Question about samsung knox - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi my friends i have a questions about samsung knox
I am worried about this app so i have a lot of questions
What is knox ?
Can i root the phone like s3 4.1.2 ?
Can i modify and change rom to any rom ?
What will happen if i donot flash my country rom knox will not work ?
Can i delete or disable the program
I have s3 and i want to know alot about knox and 4.3 coming very soon and thank you

It is not an app, it is a whole security suite for enterprise use.
You can root as usual, but it might void your warranty and you cannot reset it.
However, if you go straight to custom ROMs (the classic ones, like omega or wanam) the developers will usually knock off Knox for you, so you don't have to worry.
Knox is only available in certain regions as far as the rumors suggest.
You cannot disable the program properly if you flash a ROM with Knox not removed by prior modding.

[Q] Rooting my phone ?

Hello everyone,
I'm new at android and everything so i would love to ask you developers (professionals) some questions.
First of all i would like to root my phone to get ICS but I'm kinda concern that i will lose my warranty. So the question is: "Is there any way to unroot your phone and get it back on official software (ROM)?" so i don't lose my warranty when i need some repairs or something.
Second questions is: "Can a failing at root damage my phone ?".
And third : "Can you recommend my some software, rom, or anything for rooting safely ?"
My spec :
Model number: GT-I9100
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband version: I9100XXKI1
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI4-CL575467 [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWKI4
PS: Sorry for my bad English its not my native language.
PPS: Sorry if similar thread exist.
Make sure to ask questions in the Q/A section next time instead of the general.
1. You will lose warranty by rooting. You will have to reflash the stock rom and use a USB jig (you need to buy it) reset the counter. You could also just flash the ICS and flash triangle away which does the same as a USB jig, but its Highly recommened to use a usb jig.
2. Failing to root wont physically damage the phone, but can cause a brick. This phone is fairly hard to brick and it can be fixed by flashing stock roms using odin. (a usb jig can also help in this situation).
3. Flash this for root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Instructions are provided nicely and its rather easy to root with this. You do also have some other options of one-click root if you wish.

Why would you want to root your phone to get ICS? You don't need root to install ICS.
If that's your only reason for rooting, don't.
Official ICS is coming this month, so id just wait for it if this is the only reason for rooting your phone.

Personally if you just want ICS I would just wait until it officially comes out. No need to void your warranty . Word of advise if you do decide you want to root one day ALWAYS look for a method to reverse it.

Resurrection Rom v9.6 by westcrip is in my opinion the best ics rom (without TW) so far! no fc's, very smooth, best battery life i've ever experienced..

totally agree! as i mentioned definetely try out resurrection rom by Westcrip!
Nice to hear that this ROM work so well ...
Nice to hear that this Resurrection ROM (and many other) work so well ...
But ... It's simply to difficult and risky for newbies like me (and a lot other i could imagine)
I have decided to wait for official Samsung ICS firmware and maby get root when some nice tool like Easy Rooting Toolkit [v4.0] (zergRush Exploit) or OneClick Root becomes available ...
And BTW I don't think TouchWiz is that bad at all.
Only reason for me to get root, was getting rid of some Samsung bloatware.
Wow a question in the general section.
I think @Houselegend want to change ROM because of same reason like me. ICS comes out for few days, yes, but in our countries we must wait for our operators to get update. I don't know how much we will wait, but we expect about 2-3 months!
I can't stay more on stock, it's boring and battery duration is very short.
So, if is simple to get back on stock ROM, unroot and reset counter, why not play with custom ROMs?

There are a few threads on how to get back to the stock rom. To reset the counter u have to use a usb jig (u can buy one, those are really cheap) but there may be some apps out there to reset the counter but i think the sinpliest and most secure way is to use a jig! But why do u need to get back to the stock roms?

[Q] [Using a JIG][Getting ready for warranty]

Ive bought a JIG and would just like some noob-friendly layman advice and references on using the JIG and steps i need to take to prep for a warranty return (I tried searching but im not good at processing large amounts of information so ended up no where). Linking will be fine if you cant be bothered.
I also have other questions such as, when they return the device do i lose ROOT and such? Will they flash an unrootable/unexploitable ROM?
Thanks so much.

Turn the phone off place usb recovery jig in usb port . Screen should now show custom rom zero .
and steps i need to take to prep for a warranty return (I tried searching but im not good at processing large amounts of information so ended up no where). Linking will be fine if you cant be bothered.
What preps ???
Requirments are no root and no custom rom and rom counter at zero .
= flash your original rom or stock rom to remove root .
I also have other questions such as, when they return the device do i lose ROOT and such? Will they flash an unrootable/unexploitable ROM?
If you have root on returning your warranty is void .
They will flash a standard stock rom .

[Q] Don't kill me for asking

Good day, everybody!
I've seen that there are here many great experts in this domain, so that I would like, with your permission, to ask why SG S3 has to be factory unlocked before rooting? All the guides provided on pages I've found on internet specify that (as a newbie, I only can assume that factory locked means that the device is working only on a specific mobile carrier, which is applicable in my case).
I also want to get a newer stock version of Android, and I dont't know if the latest is 4.1.2 or 4.2; maybe you can tell me.
From what I've read, in order to do so, I firstly have to root my phone, using a method for the specific kernel I have (XXDLJ4), and then install the software, using clockworkmod and the stock Android kitt. If I've understood it completly wrong, please let me know.
I can figure that you have been hearing this kind of questions over and over in your life, and I understand you perfectly, but I wouldn't be coming here I didn't you're the best.
The AP of my device is 9300XXDLJ4 with CP I9300BVDLI1.
Many thanks for your patience and time,
Cristi

You should start by reading the FAQS and Guides .

You should ask in the Q&A section, but as you are at it, you will find this interesting , as it has all the infos you are searching for :

rooting a phone wont do anything by itself. rooting just allows to modify system files, lets u delete pre-installed apps and lots of other stuffs. after rooting your device u can also use some apps to optimize your device.

If you have a genuine Samsung update from Kies or OTA that has caused problems then it is covered by warranty .
But as 4.1.2 did not cause problems they may just factory reset the phone .
Samsung's limited warranty is 24 months .

You could root and run an app called "Greenify" to greenify the system processes. Alternatively, you could flash a different ROM that has no bloatware.
Is there a way I can reset my phone that will clear everything including the updates so it's like fresh out the box?

[Q] Stock Rom Kernel Enforcing/Permissive

Hey all,
Just wanted to ask(I know im not suppose to enter this thread here but for some reason no one cares about Q&A Threats mostly) where or how i can get my kernel SeLinux to be Permissive.
Searched on the internet for days now and on xda.
i know i can flash a custom rom with permissive kernel but thats not the point.
tried several custom roms and its not working with my equipment. And by equipment i mean i have an Smart Dock Multimedia Hub and use it for Gaming on my phone which is working the way i want.
But the thing is, since i want to use an Root app that need SeLinux to be Permissive im asking it here.
Most of the Custom roms dont support the Smart Dock Multimedia Hub so i want to stick on the Stock KK Rom.
My phone is Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 LTE i9205 rooted with CWM/TWRP Recovery
I really hope someone can help me out with this
BTW im kinda newbie with this kernel stuff.

oohh no no no! it is not that people don't care about answering the Q&A the problem is that people are lazy as hell and they don't search or read, they brick their devices and the first thing they do is to rush to xda without any search and they start opening thread's asking the same questions over and over again.
FYI : You could easily find this app by searching.
