On a whim I ran a speedtest (Ookla Speedtest app) with my Note II. The results back were fairly discouraging - at best I get about 5.5 Mbps download, 5.5 Mbps upload. More often I get 2 or 3 Mbps download and 1 or 2 Mbps upload.
A friend on T-Mobile's LTE (different phone, admittedly - HTC One) gets 10-12 Mbps downloads.
I've run this test on the stock ROM, Jellybeans 21 and Cyanogenmod 10.2 (10/29 build) - the results are all about the same. I've checked that LTE is selected as the network and done clean installs of all three, no change.
Is this normal/average performance? I'm no expert, but I am surprised at what I seem to be low speeds for LTE. Thoughts or suggestions?
What baseband are you using?

I'm on VRAMC3
I've noticed that I get absolutely astounding speed results at 3 or 4 bars (up to 26 Mbps). When it is at 1 or 2 bars, it is abysmally low (1-2 Mbps at the low end, 6-7 Mbps at the high end).
I'm pleased at the results when I have full reception, but the dropoff seems pretty extreme. Call me a noob (newb?), but I would have thought 2 bars would be sufficient coverage for double digit speeds.

After updating to the latest radio, my upload speeds drastically increased (0.33 Mbps to 1.25 Mbps). I can't help but notice that no matter what my download speeds are, any where from 1.5 Mbps to 4 Mbps, my upload speeds are consistently around 1.25 Mbps. I have also noticed others with higher d/l rates get roughly the same u/l speeds. Are our upload speeds still capped, just a higher cap?

this has been discussed before, there doesn't appear to be a 1.25 cap. many others here have achieved uploads greater than 1.25 Mbps on multiple occasions, including me.
Seems strange that 1.25 Mbps is the norm, regardless of location. Still thanks for the pic, I guess that answers my question.
maybe it is a location thing? not sure. Here is one I just did.
It might just be your area and AT&T sucking on the 4g coverage. I've gotten like... here lemme check... Yea, I just hit 5 meg download 1 meg upload so... Its gotta be your area.

I'm pretty sure 4g isn't enabled in 99% of the att coverage area. So really his 3g coverage sucks. I'm sorry to sound like an ass but I don't know why everyone thinks 4g was enabled last update, all we got was att's full blown 3g that has been enabled for like 3 years that we should have been getting in the first place.

I think its more of an "OMG NEW THING GOTTA HAVE IT OMG I NEED FAST CELLPHONE OMG" kind of reaction. I think its a natural impulse for tech nerds.
Hey guys, I have fios with 50/25 mbps I can get around 40 with my laptop but my note is getting low teens. I switched from a wep security to wpa2 security whichever increased my wifi on my laptop but not on my phones (note 2 and ssg3).
Any ideas how to increase this? Am I missing a setting when connecting to wifi? At the moment, my 4g is faster than my wifi.
Upload speeds are fine... Actually higher than my download speeds. Seems like something is restricting my download speed.
Thanks in advance.

I have FiOS as well and encounter the same "problem...". My chrombook gets above 40 Mbps and my Note 2 gets around 18-25 even standing next to my router...I just think its the way it is to be honest...I really don't know but just wanted to share that I'm seeing the same thing here...it really doesn't inhibit my experience at all 18-25 Mbps is perfectly fine for cell phone downloads etc.

Same set up here...with similar results. I did some research on this as my ipad2 (which is now in a drawer thanks to the Note 2 BTW) wasn't getting anywhere near the speed I would have expected despite it supposedly being N compatible (my lenovo laptop gets 45 Mbps down all the time). Best answer I could find is that not all wireless radios are equal and can't handle the same speeds.
I have a 25 download connection on FIOS, and am sitting in my living room about ten feet from my router. I just ran a test on my laptop and phone via speedtest.net, and got 24/5 on the laptop and 25/6 on the Note 2. Initially I was going to respond to your post and say I am used to the same result you are seeing, but I just proved myself wrong.
When I'm in other parts of the house however, I do tend to see more of a performance degradation on the phone vs. the laptop...I don't have any exact data at the moment since I'm feeling too lazy to walk upstairs and repeat the test, but I do know the falloff happens more rapidly on the phone with distance from the router.
This is what I get on my Comcast 50/15 connection.
Desktop hardwired: 59Mbps down / 12Mbps up
Desktop wireless: 55Mbps down / 12Mbps up
Note 2: 40Mbps down / 16Mbps up
My desktop on wireless connects at 144Mbps, while my Note 2 only connects at 72Mbps. Both are within 4' of the router. Both using the same SpeedTest.net server.
I've noticed a huge difference in WiFi speeds between the different radios, the one that had given me the best spotted on WiFi is VRAMC3. The one that gives me the best speed on LTE is L4. The speed definitely differs from which radio you flash, that's why I wish Samsung would give our devs access to their radio tools and let us build our own. I guarantee if they did we wouldn't see this kind of crap.

Just kind of a random question regarding the really really huge discrepancy between running speedtest on a buddy's iPhone 5 on Verizon vs the Verizon S4. On his, the LTE speedtests are consistently coming back at rates of 30+ MB down whereas using Xtremelab's speedtest on my S4 seems to keep dropping off at between 14-20 MB down.
Is this just something happening with the apps, or does the S4 pick up the LTE signal less efficiently than the iphone?
Try the speedtest. Net app
Using speedtest.net I can get 30+ downloads.

Title says it all. What kind of speed test results is everyone getting and if any tweaks to build props to get there.I am almost always pegged out on signal on edge data which is suppose to be up to 220 KBS but best speed test result i have ever got was 60 KB up and 70 KB down which really sucks. Running evervolv ROM and latest radios and hboot

Edge is very hit and miss... Although 80k-140k should be the typical range, 384k is theoretically the best you can do with Edge on AT&T, Tmo is usually even slower. In my Rez with excellent signal (better than -70 dBm) the best could ever get was around 100kbps down, and in general the specific ROM was irrelevant.
Your EDGE results are actually pretty typical.

it not ony depends on carrier it does for your area too.....as for example just did a speedtest with a tmobile sim on edge and getting 2.2 mbs download and 1.8mb upload....still sucks but better than nothing for dtata on edge

Not to argue with your here @REV3NT3CH, but are you sure you mean Edge and not UMTS?
Regular Edge only has a maximum theoretical download rate of about 473.6Kbps using 8-slots of packet data encoded at MCS-9 (8PSK) minus network overhead. That is under optimal lab conditions and almost impossible in the real world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhanced_Data_Rates_for_GSM_Evolution
Those speeds you are getting are in the neighborhood of standard UMTS or even HSPA
does anybody here have terrible download speeds on tmobile?
i had a note 2 and averaged about 15mbps down and 1ombps up, the ascend mate 2 i am luck to get 1mbps down, and get around 4mbps up. is there something i need to optimize on here, or change any settings?
any help is appreciated.
Chicagoland area
Getting average 20 mbps got as much as 47 mbps
No changes to default settings
Check with tmobile maybe you used up data?
I can't use up my data. It's unlimited non throttled.
