Problems with gallery/quickpic....4.3 roms - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

TONIGHT IS THE FIRST TIME IVE ENCOUNTERED THESE PROBLEMS...
I wanted to make emphasis on that first sentence but here's the problem...I've used Beanstalk and official liquid smooth 4.3.1 ROMs and every time I try to open gallery/quickpic the system freezes than reboots..I've stated this in liquid smooth so I'm sure its not a ROM problem. I also religiously clean wipe every time I flash anything so much so I never really have the opportunity to set up everything how I want it...Is this any indication of a battery that's dying ? I just got a ravpower battery about a month ago and I haven't seen any abnormal things happening with how fast the battery drains...I'm only asking here because I didn't want to troll patch_adam's other ROM thread as well..Has anyone experienced this kind of problem ?

Maintainer can delete,I spoke to soon b4 I could try a few things. I must of had some kind of file that was crapping all over my phone so I just deleted every image/video and for now everything seems to be fine....sorry everyone its 5am and I'm alittle stupid right now LOL

I have exactly the same problem. When run quick pics after a while the freezes and reboots system. CM10.2.

I've had the same issue for awhile but have simply neglected to try a fix because I'm still able to flash ROMs from the SD and pictures are just saved to the device. However, I read in one of the 4.4.x forums someone had to format their SD and that solved the issue. It does seem like a pain but it's worth a shot, assuming you have a stable ROM running and can format without the worry of having to sideload something in the event there is a mishap.

for me it happens on a freshly installed ROM. Formatting the card doesn't help. The CM10.1 doesn't have this problem.

[Q] AOKP Build 40 Google Issue

I don't know why but it seems that I can't connect to google servers. If I open google play, I get the loading forever, same with gmail if I search something.
This happens while on wifi and/or network data.
I tried reflashing gapps. Also, clearing market cache.
Other apps can use internet like they normally do, it's just google services that are not working for me.
What can I do?
Go into cwm and wipe cache and dalvid cache

Did not work.
I wiped /data earlier today, so I don't know what could be happening..
I guess it's time to go back to phone bricker and start over..
It does have some issues but I can reconnect and resync w/o problem.
have you tried fixing permissions?

Have you tried redownloading gapps, sometimes it's just a bad download.
Full wipe

I just flashed build 40 and no problems at all. As all the dev's say if you have any problems do a full wipe. that should fix your problem.
i second the full wipe. custom kernal? Other than cherry picker?

Its not the ROM. Its you.
Does your Data/Wifi work for anything else?
ehh who cares. Full wipe and reflash.
A full data wipe was done hours before this issue started.. anyway i flashed another rom and all is good now.
Aokp is good but not as stable as i would want.

AOKP is as stable if not better than all others. Just because you had an issue and couldnt figure it out, doesnt mean its the ROM. I among the many others have never had an issue with wifi. Hell I've never had an issue that i didnt cause...
Never say that AOKP is not stable. We own these streets
I was using aokp for a week or so, flashing every build as they were released. However, when they ask you for a full wipe before asking for assistance then you know a rom is not as stable.
I guess wiping data every week is not the way i want to go. I hate setting up everything after a full wipe... nandroid backups didn't help much this time.

Dude you're so wrong I don't even know where to begin
To start off with, a developers support philosophy has nothing to do with how stable the rom is
You don't have to wipe every week, I go a few weeks without wiping and have had no issues

This is not my first android, though it is my first aokp rom. I didn't say i had to wipe data every time i flashed, what bothers me is that rom maker asks for a full wipe before assisting you. Something like, when flashing this rom, a full wipe is recommended, though not necessary... But should any issue arise (and they will, eventually) wipe data first and ask questions later.
That's what i mean when i say this rom is not stable. Sure, one could just flash aokp and ignore updates and maybe it will last longer before needing a full wipe, but that's not my case. I love flashing roms but having to wipe more than once a month is just unacceptable for me. Maybe there are people out there who don't mind wiping data that often, so aokp is for them.
Other than that, aokp is a good rom.

That has nothing to do with stability. NOTHING. its a fact of android. **** go south. wipe.
You say its not your first android, But hell, a wipe for issues is the FIRST thing I learned years ago.
dont want to wipe, stay stock or get an iphone.
Wiping for issues is something that EVERY ROM has. not just AOKP. Task just plays it smart and doesnt waste time trying to diagnose before hand. Common sense man.
I'd just drop it if I was you.
I don't know who, but one of us is terrible wrong about this. I think a wipe should not be needed as often, since android should be a very stable operating system. You think full wipe is something acceptable because android is not as stable as other operating systems, maybe I'm asking too much or maybe you are way too conformist.
But whatever, I'm not saying aokp is bad, I'm just angry i lost like 10+ hours of cafeteria nipponica, I had 3 restaurants and lots of money, though i lost that because i was too lazy to backup via cwm and figure out how to restore specific data later..

Hey bro,
Just letting you know, in case you haven't noticed... AOKP has a strong following here.
Beware of open criticism, you're gonna get chewed alive.
My advice: drop it and move on. Arguing over the internet is pointless. What you are mentioning is not going to change.
Thankfully in Android we have a choice , if you don't want to follow a rom maintainer's policy, there's always another one.
Even for I777 you can hellraise a I9100 if there isn't one here that you like.
I'd recommend you CM9 as a good alternative. Personally I never have experienced issues with Google Services when using AOKP but YMMV.
Regards.

Its actually the same on any OS with updates, some things can get left behind, and what have you, Sometimes a crashed Windows machine is due to old files that got left behind. They have cleaners for that. In my experience Android gets messy after a while. Reboots are also needed on any machine to clean up cache and whatnot. few things to think about
Game data, could be saved on sdcard also, as most of my large games are. otherwise IDK the cwm way.
I liked your response honestly, it was very calm. Good luck man.

just can't get a reliable Rom

please, somebody please help me get a useable phone again. I'm not sure if it's how I'm flashing, the roms I'm using, or if it's just what I have to deal with. things have sucked ever since the first jb Rom I've tried.
I've had the awful non-responsive home button issue across all roms. constant random reboots, and fcs constantly. messaging, email, system ui.. everything. battery barely gets me through work. a phone should not work like this, and this stuff didn't used to happen with ics.
I'm using twrp2 and I've tried many cm10 releases, PA, liquid smooth. some work well for a few hours, none of them have been good.
please help if you can.

Jellybean or ICS?
Sent from one bad ass, highly modified, Samsung Galaxy Note running Novena A3 using the BEST in mobile apps, XDA-Developers!
I've run several very good, stable ROMs. ICS: BlackStarVII, VIII, IX and X.
JB: Eclipse 2.0 and currently running CM10 Stable.
All of these run flawlessly for me. I flashed all with CMW.
There are plenty of stable roms out there. BlackStarX Is very stable. It is stock with the ability to tweak and customize. you would need to give more details of how your installing
swyped on my huge phone
For the home button issue, if you flash one of the "alternate" kernel's, it fix's the home button issue (or at least, it did for me).
As for a rom, I use FJ's JethroBubba w/o issue, have had 200hrs~ uptime on my phone and would have had longer if I wasnt such a flash-o-hollic and flashed the updates for it nearly the next day...
Its not for everyone, but its solid as a rock for me.

I am so ****ing fed up with this phone. please someone help me out... after loving it for months I'm so close to selling it. just problem after problem on any Rom I try. right now I can't even use my phone to make calls. it rings on the other end but there is silence on my end. I tried clearing phone data in apps, tried fixing permissions, rebooting several times. I've had this issue on each Rom on and off. right now on cm10.. forget the exact nightly but I think the one after stable.
I just don't understand. it has to be something I'm doing or not doing since everyone else is having luck getting reliability. could using cwm instead of twrp somehow make for a more reliable flash? what else could I possibly try? maybe someone could list exact steps of how they're flashing, and what they're using to do so. I would be so grateful.

are you flashing them correctly?
Wipe data/cache/dalvik
using twrp2.. I factory reset, wipe data/cash, and dalvik. flash Rom. flash gapps. fix permissions. boot. it seems sometimes the Rom auto restores my apps. if not I restore apps with tibu.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
Your not restoring the data for apps on tibu are up? And jellybean for the note is a wip we do not have an official kernel source so its gonna be wonky sometimes. Some ROMs are better than others but they all fail every now and then jellybean ones anyways. Have u tried novena? Its a very nice and fast ICS ROM.
Family alliance
maybe I'll try going back to ics. disappointing since jb had some nice features. I've tried restoring just apps and apps plus data. but I've also flashed roms where I didn't need tibu and still same issues. but so many people are claiming reliability on these jb roms. not sure if mine is different or they just have lower expectations

Deep Breath....then pause, and think about this for a minute...
It is "VERY" likely that your problems are user related...(not to sound mean or insulting, because I do "NOT" intend to be..) But...
Roms coming to us are for the most part...clean. A factory build with mild tweaks, and certainly stable for every day use.
The problems come when users dont "clean" the device properly on a fresh flash, or they restore bits of previous rom data from non-compatible builds.
Now I make screw up's too, after nearly 10 years of android hacking. I'll forget a wipe function, or restore an app with TIBU that should "NOT" get put back without a clean app install.
Long story short, the roms here are solid in the ICS realm, and are very good in the JB side too....
I suggest Blackstar as a top pick, also the UCLF6 ICS build #5 from flappjaxxx....
Both are rock solid, and if you exhibit any problems beyond the normal android hickups, then it is likely a user/device issue, and not the rom itself....g
To follow Sarge, try a clean install of all apps from the market. Its a pain to reenter data, etc. but it sounds like you're already in pain.
Its really not that difficult. I will agree that some roms are more stable than others. Most of the JB roms do have some random issues. Here is the thing though. When you start flashing custom roms, you need to accept that you might encounter minor issues. If you are not willing to live with those issues or find work arounds, then you need to flash back to stock and be happy.
Keep in mind that devs have source code to work with ICS roms. Since Samsung hasn't dropped JellyBean source for this device, the current builds are all based on the google opensource code, without many of the device specific drivers.
Others have mentioned and I agree 100%, reinstall all of your user apps out of the play store. I don't trust any of the app backups from TiBU or any other tool. I also do a complete wipe and format everything between roms. You have to have some level of patience to dabble in the custom rom world, and it sounds like you might be missing that. See what you got after an initial install, don't overclock or change any performance settings...Install just the basic apps, from the play store and see how things work for a day or so. If things seem smooth, then add some more apps. Many people try and do too much at one time, which make isolating the problem nearly impossible.
ok, right now I'm on novena... I really hate ics after using jb, but it appears to be quite good so far at least. been on it for a few days and not really any issues. this time I also installed using cwm instead of twrp. apps were restored automatically with play store. sometimes that doesn't happen.. is there any way to install through play store if it doesn't do it automatically?

Been using ICS BlackStar X as my daily driver without any problems and great battery life.

My severe problem with Amaze 4G, all the roms I install act faulty.

Hi,
I'm having severe problems with my Amaze for weeks now. Thing is, I can't find a ROM that just works for me, nothing fancy or special, I just want to flash something and use my phone rather than flashing ROM every few hours.
First let me tell you about my phone:
It's T-Mobile Amaze 4G, S-ON and with 4EXT recovery.
My problems are that:
1) After each phone restart, most of the times phone doesn't find my SD card and as I store my apps on it, I have to restart again and again and hope for a time that it does find my SD card.
2) Whenever I tweak a ROM, even a bit, and I don't mean hack, just using the option the ROM itself provides like tweaks that Revolution does, phone crashes constantly and I have to reflash.
3) I have severe problems with ICS ROMs that seem stable and people are saying that they use regularly.
4) Even if I don't try to customize a ROM, phone gets into weird problems like crashes at startup or stuck at htc logo that leaves me into reflash.
I got this phone from my brother who was using 2.x ROMs on it but I wanted Nexus look so I upgraded to ICS with ph185.img and then been trying almost all ROMs but I'm yet to find something that I can safely put my sim card in it without worrying that it might miss a call or drain battery fast.
I first wanted Nexus pure android look but I now fell back to htc stock look and been trying all other ROMs, even though downloading ROMs is very expensive. Maybe I have to S-OFF and fall back to 2.3.4 ROMs.
Any help is highly appreciated as I'm so desperate and can't afford another phone for at least a year.
Thanks.

the rom you mentioned, du 4.4, is known for not being stable. dont bother. unjust's cm11 is the best kitkat rom for this phone.
Thanks skepticmisfit . I have been slow on my fascinates lately flashing them around and I don't always get a chance to read all the posts and replies so it helps hearing it from you, I have 3 different fascinates on 3 different roms, last rom I flashed from was 4.2.2 avatar on my personal phone and I really liked it stability wise with my data and no unexpected FC's or random reboots.
Getting around to flash over and of course, I get the random reboot as soon as I am downloading the unjust cm11 lol now that I've read on it, it's the rom for me too. Thanks again for the heads up

Hey,
I have a really annoying problem with my phone. When I installed any (probably some work) JB or KK rom my phone randomly freezes then reboots. It does it like 5 mins after boot or even during the boot! IT'S SO F***ING ANNOYING PLEASE, I BEG U HELP ME FIX IT:crying:!
I googled, I looked around on this website and in the comments of the roms but theres nothing. So I created my own thread.
What is your flashing process?
How clean is it?
Name a rom or two where you are having issue.
Sometimes you just need to go back to beginning (flash back to stock) and clear out that extra garbage. I just had to do that last night. Maybe about the 4th time ive had to do it in 2 years.
