[Q] Cleaning the screen - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Hi what is the best way to clean the screen on my XZU? I currently use a microfibre cloth and wet it with water an wipe the screen but I still see smudges on it, it just doesn't seem to get as clean as I would like. I've thought about using a dab of liquid dishsoap just on the cloth and wetting it and cleaning with that but not sure if that would damage the screen or not. I've tried distilled water (read somewhere that it was the preferred method), it didn't seem to make a difference over normal tap water.
Also I find dust and gunk gets in along the edges of the outer layer/shell, how do I get in there to clean?
I don't have any protective layer on it right now (looking for a good tempered glass solution for the front and back).

regular window cleaner works fine for me..using it on the windows (of course ), on my laptop screen, my phones, the telivision
The dirt that fall down the sides is very anoying..I often try to pick it out with my nails carefully or try to brush it out with a paintbrush. The stuff that get stuck I just leave it there until it falls out on it own.

You can also use those tiny screen cleaning sprays that you can buy in most electronics shops for a couple of bucks. I think it's only some alcohol of some sort, but it cleans pretty well.

I use a "grundig" kit from electroshop, very cheap 4 Euro. Itr contains spray, micro fiber cloth and brush. This gives the best result on screens. I've read somewhere that you must clean with distilled water instead of tap. The minerals such as chalk doesn't dry nicely. You can scratch screen with paper or stiff cloth (when wiping dirt).
The spray contains 5%/15% amphoteric surfactants and 0.5% Sodium diacetate (I googled both components, don't have clue)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surfactant
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_diacetate
I don't know how it works, but device gets really really clean, and nice and shinny

Water damaged phone + phone with cracked screen = working phone?

So I just took apart a water damaged sf, and I could buy a cracked working unit for next to nothing. My question is theres seems to be a small amount of white "corrosion" on the digitizer. How would I go about "cleaning" the screen + digitizer up a little or would out be necessary to create a franken fascinate from these two phones, picture coming soon

I once dealt with an og droid that had water damage and the screen worked but the backlight did not so it was extremely hard to make anything out. You may have a similar issue.

I've cleaned water damaged laptops with similar corrosion.
use the highest concentration of isoporopyl alcohol you can find (if you can blow a drop dry in under 5 seconds that's good)
And some chamois tipped cleaners. Rub till.corrosion is gone. Don't be stingy with the alcohol. It dries so fast you want to use a lot.
50 50 chance it worked when cleaning laptops like this
Good luck
Everclear is available at most liquor stores for $12-$15 a bottle, and is 95% alcohol.
Also, in a pinch, it is "technically" safe to drink.
Materialized into existence through the act of observation.
heh, totally off topic, but...
Do not ever try to drink straight Everclear. Ethyl alcohol prefers to be in the 70-75% concentration range and will strip the water out of anything it touches in order to get to that.
Drinking a straight shot of 95% ethyl alcohol is a great way to end up with chemical burns in your mouth and esophagus.
But yes, it will do a fantastic job of cleaning electronic components.

Notice: doing this will void your warranty .
Materials :
Metal Polish Cream
Prograde xfine sand sponge
Twelve pack of Corona beer (optional)
1: Disassemble the phone this step is kind of simple follow this video
http://youtu.be/SpeT5Stmf2I
and be careful with the bottom plastic as its kind of weak .
2: Using sand paper xtrafine sand the whole frame , this step will take some time so be patient and keep sanding also remember to sand the red kick stand but be really careful because its really thin and bends easily .
3: When you finish sanding the frame and you're satisfied with the result you can start using the Metal Polish Cream apply to the frame and using a cloth to polish it the metal will become dark now turn the cloth around and keep polishing until its shining and stop releasing the dark residue .

despite the pictures were taken with an iCrap , but it looks better in hand .
*MIUI not included

Def looks sweet. I'm with the other guy though, idk if I have the nerve to take my phone completely apart! lol How smooth does the finish come out? Hard to tell from the pics because they are so close up.
I've actually been thinking about doing this. If you have it totally apart you can wet sand the frame with 1500/2000 grit sand paper to get it much smoother then use a dremel with the polishing wheel to get out the finer scratches out and make it look like chrome.
But you need to be careful because if you sand to much it would thin the metal and then see gaps in between pieces
I made that mistake with my nexus one and the back part of it was so thin that the plastic part did not attach back to it

Looks nice! FYI, to anyone looking to do this.... easy Off oven cleaner will straight eat the anodized red off the kickstand leaving you with bare metal and no sanding required... Simply polish after that.
As far as the teardown....
Pop the bottom off, remove the 4 screws with a T5 torx bit. Remove the 5 at the top. Then, push down on the back back the bottom speaker to push the screen out the front. Once the housing is free from the screen and its components, remove the kickstand by taking out 4 more screws. Its so simple.

Glass Replacement

Hello
Was wondering if anyone had replaced their glass before on their Note 2 and if they had any suggestions of the process. I have watched several videos regarding the procedure and feel fairly confident in performing the task but figured I would reach out and see if there were any other suggestions or things to keep in mind during the process.
Wife dropped hers in the driveway, 3 car wide, and I could hear the glass breaking all the away across it. Everything works good, just shattered the glass.

You have to get a heat pad to heat up the glue to be able to take the screen off then you have to get little plastic like guitar picks and go around the outer rim to take it out you should be able to figure it out from there

Keep in mind unless you do it absolutely perfectly you're going to break the digitizer or LCD and need a full replacement. Also keep in mind unless you have a 100% dust free environment and UV adhesive, you're not going to be completely happy with the results even if you're successful.
It can be done but you have to be oh SOOOOOOO careful and pretty much perfect. The digitizer and glass beneath are so very delicate.
I removed the glass from my broken screen/digitizer and trust me it would be hard to do this without breaking the screen/digitizer.
If I had to do it with a good screen I would use a very thin blade instead of a spudger. So instead of prying through the glue, I'd cut through so there is no pressure being placed on the screen/digitizer.
Also the glue has to be heat up pretty good and who knows what's too hot for the screen. Anyway it's worth a shot imo

This is true..
Also this is the adhesive you would need

That's for the outer edge, I'm talking about between the glass and the digitizer.
I believe that the glass, screen, and digitizer are all one piece. You have to replace it all at once.

That's obviously not true
It's clearly easier and maybe more practical to get it preassembled but not a must.
As far as the changing the glass as the OP is asking, it can be done. Doing it can save you ~$130
I had mine done by Samsung for 179. Looks brand new and it was faster than expected
Its not that hard. Use a one of the snapable razors so you can control depth. Buy glass off of amazon eparts as they have the adhesive on the glass. Heat it up over and over. Also do this in a room after having the shower on. Only takes like 15 min

Deckoz2302's suggestion to do the work in your bathroom, after running the shower, is a good one. The steam helps get rid of floating dust in the air.
Also, get a can of compressed air to shoot in the phone before you finally reassemble it just to be sure no stragglers got in there.
This is also helpful when applying screen protectors etc.
Please post your results when you're done!
Welp took out some courage drink last night and did it. Took me about two hours taking my time. Would have been better if it wasn't so shattered, but nevertheless it turned out great.

Search in the net I done as describe, not working
So I thought what about applying it under water or under shower !!! is it a good idea do it, do you think it will work??? I am afraid to try it because I think there will be rest water under screen protector.
Any advice! Please.

Not sure if serious..? If you try to apply it under water, you'll get water/moisture underneath the screen protector. You should probably go outside and try it if your house is that dusty
I done both my Z and Z Ultra under water works mint just make sure it fresh water I used a glass baking bowl. And covered over the handset by about 3 inch. Good thing with doing it under water is once u got it on you can adjust it. Also don't take off the second layer normally marked as 2 till after all the the handset is full dry mine took around 14hrs otherwise you will just pull the whole thing off.

I applied mine wet. (not under water) I have a Super Sheildz branded protector. Its stiff, and not sticky.
When I applied it the first time, my screen looked clean, but I could see small pieces of dust under it. I think this happens to everyone.
So i rinsed my screen under water, and did the same with the protector, and applied it again. Used a stiff card to push water and bubbles towards the edge. Now its almost perfect. I have one tiny piece near the edge, so I'm happy with that..
Any other moisture will eventually pass through the plastic protector. (depending on the thickness and brand of your protector this may take a day to a week)
Mine took 3 days and then was 100% clear
Hope that helps
Take a really hot shower and then after your done apply the screen protector. The moisture in the air wont let dust fly around. You could also take a screen protector/tape and lay it on the screen peel it off then put your good protector on to take out the dust.

Easy now.
I've only used one screen protector, like ever, and i didn't even know we could use water to make it "stick"
I always apply my (or others') screen protectors with some pieces of Magic Tape stuck ready for use on my desk.
Here are my steps:
1) clean the screen really well (having a waterproof device helps since you can really clean it in water)
2) put the screen protector on, focusing on putting it on the right way, start from the edges (bottom, top, right, left, whichever fits you) and get the sensors in the right holes
3) once fitted, peel off the top layer and push any bubble that may have sneaked under, all those which aren't evidently dust particles ones
4) IF you have dust particles bubbles, put a piece of magic tape on the nearest corner
5) pull up the corner and, with another piece of magic tape, go under the screen protector and peel the dust off of it.
6) keep at it until you have zero dust particles
Mind that the magic tape is the only one suited for this job, as it doesn't leave any glue on anything when peeled off.
P. S. If you have no idea of what is Magic Tape, here it is:

Using my Mix3 as a daily for the last 2 months without any case, ive gotten no scratches on the camera slider part. But did get some minor scratches and a very small chip on the screen (not noticeable)
I've also had it for 2 weeks honestly I think it's just part of the phone
God those scratches look bad. I've only had my phone a couple days, so I want to protect as much as possible, has anything been found yet to protect the front camera? And with the scratches, does it look like it's caused by some mechanical part inside, or could it be like a piece of sand getting trapped?
Mine got scratched too... I looked for a protector with no success...
Since I'm getting my mix 3 today, I wanted to ask if it's not possible to leave the original slide on it? Would not they be stable enough?
I bought a all aluminium with glass back case that's magnetic, well the front bezel scratched my slider front by the sensors. The case feels nice but kinda slippery so if you plan on getting this case file down the back of the front bezel on the top and file all the way across and it no longer with make contact. Cases are limited for this mix 3 and gearbest has the biggest selection. Nilliken anti explosion screen protector is pretty good and prob your best bet.
I have my mi mix 3 too since around 2 weeks with zero scratches. Maybe just be careful and don't use it in "dirty" areas. With a mechanism like a slider this can happen easily. I did not found any protection glass for the slider only so far.
