Greetings XDA friends,
I had flashed a rom and currently Lost my IMEI number for my Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 and i have found a number of program to restore it.
However i am stuck at DM mode when most of the program says CARD NOT READ!
Hence my IMEI number now is 0049...
After 5 days of searching for solutions, i understand that i have to key in *#7284# and place USB as modem mode.
However my computer have a driver fail and the program that i am currently trying to use (Octoplus/Octopus/NV-items reader-writer) are unable to detect the phone.
Currently my phone now is on stock rom and rooted, but unable to continue further
Hence
I would like to ask some question.
1) How do you get into DM mode?
2) What is DM mode? ( Download mode? Diagnostic mode? or others?)
3) Do i need an UART Cable?
4) Does anyone have a Driver to share with me for the MODEM mode for USB?
Help i have been without a cell phone for 5 days!
This USB mode is it Qualcomm USB Modem?
Really you should just read General > Sticky roll-up thread > IMEI / EFS if you have an i9300

Odd, I didn't think i9300 had the qualcomm mode, because we haven't got anything qualcomm in this model.
Anyway, try the other thread first as all this may not even be required

Opps i think i got it wrong. qualcomm mode would mean 4G right?
Sorry i think i have misunderstood you.
what i meant is that when i use MODEM mode under USB as seen in the photo i added in here, my phone wont be able to install it's driver and detect in any COMPORT.
is this MODEM mode needed to get my IMEI back? I suppose yes if i am not wrong...
First question has to be exactly what model phone you have .

Why do you need a box to repair your i9100? What's wrong with it?
You can flash ROM's yourself using your USB cable via ODIN. If your phone is bricked, then you need to get a USB Jig to boot into Download mode and then flash a stock ROM.
If you're looking to unlock your phone, you can do it for free with Galaxy S2 SIM Unlock (Root needed).

I suggest you install a stock ROM once you have a working USB driver.
Follow the instructions in this post using the root kit to install the correct drivers;

+1 back to stock, will rule out a hardware fault. Which could have occurred coincidentally to your fiddling.
IMHO its best to read and understand before fiddling with stuff like odin, it's very easy to end up with a very expensive paperweight by guessing which boxes to tick.

Make sure you put your phone in download mode, and also Samsung USB Drivers installed on your PC. Try other USB cable if it did'nt work. Redownload the firmware, maybe it is a corrupted file
If you can boot into recovery then format data and cache, that might make the phone bootable again. If that doesn't help then boot into download mode as above and flash the correct stock rom via odin.
If it won't boot into download then you have a hard brick, service centre repair required.

Does anyone know how to run triangle away on SGS 3 without downloading additional data? The point is that I bricked my device, somehow lost IMEI and put phone into factory mode, wifi doesn't work, the same goes for mobile networking. I'd like to give it back to where I bought it from but in Odin mode you can see that the custom binary download is yes (10 counts). In other words I'd appreciate it if you told me what to do to return the device and get it fixed or replaced. Thank you.

Do not spam the forums, I have deleted your posts. Did it ever cross your mind that the best way to get an answer would be to create your own thread in the Q&A forum and give as much detail in there as you can? If it didn't cross your mind then I would suggest doing it.
hi guys,
i am having problems with my imei code.
it has disappeared and i cant get it back.
i an working with a samsung galaxy s3.
im from holland by the way for model info etc.
i was following this thread for information.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1946915
i was trying to set up the QPST link with my phone.
but first of all when i press *#7284* i dont get the qualcomm usb settings on the bottom.
i left the settings both on PDA.
so i downloaded a terminal emulator and installed it on my phone.
i entered this line.
su -c 'am start -n com.sec.android.app.phoneutil/com.sec.android.app.phoneutil.USBSettings'
then i finnaly get the required menu.
i select this option: 'RNDIS + DM + MODEM
and press ok.
meanwhile i installed the samsung usb drivers on my laptop.
i plugged in my phone when i was ready.
but in device manager it doesnt show up as serial com port.
it stays as an unknown usb device.
it tried several things.
installing software on desktop computer.
put it in modem or pda mode and the 2 combinations.
selecting the the two other modem options in the special menu.
but it wont show up as a serial port.
can you guys help me with this?
thankyou in advance!

Do you have a backed up EFS folder.

No then its a service repair
Hi, so I was trying to follow this guide (I know that it's for I9305, but the procedure should work for I9300), but when I connect my phone to my PC, I get the message "USB device not recognized".
The devices manager lists the phone as "Unknown Device", the device status is "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" and the hardware Id is "USB\CONFIG_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE".
I only have this problem when I put the phone in diagnostic mode ("RNDIS + DM + MODEM", "RMNET + DM + MODEM" or "DM + MODEM +ADB"). It works fine if I use the other modes.
I tried with various Samsung USB Driver versions (1.4.6, 1.5.09, 1.5.18 and 1.5.25) and roms (stock, omega and cyanogenmod, currently with stock 4.1.2), all with the same result. I'm using Windows 8 x64.
So, I wan't to use QPST but I can't, so any help would be greatly appreciated. If you need any more info just ask please.

Thanks so much, I didn't realize that my processor wasn't a Qualcomm.
Please, how did you solve this problem? I'm trying for hours and still is unknown device in diag mode! Help!
Unknown device (i9300 with 4.3 original rooted)
I'm in the same situation after I select: rmnet+dm+modem
Install and reinstall several version of usb driver, cable, port etc.. but when I select rmnet+dm+modem or option under my pc doesnt't install driver for it because it sees an unknown device
WHY?!?!?
Why are there no REAL helpful answers to these questions? Everyone is just saying "read this, or see that post..." but no real specific answers for fixes!!! I have been all over Google looking for a solution for this problem! I can get to the USBSettings menu on my 9300 by dialing *#0808#, but when I select RMNET+DM+MODEM, my computer no longer recognizes the device! Installing Samsung drivers did not help...my question is, does anyone know what drivers I need for Windows to recognize the phone?
Thanks!

thought id through my thoughts and troubles into the bag ...
ive got a troublesome phone, is a I9300 (so the international version) had the s5 sensation rom on it..
went odd, wouldnt run/install any apps etc (errors out with -54 i think it was) then week or so passed (as not got round to fixing it as it stillworked as a phone)
and after it went through a stage of switched it self off...
the batt went flat, and then hung on samsung logo...
after trying to sort it out, reflashing a backup, and then back to original ODIN files etc .. still hung, but would go to download and recovery with many compliants ..
after goose chasing them, got it down to just complaining about the /EFS
so after trying to fix this one, an nowt worked, i formatted /efs ... and yeah ! all boots !
so ive now got a "blank" efs, but a booting phone ! (but no network)
ok so in pretty much 100% of all tutorials in fixing a imei/efs problem it stems on putting phone into "diag or diagnostic" mode
which EFS Pro will do for you, or you can *#0808#
BUT i to get the "unkown" device too ..
and like the posters here all other options of modes work/install, but the programs for imei repair etc need diag mode
and from what ive read (the posts linked on the first couple posts here, and whats actually in those links)
suggest that either to "take it for repair" or talks about imei repair progs in diag mode with CDMA qualcomm devices, and CDMA devices are US devices
so i am lead to believe that as the I9300 being international version, doesnt actually have a "DIAG" mode, only CDMA US versions ? ! ? is THIS what your all hinting at but not saying ???
so thus no drivers work for it, and thus "unkown device"
and the only way is for a appropriate "box" that im thinking emulates, or works like diag mode !?
is there a way to force/flash diag mode for international s3's ?
am i even correct in these assumptions ??!!

thers NOTHING about qualcomm, and what it is and what isnt in phones in any of the quoted links
or anything related to CDMA
but am i presuming right what i said above, that the international version doesnt "have" a " diag" mode due to the type of processor used ?

I couldn't find any diag mode that worked. I had to send my phone to a repair shop that charged me around 20 USD.
Also, QPST (Qualcomm Product Support Tool) works only for phones with a Qualcomm processor.
not qualcomm
Im stuck at RMNET+DM+MODEM "Device not recognized", seems i need the driver for it. what can be done if the device is not a qualcomm CPU?

volkan.akbulut gave the solution. Follow these steps:
1. Turn off the phone
2. Enter Recovery Mode by holding Vol Up + Home + Power
Release the buttons when you see "Recovery booting" on the left-top corner.3. Use Vol Down button to select Enable cp logging and press Power
Now try to connect. Drivers will be installed.
