These "carrier updates" are just getting ridiculous...
Sent from my Droid DNA using Tapatalk 2!
This phone will be lucky to get 4.2.2 but I highly doubt it goes past that,
HTC and Samsung have completely flipped stances on updates over the last 3 years and it is now HTC who gives their devices 6 month lifespans.

this phone will be getting 4.2.2 for sure. HTC and llabtoofer confirmed. probably nothing official after that, but i think we'll see dev support for a long time with this phone. its pretty solid

Verizon seems to be putting all their support into Motorola, Samsung, and Apple.
I'll be shocked if we get 4.2.2 officially before the year ends.... if ever.

its already confirmed. besides, after the verizon one comes out in august, we'll have a CDMA port of 4.2.2 anyway, so it wont even matter much

so as the One gets updates, we can get ported updates for our DNAs as well?
I highly doubt they'll even consider updating this phone before the One gets 4.2.2/the One hype train dies down. At least a month after release I'd say.

It's really a shame that HTC has decided to never stand behind their devices and are on the verge of chapter 11 due to to it.
The 2 year old Galaxy S II is expected to get android 4.2.2 by the end of summer... possibly before the HTC One. The HTC phone that came out the same year as the GS2 was the Sensation and HTC left it dead on 4.0.3 ICS.
I will not buy another HTC device even though I have only had HTC's since the G1. I'm not sure if I want to go Samsung but I may not have a choice.
HTC should just get out of android and sign a Nokia like deal to make Windows junk.
It's half HTC, half Verizon... The butterfly (international version of our phones) got 4.2.2 with Sense 5! So there's hope. At the least someone figures out how to get it working on CDMA and we can flash it. Honestly all I want is ASOP 4.3. No bugs. I'll be content. Until 5.0 comes out seriously though. I'd rather get an iPhone over any Samsung phone. Then my phone will actually have good build quality. And I'd get updates when they're released. And I'd be extremely limited and forced to join the Apple cult... Oh the struggles. :banghead:

The way I understand it is that HTC is more than willing to update devices, but the carriers are c-blocking everything. Makes sense too because why should Verizon allow updates to devices when they can sell a newer device and lock in more 2-year contracts.
What really bothers me is the super secret aspect of it all. Why can't they just come out and say what the plan is and tell us what their intent with updates are (HTC and Verizon). What is really killing them is the lack of information which leads to user frustration and people making up things like "Verizon promised that they were going to update the Rezound by June 1st PROMISED!!".

That would be true if it weren't for the fact that other phones have seen long support on Verizon and other carriers. Don't have to look further than the Droid Bionic/RAZR to see that. Both shipped with 2.3 and have had 4.1 for quite some time now. Meanwhile, both the Incredible 4G and Rezound haven't gotten past ICS in around the same timeframe. The DNA is the last HTC I buy while I'm on Verizon, if it weren't for the fact that I'm S-Off and we have a great DEV community, I'd be out in a second.

Haha, yeah well its not like I'm asking for key lime pie the most frustrating thing about Android is how an update will roll on the Nexus devices and it takes months for any other device. Stupid fragmentation. HTC should focuses of a couple high quality handsets and stick with it. Maybe even one. Follow Apple.

Well if they did that we wouldn't see another update at all, we aren't the high quality handset anymore.
It isn't Google's fault for how android gets distributed, it's carrier and manufacturer. I'd take development of custom roms and kernels over a single device being updated faster. To me that's just another ios device. If instant updates are a requirement then really only choices are nexus devices.

Apple has lost almost 50% of there stock value for that reason 1 device only. I will take the top notch devs we have over a free apple device any day. These guys kick ass. Thanks DNA DEVS.
I love our devs and more the better. The thing is there is so many devices not all can be supported. I mean the DNA isn't officially supported by CM or AOKP. The less fragmentation the better. And that Apple company that lost their stock? We'll they're the most profitable company in America. I hate their policies and their OS, but they offer timely updates, and a high quality device. Why? Because their billion dollar R&D budget goes to one phone. Not 17...

Your post got me thinking...
How are the new upgrade programs these carriers offer going to effect android? Since you can upgrade every 6 months now will we even see updates at all?
Maybe it forces google to use motorola and lock down android.
Verizon won't update this phone. If they do then you have less of a reason to jump on the newer phones.
And to those confirmed rumors... The Rezound was confirmed JB as well. How'd that go?
If you want updates, leave Verizon and get a Nexus. Otherwise be happy with what you get from our community devs.

The key there is the uncertain date. I wish they could feel that it is safe to give some kind of target date with the understanding that it might be missed. Or at least give out status updates. Waiting in the dark sucks.
It was pretty obvious we were going to get KitKat. The real question had to do with the timeframe which is still up in the air.
When it comes to LG, nothing was certain. LG has a reputation for never updating their devices, so this confirmation that there will be an update, is relieving.
For example, the LG Optimus G (which the G2 replaced) still runs Android 4.1, and never got an update from its release (and probably never will get an update). Until the G2, LG was under the assumption that cellular phones should never be software updated.
And those of us with Verizon will have to wait for Verizon to approve it for their device which adds time

It will definitely not be in November in the USA even if the Europeans get it November because of the additional layer of BS which is the USA carriers touch on it and their bloatware. Even December seems like a stretch so my guess is that the USA versions will come at the very earliest January.
If you folks want to put any stock on what a french carrier says then buy all means just keep going on and on. Until LG releases something officially, this is all rumors and BS. If you want kitkat anytime soon, then you'll need to root and wait for a Rom to release a 4.4 version of their Rom.
By the way, that French site has updated their table. It now says "No Update Scheduled."
http://smartphones.sfr.fr/android/prochaines-mises-a-jour-smartphones-novembre-2013/
Or possibly, it says No Updates for the Optimus G and for the G2 it just says Scheduled.
We really just need an updated kernel. Once we have a good updated working kernel, copying the files over shouldn't be that hard.
LG was always bad at updating their equipment. This is my 2nd LG (non-nexus) device. We've come a long way since the LG G2x and I hope LG has learned lots of lessons. I grabbed the G2 with very high hopes that LG won't let me down again. It seems they are starting out VERY VERY well and lots of people are raving over the G2.
As long as they don't just quit on 4.4, I'll be happy. I have this phone for 2 years. Android 4.4 is the first step to take us into 1 year. Android 4.5/4.6 might just be minor updates but Android 5.0 will probably be a huge release. As long as LG can come through with 4.4 in a reasonable time frame and another major update in a year, I'll be super happy.
With LG making both the current Nexus device and one of the hottest non-nexus devices, this shouldn't be very hard, especially since they all share mostly the same hardware.

Any link to this announcement? Dont get me wrong, I do believe in 4.4 for G2, OG and OG Pro, but havent seen any source from LG themselves.
I guess I assumed wrongly that they wouldn't be so dense as to not update their flagship phone. Guess I should have done more research. At the time I figured I'd root/ROM but having dropped the damn thing first week in I'm now too puckered up to do so for awhile, for sure.
I still can't believe how easily it cracked. Granted it was face down on sharp stones.
Not sure my point. On the one hand clearly the device should be updated and at least within a few months. On the other... I don't remember being promised anything. Unless Google is enforcing their proposed 18 month support guideline then we're at mercy of LG.
How much time should they get to announce some sort of plan? Seems like the ideal thing would be to be ready to announce soon after 4.4 was released. Is not like it was a secret to them when this would happen. It's a black mark on retail/normal Android process for the majority of users.
Yes, I'll end up installing a custom ROM. But I don't believe the b.s. about updates not being important to the average user. These guys just magically update their iOS devices? No, they're listening and they go into the settings to update...

Anyone hear if g3 is even getting 5.1.1 or is this phone dead to lg.
Rumor around the net is that we're going to be skipped entirely and get M when it's released, instead.
Other rumors are that the G3 and the G2 both will get 5.1.1:
https://www.androidpit.de/lg-g3-android-update
https://www.androidpit.de/lg-g2-android-update
Use Chrome's translation ability.
Honestly at this point I would rather see LG focus on getting M ready for our G3 than worrying about 5.1.1. By the time they get 5.1.1 ready Android M will be close to ready for at least the Nexus devices so I'm figuring LG could be that much closer to having it ready for us to instead of working on 5.1.1 then turn around to work on Android M after that. Not to mention if you badly want 5.1.1 right now there's a TON of great AOSP/CM based ROMs that work perfectly fine on our G3.
... I hope that all makes sense.
It's near impossible for LG to work on getting M ready since Google doesn't even have it done. It can be useless to work on a prerelease since who knows what might change before it gets released to final. I'd rather have a bugfixed Android 5.0 as in 5.1.1 rather than a brand new possibly still buggy M.
I'm betting we might see a maintence release in fall with a few bug fixes and then end of life for the G3 as Verizon is prone to do.

I don't know. I never thought the S4 on Verizon would see 5.0 but they proved me wrong once, lets just wait and see.
Or the first week of February. Maybe something that doesn't matter to a lot of us who already jumped onto the leaked Lollipop build I have to offer.
I know I haven't seen many of the users who posted here before because Verizon surely did rip us. Yesterday I've spent quite some time looking at the Droid Turbo 2, LG V10, Moto X Pure, and the Note 4/5 at Best Buy. Snappier UI experience, amazing cameras, and surely they all got the best support of today. I would only jump ship knowing if I could get all of those + waterproofing on Verizon and that's that.
I only hold thread on my phone definitely for most of those features on an Xperia that was a flagship of 2014. And there's also that contract too. If the bootloader was ever unlocked, I'm pretty sure our two developers on the phone could do much more. For the time being, I do try my best in enjoying the Z3v with what's in this showcasing attachment.
Pretty soon...
The factory version would need to have additional features that I *would* use before I go back to OTA. My phone is stable and I am happy.

I don't know what it is with 5.0.2 but my experience with it compared to 4.4.4 has been awful. I haven't experienced as many app/phone crashes, freezes or instances of chrome running out of RAM for things like uploading a picture with rooted KK (if any) as I have with LP. It's so unstable for me.
Quite literally the only thing it has going for me is the Material design and even that I could work without if I let myself get used to Holo again. I'm hoping if VZW ever does come out with a more finalized build for its OTA that it doesn't crap all over itself like this build is on my phone.

With all this extra time they are taking and considering it is a stage fought patched internal release people have been testing it already is 1 step ahead of the other sony lollipop releases unless they are on 5.1.1 now. It's someone random, but that doesn't necessarily determine if it's reliable or unreliable. It's already one year after the promised date range of when the Z3v was supposed to get the official Lollipop rom. Whatever comes now is just a worthwhile announcement. If we get it, we get it. If we don't, then oh well.

Maybe I did say it, or didn't. It could have been a lot of other people saying it as well. I just want to share hope far the antics go with what Verizon knows for what they think the OTA release dates are.
Even thinking the Z5 coming to Verizon was almost too good to be true, but I would like to have a nice upgrade to another flagship waterproof phone.
Be careful what you wish for with Sony devices. The Z2 I had with AT&T and Z3V on Verizon were solid devices, but the Z3 and Z3+ I've tried with T-Mobile both had reception issues. i.e. in fringe areas they would have no signal at all while other devices would have signal. I don't know what Sony has done with their newer devices but it really hasn't been an improvement.
Even my wife's Note 5 gets better reception than the Z3/Z3+

Snappier UI experience, amazing cameras, and surely they all got the best support of today. I would only jump ship knowing if I could get all of those + waterproofing on Verizon and that's that.
I only hold thread on my phone definitely for most of those features on an Xperia that was a flagship of 2014. And there's also that contract too. If the bootloader was ever unlocked, I'm pretty sure our two developers on the phone could do much more. For the time being, I do try my best in enjoying the Z3v with what's in this showcasing attachment.
Pretty soon...

I can't help myself, it's just my nature. :good:
I have not seen any hint of an OTA for our phones and I do keep watching for one, I think another forum member said he has a inside tipster who will let them know if there is to be an update OTA coming.
Well I just called Verizon to see if they would give me information that is in any way similar to what you received. The tech told me that they are focusing on updates for their HTCs LGS and Samsungs. He said that even though we can activate Advanced calling on our accounts the phone still needs the 5.0 update to actually use it. I asked him for a time frame. He said that the manufacturer hasn't sent them the update yet and then when I told him the manufacturer saidit was to be out by the end of 2015 and that competitors already have updates for their phones he kind of glazed over it.
So the time frame he gave me was possibly around spring break or during the summer in which he also said that sony is working on a new phone which would be coming around by then on Verizon and that they might be waiting to make the new phone before they push that update. So the false hope can be put to rest. The lead OTA would probably be our only option for a while and he said that they might not have released an update because they are still fixing bugs. And for the tech to try to relate he said that he is still waiting on an update for his samsung galaxy note 4 for Advanced calling.

In due time, it will be for everyone here. Pretty soon.
Just thought I'd make a thread announcing it, I realize it will take time for developers to make Roms for it.
Thanks for the thread, waiting for a rom since couple of hours ago
Hopeful to get one as soon as possible.

Same, can't wait
Really want custom pixel like ROM from @cile381 !
AOSP sources now available
https://review.lineageos.org/#/c/LineageOS/android/+/222627/
I'm also waiting for lineage rom.
This is awesome! With the help from our Big boys we should enjoy latest features in a soon-to-be 4 year old phone.

Not necessarily. First basic Pie builds could pop up relatively soon (with bugs obviously). But it will take some time to download the sources and get familiar with the new code.
Couldn't come sooner tbh, and been wanting to get back into custom roms for a year now. Although it took 6 months for Lineage 15 to come out after Oreo release...

I don't understand why the hell didn't google upgrade the 6P to Pie, it is very capable bof handling the mew update! I mean, apple is upgrading 5s to iOS 12...
Google needs to let us have Android 9.0. I can't afford a new phone, and I love my Nexus 6P!

I 100% agree with you!!!!
It wouldn't of hurt of Google to give the Nexus 6P Android P Beta or even the release of it. This is what annoys me alot with android phones they don't even try keep the phone alive, One, two or even three updates thats it they're done with the phone unlike Apple as much I dislike them they know how make their phones last for a good ass time. I'm glad this website exists because people and developers know that these phones have a longer life to them.

Sadly, Google, like many OEMs will only support for 2 years.

I dislike Apple as well. Apple likes to lockdown their devices, then it takes forever for a "jailbreak" to be released. That's why I switched to Android 5 years ago.

Actually, the 6p was released in September 2015, so not quite 3 years old....

You couldn't blame OEMs too much, for the Android updates need SoC drivers support. Qualcomm didn't support sd810 anymore so Google has no way to update Android 9 as well.
