usb sd otg adapter - Nexus 6 Accessories

Hey guys I just paid for the nexus 6 32gb and also a case. I am the kind of smartphone user that when I mod I want to have my zips/files on an external sd card. Since the nexus 6 doesnt have an external sd card slot. Any recommendations for a usb sd otg adapters?

I think any generic one will work. I was interested in them as well and I found this youtube video reviewing one:
http://youtu.be/dxezcJ4WTf0
I think as long as the phone supports USB OTG they'll all work fine.
You mentioned modding and I assume that means flashing in recovery? I'm not sure if recovery will be able to pick up the USB OTG Card reader though.

I have used twrp before on my m8 and I recall it had an option to use the otg. The twrp build for nexus doesnt have this?

Well I guess theres no reason to suspect it won't be available for the Nexus. Having said that, I've also only just ordered the N6 and its been a while since I've flashed anything.

Yeah I am coming from the turbo...

TWRP on Nexus 6 has USB OTG support. I backup and restore directly from it.

I like the Meevo sd drive. No cable required, plugs in directly to the usb port

I have the same one. Its solid and very reasonably priced.

I got a PNY 16 gig at Best Buy for $9 on clearance. Works great for backups with twrp.

I keep looking at this one.

I bought the Lexar M20 and would not recommend it as the connection to my N6 is very loose and I have to use a USB OTG cable with it.

I too have a generic and it works fine. Try this for twrp. Plug in the otg before u shut it off and then reboot to twrp. Should work ifbit doesn't while in twrp reboot back into recovery and then it should recognize it.

I've tried all different variations. Nothing works. It never reads it. It's no biggie. It was a little more than a dollar on Amazon so it's no loss. I just wanna get one to put the 128GB to use. I loaded it up with movies & such but haven't been able to use it.

Looks good but I don't have a 128GB card. I have a flash drive. Maybe that's the problem? The otg cable I have has the micro usb on one end for the phone & the female usb on the other end. Does the phone only support cards & adapters?

[Q] Usb host mode cable. What is it for?

I recently purchased the note from att and my wife bought me a few accessories from amazon. One of the accessories that came in the bundle was a usb host mode cable. I've googled for answers but couldn't find anything with details for what its for. Im not new to android and rooting, as Ive owned a few devices over the years and last one being the galaxy s2 on sprint. If anyone can explain to me whats the use for the host cable it would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.
BTW I love the galaxy note!!! I sold my iPhone 4S to get it and Im happy I made the switch!!
It's for use with USB drives and other USB devices that require USB host to use.

For what purposes?
You can plug in a thumb drive to the cable and it will mount on your phone. You can also use usb keyboards/mice if you are so inclined.
I carry a cable so if anyone wants to pass me a large file I just plug in my device.

You can use it for UOTG, USB on the GO. You can plug the micro usb to the phone and plug a USB flash drive. Go into a file explorer and look for a folder called usbStorage. You will be able to access the flash drive through that folder.
FYI, make sure that USB debugging is disabled other you will not see anything in the folder.
This is perfect for transferring files from USB or other media into the phone. I use it with my Canon S100 and transfer pics directly from the media card.

Host OTG Cable for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 P3100 , P3113 100% Tested

Good news for galaxy tab 2 users, both p3100 and p3113. I found an OTG cable which is working like charm and its very cheap too.
I bought this from ebay= http://www.ebay.com/itm/30070135874...NX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_875wt_1063
This includes

Normal Data Cable
Damn Cheap and fast shipping
My p3100 (Indian) is running on stock firmware, i only tried pen drive and its working awesome.
I dont know about custom rom , but i am sure custom rom will let me do more with my OTG Cable.
Update: Pen Drive Working on stock rooted rom too, Screenshot attached
You mean the same one that I mentioned on page 2 of this thread. Any reason we have 2-3 threads for OTG cables?
@imnuts
I am trying to keep a clean thread for OTG , that are 100% tested. For all Tab 2 Models.

The dock connector got stuck in my GalaxyTab 2, 7 with this cable you recommended. I pulled it out with some tweezers and superglued it back and now I works ok. It still feels pretty snug in there compared to the usb cable the Tab came with. I will be ordering a different one just to be on the safe side.

I get the "feeling sick" when people point out the rules over and over but learning to search is the key to finding any answer...I used to struggle to search but now find my answers easily most times.
Its really not that big of an issue in an accessory forum but in the dev forums seeing the same question 100's of times in a thread is torture when your reading through them...makes it time consuming for devs to respond to issues and generally makes you hate on people who do it everywhere else...

USB OTG Cables

I just ordered my USB OTG Cable today. For those that don't know what it means, it stands for USB On-The-Go. Basically, it allows you to read files from a portable flash drive straight from your phone. This will only work with a compatable kernel and since we have an ICS Source the developers said it was already enabled within the kernel.
This will be my first time to have ever used one and I was just wondering the pros and cons of having something like this.
I need some feed back~~
well from my POV these are my pros and cons...
PROS:
Extra space (whatever you can get that hooks up to usb, 2tb!!)
CONS:
Lugging around the extra crap
You have a good con list ziggy46..lol
I was concerned about that as well. But I have a 500gb portable external hard drive and it has tons of crap that I can probably watch or listen to on my phone. I can't shove everything on my 32gb sdcard. My 1T sits on my desk for my wife's photography thing she does.
My friend has an OTG cable and he uses his usb mouse to control his phone.
It's pretty cool but really gimmicky.
Hmmm...interesting. Thanks for the tip
if your otg cable works out good for you let us know. i might buy one and get a 2tb usb hdd.
btw, if things are fomatted in NTFS you might need to make a script for them to mount to the phone...
HTC doesn't support USB OTG in general. It will require a kernel hack. It didn't work in GB. I am not sure about ICS.
From what kozmick mentioned in his kernel thread it was enabled in the kernel. Im hoping it works if not then I hope it works on the N7 or my wife's SGS2.

Normally USB otg won't work on an HTC device. According to faux its something about the USB stack.
Ok. So I FINALLY got my USB-OTG Cable and even with the enabeled kernel it does not work. Kinda bummed but the part was cheap so its not a major loss. It works on ky wife's SGS2 and I read that it will work on the Idolian tablet I just ordered so I'm cool with that. I'll try and sell the other 3 that I won't need.

Just wondering, for the usb otg on the sgs2, did you need to connect the ext hd with power source? Or is the sgs2 able to power the ext hd?
It was able to power it just fine. I was just using a 2GB flash drive to test and you can see the led light come on. Not sure how well it could keep the charge up tho.

Yes, USB hosting is supposed to work on this device.
So, as I posted in a different thread, why not a case that plugs in the the usb and has either flash memory or an sd slot? The make those extra case batteries, why not an extra storage case?

Internal micro SD hardware hack?
I posted this question in another thread, but posting as reply here too. Since the J Butterfly has a micro SD slot, I'm guessing the DNA has the internal connections for a slot. Can anyone verify this? Might someone be able to develop a hardware hack to add in an internal micro SD card?

Someone posted pics of the DNA taken apart, and there is no spot for a SD Card.
---------- Post added at 01:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:46 AM ----------
On another note... anyone have the DNA unlocked/rooted and an OTG cable? If so, can you plug a USB Thumb Drive into the phone, boot to recovery and see if recovery recognizes the drive? I only ask as it could serve as a SD Card to flash ROMs/Zip Mods and store Nand backups if it does... and if it doesn't, we should ask the TWRP guys to see if it is possible.
Good news and bad news...
So on the plus side, I can confirm that USB hosting works!!! I made a horrible makeshift OTG cable and it works!!
Its really nice, I tried a 4 port hub with keyboard mouse and flash drive. I love it. Now all I gotta do is put linux on here
However, space is so limited on this thing, didn't think I was gonna regret not having an sd card slot!! Bummer...
But WorldOfJohnyboy gave me hope. His idea is great. Unfortunately I was disappointed when I found that neither CWM nor TWRP picked up the drive.
I was hopeful that it was gonna work since it works perfectly on android with out any thrid party apps, but I didn't even see flashing from the drive while booting recovery.
Oh well, hopefully its something that can be worked on.
I bought a cable for $2 on ebay, plugged it into the micro usb port on the phone, stuck a microsd card reader on the other end and I can read and write to my old SD card. No problems at all here.
If you had a ton of extra storage that you wanted to access, you could get one of those hard drives that creates its own wireless network. They have mini flash-drive sized ones, but they're pretty expensive and arguably unnecessary.
Havoc, I have a feeling the reason why the recoveries didn't recognize it is due to the programming end, I.e. its not setup for it. I'm sure someone could get them to work with it though, someone smarter than me haha.

Otg with my micro sd card

Would this work? otg cable connected to my nexus 9, at the other end of otg, a mico memory card reader that will host my 64gb class 10 msd card. Would this act like a pen drive? Actually Im not so sure. Nexus devices do not support OTG unless rooted. Either that or you need to download a specific file manager app that will be able to read your OTG device.

Don't know about the keyboard. I always use bluetooth to connect with my keyboard.
So wait, I'm also very curious about this. I have a 2 TB external HD that I would love to use with this device, were I to get it. USB OTG is something that could make or break my decision to get it.
So what are the odds that the Nexus 9 will be compatible with USB OTG? I'm very willing to root my device if that's what it takes.
Once using USB OTG, how will it work? Specifically for saving documents on my device. I'm probably going to use it for work stuff as well as for media, so I'll want to be able to plug in my HD, open a word doc or excel file in Kingsoft office or another similar program, edit it, and save it back onto the HD. I wouldn't want to have to use a file explorer to move docs back and forth every time.
Is this an option?
Sorry for all the questions, never used USB OTG before, but it's literally one of the biggest factors in whether or not to get this device.

which are hard drives
you will need an custom kernel with ntfs support
That being said
If it mounts you should not have any problems using it
watching movies writing to the hard drive etc...
just go where its mounted to and enjoy
You will need a file explorer
I recommend this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.fm.hd
How can I get NTFS support?
