I've seen in another thread that someone has the gear working with thier Mega but I'm still having lots of issues.
I've tried installing many versions of Gear Manager and s-voice found on these forums (S4 & Note3) but still it keeps losing pairing, re-pair takes ages, it doesn't notify Email, weather doesn't work at all, S-Voice doesn't work at all. Gmail works but does not display content.
Has anyone else had more success than this? If yes what software versions are you using?
I think most of the issues are purely down to the fact all the apk files were built to run on 4.3.
I haven't played with custom roms since the days of my XDA 1,2 & 3 (yes I am an old school member) so forgive the rather dumb question but why can't we simply put the rom from the Note3 (4.3) on our Mega's? Unless I'm going blind I can't see any 4.3 roms on here at all?

Each ROM is designed to work with a particular device because each device has different hardware. For that reason you can't just load a Note 3 ROM onto a Galaxy Mega. Different devices, different hardware, different ROMs.
There are some rumors so we will have 4.3 for our Megas too. But when, who knows?...
Thanks for the response guys.

My wife's Gingerbread Galaxy Tab 10.1 died and is going back for warranty repair. She is getting a new Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 with ICS becasue she can't "live" without it. When the old one comes back I get it to replace my old Viewsonic Gtab that I put ICS on. I'm looking forward to the improved viewing angle of the Galaxy tab.
Can someone refer me to the best XDA links I can go-to to root the Galaxy Tab and upgrade it to ICS?
First of all, you have to root it. There are many guides in development, but I like this:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15693193
Then in order to have cm9 (which in my opinion is better than aokp) flash this recovery with odin:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14020765
Then download cm9 and flash it with recovery (the various galaxy tablet builds are recognized by "p4"):
get.cm/?device=&type=nightly
Finally, if you want aokp, install rom manager from play and download latest cwm recovery. Then go here:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459287
Remember when moving between cm9, aokp and honeycomb builds, always wipe data prior to flashing the new rom. That isn't necessary for updating the same build, like moving from one cm nightly to another.
Oh, last but definitely not least. All ics firmwares for our galaxy tab lack functioning camera, in case you don't know. The issue will be resolved when Samsung releases official ics for the tab.

Last thing first (so I don't get confused - I'm old). The Tab camera is not a high interest item for me BUT the Galaxy Tab 2 my wife is buying/bought is supposed to have 4.0 ICS on it. Wouldn't that be an official ICS?
Is there an alternative to Odin? For my Galaxy SII I used Calkuli's ICS ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527041 and did it straight from CWM. It's awesome.
I can do Odin but I've been a Linux user for years and try to avoid Windows. I disagree with their business practices of over inflated prices (ok I had to pay a lot for my Android devices but spending money on hardware is not quite the same). I feel similar about Apple but at least their hardware works better but still, they keep breaking the jailbreaks and keeping their software propitiatory.
didn't the GTab 10.1 came originally with Honeycomb ?
GTab 10.1 is not the same as the GTab 10.2 v2, hence the lack of support in ICS roms for the GTAB 10.1 camera... similar names different hardware, different drivers, different everything, just the same manufacturer/OS.
PS: I don't think it is really possible to update/flash new roms within linux (haven't tried it myself), just grab a copy of windows XP sp3 (wherever you can get it, free might be better), install it and update, keep that for updates or just scrap it.

Go to the rooting thread and download the recovery for 4G version. Then download the pershoot recovery for your device. Unzip the 4G version recovery, replace the cwm img with your own, zip it up and flash it through stock recovery. It worked flawlessly for my p7500.
Thanks for the advice. I ended up using ODIN and following these instructions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459287
It's pretty sweet.
The next thing I'm going to hopefully solve is getting the camera choice of the unlock screen. It's not on my Galaxy S II ICS install and on the Galaxy Tab if swiped by accident (on an purpose) it reboots the tab. Annoying. If I can't figure it out I guess I'll start a thread.
I had that reboot problem with aokp. Then I switched to cm and when you swipe to the left, you just get a message that camera doesn't work. And it's better and more stable imo. But anyway, I'm glad I helped to solve your problem.

Sorry for my denseness but what does "switched to cm" mean?
I meant that I flashed cm9 and ditched aokp. Sorry for the confusion!

Can CM9 be flashed without a full wipe? I'm sorry I missed that point in your earlier post but now I understand a little more. I'd rather not do a factory reset since I just spent a boat-load of time downloading all my apps and carp and would like to avoid having to do it again.
The only thing with aokp I don't like is this camera on the lock screen and that you have to swipe to the right. Calkulins ICS on the Galaxy SII lockscreen lets me just unlock it no matter how or in what direction I swipe. Maybe that's just a phone feature that I was hoping was an ICS-regardless-of-device feature.
I guess my not being a tablet "photographer" I don't appreciate the spontaneity that one must expect to have. I actually pick up a real camera and sometimes even put the lens on it, take the lens cap off and turn it on before I take a photo.
I'm afraid that a wipe is always needed the first time you flash a firmware. You can try to flash without wipe and see how it goes. In order to flash cm9 you must have pershoot's recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090289.
Before you flash anything make a backup in recovery, so should something go wrong, you will return to the state you are now.
Oh well - practice makes perfect and I always learn something new. I'm a good community inhabitant and I DO try to share what I learn with others too. I certainly appreciate your patience with me and also appreciate your helping me get past my required 10 posts - developer threads, here I come....
I just thought of a question that is still on-topic.
Does CM9 USB support work. I'm doing what I need by either downloading or using dropbox. It would be nice to just plug it in. If it does then I'm installing it no matter how much of a PITA it will be to reset everything the way I like it.
I have searched high and low about information regarding any custom roms for the Samsung Illusion (verizon) and Galaxy Proclaim (Straight Talk) for a while now. I know there is a root for it finally, but can anybody more knowledgable than myself help a) get the stock base image for the device as this would be a great starting place for basic tweaks, and b) develop a CM7 or perhaps CM9 based rom for this device? I know its not a high end phone by any means but it is a very capable phone for the price and fact that it runs on Straight talks no contract Verizon network. I don't know how to develop a rom at all but I am having rom flashing withdrawals after getting rid of my old Optimus V which had many customs ROMS including CM9/ICS. If any developer could help out with this I know many people including myself would be very grateful

I got in contact with somebody that does custom roms for phones and this is what he said: "I might to if I get more requests..."
If you would like a custom rom for The Samsung Galaxy Proclaim (Straight Talk) as I am pertaining to ICS 4.0 (Google Android OS), then request it through this website: http://www.roms-db.com/contact/
He will only take requests through this form of contact/request form!
I hope that this helped everyone in this forum and those like me that are helpless with this phone on XDA Developers!!

I sent a request asking for and ICS rom like CM9. Thanks. Let's hope more people are interested as well

I've very interested in some roms for this phone as well. It is my first android phone, I've already got it rooted but I would love to have ICS or CM9 on it. I think it would improve my battery life substantially.
Curious to know how development has come with this phone? I'll be picking one up on the 23rd and I bought one already for my husband yesterday. We are in the process of switching from Verizon to StraightTalk. (Gotta save money anywhere we can in this crappy economy)
All I know is that it is not the best phone that I had from Straight Talk, but it is the only smartphone through Verizon

This isn't the only Verizon smartphone that Straight Talk has. In my local walmart they also carry an LG with a slide out keyboard, 3.2" touch screen and 800mhz processor. I purchased one and it seems to get better battery life than the proclaim. I got the proclaim one week and the LG wasn't there, but when I returned it was on the shelf next to it. I haven't been able to find it on their website yet though.
LG Phone?!

Does the LG phone have the Qwerty Slide Keyboard along with a Touchscreen? Is it a SmartPhone??
Just wondering if that is the same phone that I saw on Straight Talk for my area...
Thanks,

Yes slide out keyboard, with a touch screen, and its running android version 2.3.x i think. Its just lower than the version that the Proclaim is running which is 2.3.6

But yea, so guess still nothing on an ICS rom for Proclaim?
I have heard nothing yet as for the ics rom goes...

don't buy the zip over the proclaim!!! The ZIP has half the memory and you can only install a few apps before having run out of space (I have the Proclaim while my sister-in-law bought the ZIP). She wishes she would have gone with the Proclaim.
I'm also interested in custom ROMs for the Proclaim but don't see it happening...I still haven't rooted as some people are saying they have issues with wifi hotspot after rooting.
I can use FoxFi now without rooting for wifi hotspot.
updates?
Any updates on ANY roms for sch s720c? Somebody help! Lol
Root First?
While we're all waiting patiently for some roms... has anyone found a root method that DOES NOT disable the functionality of USB drive?
From what I've read, the root methods so far work, with the exception that afterwards, when you plug in your phone, it shows up as a CDROM drive.

You're not the only one. I've been searching daily and trying different things to see if I could get it to kick in. I tried tricks that people have posted but I'm just like you. I get the Audio History settings but not the additional settings in the OK Google detection area. I went as far as wiping my phone and starting from scratch just to see. Still no luck. I am rooted and am using a different phone running 4.4.3 but the same results. My wife is purely stock and her situation is identical to ours. Bummer

Bump.
I have the Galaxy S3 T999, stock, not rooted, Jelly Bean 4.3, Google search 3.5+, Play services 5+. Audio History is on. I've tried searching OK Google Everywhere and Unleash the Google. I factory reset my phone, and didn't use any data restore programs at all. Play services auto updated, and I updated my Google Search app. STILL no luck. Re-searched the OK Google Everywhere and the Unleash the Google phrases.
Nothing doing. Can somebody help us figure out what's going on?
And here I thought it was just me... I'm glad I found this thread. I was able to get it to work on my stock N7 with 4.4 but can't on my stock Galaxy S4 or stock Galaxy Tab 2 7", both running 4.3...
It's pretty disappointing. I checked a friend's phone who has the same exact phone and software as me but she has the OK Google everywhere option. Oh well I'll sit here and cry with you guys until something magically changes.
Fortunately for me I FINALLY have this activated. Turns out that the problem for me personally was due to the ROM that I am running. I'm rooted so if anyone here is I would advise you to check out this link because it fixed it for me right way. Good luck everyone.

Hey ccw, could you let us know what phone you have, and what rom and Android version you are running?
I reinstalled archiport beta and immediately got ok google everywhere available. 4.3 is more stable for me, but if use this feature enough to wanna put up with a less stable rom. Has anyone on stock 4.3 tried the method ccw linked?

I've just tried it myself, switching back to stock 4.3 after archiport 4.4 beta was getting unstable. Unfortunately this method didn't work, and I think it's a 4.3 thing. Bugger that, as if really use this feature, but am not quite prepared to get a new phone yet. There is an xposed module to get this kinda working, but again just for 4.4.

My wife is on stock 4.3 and she doesn't have the feature either so you could be right. I wish you the best of luck because I truly feel your frustration. If it makes you feel any better though now that I actually have it I only use it to goof around and that's becoming less and less. My family is sick and tired of me saying "Ok Google" every 10 minutes.

By the way, I AM rooted, but do not have a custom ROM
i was told that only touchwiz roms will work with this phone but ive been looking all over and everything i find is old and for 4.3. the note 2 forums seem to be dead but if anyone is still on here and sees this please let me know
so far it looks like these are my choices.
alliance, n3bula, trents.
Just be aware, Alliance has this terrible picture for phone calls of people who aren't in your contact list. It's an image of some girl in her bra.
This would be passable (still dumb) in my teens, but having to constantly hide my phone in public because I'm worried that a random phone number will call me and project some half-nude girl on the entire screen of my phone is incredibly frustrating. I've tried using the xposed framework to change this picture, but haven't had any success. Another way (according to other threads in XDA) is to unpack the ROM and change it yourself. If I'm doing this, however, I might as well change ROMs. Just why, dev? Why?
With that said, anyone have recommendations for N3bula or Trents?
Also, can this thread please be moved to the proper location? It feels weird to have it here, lol.
Hey guys,
I was using the S5 Active when all of a sudden the screen when haywire and then black forever. So I was thinking of buying a new phone (S9). Then I remembered I don't have S9 money. But I also remembered I had the 'ol S5 from way back when lying around. Problem was it was on a T-Mobile plan that I wasn't anymore. I've been on AT&T. So I got it network unlocked, and have been working the cobb webs out of it. It's still rooted, and running Alliance Rom v4, and was my favorite Rom
forever, but it's just getting too outdated for newer apps.
So... Question one. Can I use a Custom ROM from any Carrier now, and it work fine, or do I still need a G900t ROM?
Question two. Are there any Oreo Roms based off of TouchWiz so I can upgrade from Kit Kat and still keep my stock camera, and music player, because IMO there are no apps on the market that compare.
Thanks

UPDATE: Nevermind.
I decided to just go with LOS 15.1
The camera and music player are OK in this Rom. They do their jobs. Sorry for the wasted forum space. I'm sure these questions have been asked a million times. Haha.
Thanks again.
