How to get the maximum value of my RAM? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hi
When I go to Settings > Apps > Running Apps, I notice, every time, that my Xperia sola isn't showing the maximum value of my RAM (which is supposed to be nearly 500MB ). It shows almost 390MB ONLY. Then there's 110MB missing!! Where are these lost MBs?? And how can I release my device to reach all of my 500MB RAM??
Thanks.

Youre phone only has 500MB RAM you don't expect it to use some of it do you?
What exactly do you see used and free?

Missing RAM are for a part of the hardware

Hey, I see 291MB USED and 100MB FREE if I enter Settings > Apps > Running Apps. You can calculate easily 291+100=391. Then my device shows ONLY 391MB, not 500MB. I hope you now understand what I'm talking about.

Like @Info4Geek said, some memory used by the system, for XP it's almost 200MB.

And don't forget GPU also take ram as part of their VRAM.

256MB RAM? How can we be sure?

Hi guys,
I have a serious doubt that s740 has 256MB. I think that OS only thinks that way. These are the arguments for my doubt :
1. I have an application that shows message box with question before it closes. Usually when OS notices that system is low on memory it starts to close applications. Sometimes while this application is in background, message box pops up (not because I tried to close it, OS obviously thinks it is low on memory)
2. I have never seen significantly less than 100MB of free RAM in any applications that shows that information
3. I created an application that loads some text files into a memory. I started it when my device was close to a 100MB of free RAM. Very soon I got OutOfMemoryException although I had 100MB of RAM left!!
4. Once I bought 32GB SD card from eBay. After a test I figure it out that card was 4GB although it appeared to any PC it was 32GB. I saw on the some forums that I was not the only one with that problem. Many face the same when buying SD card from eBay and China. Point of this...it is possible to alter memory controller in order to trick the system.
If there is anyone who saw in any task manager or something less than 100MB of free RAM, please report it here. Also if you know some way we can be sure that there really is 256MB of RAM on our devices please let us know.
I got less than 100MB free RAM ...
Yep, me too

Actually you don't.
On your screendump you can see clearly "0.12G" (about 120 MB) free from a totall of 0.18G

Actually, I do.
.12G is used, 61mb free, which comes to a total of .18G
.-ombre-.
Not wanting to nitpick (as the issue mentioned at the start is the question if there's really the advertised 256 MB RAM, which actually appears to be 187 MB), but you're reading the Resco System Info incorrectly.
As you can see on your screendump, your 16 GB (14.83G) storage card is almost full (red bar, 97%) with only about "0.40G" available. This is shown on the right side, just like the ".12G" or about 120 MB.
Whoops, you're right. My bad. I'd suspect that the "missing" mbs are taken up by the os itself? either way, I have yet to run into an out of memory error on this device, and i have constantly up to 5 progs running in the background...

The way OS handles automatic closing of application is rather complicated and does not depend on free memory only.

Windows Mobile 6.1 is still based on Windows CE 5 core, which allows 32MB of memory per process (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_ce#Versions). Bear in mind that you are also using .NET, which in itself is a bit memory-hungry.
All-in-all I think that device has as much memory as advertised and see no reason why it shouldn't.
BTW my s740 has an 128MB of RAM ('not for sale' version)
CPU
CPU Frequency
RAM
Program memory: OS
Program memory
Memory in use
So maybe some of the Roses can be with 128MB only
...When I used my s710 (64MB of RAM) I had a free RAM value about 10MB. Now my s740 with 128MB of RAM but free RAM value still about 10MB. Very very strange

System Info on Atrix

Atrix is supposed to be 1 GB RAM
When i run Android System Info app, I see RAM Max : 818MB
Also When i Choose Settings > Applications > Running Services,
I see Used and Available Memory Indicated. Total do not count to 1GB and is always around 600 MB?
Also CPU information from Android System Info shows as ARMv7 (1GHZ)
Is there any other App that gives complete System information of Device Hardware?

This app is really useful, besides it is still not going to give answer to sakdroid's question. On my Atrix also it shows about 850MB memory in total. If I am not wrong, you can never see the actual RAM or Storage size, there is always buffer system will keep aside, which is never available for use. But as it says 850MB, that means it is 1GB.

[Q] question about available RAM

hello!why on the specifications of neo says that there is a 512MB ram and we have available only 335MB??that is very sad....the ram is barely enough for the applications i use and most of the times it reaches the limit....if there was 512MB it would be all fine..

I think that's with storage for system apps incuded. you need to root your phone to use the other part.
i have my phone rooted.....what do you mean?can i do something to have more ram?the internal storage of the device is 380MB....the RAM is 335MB....

i think you can do something with app2sd+, but i don't know how...
You can use built in app2sd. Settings-applications-manage apps-choose some app and "move to sd"
Or if you are rooted simply delete bloatware and etc

maybe you didn't understand my question....I don't have the problem with the internal memory(cause I can move apps to SD)but with RAM....the applications I run simultaneously reach the ram to the limit and the side effect when that happens is that the phone becomes laggy because of restarting some applications to release ram...

If you are already rooted i can suppose only that:
1. Lookup your ALL apps, clean cashe and dalvik
2. Remove bloatware system/app
3. Move most importants apps to system/app folder
4.After. clean rom install you had about 60mb space in system/app partitiond. after cleaning about 100 no needed bloatware app you had in system/app partitions more 150+mb free spce.
5. REBOOT is sometime useful.
6. Dont use task killers, cashe cleaner 3rd part apps.
7.No need complain about so small ram, rom,memory...you had alot memory, ram etc.....USE IT RIGHT WAY.
8. Have nice day!
Cheers!

RAM is 512MB but shared for GPU so just 335Mb available for users.
Similarly S galaxy, 512MB ram but just 330MB available for users.

sry for my eng
you can change, remove unnecessary app on your system. and at the data/app.... just organized it....

800 mb ram? i thought we had 1gb

noticed this awhile ago and wanted to see what you guys thought
on the task manager app, it says i have slightly more than 800 MB total
now i know the phone is supposed to have 1GB, but is 200 taken up by the system leaving 800 for the user? Not to mention that my phone usually has 200 - 300 free at any given time (bloat removed)

That's exactly what it means, the system takes up ~200mb leaving the rest for the user.
What app do you guys use to measure free memory?
My task manager always says like ~200... but when I go to the list of 'running apps' in the OS It says I have closer to 400-500mb free. (assuming cached applications aren't included in the later number.)
Yeah, you should have 325 - 425 mbs free most of the time. If I drop below 325 I tap on Fast Reboot and I'm back up to around 400mb.

where, in the manage applications one or the task manager in the start bar? i idle around like 130-140 in the task manager lol
System does hog like 200 MB of RAM. Generally have 300-400 MB of RAM if I have nothing running, otherwise 100-200 which is fine. If I notice any slowdown I just kill running apps w/ go launcher ex and all is well.

same here. I use system panel and my phone never shows more than 150mb of free ram unless I just did a kill all. Really need root to clean sense out a bit.

[Q] Quick question regarding memory.

Exactly how much is free to the user and apps from the 1GB of RAM?
if you use an app the analyzes, like "android assistant". In stock form it shows 680MB which, of course, a lot is used by system as well. With apps running I routinely have between 130-200mb free. I'm sure that will change dramatically for the better when I put a new ROM on here

I see. Would then using a 3rd party launcher increase that 130-200MB of free RAM?

It may be honestly it doesnt matter. As long as you have free ram it doesnt matter if its 10 or 100 MB.
