Hello,
I recently updated my phone's hangouts app to the 2.0 version. (Not through play store, through the reddit thread) And after doing so, I decided to uninstall the stock messaging app provided with the phone. And then I flashed CM 10.1 and did the same. My problem is, I can't send or recieve any MMS messages, and when I attempted to re-install the stock messaging app, it force closes. Is there any possible fix to this issue?
Thanks in advance,
Jake
This is what I use... I have never had working Mms on any CM build..

Great suggestion, my only problem is that I've tried that. When I was using the 8sms app every time I would "receive" an mms, my phone would display "No apn on this device"
Anything for that?
In 8sms settings under multi media mms scroll down to MMSC Settings/open and enter http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
In 8sms settings menu all the way down did u check Stand Alone Mode? After u froze/deleted system messaging?

I have done all that, I just replaced the Hangouts app with the custom version built for Verizon users. Thank you for all of your help though!

The current work around is annoying and nothing beats the stock message client, but for now you need to use a 3rd party one to get it to work.
1. Use a kernel that writes to /system (ask in the kernel thread if you're not sure)
2. Google search for your carriers APN settings and fill the details in: settings>mobile data>GMS/UMTS options>access point names with the APN details.
3. Download go sms pro and you will find an MMS option in red. At the bottom of the page, tick 'fill APN information manually' in the fields below you will need to duplicate the information from your android APN.
Pretty hectic just to get MMS right?
This works for GSM users in Australia and if it is worth it for you to try I hope it works for you too. Alternatively you could use Virtuous ROM which is based on a Butterfly firmware, which is in fact a GSM phone! MMS works fine on this ROM with stock apps.
Good luck friend
I downloaded Sliding Messaging Pro on my Verizon Note 2 (rooted, CarbonRom 1.6) and it is a great messaging app. My only issue so far is that I cannot get MMS to send. I have tried using both of the preset APN's for Verizon that are included in the app settings.
Anybody know how I can fix this?

This is a far fetch try, but I noticed this on the charge by accident. Make sure you have the stock messaging app. If not reload it. I deleted the stock messaging app and replaced with gosms on the charge, and the same thing happened. Also if you have the stock messing app, make sure to go into it and check for the auto retrieve (not sure if this will help or not, i've just always done it)
So I emailed the dev. He said to make sure wifi is off, otherwise MMS will not work, which should really be stated in the app or at least the app description on the Play Store somewhere.

Has anyone gotten this to work yet? I just downloaded it and tried both presets for Verizon that come with it and neither work. It doesn't look like it actually changes the settings either when I click a preset.
I am now running CM11 (Android 4.4 Kit Kat Edition) on my MAXX and so far only two issues:
If you loose service, it stays gone no matter how far u go, until you reboot
SMS will NOT send any saved pictures. MMS in general just does not work.
When I attempt to send multimedia, it either says that no "APN" is assigned to be me, or that the destination address is invalid.
I was having this issue too. Mainly because of this and gps killing my signal, I'm no longer on cm. Was nice how much faster phone was and better my battery life was.
If anyone knows how to fix mms on cm11 I'd appreciate it too!

Awesome! First of all, I installed on the stock rom I'm on, because the quick reply/read option was one of the biggest things I missed from cm.
Next, what release of cm are you on? Are you running into any issues with it? And would you recommend still using jbx?

I have been able to fix mms by opening the dialer and entering *#*#4343#*#* This didnt seem to be permanent fix but kept it working for quite sometime. Found this solution back when the same problem existed on a 4.2 AOKP rom and fortunately it worked again.

Link to my more detailed cyanogenmod forum post: forum [dot] cyanogenmod [dot] com [slash] topic/89488-disappearing-apnsbroken-mms/#entry450737
I was getting the "No APN specified on this device" message on a regular basis, but searching through forums is a great help!
8sms has fixed it for me (again!), but the problem was that one of the recent cm11 nightlies wiped the MMSC setting for 8sms - not sure how that happened, but here's the info from my post on CM's forums: (sorry, still can't post links ... I've cut all the links out of this post, but if you go to forum [dot] cyanogenmod [dot] com [slash] topic/89488-disappearing-apnsbroken-mms/#entry450737 you'll see the original, with all the links and appropriate settings)
Looks like they're working on it specifically:
Code:
vendor/cm: add more verizon apns
* Because we didn't already have enough did we?
* This fixes "No apn selected for device" when sending/receiving
MMS.
(see my cm forum post)
HOWEVER - Reviewing what I did before to fix MMS (see gldickens3's post, installing and configuring 8sms), I went to the 8sms app's settings and saw that the MMSC was now blank. I set that back to (see my cm forum post) and immediately after tapping "OK" I received 3 messages. I've since been able to send and haven't had the APN message pop up.
Here is a modified list of gldickens3's steps from the other thread (link above), slightly modified because it seems some things in 8sms have changed:
1. Install 8sms
2. Go to 8sms > Settings > MMS settings and set MMSC to: (see my cm forum post)
3. Disable stock SMS
4. Reboot
Note the changes - SMMS settings is now MMS settings and Stand Alone mode is no longer in the settings (at least on mine).
If you're in the same scenario as me, 8sms already installed and setup as default, simply doing step 2 might be all you need to do, as it fixed the issue for me.
Now, I don't know why the nightly update changed 8sms settings, but now I'll know exactly what to check if the next build does the same thing.
If you try this out and it works, please reply and confirm.

I also have had the same prob but on all kk roms
I've had a Droid DNA that I used on AT&T with no problem. I just used GoSMS Pro for my mms. Now, on my One Max, I can't send or receive mms with GoSMS or any other app. I looked through the threads on here and searched Google but I've had no luck finding a fix. Any help would be great. I love this phone and don't want to have to give it up.
Thanks
Carrier branded One Max? Im on ATT and have ni issues with anything.

Yup, it's a Verizon One Max. I have everything working but mms. Its stock running 4.4.2 not s-off or unlocked or rooted, just plain stock.
As far as I know if memory serves me correctly verizon blocks usage for mms for some reason, att did this also with 4.4.2

Try manually add the mms APN line inside gosms settings. When I was on Verizon I never used the stock messaging service.

Yup, tried adding MMS apn settings in gosms with no luck. I'm not sure why its giving me so much trouble. Thanks for the help though.
Google Messenger App will not send or receive MMS on Lollipop ZV8. It was working fine on ZV6. Every other texting app I tested works fine. All I could find online was deleting unused APNs, but there only appears to be one on this phone.
Has anyone managed to get it working?
Thanks in advance.
I had the same problem just re/uninstall it amd once uninstalled reboot the phone into recovery mode and wipe your cache partition(s). The reboot into your system anfd reinstall it.

Thanks for the input, but your process did not fix my issue.
I at least found some others online with other carriers that are having the same issue. I think we may have to wait for a messenger update.
Glad I wasn't the only one. I thought it was due to my Airave, then tested with the default messager app (G3) worked fine.
Seems to be an Auto-Select APN issue
This issue comes down to the APN and how the app automatically selects it. I found a bunch of threads where Nexus owners were having this same issue with their lollipop upgrade. The solution they used was deleting all unused APNs. I don't think our phone has this option.
I am currently using EvolveSMS since it has a Google Messenger Theme and you can manually select the APN.
Does anyone who is more familiar with setting APNs manually know a workaround for this?
Worked for me:
Stock LG (It is very ugly)
Textra
EvolveSMS (Go into MMS settings and select the Sprint APN manually)
Did not work:
Hangouts (Hit or miss)
Google Messenger
Google Hangouts has worked fine for me and yes, the stock messenger app is ugly.
Thats true, I can't wait until xposed becomes "official" and we can use xposed G3 again I will be themeing everything.

I think the problem is with the Google Messenger app itself.
But please post you APN settings here so I can have a look
Afaik, Sprint doesn't even set the APN via the OS, it's all in NV items. You mentioned you found evidence of people with other carriers facing this issue? Can you please link the thread? I'm also interested in what other carriers are having this problem.
So somehow I managed to get Google Messenger to send MMS messages.
I did a nandroid backup to include the modems.
Flashed ZV4/6 rpm tz partitions
Flashed Illusion ROM 6.5
Flashed nano gapps
I ran the Illusion ROM for the better part of a day and decided to go back to BarePop so I restored my backup and voila, it works. I'm not sure if it had something to do with flashing the zv4/6 rpm tz partitions or not, but it works. I originally flashed it to get GPS working on AOSP working which it did.
If you do think it is apn related follow this quick min guide by me:
Download shortcut master
Press the 3 dot menu button and click "search"
Then search for this "com.lge.SprintHiddenMenu.iot" it should be the first thing click on it
Then once in the app/menu click LTE settings>Apn settings
Then add new ones ect...
