer for a different phone.
Also you see what the question is without going into the thread, why go in it when you are only going to be an annoyance?

Alright so I can root my Evo with a MAc, but how can I get custom roms if my bootloader is still locked...?
IS there a way for me to unlock it on my Mac?
You should be able to do it thru htcdev.com

Is the Evo under a different name? I looked.
Here's how you do it with a Mac. Go to TigerDirect.com, buy a PC, unlock.
In all honesty, had you researched (as you're supposed to do before doing anything remotely risky with your phone), you'd know this answer. Choose "All Other Supported Models."

I've been rooting since the G1 just never unlocked a bootloader, it can't be that hard, I'm just having a hard time getting the instructions.
I'm wondering if anyone has any video of them using a jellybean rom that has recently been made available?

The only way you could hard brick your phone is if your s off and you mess with your hboot or radios.
The rest can always be fixed.

i was scared at first as well with rooting and it took myself a while to convince my brain to do it. but like mentioned above, you cant break your phone unless you s-off, and once you learn how to flash regularly, you wont have any worries of breaking anything

Are there other methods to root our device that has 2.xxx firmware? I just got a replacement phone so it's up to date and therefore the current root method won't work with it.
No there is not and this should be in questions. definitely not original android development.

Not to perpetuate this thread in the wrong section (God forbid), but do you mean that it's possible to RUU and S-Off a stock 2.4 device? My friend just got one, and is stuck with a locked bootloader, too.
Has anyone tried/confirmed that this works?

That's what I'm curious of. I'm reading up on a thread for people that accepted the OTA, but I haven't come across any successful attempt at RUUing back to 1.2 (or, whatever), so the bootloader can be unlocked, and the device can be rooted/S-OFFed. A confirmation of whether or not this is possible would be nice before this thread is locked and deleted.
---------- Post added at 03:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:29 AM ----------
From what I read in this thread – http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2017525 – if you were previously rooted and such, you can use your original unlock.bin from HTC. If your device had never had the bootloader unlocked, and you accepted the OTA, or got the device with 2.xxx firmware, you're screwed.
Good on you, Verizon. ಠ_ಠ

This has got to be an XDA record.. a thread de-railed on the 4th post.. *sigh*
Lets keep it civil guys.
Thanks.
JTAG it, or pay someone else to do it. I don't see why people are so apprehensive. If you're willing to risk bricking by flashing stuff its not a far step to send it out and get it unlocked.
If I ever need a replacement I'm surely going to send mine out. Or I might pick up a riff box myself and start doing it.

the new software is automatically downloading. how do i stop it or do i have to quickly root and unlock the bootloader before it downloads and installs?? what are my options? i turned the phone off in the time being.
im new to android as i left iPhone so explanations might have to be easy for me to understand lol
You can pull the Sim card and root and unlock first. Or defer the update and root and unlock. Once rooted if you want to stay stock freeze or erase the system/SDM.apk and that will stop trying to send you the update.
how do i defer the update it seems to automatically be doing it?

Shut it off, pull the battery and SIM card. Power it on
If it already downloaded it should ask to install or defer. Defer and root immediately.
