Maybe S-OFF is possible after all - HTC Desire X

This UK website claims they can S-OFF the Desire X. I wonder how, maybe there is a way after all? I've emailed them asking how they do it and i'll post back if they reply.

How much use is s-off if we can't even get some more roms to fiddle with

has anybody do this method?
Are in S-off big new features or what can I make more with S-off?
FAExZ

First of all: Nobody has done it yet as much as I know. And: With S-Off you unlock nand partition, that means you are able to customize radio and hboot and can flash kernels and recoverys via recovery and don't need a PC for that. But for now it isn't possible for us without special hardware, in this case jtag...

Yes, there are 3 ways
1. Softwate/OTA update from HTC (Officially)
2. S-OFF your Desire X and use a modified P66IMG.zip to manually flash hboot update.
3. Use an RUU for Hboot update (if available)
Regards
Yasir
As far as i know option two (S-OFF) isn't possible for Desire X as of yet, and option three (a JB RUU) hasen't been released.
So we're just left with option one. Do i miss something?

You can only update hboot via OTA update, and for that, you need stock Rom, like it was before rooting, and stock recovery. Then you'll get the hboot update to 1.24 and then 1.25 hopefully.

s-off involves high risk of bricking the device thats why devs stay from it and its very hard to attain s-off as it requires lot of hardware knowledge.. leavin aside some fancy mods, we can still do alot of development without s-off
S-OFF
ohok didnt realise it was that hard to do also when a device is bricked due to this does that mean using a JTAG recovery thing, (I saw one of the guys in the elegancia rom post meantion this) would not recover a bricked phone ?

I recently tried an experiment. My bro Huawei phone got ota but as he had modified system apps, the ota failed. His ota also had firmware and hboot update (89mb)
I opened the ota zip, in updater script removed all assert checks, and then flashed ota, and it completed, even his firmware and hboot got updated. Have we ever tried fooling HTC stock recovery ?

I don't use my desire x and don't really care about it. Should I test revone s-off? Only if you guys really really need s-off. Dont just say you want it because some say so. I'm still risking a phone here.

frankly, that takes 5 seconds on fastboot. Only gripe is that u have to use a PC, but still we dont have that many kernels or Roms to flash in order to make s-off much useful
On my old bravo, it made more sense, because they could remap all the partition sizes and hence decrease size of cache and system partition and added that to data partition.
But still, maybe someone will benefit from it

Yeah! There aren't much kernels or roms to flash & roms can be flashed through recovery!
But the major feature is that we can get our bootloaders locked instead of relocked & have the warranty back.
On the One S subforum they say it doesn't work unless you unlock the bootloader and root.

Consider my post cause it could help us to reach S-OFF.
Does Firewater S-OFF method help us?
I think yes cause it talks about "qualcomm-based" devices. Anyone tried it? I will try in a few hours!
Tell me or consider this post.
Great find.
Unfortunately closed-source but supposedly works on all Qualcomm-based HTC devices. In theory it should work on our device. Please let us know if you achieve S-OFF without the boot vibrations that happens with Rumrunner S-OFF: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2630531

Like you can split an hdd in partitions and set them a size, name etc. also android has its partitions to work on: one for bootloader, one for kernel, one for system, etc.
Changing the size it means you can set to which partition you want custom size, for ex. you can change /system partition size to 1mb and you will not be never able to boot a rom, for example..

It has to be done outside the phone on a PC. You have to extract the hboot, modify the image, and flash it back to the phone. Back at my old phone, the HTC Aria, we got someone in our forums who wrote a tool for that. But I doubt that it'll be much use for us. For the HTC Aria, it was important to get CM greater or equal 9 running because system partition was too small.
