here is a site just put up by LG for their device loaner program. you basically sign up for it, say which phone you want and they send it to you. the catch is you only get to keep it for 30 days and you have to pay for the shipping to send it back. but it's a great way for some other dev's to jump into our side of the xda community. i wonder if dev's would be able to get an extension if they needed it past the 30 days.

They want apps created specifically for the G2, meaning you won't be finding them on the Play Store anytime soon with this offer so I'm guessing they want apps that take advantage of the hardware in the G2 by design - this isn't just a loaner phone to test any Android apps at all...
You will be required to pay $600 which will be returned when you return the device. I cant see many people doing this just to use the device for 30 days. I hope it increased development but I doubt it will.

I bought my note outright from best buy and noticed has doodles and pics of customers and employees.
I didn't know.i was paying fall price for what could possibly be a display model.
What should i do? Can I get a discount?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
Take it back and get a new one. They either sold you a floor model or one that has been opened by the guys in back. Of course once you're out the door they could say it was you that did all those things...are there any photos of people in the BB stock room or anything that are obvious? Or demand a discount since you got a used item. I would be furious if I paid full price for something that other people had been pawing at for who knows how long.
Also, after this is resolved, if you're still using the same device, hard-reset it and start fresh. Who knows what free apps and malware may be installed on it. Obviously don't do that first or you'll destroy the evidence that the phone was used.
I looked at the photo details and they're from February. I didn't buy the phone until march 10.
Only thing keeping me from taking it back is i dinto want to simply unlock it again.

I'm sure they'll exchange it for you, but if you don't want to unlock it, you could (depending on how much of a negotiator you are) go back and see if they'll knock a few bucks back to you... Clearly the phone was either a demo or used in some way, even if briefly. Keep the photos on there if you want to prove it was as you say.

I would complain HARD. Directly to the highest management you can find when you get there. That's absolutely outrageous.
Those looser employees should get fired, it is against policy to open a package and use it.
It's happened before.

So how would that stop someone from actually doing it? If the reason they claim said "lost" phone is due to them dropping and breaking it, they likely aren't gonna want to use the old one anyway. Sounds more like a way to avoid having to pay full retail price for a replacement rather than a way to have two working devices both for the same price.
Cept you could always get a replacement for what was claimed a lost phone, which then "turns up a few weeks later." only way to screw up is leaving on the lost phone while the replacement is on the way.

Or if I can should I try to put in a insurance claim and get a DNA that maybe hasn't had an ota update?

Good luck with insurance. Got 2 - new in box not referb - DNAs after much *****ing n threatening to bounce within my 2 weeks. And one from Amazon. No luck. The kernel source will be out eventually. Trust me this will be rooted n s-off. Its time at this point. Our devs rock. And lg wont quote me until i send it in...was wondering what others have done or recomendations.... I have an upgrade on my plan i can steal so i can also sell the phone ebay...but not suring how well that would go.....
What ya'll think?
Dunno, what version is it? Maybe you can make a dev very happy with it, if you give up on it.
Selling it for parts might only work later in its life cycle

If you got some spare time and nifty fingers you could wait for replacement screens to be sold. Or maybe use it as a htpc or something.
I have insurance with T-Mobile because I just joined them and their Jump program includes it but when I was with Sprint my ex broke her S3 and we had no insurance, I just called them up and asked for it on the phone and they added it and then I waited a few days and put in my claim and got a new phone after paying deductible. So give it a shot and call and ask to add insurance, maybe you'll get lucky.
List it on eBay you will be shocked as to what you will get for it.

Nah. Some guys girl broke hers like 2 days ago. Threads around here somewhere.
LG G2
Add the insurance if you don't have it. You have 30 days to do it and the phone hasn't even been out that long so you can definitely add it. Wait a couple days and make a claim. It'll cost you $199 on most carriers, maybe all of them, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a new one. And if you want to keep the old one for some reason or donate it to a dev somewhere as suggested earlier then report it as lost or stolen. You won't be able to use it on any carriers but for development or WiFi functions you could still use it up to you.

I know the g3 is coming out and everything else but man this is to quick isn't it? I just got this phone lol... Does anyone know if this is bad or not? I've never really paid attention but the only phone I know was EOL while had it was the Motorola photon and they stopped updating it soon after... I know damn well this phone can handle any android they throw at it so what is that about??

Don't worry about it. LG rarely updates a phone more than once or twice anyway. The devs at XDA will take care of us as long as they still use it. Like you said, it's got more than enough horsepower to last a while. Probably the only real killer will be when everyone goes to x64 operating systems.

This is indeed the phone to beat. Thank you very much for the information you have.
I read that a carrier in Canada has put an "end of life" on the g2, and they do list s4 as an alternative. It's also known that the g3 is in the works and will be out this summer. 4.4.2 may be the last official android version for the g2.
However! There is a huge development community behind the g2, so it's likely that versions will continue well into the future, the g3 ROM will likely be ported to the g2. When the g2 does stop receiving official updates, I would root and be happy with what the devs here can cook up

Why get rid of this phone? This phone is arguably a step above the Nexus line so far. We have plenty of AOSP options to choose from and now that we have official Kit Kat we will surely have plenty of new/more stable options.

All this means is that LG is going to stop producing the phone in favor of a newer model. Samsung makes their phones for years beyond their relevant lifespan and you can still find ancient Galaxy phones like the S2 on the shelves. The S3 is still the absolute go-to phone for any free contract, prepaid or non-contract deals. LG is a much smaller manufacturer and doesn't have the deals and agreements like Samsung does to pimp out their phones.
The Galaxy S4 is not going anywhere, it's going to stick around just as long as any of the Galaxy S flagships if not longer. The LG G2 will just be EoL as far as the carrier is concerned. So if you're a Bell customer, I'd recommend to get familiar with modifying your phone because Bell is likely not to push you any future updates.

Not sure what you mean by deals because the G2 was free much sooner than the S3. The OG and G2 both saw rapid price drops.

When I got my G2, the S3 was being peddled by every single carrier and given out like candy. You are/were able to pick up the S3 on almost any shelf as a prepaid device and if you signed into any deal that had free phones you got a S3. Samsung is still most likely making the S3, "emerging markets"(I assume) and every prepaid company basically relies on that phone. LG has none of those deals really and you'll never find a G2 in a plastic package hanging on a shelf at Walmart. Within 6 months, you'll most likely see the S4 in those packages.
This just says that LG is going to stop production of the G2 most likely because the G3 is coming out. LG doesn't have the market or ability to continue to sell their old flagship phone for years on end. They probably didn't have a huge profit margin on it since they can't sell and pump out millions upon millions of the phone. Thus since sales are tapering off and people are going for the new M8/S5 they're focusing on moving forward.
This could also just simply mean Bell is going to stop selling it since it's not selling well for them.

It's probably only LG's fault, not the carriers. If LG stopped making the G2 and started the G3 (due to limited manufacturing capacity), the carriers can't get any more stock so they list it as End Of Life. Meanwhile, the S4 is still being manufactured (even the S3 4G is still manufactured) so that's why they list it as alternative.

Can you buy a Nexus 4 today, and Google i think has 18 month update policy, so next version might be the last for Nexus 4 too. Fact is in today's tech world, you have a new flagship every 6 months, that does not necessarily mean you have to upgrade every 6 months.
Even if 4.5 is launched by end of this year, 95% of apps will still work on 4.4 and our phone is more then capable to handle them. So sit back and enjoy mate, until you wanna get suck in number wars and not care about the experience
I wouldn't let the EOL tag scare anybody away from this beast of a phone. Thanks to the awesome XDA forums, rooting, and a new battery; I made my old Droid Eris last for 2+ years and still going strong before getting a different phone. And the Droid Eris was EOL like 3 hours after I bought it haha
