AT&T out of stock: Are they cancelling the G2? - G2 General

Seems the G2 is out of stock at AT&T. Is AT&T going to stop carrying it?

I highly doubt that. Maybe it is due to the nexus release nearing? I doubt that too though

Could be that people finally realized what an amazing smartphone the G2 is and bought it in droves - thus temporarily depleting supplies!

The G2 is hands down the best phone on the market right now, but sadly is not getting the attention it deserves. Seems likely your store just did not order many, as all of the stores in my area still have them in stock. They are also still in stock on AT&T's website.

Maybe this is why they are out of stock? http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57609779-94/police-recover-$12m-in-allegedly-stolen-lg-g2s/

Also are you goign to ATT owned and operated stores, or authorized resellers?
I know, using Verizon as an example, there is a local chain of Authorized Resellers that are EVERYWHERE and look like Verizon stores except the small mention on the sign of it being X company because they use the Verizon on the sign lure. As for actual Verizon stores there's 2 in about 10 miles compared to the 5+ I've seen of this reseller.
So it could be that reseller is sending theirs back if that's the case, but I've been seeing a lot of LG G2 commercials out there so I doubt any actual company is dropping support directly.

VZW to carry the HTC One. Impact to DNA?

If this is to be believed, VZW is going to carry the One along with the rest of the U.S. carriers. That's fantastic news for HTC as they've accomplished (selling the same device on all four U.S. carriers) what Samsung did with the SGS3 which was one of the cornerstones of its success. And HTC really needs some success. It also explains the appearance and disappearance of a red version of the One off of HTC's website.
"It looks like HTC’s One really will be the one flagship for the Taiwanese phone maker. When HTC announced the phone last month, it said the One would be sold at AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile. A mention of Verizon was noticeably absent. However, Verizon will also carry the high-end Android device according to a source familiar with the situation. Its launch at Verizon, though, will trail the other U.S. carriers by a month or two as it winds its way through the testing process. HTC and Verizon representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment."http://allthingsd.com/20130313/exclusive-htc-one-headed-to-verizon-too/
So do you think it'll be offered alongside the DNA or are the two devices too similar?
Even though I went from a DNA to a Note 2 and now back to a DNA, I will be buying the One the very minute it is available for Verizon. How's that for impact?
or just do this http://blog.htc.com/2013/03/htc-one-developer-edition/
If it does come to verizon and if I can sell my DNA on ebay for $600 then yes I may get it. If not then no
I have a feeling the resale value of the DNA might plummet when the One hits. Not saying the DNA isn't an amazing phone, but if you have to pick one of the two at similar prices... The only thing I can think of that would really retain the DNA's resale value would be if yours is already unlocked / rooted / s-off. Considering the post-OTA (and all new) phones cannot achieve this yet, I think it'll be a surge to the price for phone that already are unlocked.

Well you aren't getting a One then. The DNA isn't selling near $600, even right now. On Swappa and eBay, almost all of them are sub $500, some even below $450.

With my ebay skills 80% will sell $600.
20% it wont if my skills fail.
Also who knows what the outright price for the one will be if it does come to VZW.
It has very little impact to me as I love my DNA.
Sure people complain of battery life but I get a full day out of mine usually, they complain about only having 16 GB of internal memory but I use Spotify for my music and Drive for my pictures and most places I frequent have wifi. My 8MP camera takes lovely pictures and I already have a quad core processor with 2 GB of RAM. Speaker mode on the DNA is fabulous.
Also, I love having a pocketable 5 inch 1080p device.
Fyi I got a DNA that was used for a week off Craigslist for 425 with two cases and wireless charger...so remember that eBay will take fees from the seller...I just sold an iPhone 5 on eBay for 560 and eBay took 50 bucks just for the damn sale..and then PayPal takes 2% or something too...so yeah.

That phone will work in the U.S.data wise on Verizon in an LTE area (at this point NJ is almost fully blanketed where I live)....who uses their phone to talk anyway? LOL
And once Verizon implements VOLTE, you could in theory use that phone on Verizon here. So if this was 2014 that phone would be perfect!

depends on if they carry multiple storage versions...iirc there are 16/32/64 variants (though i actually havent seen a 64gb variant for sale) for the htc one
so it *might* be something like 599/699/749 or some variation in there off contract
on contract would probabaly be 199/299 of 16/32 which is what id assume verizon would carry (just a guess)
and dna would probably drop to 149 or 99 on contract directly from verizon....probably 49 or free on 3rd party websites

Same here. I had to list it 3 times too before the buyer actually came up with the money.
On thing to remember if your going to sell ANY phone your not going to make a profit. It just makes getting a new phone a little better.
I will be getting the One I have two upgrades available in October so I should be able to get it in September. I hope thats when its released. The developer edition I think is BS pretty sure guys here on XDA will be able to crack the One without me paying extra.
I found a link that compares DNA to One camera check it out http://pocketnow.com/2013/03/13/htc-one-camera-vs-droid-dna-camera#!prettyPhoto
I'm actually happy with my DNA (understatement) and since Sense 5 will be sent to the DNA the only two things that will make me get the new Verizon HTC One (Probably being named the DNA+) would be better battery life and availability in white other than that I doubt that I will be swayed

Ordering via Amazon

I am planning on upgrading to the HTC One via Amazon wireless, if my unit were to come with something wrong with it (e.g. dead pixels/gaps), how do you return it? Do you ship it back to Amazon or are you able to walk into your local AT&T store and exchange it? Thanks!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I think amazon covers you for 30 days, after that you deal with at&t warranty services. Call customer service. They ship a replacement you send back your bad device.
I've had a couple phones I bought from Amazon Wireless. One of them had a problem so I emailed them via the order info on the site. I had a replacement in 2 days. This was about 2.5 years ago, so I can not say how their current support rates.

Look at it from a business perspective. Both Amazon and AT&T bought phones from HTC to sell to their customers. If you buy a phone from Amazon and therefore deplete their inventory and giving them revenue/return on their investment, and why should AT&T give you one from their inventory, deplete their stock, and get no revenue/return on their investment. You could argue they get it through the monthly, but they're getting that regardless.
There's also a logistical reason too. AT&T can't access/see the order from Amazon(they can see you ordered something, but nothing else) to facilitate the return so they can't verify anything about your phone/order. Further, all returned/exchanged phones go back to HTC eventually and the retailers get a credit for returning them. If the IMEI/ESN doesn't match what was allocated to the that particular retailer, HTC might not accept it back or issue the credit.

Verizon Availability

I called my friend who is a manager at a Verizon corporate store yesterday and he claims that he isn't even sure if they'll have any G2s in stock on Thursday or not. He claims they might have to order them. Has anyone else checked with their local Verizon store? I assumed that every corporate store would at least have a few of these on Thursday.....
Meanwhile I'm playing with my ATT version one already =P, just kidding, I did stop into a corporate verizon store to see if they had accessories already, and the store I went said they hadn't gotten anything for the G2 in yet, and that they werent sure either if they'd have the phone on Thursday..I left and was like that sucks for Vzw users.
I can't believe Verizon would screw this up that bad after announcing in their press release that they would be available in store and online on the 12th.They pulled it up in the store I was at Sunday and it said releasing on all channels the 12th.Maybe they will get their shipment in tomorrow.I don't think it is going to be heavily promoted with the Note 3 release as well as the new iphone release.

I would say the Verizon corporate stores will have them Thursday. I only deal with my local corporate store and they are never in the loop with anything. Just stopped in at the local verizon store and they don't have the Note 3 out (21st)

Amazing, they still only have the note 2 out? Sometimes I really, really wonder if people even try. Here's the most powerful phone out right now and you don't even displace the note 2 that's on display?
Are they just trying to clear out note 2 stock?
Took me a little while to find one. (They lie)
Bought it off contract. The sales rep said they didn't have any more Note 3 in stock. I asked the manager, and they magically found one.
The sales guy the entire time was being an asshole, because they don't collect commission on off contract sales.
Did you ask them? I asked and I received. They had a note 2 on display also.

not to defend them, but there are a lot of Verizon Stores that look like the official stores, but are only "authorized retailers." These places tend to not have the latest phones. I've been in two separate legitimate VZ stores since launch.... both of them had the N3 on display.
That is interesting. I visited two different Verizon corporate stores (not resellers) before launch, and they both assured me there would be plenty of Note 3s available for purchase on October 10. I didn't preorder because I figured I'd have no problem getting one on release day (which was correct). Did you try other stores?

I wouldn't say they don't care about android at all. They paid a ton of money for the Droid license, so Verizon probably wants salespeople to push those over other android phones. But iphone doesn't need to be pushed. Most iphone buyers walk into stores knowing that is what they will get. It's the sheep mentality.

Same thing happened to me, I was told by the local corp store that they had plenty of both colors in stock but when I said I was paying full retail they lied and said they had sold out. So I went home, waited an hour and called them and was told they had plenty in stock. I explained that I was just in the store and they were out, and then was told they just got a shipment. So I go back to the store and a different clerk tells me they have them in stock, but when she finds out I am paying full retail she then says she cannot sell me a phone because all of their Note 3s are "allocated ". Store manager was an ass. I then went to bestbuy about 30 minutes away but they were sold out, then I saw another verizon corp store so I tried it and had no problem. In fact they even offered me a 6gb upgrade plan with a free watch for the same price, if I would give up unlimited data.
Very upset that my local verizon store lied to me and then became very rude about not selling me a phone at full retail.

What a bunch of douchebags. I am surprised that store sells anything to anyone.
I discovered long ago that making a friend at a phone store can change your whole experience. If I were you, I would do some social engineering at the store farther away, and never go back to the local store. I would also file a complaint, either by calling Verizon or via their web site. And mention employee names if you remember them. It may not change anything, but then again it might. Some of those employees may have a complaint file, and yours may be the final straw. At the very least, you will have a little satisfaction of having done *something*.

Well that's just not true at all. And generally Verizon screws the indirect channel of stores and makes new phones (note 3) very unprofitable. They try to put out the phones that generate the most profit and so we're clear is never iPhones (everybody and their mother just wants one) They're not lazy.... They're just trying to run a business.

They try to put out the phones that generate the most profit and so we're clear is never iPhones (everybody and their mother just wants one) They're not lazy.... They're just trying to run a business.

I work for a Verizon retailer. The store never makes a large amount of money on the high end phones. There is a slim margin for profit on the high end devices. We have live displays of every high end phone and we typically get them on launch day. The only exception is with iphones where we get them a week or so after launch. There are several different types of Verizon retailers you can go to. Some are authorized sellers, some are premium retailers etc... What sucks is it really does vary location to location.

Stupid AT&T People

So, went into a local store that happened to be franchised to look at the Padfone X. The girl tried to tell me the phone was $300 and the station was an *additional* $300. I tried to tell her that its 200 for both but she wasn't having any of it. She also tried to tell me its a piece of junk yet they didn't have either a working demo (only a hunk of plastic shell) or any in stock, yet she knows its a piece of junk...right...and I thought sales people werent supposed to bash the products they sell.
Clearly from all the video reviews, they come together in the same box, so this particular franchise chain of AT&T stores are ran by idiots. I think I'm going to stick to corporate stores from now on.

Tell her you know a close relative of hers. They informed you that her kids stink.
Ask her if the iPhone is better
... if the answer is yes , squat In front of her .

Just so you know.. If you went to an Authorized retailer, they ARE NOT ATT PEOPLE. They are not even trained by ATT. Please correct your title.

The big orange sign out front said AT&T. I don't go to a McDonalds and have to argue about what goes on a Big Mac.
Don't go to authorized retailers. Stick with the cor stores. You will be much better off

I went to a corporate store and the guy knew less about the padfone than I did. They also had no working model available and none to buy outright. Yeah, stupid AT&T is right.

I have a corporate store near a Best Buy. The people at that store know their stuff, but sometimes Best Buy has a better out the door price.
This ATT store new all about the Padfone X, had a working model and could barely keep them on the shelves.
FYI, authorized dealers are in fact trained by at&t. I have worked for both COR and Dealer. There is really no difference in training.
I will say that it is entirely possible to run into idiots at any cell phone store. I have worked along side people who have NO idea what they are talking about.
Either way, when I hire new reps, If they are not tech savvy enough to know what they are talking about and cannot learn what they need to in a reasonable amount of time I promote them to customer very quickly.
