[Q] otg cable not recognizing harddrive - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

Hello,
I've bought an otg cable for my note 3.
the strange thing is it see's my bluetooth mouse and i can use it just fine.
But as soon as i connect an harddrive or a usbstick it won't reconize it it see's it but it says that it's empty or it can't read it.
Are there some setting i need to change? i couldn't find them!
I was thinking the cable was okay because it works fine with my mouse ..?
Does anybody know what is wrong..?
Thankss

Is your phone providing enough power? I don't know why you'd be able to see them if it wasn't, but it's a common issue with OTG. Is the hard drive also plugged into the wall?

exFat, Fat32 formatted hard drives work for me. NTFS does not.
Nexus Media Importer can read the NTFS drives but not write.
I tried stickmount, Paragon etc nothing works for writing into NTFS hard drives.
You should try formatting your drive into exFat.

What cable are you using to test USB Drive with TP2? I was hoping for the same sort of USB cable as the athena allowing you to plug usb devices into TP2 and use the TP2 as a host.
Thanks, Andy

[Q] Micro USB OTG to a PC

I have a stock Canadian Motorola Xoom running ICS 4.0.3
I did try to Google my question and search this entire site... no luck.
What will happen if I connect my Xoom to my XP (PC) using a Micro USB OTG cable? (a USB cable that support "Host Mode")
1. The Xoom will see the XP (PC) as a Massive Storage Device.
2. The XP (PC) will see the Xoom as a Massive Storage Device or as a MP3 player.
3. Both the Xoom and the PC will see each other as a Massive Storage Device.
4. A conflict will occur as both devices, Xoom and the XP (PC) will try to host each other.
5. Other (explain)
*I do know that ICS support OTG, and run really well with flash drives.
Thanks!
Intresting...
Why don't you do it once and let us know what happened?
I don't have a cable to test this but I'd guess you would get a conflict and neither device would recognize the other. Why would you want to do this anyway?

I order the OTG cable last week, it's not here yet. (maybe next week)
I have no idea how an OTG works, so it got me thinking...
- All I know is that OTG trigger the ICS to "host USB", but so the PC...

I want to connect my Xoom to my PC so I can copy some files over, and now wondering if I need another NON-OTG Micro USB to do so...
(or just keep using USB flash drive as a bridge, not super convenient...)
Any non OTG USB cable will do the trick. I think the Xoom only supports MTP, so make sure your computer supports that.

Otg with my micro sd card

Would this work? otg cable connected to my nexus 9, at the other end of otg, a mico memory card reader that will host my 64gb class 10 msd card. Would this act like a pen drive? If so how usable would this be?. Could I store and flash roms from it? Or is that in fact why multi rom has been developed? Would I be able store apk's and also install to my internal drive?
Thanks very much !

Actually Im not so sure. Nexus devices do not support OTG unless rooted. Either that or you need to download a specific file manager app that will be able to read your OTG device.
Thats fine I'll be rooted on day one!
A specific file manager would be fine!
But do you think that setup would work?
Found a paid app
Nexus USB otg for manager!
Wicked!!
There is also a trial version [emoji12]

No root neccesary.
You can download the app "Nexus Media Importer" from the Playstore. It 's free.

Yes indeed.
The app will start automatically when you plug in e.g. an USB-stick with the OTG.

Thanks for the info, I might just get this tab now. OTG cable, £2.50 + 64GB USB stick, £14= match made in heaven. Much cheaper than going for the 32GB option :good:

Don't know about the keyboard. I always use bluetooth to connect with my keyboard.
So wait, I'm also very curious about this. I have a 2 TB external HD that I would love to use with this device, were I to get it. USB OTG is something that could make or break my decision to get it.
So what are the odds that the Nexus 9 will be compatible with USB OTG? I'm very willing to root my device if that's what it takes.
Once using USB OTG, how will it work? Specifically for saving documents on my device. I'm probably going to use it for work stuff as well as for media, so I'll want to be able to plug in my HD, open a word doc or excel file in Kingsoft office or another similar program, edit it, and save it back onto the HD. I wouldn't want to have to use a file explorer to move docs back and forth every time.
Is this an option?
Sorry for all the questions, never used USB OTG before, but it's literally one of the biggest factors in whether or not to get this device.

Well first off if the n9 supports otg out of the box
The problem is that it wont support ntfs
which are hard drives
you will need an custom kernel with ntfs support
That being said
If it mounts you should not have any problems using it
watching movies writing to the hard drive etc...
just go where its mounted to and enjoy
You will need a file explorer
I recommend this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.fm.hd

usb sd otg adapter

Hey guys I just paid for the nexus 6 32gb and also a case. I am the kind of smartphone user that when I mod I want to have my zips/files on an external sd card. Since the nexus 6 doesnt have an external sd card slot. Any recommendations for a usb sd otg adapters?
I think any generic one will work. I was interested in them as well and I found this youtube video reviewing one:
http://youtu.be/dxezcJ4WTf0
I think as long as the phone supports USB OTG they'll all work fine.
You mentioned modding and I assume that means flashing in recovery? I'm not sure if recovery will be able to pick up the USB OTG Card reader though.

I have used twrp before on my m8 and I recall it had an option to use the otg. The twrp build for nexus doesnt have this?
Well I guess theres no reason to suspect it won't be available for the Nexus. Having said that, I've also only just ordered the N6 and its been a while since I've flashed anything.

TWRP on Nexus 6 has USB OTG support. I backup and restore directly from it.
I like the Meevo sd drive. No cable required, plugs in directly to the usb port

I keep looking at this one.
I bought the Lexar M20 and would not recommend it as the connection to my N6 is very loose and I have to use a USB OTG cable with it.

I too have a generic and it works fine. Try this for twrp. Plug in the otg before u shut it off and then reboot to twrp. Should work ifbit doesn't while in twrp reboot back into recovery and then it should recognize it.

I've tried all different variations. Nothing works. It never reads it. It's no biggie. It was a little more than a dollar on Amazon so it's no loss. I just wanna get one to put the 128GB to use. I loaded it up with movies & such but haven't been able to use it.

Looks good but I don't have a 128GB card. I have a flash drive. Maybe that's the problem? The otg cable I have has the micro usb on one end for the phone & the female usb on the other end. Does the phone only support cards & adapters?
