4.4 Confirmed by LG (Coming OTA Before End Of November) - G2 General

My Conversation with the LG Rep

Should be noted that a random CS rep probably shouldn't be cited as an official announcement.
Sent from my G2

This sounds promising, however you did kind of pressure the guy until you received the answer you were looking for...
He initially said there is no ETA, but then contradicted himself later after your repeatedly asked the same question.

Here's hoping.
If CS know, then why can't LG just announce it though is my worry.

He probably doesnt even realize your talking about 4.4, and not 4.3.

I am hoping he is right believe me...but I would bet my house on us not getting 4.4 before November ends lol (hope I'm wrong)

Even though he specifically does say not 4.3 and about 4.4?

If there's one thing I learned from all these years interacting with CS reps, it's that you take whatever they say with a massive pinch of salt.

Your crazy if u believe that rep.or just have to be the most gullible cobsumer ever

Pinch of salt? How about a truckload of salt1
Rule of thumb - CS reps are ALWAYS wrong. That chat is the exact opposite of a confirmation.

LoL. I can believe you wasted your time but why some poor sap who didn't deserve you ignoring his response of "no eta". It will come when it comes and if it comes before the end of 2013 I'll give you $5 usd

If ANY OEM out there should release Kitkat early for their flagship device it should be LG since they worked closely with google on this nexus and the last one. Its time they learn how to properly support their devices.

He probably thought about the actual chocolate kitkat.

Even if LG had its ducks in a row, carriers will make their ugly presence felt by delaying the crap out of them. Carrier testing for WP8 GDR2 took several months.

Can't read. Coded in Minecraft......
Hopefully it does come though.
LG G2

No disrespect, but that has to be one of the most embarrassing chats that I have ever seen. Just how you kept asking the same question over and over and then the poor agent who is probably making minimum wage or close to it just tells you what you want to hear after he clearly says that he doesn't know and didn't have an eta.
And you are saying confirmed by LG? Hahahaha.

Yes. It will be out in november, 2014

Spoke to an LG honcho from India. He didn't say end of November but end of the year and confirmed he meant 2013 (I checked if he meant end of 2014/5/6), at least for the International edition. LG's prestige is riding on it, so I wouldn't expect them to delay too much.

I'm predicting February 4.4 KitKat OTA.

We also have some kit kat features
Full emoji suport and full screen notifications pull down. Just waitting for kit kat for autohide softkejys

I think it's plausible considering LG has been sitting on 4.4 for a long time while developing the Nexus 5. Likely? Probably not. Plausible? Sure.

2.3 is out for the Sprint version. It's ready but its t-mobiles decision when to release it. Gingerbread has been out for the international Optimus as well. For us t-mobile users we should just root and install mik's cm7 or any Rom u like. It was painless for me.

LG forum mods don't believe it will be released for the Optimus T .
T-Mobile has made no promises.
The Optimus S release was so f**ked up that they pulled it on Sept. 28th
It's a mess and it ain't gonna happen.

LG promised all phones will receive a minimum of 1 version upgrade. Whether you will believe that or not idk. I'm running happy with mik's CM7 and I would never go back to stock. You should give it a shot. Stock Rom will not match the performance of this.
EDIT: I headed over to the Optimus S section on another forum and it seems ok. Some quirks and bugs, but seems usable.

As of Sept 8th US T-Mobile had not yet contacted LG to begin the process. I've done a fair bit of digging on this. I hope I'm wrong but I didn't just pull this out of my arse. It's all over the LG and US Tmo forums.
With regards to the Optimus S they wouldn't have pulled it if there weren't some serious issues.
I'm running CM7 and happy with it but I don't recall seeing a disclaimer saying "update it yourself"
P.S. The 3GS released in June of 2009 and was just updated to iOS 5, now that's service

Updates for Android are slow and it's pretty obvious. Comparing android updates to Apple is not the right thing. Apple just has to look after a few devices. Iphone 3/GS/4/4S. While there are hundreds of android devices. Even though devices are split between manufacturers like Samsung/HTC/LG they still have 10-30 devices to look after and high end devices will always be their top priority. It's a bummer, but we will just have to deal with it until Google comes up with something and they have taken this into account. They have said publicly that they know this is a major problem with Android and they are looking for ways to fix this. Lucky almost all high end phones have great developer support so we don't have to wait for the manufacturer.

It's a wise decision to invest into a higher end phone. Don't expect to get the same treatment when you got a lower end device because sadly things don't work that way. Phones like the Optimus/Galaxy Ace/Mini/Gio are pretty much not even budget phones anymore. They are at the bottom of the bottom. The mid-range phones now are the low end phones now. Things are shifting and it would be a waste of time for them to get in the trouble of working on a phone that is obsolete.

You're making me laugh.
Let me see, you're comparing Android on a $200 max phone with an iPhone? A low-end phone will never provide the real Android experience.
I was looking at my O1 and I said "I think I'll buy a better droid next time, this one is just offering me a small taste of what Android can do". So I did; I bought a better, dual-core, 4.3" phone. Trust me, daily use of Android on a premium phone can't be compared to daily use on a cheap one.
So don't compare your O1 to an iPhone. Try and compare a GS2, Arc S, Sensation, Droid Bionic, Nexus etc to an iPhone and then see if the iPhone's really worth it.
might get it
or stick to android
off course buy high end android phone

Hardware and Software are different.
What's so hard to understand about wanting a well defined Product LifeCycle?
Buy a $300 Windows Home Laptop and buy a $2000 Windows Professional despktop. The SOFTWARE Product Lifecycle is the same.
No wonder Google is dragging it's feet with regards to this fragmentation. It's customers have been brainwashed. I thought Android users were supposed to be the smart ones... do yourselves a favor and THINK.
P.S. a iPhone 4S is $99 with contract in the US.

[Q] Will AT&T Note be getting ICS OTA?

Using ICS on my Cappy right now and it would be a shame to not have this for the note.
Is it scheduled or just rumored?

Scheduled. But no specific release date. People have been saying March / April.
The Note should definitely be getting ICS.
Okay cool thanks guys!
I believe Samsung said in Q1, and a rumor just surfaced that it would be March 1.
Murphy is a cousin of mine so i say AT&T will update to ICS 2-4 months after Int'l ppl get it from Samsung.
i <3 you Murph!!
That's the worst part of this. My Cappy has been amazing with ICS. I'm almost tempted to keep it until the Note get ICS also.
Too bad the hardware is different for the ATT note (from International version), we don't have LTE in Seattle, but I dislike the physical button on the IV.
Oh well, here's hoping ATT doesn't run the same route as the Captivate (Froyo forever sucked, then Gingerbread last week or so! It was great to have ports of gingerbread well before ATT)
OP, if ics came to the g-note a week after tomorrow it wouldn't be soon enough.
The captivate is freaking unbelievable running it. I to am enjoying it ...almost... enough to put off buying a new one. The cappy is a completely new phone...rom it on the g-note and it will -scream .... on ice cream. (sorry I couldn't help that last part)

ICS on AT&T Note is unlikely in first half of 2012. End of 2012, maybe. 2013? More likely.
It probably will not be ota.... There will probably be bootloaders if the notes ever get ics.
With my history on updates for at&t devices....if it EVER comes, count yourself
lucky. AT&T, except for the iPhones, delays, delays, delays updates.
I've had two non branded phones, and always get updates MONTHS before at&t updates.

Source? If that's just a guess, please say so.
After dealing with samsungs BS with the Vibrant, I don't believe a single word, promise, hint, or hope that they announce until I see ICS on my device. I love Samsungs hardware, but I have lost faith in the company itself long ago when dealing with my vibrant and our 10% out of the box fail rate with Sync Master monitors.
On a plus side, my vibrant runs ICS beautifully so I'm sure it will be even better on the Note once a few good ROMS are released and the bugs are worked out.

It's called common sense if you ever dealed with Samsung devices on AT&T in the past. Anything else is just naive thinking, or fantacy.
For the record, AT&T (not Samsung) is the one determines when an update will be available. And AT&T almost never give out release dates. In rare cases it did so (Captivate and Infuse GB updates are said to be available in fall 2011), they screwed it (both release in 2012).
So, any posting about release schudle is pure guess.

+1. If it comes in OTA, wait a few days. OTA update with bootloader change almost always bricks a few phones everytime Samsung tries it. Most recent is the GS2 Skyrocket 2.3.6 OTA last month.
We have to go through the phases of an over due update. We havn't even seen the numerous "i know someone who can say with certainty that..." or "my brothers cousins sisters poodles hairdresser brother works on the dev teams and said..." or my personal favorite "i know someone inside the company who says". Then there is the phase of dispair where people say they will never buy sammy again and will be selling this POS and so on. Check out the captivate and vibrant forums and you'll see lots. In the vibrants case, it was Samsungs fault for dragging their feet, not T-Mo as they hadnt received the software to bloatware onto when waiting for Froyo! Sit and wait and watch current ROM scene if you really want ICS.

That's the common mis-conception. Carrier bloatware is baked into the ROM by Samsung per carrier request.
Here is how a firmware update process goes:
1. The carrier in question must feel the need for an firmware update. It's a big deal because it has to allocate resources for extensive testing, training of CSR and actual releasing.
2. The carrier makes a request for new firmware to Samsung.
3. Samsung builds the new firmware based on carrier's request and send to carrier for testing.
4. The carrier test extensively of the new build. If there are significant problems found, it goes back to step 3.
5. After extensive testing, carrier OKs the new firmware but need to pick a release date. Most importantly it has make sure it won't jeopardize the sales of new phones.
6. Once received OK from carrier, Samsung can put out the new firmware.
I'm not sure we are even past step 1 yet.

This device has awesome specs and is the bastard brother of the Nexus 4. Its not going anywhere soon. I wouldnt count on waiting for LG. You are much better off waiting for the Devs and going with a ROM.
I've read, from multiple sources, that the Optimus G will be getting JB shortly. Most likely Q1 next year, with the Korean version getting it in December. It's coming, oh yes...it's coming.
Here is an article in Yahoo news that states that LG has the OG with a December timeline. Now, taking into consideration that sometimes "stuff" happens, lets be realistic in saying January 2013. If it happens in December though... that would be my Christmas gift.
Disclaimer: I have only had my OG for a couple days and have not read extensively. If there is anything else published after this article refuting the timeline, my apologies.

Don't buy a device based on upgrade promise from manufactures or carriers. But it based on developer support. I have Note 2 and will be turning for optimus g since this one is now unlocked and we can never worry about waiting for updates from useless carriers.

The key there is the uncertain date. I wish they could feel that it is safe to give some kind of target date with the understanding that it might be missed. Or at least give out status updates. Waiting in the dark sucks.
It was pretty obvious we were going to get KitKat. The real question had to do with the timeframe which is still up in the air.
When it comes to LG, nothing was certain. LG has a reputation for never updating their devices, so this confirmation that there will be an update, is relieving.
For example, the LG Optimus G (which the G2 replaced) still runs Android 4.1, and never got an update from its release (and probably never will get an update). Until the G2, LG was under the assumption that cellular phones should never be software updated.
And those of us with Verizon will have to wait for Verizon to approve it for their device which adds time

It will definitely not be in November in the USA even if the Europeans get it November because of the additional layer of BS which is the USA carriers touch on it and their bloatware. Even December seems like a stretch so my guess is that the USA versions will come at the very earliest January.
If you folks want to put any stock on what a french carrier says then buy all means just keep going on and on. Until LG releases something officially, this is all rumors and BS. If you want kitkat anytime soon, then you'll need to root and wait for a Rom to release a 4.4 version of their Rom.
By the way, that French site has updated their table. It now says "No Update Scheduled."
http://smartphones.sfr.fr/android/prochaines-mises-a-jour-smartphones-novembre-2013/
Or possibly, it says No Updates for the Optimus G and for the G2 it just says Scheduled.
We really just need an updated kernel. Once we have a good updated working kernel, copying the files over shouldn't be that hard.
LG was always bad at updating their equipment. This is my 2nd LG (non-nexus) device. We've come a long way since the LG G2x and I hope LG has learned lots of lessons. I grabbed the G2 with very high hopes that LG won't let me down again. It seems they are starting out VERY VERY well and lots of people are raving over the G2.
As long as they don't just quit on 4.4, I'll be happy. I have this phone for 2 years. Android 4.4 is the first step to take us into 1 year. Android 4.5/4.6 might just be minor updates but Android 5.0 will probably be a huge release. As long as LG can come through with 4.4 in a reasonable time frame and another major update in a year, I'll be super happy.
With LG making both the current Nexus device and one of the hottest non-nexus devices, this shouldn't be very hard, especially since they all share mostly the same hardware.

Haha. LG already put an announcement out, except they gave that 'no date announced bit'. We'll see. G2 is a pretty big release. They're gonna have a tons of angry people if they don't come through.

Any link to this announcement? Dont get me wrong, I do believe in 4.4 for G2, OG and OG Pro, but havent seen any source from LG themselves.
I guess I assumed wrongly that they wouldn't be so dense as to not update their flagship phone. Guess I should have done more research. At the time I figured I'd root/ROM but having dropped the damn thing first week in I'm now too puckered up to do so for awhile, for sure.
I still can't believe how easily it cracked. Granted it was face down on sharp stones.
Not sure my point. On the one hand clearly the device should be updated and at least within a few months. On the other... I don't remember being promised anything. Unless Google is enforcing their proposed 18 month support guideline then we're at mercy of LG.
How much time should they get to announce some sort of plan? Seems like the ideal thing would be to be ready to announce soon after 4.4 was released. Is not like it was a secret to them when this would happen. It's a black mark on retail/normal Android process for the majority of users.
Yes, I'll end up installing a custom ROM. But I don't believe the b.s. about updates not being important to the average user. These guys just magically update their iOS devices? No, they're listening and they go into the settings to update...

I wonder when it'll start rolling out.

I've given up on rooting. I do wonder what effect Oreo will have on the battery life.
We shall see!

Okay, so now it's in the "Manufacturer Development" stage. Has anyone followed these (or have inside knowledge) enough to know how long, roughly, the timeframe of these stages take?
No idea here ... but I do know they only recently added the V30 to the Oreo list .... when it was clearly out for months in Korea.
So I wouldnt gamble on a timeframe for release - just that we will get it sometime.

So we're looking at about two weeks? A part of me hopes we'll crack root first.

We'll see. I'm not betting on root, though.

About 8 months apparently..... :/

Mind you even as a new device and updates in korea nothing was listed as it being able to be updated on the tmobile support page.
When I asked a customer service rep about it the said "we get our info from the manufacture"
At this point it will be my last ever phone purchased thru t-mobile. Not that they care about original customers at all. They are more interested in snagging people from the other 3 carriers.

We're well into April. Very strange.
Ok, changed today from "Manufacturer Development" to "Update in Development". We'll see what that means. But at least they're updating the page!
Funny how that stage doesn't exist...

Not great news for you guys https://www.phonearena.com/news/T-Mobile-LG-V30-Android-8.0-Oreo-update-delayed_id104125
I would take this article with a grain of salt. The only evidence they show is the original tweet with RedOregon69 from the 5th. Based on the original tweet, we should see the update this week.

That is an old story and it references the Tweet about the update being in 2 weeks while he should be this week.
Here is an article posted on TMo News dated April 6th with the Twitter conversation dated April 5th. The author of the Phone Arena article should have actually done his research instead of being lazy.

I don't blame you, I blame the author that posted it on Phone Arena for not researching it.

What's funny about the whole thing is that Phone Arena posted a story on April 7th by a different writer with the same Twitter conversation and it showed the dates of the conversation on Twitter. It proves that they are just regurgitating old stores and spinning them for clicks which is a big fat fail in my book. It also seems they are biased against T-mobile from looking through some of their other stuff.
What's sad is that Android Authority cited Phone Arena's story. That is another failure. Tech blogs are just copying each other's stories instead actually giving us useful information. I called Phone Arena and Android Authority out on the lack of actually checking stories and their failure to post legitimate news, not that they will fo anything about it.
I know now who not to trust for phone information and these losers top the list.

Yeah it sucks to be honest, it's a shame because PhoneArena used to be up there as best in my opinion, now they've just lost the vision I think, most of the comments on articles are them getting called out
