There isn't a ''best'' custom ROM here. If u want perfomance, flash CM. U basically flash CWM via stock recovery, and in CWM flash ROMs, kernels etc.

It seems you are new to this forum.
So listen,
There isn't any best rom for any devices. Every developer tries his best to make his rom best. Head over to development section to search for roms.
See features of rom and watch their screens and decide which rom you are gonna flash.
Whatever rom you choose their are instructions given in first post of thread how to flash , what are the bugs, how you can solve some bugs etc etc. So you have to read that. You can't ask everything.
Now about CM,
CM for ace I is not fully stable yet, it has some bugs but they may get fixed in future. Instructions , download links to flash CM is also given in CM thread or in discussion thread.
You can always go back to stock rom ( if anything goes wrong or you don't like any particular rom ) by flashing stock rom with odin.
Important thing,
Whatever you do with your phone is completely depend upon you. You can't blame developers if anything goes wrong.
I hope all your doubts are clear now.

I told you bro,
You can't ask for best rom here. Go to Ace I development section and choose rom which suits and fullfills your needs.
Latest version of stock rom can be found on samfirmware.com
But that doesn't matter. You can flash any version of stock rom. Not much changes comes with latest version.
To know how to flash stock rom go to General section and refer stickied threads. You can download everything from there. Instructions also given there. You have to search little bit bro. I can't provide all links. I hope you understand.

[Q] Root and custom rom for S5830

Alright this is my first post here..
I am a complete newbie as far android rooting and custom rom installation is concerned. I have been using Samsung galaxy ace's stock installation unrooted phone for about 6 months...after installing a few apps the phone has become sluggish..and battery drains out more quickly I can do a factory reset
but its not practical reinstalling apps again and again . I figured out custom rom is the way to go to unlock the potential of the phone but the chances of bricking my phone has stopped from taking the plunge.
I haven't yet found a recent how to root and install custom rom post for the galaxy ace S5830 ,the ones that are available are 8 -9 months old I believe a lot has changed since then
My current rom is gingerbread DDKQ6
In short this is what I want
1) Back-up the entire factory os( ie samsung touchwiz etc)..incase I screw up I can always go back.
2) root the phone
3) Install a stable and secure rom gingerbread or ics (even better) which is fast and doesn't lag after installing a few apps. without sacrificing any original features of the phone apart from touchwiz
4) a rom which has all google apps running (gmail, android market, placess, navigation ,search, youtube etc).. i noted the current ics roms for galaxy ace don't have the camera working.
Pls help.

Chances of bricking is very less. You can read the stickies in development section. All info given there. Nothing much has changed. So you can use the old posts without worry.
as you new better start with a stock custom Rom . try stocklite 6 or adrenaline Rom. you Will know what you were missing.

For flashing a rom, ALWAYS delete Dalvic cache, cache and factory reset. Remember those 3 and you can flash any rom you want. Delete these before installing the rom, then flash.
Some roms don't require you to delete one of those, but always do just for safety measures and to avoid future problems.
How do i update superuser app?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA
As other users told you you can follow other guides about galaxy ace (even 11 month old, not so much have changed (for example http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145).
Just two advices if it's your firs experience with ROMs and root (that I learned here, and "save" my smartphone til now! )
1) To avoid lag and memory limits you should try link2sd or a2sd when yo'ull root (google for them)
2) NEVER use ROM Manager (or the CWM apk pre-installed in some ROMs) to backup your phone/intall ROMs/MOD/etc (NEVER USE IT!) because it'll brick your Ace!
Hope have helped you... Good Luck

So i`ll assume that you already rooted ok?
Download Clockworkmod recovery from dev section
Install it by going to recovery-apply update then choose the sip file
Reboot
Download AOSP rom
put in SD
reboot to recovery
wipe everything
install zip from SD
choose AOSP rom ok?
but AOKP is still under beta so I don`t really recommend it

another thing is i want take up my stock rom too.. i may shift to stock ROM if i m unable to handle custom..
so the backup of the stock ROM is to be taken before rooting orr after rooting?
Back up with cwm after rooting and after installing cwm. Still, the best way to return to stock is Samfirmware and flashing through Odin (u need a PC and the ace's controllers).
It's all in the forums, just don't rush to flashing stuff without an exit plan.

[Q] Help with new ROM for SGS2

Hello all,
I am a super newbee in this field ( please dont laugh ) ! I apologise if i have failed to see the solution for my queries in other threads
I own a Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 with the following config:
Android version : 4.0.3
Baseband Version : I9100DDLPA
Kernel Version : 3.0.15-I9100XWLP7-CL340913 [email protected]#3
Build number : IML74K.XWLP7
I have already rooted the device with the help of posts on xda. I aspire to put a custom ROM of Jelly Bean in my phone. I have certain questions abt it.
1. Can someone suggest me an apt choice of ROM to suit my current build?
2. will i be able to come back to my stock firmware incase of any problem with the custom ROM. If yes, how ?
3. can i partition my ROM and have to Androids running ? Custom ICS and JellyBean ?
Please help. Thanks in advance.
JB ROMs are still in development stages and need some time to get fully baked.
If you want to try one CM is great.
And you can return back to ICS anytime.
To dual boot JB and ICS you need to flash Siyah kernel.
I would suggest you to flash (install) CM9 for few days. Bcoz its better to be using known stable build for regular use. You will get an idea of what to expect of AOSP ROMS and what are their limitations.
Then you can plunge into exciting world of flashing nightlies (less stable) builds.
You can always go back to default samsung roms if CyanogenMod roms dont suite you. There are lot of custom Samsung rom based roms to choose from with very good customizations.
But before you do any flashing of rom, BACKUP YOUR CURRENT ROM.

[Q] A few questions about rooting and custom roms.

Hi
Im new to rooting phones and have rooted my Samsung galaxy s3 GT-I9300. Im running 4.1.1 on it and rooted it using odin and CF-ROOT-SGS3-v6.tar.
Ive got CWM manager and superuser on it and have backed up my apps using titanium back up and backed up the rom using ROM manager.
What I want to know is can anyone recommend a ROM that is like the stock one but with added features such as multi window and takes away a lot off the added Samsung stuff thats not really needed and also runs smooth without eating up too much battery?
Can I just update my kernel or do I need to install a custom ROM?
Can I install the new ROM using ROM manager?
Do I need to move any backed up apps and current rom off the phones memory to an external SD card before installing a custom rom?
Do I need to take into account the Baseband version (mine is I9300XXELJ2) when looking what roms I can install or does it simply have to be for the S3 I9300?
Sorry if my questions seem a bit daft or if Ive not given enough information. Im new to all this and want a custom rom that will hopefully offer a bit more than the standard one but dont want to brick my phone
Thanks in advanced.

I would recommend sotmax ROM or android revolution ROM which is both close to stock ROM and my favorites. But you have to try for yourself to know.
You can use custom kernel after rooting. But read the op to see if compatible.
ROM manager can install ROMs but only with the premium version if I'm not mistaken. Alternatively just use cwm to flash. Fast and easy.
Backup apps depends on what you using. Titanium backup? Usually backed up apps are safely stored. And can restore in any ROM after flashing.
Baseband usually will be along with custom ROM.
All in all if you read the op in first post of each thread and follow steps. Bricking is usually a non issue. But as always make a full backup before flashing.
Happy flashing

No need to move the backups anywhere unless you're gonna wipe your internal SD.
Baseband doesn't matter, just flash anything for the i9300.
And don't ask for best ROMs, it's against the rules

So does the baseband in the rom have to match the one on my phone or can I install any rom and my baseband will just change and all will be fine?
This is going to seem stupid but what do you mean by op?
To install or flash a rom using CWM do I just click recovery mode in the app and continue from there?
Thanks for the quick response,
first, read the basic guides.

You can't have Samsung features on an AOSP (aka stock Android) based ROM. Its integrated into Samsung ROMs.
For best of both world's you can dual boot two ROMs using Siyah kernel 1.8.9 eg. A Samsung ROM (ex: stock) and an AOSP based one (ex: CM10.1)
Before experimenting copy backups to an external SD card or your PC.
International S III 16GB / Dualboot 4.1.2 Stock & Cyanogenmod 10.1 / Gokhan's SK
Anono ROM gives high performance stability and great battery life
Other than that it is like stock

New S3 User

Hi All,
in need a bit of help here, am planning on getting a new S3 I9300 tomorrow, as i currently own
a galaxy note N7000 and a bit of a flashaholic.
1st thing i'll be doing is rooting which seems quite straightforward. Now when it comes to flashing roms on the GN1
i flash a kernel (which includes recovery), but with the S3 im a bit un-sure, from what ive read you have to flash seperatly
am i right?
I also like to switch between touchwizz and cm/aosp, (currently using HellyBean 4.3 rom) on the note.
Currently on the note if i want a cm rom i flash a cm kernel (do the wipes) and flash the rom. If i want a touchwizz rom
i flash Philz kernel (do the wipes) and flash the rom.
On the S3 does it matter which kernel/recovery i use to flash either or does it have to be specific to the rom im going to flash?
Been reading a lot on here but most roms say be on a working CWM recovery but not sure which.
cheers in advance
Basics read first its all here .

Yeah, cheers mate i've already read that and its the 1st thing i did on my GN1, its just im a bit confused about
which kernel & recovery its safe to flash cm on and which i can use to flash touchwizz. Nowhere makes it clear
Like i said earlier i used Philz kernel/recovery for touchwizz on my note and cm kernel/recovery for aosp roms.
But here it seems you have seperate. So basically can i use philz recovery to flash either cm or touchwizz?
cheers

Unlike older galaxy / note devices, the s3 has a recovery partition, similar to other android phones. The s2 and note did not, so recovery had to be built in to the kernel.
Every rom comes with a kernel (can't work without one). Its completely independent of recovery. You can use whatever recovery or kernel you like without impacting the other. This is all covered in the "understanding the basics before rooting" thread linked earlier

Thanks for the tip mate:good: I did some reading and found that I need to Flash CWM 6.0.4.5 or so. But somewhere I read about kernels. Can someone tell me the sequnce in which I should flash CWM, Kernel and ROM . Probably going for CWM 6.0.4.5 , Gustavo's kernel ( just because read somewhere its good ) and POUND ROM. Do I need to do all at once ?
Do I need a PC to flash these stuff ? I have a PC without admin priviliges so I can just download the files and copy to my SD card.
I know no one wants to feed spoon , I have done my homework need someone to show me the way to do it without me having to go through entire XDA pages.
Please help.

Do I need a PC to flash these stuff ? I have a PC without admin priviliges so I can just download the files and copy to my SD card.
I know no one wants to feed spoon , I have done my homework need someone to show me the way to do it without me having to go through entire XDA pages.
Please help.

I believe that thread is about flashing NEAT ROM. I want to Change from NEAT ROM to POUND ROM 4.4. I guess it should be similar for any ROM. How Do I Change my kernel ?

Yes if its zip then u don't need a pc.
Just flash it without wipe
Dorimax is used for Dualbooting so people prefer that
Gustavo's kernel is one of the best known kernel for kk right now

Thanks for helping me out, Well the main reason for me to flash a Kitkat Rom was because I was not able to login into my skype account using the android app. It says " Incorrect username/Password" . Well I re-installed skype serveral times but same error. The login details are absolutely correct because I can login using PC App and browser. My friend tried his ID and still problem seems to be with my app as I too can login on other phones. Thats when I started thinking maybe this is because of my ROM. Unfortunately after following this thread to flash POUND rom it still seems cant get skype working as same error appears .
Can someone help, Skype is very important app for me.
Do I need to open a new thread related to this for related responses?
